Have you ever wondered why the Bible describes worship in so many different ways?

In Part 2 of  7 Hebrew Words for Praise, Ethan Bricker continues exploring the rich vocabulary of biblical worship and teaches that praise is far more than singing songs—it is a lifestyle expressed through our voices, our bodies, our gratitude, our humility, and our wholehearted devotion to God.

In this message, we unpack the final Hebrew words for praise found throughout the Old Testament:

• Hallal (הָלַל) – exuberant celebration, boasting in God, shining, and joyful praise with abandon.

• Yadah (יָדָה) – lifting hands in surrender, thanksgiving, confession, and reverence before God.

• Todah (תּוֹדָה) – giving thanks before the breakthrough comes; worship rooted in faith rather than feelings.

• Shabach (שָׁבַח) – shouting triumphantly in confidence because of who God is and what He has done.

• Barakh (בָּרַךְ) – kneeling in humility, blessing the Lord, and recognizing His greatness above our own.

• Zamar (זָמַר) – praising God through music, singing, instruments, and joyful celebration.

• Tehillah (תְּהִלָּה) – a spontaneous song of praise that declares the goodness and mighty acts of God.

Along the way, I share the story of the first time I personally encountered the presence of God in a Wesleyan youth group and how a simple act of lifting my hands transformed worship from something I merely understood into something I genuinely experienced. God's presence had always been near, but surrendering my heart, mind, soul, and strength helped align my attention with the One I had chosen to seek.

We also explore how the Psalms shaped Israel's understanding of worship, why biblical praise often involves our whole bodies—not just our voices—and why worship is ultimately about desire over duty. True worship isn't empty emotionalism or religious performance; it is practiced obedience that grows from a heart captivated by God.

Whether you're curious about raising your hands in church, kneeling in prayer, shouting with joy, dancing in worship, or simply wanting to understand the biblical foundations of praise, this teaching will help you see worship through the lens of Scripture.
