COMMENTARY.

Last chance this afternoon to see STEVE STOLEE’S epic take on the Rotary Auction, ANOTHER MAN’S TREASURE. It is truly more fun than a barrel of partying primates. 

TRAINSPOTTING. Looking forward to watching tomorrow on Senior Tuesday along with all my over sixty pals, those who watched this Danny Boyle gut-buster on its initial release some thirty years ago. Reason being, that I still have no idea what half the dialogue is about (although I can guess) because we screen every Tuesday with open captions and I can read what the ear/brain combo cannot decipher. Problem solved.

PETER ASHER: EVERYWHERE MAN. A comfortable and pleasant romp thru my favorite decade of Rock n Roll; 1965 -1975. Peter, being 1/2 of Peter & Gordon, who had a couple of monster hits, partly due to their talent and party because Paul McCartney was writing their sonnets because he was dating PA’s sister Jane. The plot quickly thickens as a who’s who of rock pioneers and musical invaders from England instantly terrify the parents of every teenager in America, all produced by Mr. Asher, aka Austin Powers. All diabolical fun in 3/4 time.

THE INVITE. Two couples share a home-cooked soufflé and learn more about each other than how to shake & bake. Seth Rogen, Penelope Cruz, Edward Norton and actor/director Olivia Wilde deliciously star from soup to nuts in this 95% at RT therapeutic gourmet laugh-fest (with social commentary for desert).

SWEET HOME ALABAMA. Kerry Roe has stepped up to sponsor a series of films designed around revisiting Rom-Coms, with the REECE WITHERSPOON classic as the lead. Festivities start across the street at Marketplace and finish here with a 7pm start time. Tickets here.

THE ODYSSEY. Christopher Nolan assembles an all-star cast (to great debate) in the 7,000th remake of the Homer Greek Tragedy. I will fess up and say that while I am a huge Nolan fan, I am genuinely nonplussed by this choice of subject matter. I would rather see Memento II. Your actual opinion may certainly vary, that being, of course, a good thing, this being a text book ‘prove me wrong’ film. And I hope I am. 

Our 90th Anniversary Celebration is on the 25th and 26th. Ballots are everywhere, all you do is vote for your favorite three Best Picture Award Winners spanning the 90 years from 1936 - the present, and the one’s getting the most love, see the big screen, FREE. That’s right, PICK THREE AND WATCH FOR FREE. I will announce the winners on the July 20 podcast so you can make your plans.

STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER. Hats off to everyone who celebrated what remains of our Democracy over the weekend. Despite our challenges with ice, popcorn and projection equipment, we made it through, none the worse for wear.
