Comedy is back on the Dec 5th with Gabriel Rutledge, Mike Coletta and hosted by Monica Nevi. 9pm start. On Dec 12, a Rock n Roll Holiday gala featuring DANNY AND THE FIGGATONES with HONEY MOON as opening act. All your holiday faves with a delicate turn of amps to ten point five. Samples, how’s this? And coming in January (The REAL) LADY A, as part two of our ode to the music of New Orleans on Jan 10. Much more on that event heading your way soon. Like next week.

I was honored to amplify our Mission Statement five times in the last week. 5! That means that on those special occasions I was introducing a film, artists, filmmakers, or other talented and successful leaders of our community who had produced something of value so important or entertaining that we were obliged to host their work. UNDER THE OPEN SKY, HOPE IS A SONG, COPA ‘’71, YARDSALE and MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON all had their day in the sun (night on the screen) with us to share their respective artistic efforts. I applaud the results and respect the passion and dedication put forth to present them. Congratulations to all from the stage and sincere appreciation for all who filled the seats. It is truly why we are here.

THE COMMENTARY.

BUGONIA. Jesse Plemons is the Philip Seymor Hoffman of this generation. And while Emma Stone may be its Julia Roberts, the two are nothing less than dazzling plutonium moon-beams in this Ari Aster produced,  Yargos Lanthamos helmed gift to humanity. A word of caution, however, if you are not familiar with or not accustomed to YL’s patented brand of dark-as-coal humor, you might want to get some advice from Dr. Google first. Because he might be the Stanley Kubrick, John Carpenter, Ang Lee, David Lynch of the genera’s Directors Guild.

MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON. The oft quoted line from Jerry Garcia about Deadheads, “Our fans are like black licorice. Not everyone likes black licorice, but those that do REALLY like black licorice.” Nice, clean and with a certain pizzaz. Stunning videography of outdoor recreational sports filmed at night with advanced technologies, behind the scenes with the cast and crew and soundtrack by Jerry and the Boys themselves. If you like black licorice, this one is for you. Islander Ali Meiners will be on-hand Monday night to host a Q&A.

PORCELAIN WAR. Sure doesn’t seem like it has been almost four years since the screening our first UKRAINE BENEFIT back on March 19, 2022, but that is the time frame of Russia’s inhumane assault on Ukraine. We supported the defense then and we will do so again.

RENTAL FAMILY. NOTE THU SNEAK! Having won Best Actor for his last outing in THE WHALE, Seattleite Brendan Fraser returns in this heart-warming, dramedy about an American in Japan looking for meaningful work as a character actor for a talent agency who books him to a family seeking answers to complex social circumstances, like parenting, bonding, trust, meaning and, ultimately love. Could be a sleeper for some awards hardware.

All for today folks, thanks again for your support, it was a great weekend at the HLT, well attended super programming in a vibrant community.

Ciao a presto.
