Did Eisenhower actually prevent World War III?

At several moments during the Cold War, nuclear conflict was a very real possibility — and more than once, the decision rested on one man.
But those decisions didn’t happen in isolation.

They were shaped by a lifetime of quiet discipline, hard lessons, and a leadership style forged long before the Cold War ever began.

This is the real story of Dwight D. Eisenhower — the unlikely General who joined the army for a free education- in which his performance was lacklustre; got his first big break because of football; but through a succession of mentors coupled with with hard work and attention to detail became an indispensable staff officer, and eventually the perfect choice for a coalition leader. A leader who used prudence more than heroics, and more than once stared down both generals and politicians till he got his way. As a politician, his reputation for integrity and his ability to both work with his opponents and stare them down when he had to, eventually showed why his greatest victories were often the wars he refused to fight.
