HLT#163 - TALKING OSCARS with ANDREW TAYLOR

My guest today is no stranger to this show. Writer, Director, Cinematographer Andrew Taylor and I have had this discussion every year since 2023, talking about the films that have been nominated for an Academy Award, and in this particular framework, Best Picture. So you can follow along, here are the ten deemed to hold enough quality to be considered as BEST of 2026. In alphabetical order they are:
BUGONIA
F1
FRANKENSTEIN
HAMNET
MARTY SUPREME
ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER
SENTIMENTAL VALUE
SINNERS
THE SECRET AGENT
TRAIN DREAMS
We both agreed that every film on this list has, at one point or another, what it takes to be in this conversation, yet we also feel that the perfect film is, perhaps, not the best film as voted upon by the Academy and its 10,000 members. Fitting examples being the wonderful films like BUGONIA and SENTIMENTAL VALUE, as well as how they relate to the colossal scale of ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER and THE SECRET AGENT. They call it Scope for a reason.
Andrew’s most recent project, FINDING CHAZ, along with local Filmmaker ANISA ASHABI, is getting recognition in Hollywood as a result of the pilot she wrote and he directed (and we debuted). We are honored to be a part of the local filmmaking community.
Should you have a strong opinion on any of the above, and we know you do, please feel free to drop a comment via the FB link at the bottom of the text and join the conversation. You can also e me at Kevin@Farawayentertainment.com or leave a VM at 206.451.4336.
Thanks as always to Andrew, and hope to see you all at the HLT for the re-screening of our pick for Best Picture, ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER. Starts Friday.
Ciao,
Kevin
