IS THIS THING ON? For our marquee I have no punctuation marks, let alone an interrogative point, but you are savvy enough the get the gist. BRADLEY COOPER is a Hollywood anomaly; passionate, tireless, a talented jack-of-all-trades. He wants to make adult movies that concern the things people care about, subjects that draw grown-up audiences to movie theaters, e.g. people like you and places like us. WILL ARNETT is fabulous in the lead role, sad, confused, a little angry, seeking solutions and eventual salvation with sincerity and his vision of responsibility thru a courageous refusal to compromise. Comedy as therapy?  Ask Sebastian Scales how that works. I appreciate the approach BC takes in the pursuit of his craft. And love the contrast in character arcs watching this after MARTY SUPREME. Blessed are the laughmakers.

HAMNET. Opens Friday, J16. I trust you have heard, read, listened to enough hype about this one to effectively alleviate me of additional exposition, suffice it to say that should the trailer be accurate, and I think it is, we will be in for a roller-coaster ride of Shakespearian level emotional drama.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL. HANNA ABRAMS and her High School scholar pals, lobbied for, and received, a grant to create an informative cultural event in honor of HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY, Jan 27. That it falls within proximity of MLK day, Jan 19, is an added bonus for those who celebrate people and events that have shaped our history. The Oscar-winning film will screen at 4pm and is free to those who celebrate. THIS BEAUTIFUL THING, later that same day, tells the story of a group of Chicago-area gang members who find true-calling in rowing. A timely and compelling look at what teamwork, effort and leadership can achieve when firing on all cylinders towards a common objective. Sponsored by BAINBRIDGE ISLAND ROWING. Tickets go on sale to the general public next week.

BIKES vs CARS, sponsored by SQUEAKY WHEELS is another award-winning doc produced in Sweden that takes a look at the problems we, the global we, face in a peaceful coexistence of leg and motorized locomotion. Of course it’s not a fair fight when they have the Big Oil Lobby on one side and me and you representing the good guys. Tuesday, Jan 27 at 6:45. Entry is via donation and here is the link. Should you lack a dollar to get in, do not fret, I will cover you.

TRUE LOVES will be back on Sat Feb 21. Tickets are on-sale now. Do not delay, I cannot add another show as these guys are booked. TL frontman JIMMY JAMES and I did a videocast last week that I should have ready to drop in the next few days.

PSA. Tipping is the Sport of Kings and we use every penny from our pair of Good Karma jars to keep the Good Ship HLT afloat. Bumpers are LOOKS LIKE RAIN, from BOBBY WEIR’S first solo album released in 1970, with Jerry on steel pedal. RIP, my brother.

See ya soon.
