ANEMONE. Daniel Day-Lewis’ return to the screen along with his son Ronan as Director in this intensely beautiful and brooding two-hour tale of brotherhood, despair, mystery and devotion. The sinister flatted score is mentioned in almost every review. With Sean Bean (Boromir). Usually I consider ‘interesting’ to be a film critic’s weasel-word, but in this case, it works.
BLUE MOON: From our friend at the Seattle Times, Moira MacDonald: Linklater really nails the atmosphere here; watching Blue Moon feels like sitting with smart people in a retro bar, covered in a gentle blanket of cocktail piano. And Hawke, often surrounded by wafting symphonies of cigar smoke, gives a beautifully shaded performance, of equal parts bravado and vulnerability. 1:40, Rated R.
HALLOWEEN DOUBLE-DIP: Sponsored by BAINBRIDGE PREPARES, our annual Halloween tribute to local filmmakers gets the 2025 moniker: DON’T BE SCARED…BE PREPARED! Dan Myrick and the altogether appropriate BLAIR WITCH PROJECT opens to be followed by the magical, whimsical and often chilling, BEETLEJUICE. A pair of Halloween faves at one throwback price for both. $7. Distinguished representatives for each film will be on hand to intro. Seriously, seven skins. Scary.
6 GUN REBELS & WHYSKEY CREEK. Recorded music played back on LP (Long Playing for you youngsters) sounds better than a CD. The same way that live music feels better. My record collection in the 70’s had plenty of BAD COMPANY & LYNRD SKYNYRD. This ass-kickin’pair of Kitsap Bands team up on Saturday, Nov 1, to pay tribute to the good old days of Rock N Roll. Two bands, one show, no cover, no kidding.
