[0:23] Hello, everyone. I'm Jonathan. I'm Crystal. And this is Haunt Weekly, a weekly podcast for the haunted attraction and entertainment community. Whether you're an actor, owner, or just plain aficionado, we aim to be a podcast for you.
[0:35] And we return to you this week with episode 452, which I've checked the math, is divisible by four. That means it's time to do the news. And before anyone's in under the wire, yes, we will be talking about that story. But we have a, Well, actually, we're starting with that and ending on all the other stuff so we don't have to remember it by the end of the episode. Well, yeah, but we have to do all the stuff before this. Oh, yeah. So, you know, we've got to laugh. It's a sandwich. It's a shit sandwich. Shit's in the middle, boys.
[1:09] We're going to be taking a big, nasty, stinky bite. On that note, though, please do check out all the places we exist. We're at HauntWeekly.com. We're HauntWeekly on X, formerly Twitter. HauntWeekly on Facebook. Facebook, youtube.com slash hauntweekly, plus wherever you get your podcasts from. Definitely pay special attention to our Facebook page. That's where we post the question of the week and a bunch of other stuff, too. If we do live shows and things like that, we'll be posting them there. Once again, it's facebook.com slash hauntweekly. All right. Well, we don't have any housekeeping this week. Work we did for the haunt. We didn't do any because there was family stuff going on. And I guess that's the housekeeping note. I'm sorry we're late. There was family stuff. We won't go into details. No one needs to be involved with it. Trust me. You don't want to know the details.
[2:03] I swear, though, there's going to be a time in your life you're going to write a book. And it will be a bestseller. Everyone will slot it in fiction, even though it will be very much nonfiction. So anyways, it'll be an interesting time when that day comes, but not now. Now, that said, we were kind of hit with a double whammy, because last night we got hit with a different surprise, that our girlfriend Ellie's Facebook account got randomly suspended. Yeah. And this is not typically, and I feel kind of on top of this, we've already posted about it publicly, but this is wild. She got suspended for alleged fraud or some deceptive behavior, which is crazy because anyone who knows the first thing about Ellie on Facebook knows that she gets all the scammers. She is like the fucking bat signal for scammers to come out. And they come out everywhere, Facebook Messenger. She has to use WhatsApp for communicating with some of her coworkers or there. And it's crazy.
[3:07] That hasn't impacted us directly, but we've had to take over duties and things and sort of try to shuffle around how we're getting shit done for the yarn store and other things while this is being sorted. Yeah. So it's a big fucking mess right now. Sorry we're late, but between those two things, yeah, we're going to be a day late. And honestly, those things have to come first. But all in all, yeah, we're coming out of it ahead. head and you know hopefully the the bullshit train will end after we finish our main story today but on that note every week we do ask a question a week and last week we asked a simple question what is the best example of a tv series that uses haunt tactics basically what should haunters watch in order to learn something from it and go ahead several people commented face off in competition shows i'm going to pull daniel barnett's comment that i agree with a lot of people that have said that uh also cosplay melee hot set heroes of cosplay and whose line is it anyway for building i'd say junkyard scrap heap challenge and spooky show or spook show 17. I i really like the idea of watching whose line is it anyway yeah and i didn't realize he said that too because i've got that lower down also sorry sorry about that yeah we're going to double up on that we'll come back to it then uh ryan haynes said anything with acting that inspires you that's a good point Yeah, if you see a character that is striking look at what they do sort of break down their mannerisms.
[4:35] Understand the cadence of their speech How do they move you know the things that you as the actor can easily control look at how those things are done good point Mm-hmm. All right Nick Beiser said whose line is it anyway now we'll come back to it now And yeah, that is such a great idea because here's the thing um when you watch it do keep in mind that each half hour episode involves like two hours of them working yeah like do remember that um it is improv but remember that you're only seeing like at the most maybe 25 percent of what they actually put out there so no one hit bats a thousand even these amazing professionals who have literally been doing it their entire life professional lives at this point, so bear that in mind. But also.
[5:27] Yeah, just look for how they play off each other, look for how they come up with things, and always watch the hoedown to notice Ryan standing at the end figuring his shit out before it's time to sing. He's always fourth, and it's for a damn good fucking reason. I love watching the wheels on his head turn while everyone else is singing. And he's like deep in thought. It's great. Yeah. It also would be good for some warm-up games. You know, get ideas for that. Yeah. I recommend props. Mm-hmm. Props is always just one. You've got to, look, you've got to bucket a weird shit somewhere. Mm-hmm. Have everyone do props with it. It's easy. Yeah, I think that the guest coming to dinner would also be a good one. Yeah, where I have to guess what the quirk is. Yeah. But after everyone's had a moment to do their bit. Yeah.
[6:16] Yeah. I think that's a good idea, too. There's a lot of good games there, basically. So, yeah, study it. I think that's great. uh shalisa mule burger said any of the maker competition shows helps on or think outside the box or skip the tv and go straight to alan hobbs youtube channel fair point i guess we could have asked for youtube channel recommendations perhaps we should have yeah well another time we're just we're old we are old but honestly we're living in like the golden age of streaming oh i know yeah we are and there's a lot of and and it's not just current stuff you can go back and look Look at old stuff. I love, like, Whose Line to Disney? We're just talking about that. You can go back and watch every single episode of that. Yeah. Have fun. Knock yourself out. Find the one in Richard Simmons. Yeah. I'll recommend that one. And finally, Roberta McClellan said, Are you being served? Hear me out. It's all about timing and reading your audience. Okay. So when I saw this comment, I just squealed a little bit inside, you know? Yeah. Because I grew up watching this era of PBS on the weekend.
[7:23] At home. I would say you could expand this to British comedy more broadly because it's a very British style of comedy. Red Dwarf does the same thing very well. And you introduced me to it in the worst way possible. Sorry. Yeah, I've got a show. It's about a cat and a hologram and a guy that fly around in a space junk ship. Yeah, great pitch, Crystal. Great, great, great pitch. I've gotten better. Great pitch. bitch. For my next trick, I'll try to sell LASIK to someone.
[7:59] But no, seriously, LASIK is great. You should get it if you are a candidate for it. And don't listen to me. I will tell you the truth. Which is what to be prepared for, honestly, but it can be a little frightening. But anyways, I also think Keeping Up Appearances was the other one that I think. And also, even though it's a little bit complicated these days, Mrs. Brown Boys also uses a lot of the same timing, even though now a lot of that humor falls pretty. Yeah, it does. It didn't age well. No. We'll say. So, yeah, but British comedy in general, I think, is really, really good for timing because it is very much about the actors and the characters rather than focusing on more slapstick stuff typically. Yeah, well, and I would say, you know, if you're, go to, go and see what comedy is like in a different country. Oh, yeah, absolutely. See shows from other countries because that also helps you expand. And we've been doing a little bit of this ourselves with Taskmaster. We've been watching Taskmaster. One of the great things about Taskmaster is you can also get the New Zealand, the Australian one, and the one season of the American one they did. Right.
[9:12] It's very interesting to see how similar it is, but also how different it is. Yeah. Like, you can tell British comedy is way meaner. Yes. Greg Davies is fucking vicious compared to the other Taskmasters. Yeah. And I think that the other Taskmasters have gotten notes that they need to be meaner to their assistants. And I still think they're not... They aren't competing. They're not playing the same sport. No, Greg Davies is all but actually taking a shit on Little Alex Horn.
[9:44] Well, yes, because he's called Little Alex Horn. And he's six feet tall. He's as tall as I am, literally. He's just short compared to Greg Davies, who's like 10 foot 9 or something. I don't know what his actual height is, but he's insanely tall. No. And insanely large.
[9:59] All right. But anyways, this week's question of the week, now that we've talked about shitting on Little Alex Horn, this is the perfect time. This week's question week is what is your favorite fandom and we'll go and answer for i'll answer for me i think it's pretty obvious looking around the room it's a repo the genetic opera is my thing right now and it's it's um compounded by the fact that i am sitting underneath two screen use posters from the film and recently acquired a blind bundle of screen of stuff that was used in the film, which includes a call sheet, a shooting script, and storyboards for the film. Yeah. And we are trying to figure out the best way to display and share those. It's going to be a difficult challenge. But also, we got a screen used magazine cover. Yeah. Yeah, that's pretty cool. That's really cool. That's a good piece. It's a large piece, too. And the text on it, because the front is the front cover, which is what mainly you see, but the back had some text on it that was never meant to be right on camera and it fucking shows when you read it up close but but the point being um so yeah that's definitely my favorite fandom yeah which is surprising because you you're also huge into mst3k yeah and that's my other i say that's the closest thing after the tie yeah yeah that would be um.
[11:29] And I know I came up with the question on the fly, and I've had minutes to think about it. Yeah, it was your question. I don't know. I know. What the fuck's your problem, man? But...
[11:42] I don't know i don't have a real fandom like i am a fan of a lot of little things a lot of things but i'm i don't like collect for it yeah i really don't fancy myself a collector, which is weird that i've got this much repo stuff but it was just opportunities came up to grab it and i took it yeah well and the thing is is like the thing that i sought out the most was american mcgee's alice yeah because i have a lot of the figures that came out when the game was out and And I have a large poster of it. So I guess as far as memorabilia, that's probably what I have the most of. That's actually probably true. You do have a lot from that. Yeah. And once again, that was, but see, that's just it. I don't call myself a collector because collectors usually are trying to amass the largest or the biggest or somehow completest collection. And I don't feel that way. It was just I saw deals for something that I knew I would enjoy and I purchased it. And that was really it. like i don't care with repo if anything else ever comes out and i have a lot of mst3k memorabilia too but none of it's original from the show i have recreated prop of the movie sign light.
[12:53] Um you have a whole shelf i have a whole shelf of little odds and ends i also have signatures from uh the mads uh tv's frank and clayton and dr forrester so yeah i've got stuff but it's like Like, I don't fancy myself a collector of any of it. Because I don't go to shows like, ooh, what have they got, MST3K or Reaperly? The answer is fucking nothing, by the way. Maybe that's part of my problem. You know, they don't actually have the stuff in a lot of these shows. But anyways, what is your favorite fandom? Let us know. HauntandWeekly.com, HauntandWeekly on Twitter, HauntandWeekly on Facebook, and YouTube.com slash HauntandWeekly. All right. It is also an even episode. So that means we get to do conference reminders. So, Crystal, why don't you kick us off? Right. November 22nd. It is Christmas.
[13:43] Oh, sorry. August 17th. I went to the ones that weren't highlighted. Yeah, you went to the ones that are coming up up, not the ones that are coming up. August 17th, Haunt Mare Expo. It's in Fresno, California at the Fresno Fairgrounds featuring five indoor haunted houses, three escape rooms and a rage room, various special guests and horror panels. Haunt Mare Expo with two Es dot com. All right, we have a new edition. Big thanks to Sam here for the heads up on this. Several new editions will be coming up from this, but the main one right now is A September to Dismember, which every wrestling fan knows it should be December to Dismember, and that was a horrible pay-per-view. It disgraced ECW horribly. But anyways, that's September to Dismember, September 13th through the 15th in Arden, North Carolina, at Luthoridge. It is a campground, so this is important to note. Dress appropriately, as they warn you repeatedly on the site. Featuring a haunted trail, vendors, and various camp-related activities, including kayaking and things like that, apparently. Learn more at hauntfest.net.
[14:56] Right. Creep It Real Nostalgic is September 14th through the 15th at Santa Ana, California at the Heritage Museum of OC. See over 100 vendors uh creepitrealoc.com and finally after haunt season november 8th and 9th in cincinnati ohio it is the legendary haunt tour starting at the west end cincinnati but most of it takes place on a bus and like ghost places what are those places you ask well it's the factory of terror the dense schoolhouse the uss nightmare and the haunted laboratory exploratory legendary haunt tour to tease for more information it's a good lineup of haunts gotta say so anyways as we've said it's the episode of isla boy 4 so it's time to do the news.
[15:48] And, yeah, that story. All right, well, I'll just jump into it. This article comes from Craig Shoup at the Tennessean. A McKamey Manor owner faces attempted murder and rape charges following domestic altercation. Now, I'll give the usual caveats here. We do not like discussing Russ McKamey in any capacity. Right. We think he is a terrible shit-stain of a human being who does not run a haunted house, but yet somehow, through his public media campaign, has managed to breathe way too much of the industry's air. And so we don't like talking about him without good reason. That said, Reckless Ben did give us a lot of good reason to discuss him. That was quite entertaining, but this is not that. This is unfortunately a very serious and very heavy story.
[16:45] Basically he and his domestic partner were involved in a but they originally called a domestic dispute he was charged with domestic assault but after speaking with the victims it seems he charges have been upped quite significantly they're saying he strangled the woman identified as a girlfriend and then repeatedly raped her during and raped her during a domestic altercation he's expected for his initial court appearance in August 6 and his bond was set at $60,000 um yes and I found it interesting that the assistant Tennessee Attorney General Christine Knowles yeah actually sent a letter about this yes she stated that it that.
[17:40] Had expressed concerns over the haunted attractions practices, which quote unquote business practices. Yeah. I'm calling it a business to be a bit of a leap too, but yeah. And basically saying it does not honor, it does not offer or honor participants wishes to stop during the quote unquote tour. Once again, from what we've seen, ain't much of a tour either. Referencing a Hulu documentary, McKinney says we're known for no quitting and no safe wording. Yeah. Which is something he has said publicly, not just in that documentary, but he said other things to that effect elsewhere. Well, and, you know, that is basically evidence against him. Yeah. And now it's recorded in a doc again. Yeah. Again. So. And that's one of the things that's been so frustrating for people like us is that he has made those kinds of statements repeatedly. He has been accused of those things repeatedly and nothing has been done.
[18:44] Nothing. No real legal repercussions. And now someone got very seriously hurt. No, it never had to get to this point. No. And that really pisses me off on a very fundamental level. It's like this. It never should have gotten here. Right. Never, ever. It should have been known that it was assault when people stopped consenting to being tortured, basically. Yeah. And that's what it is. It is. I mean, the example I use all the time is if you and I sign an agreement to have a boxing match.
[19:22] And after four rounds or whatever, I say, you know what? I'm done. I'm tired of fighting. Take out my mouthpiece. Take off my gloves and start to leave. And you start punching me again. That's assault. Or even if, you know, as we step into the ring, I say, no, I'm not up for fighting today. I don't feel like doing it. No blows have been thrown even. Yeah, yeah, exactly. You can withdraw consent at any time. Exactly. And that's one of the reasons why consent forms at haunts are meaningless. Because the customer that just proves they consented to it at the ticket booth yeah or online before they came that says nothing about their consent in the actual moment yeah and I think that we've done we've had this conversation before yeah the that Knowles was saying that she was not surprised by the charges against him yeah basically it was a statement in support of the charges. Yeah. And his attorney is saying that the charges are fabricated as part of the investigation started months ago by the AG. That screams bullshit to me. Oh yeah. It's complete bullshit. Because these are very different charges that came from local law enforcement, not state officials. This is a very, very different set of charges.
[20:46] I'm mad it got to this point. I'm mad that this is what it took to get him arrested. It sounds like McKamey Manor, and I'm doing the air quotes even though this is an audio-only podcast and no one can see it, but my understanding is that McKamey Manor stopped sometime after After the Reckless Ben videos stopped functioning as a quote-unquote haunted house, which it hasn't been in eons anyway. So whatever Russ was doing had stopped. But Russ is, without a doubt, a shit human being. And there's just no kind way, couched way to say that. Anyone who would do what he does and enjoy it is a shit human being. Yeah. That is my opinion, and it is as close to a statement of fact that an opinion can be. But it's, I'm pissed off it took this long. I'm pissed off someone had to get hurt this badly. I'm frustrated. But I hope, maybe against hope, that McKamey Manor is going to be moved to a correctional facility somewhere in Tennessee.
[22:00] I i i hope that is i hope this sticks i basically i hope this sticks i hope he spends time in prison and i hope that whenever he does get out because he will almost certainly get out at some point he comes out as a different person because yeah i don't know i'm just the main takeaway for me is how pissed i am that it had to get to this point where second degree murder charges were necessary you know like I don't know the details no basically the details are are what we've said you can read the articles for yourself there's plenty out there they inundated the searches yeah we basically we seem a a little bit skint on Haunted Attractions. One of the problems we had was this story came up so many fucking times in our alerts and our feeds. Yes. That whatever else was buried and was required a lot of other searching. So a lot of work went into the stories that are not this one.
[23:12] So please bear with us this episode. So why don't we talk about one of those other episodes now? I feel like... One of the other stories? stories yeah those stories let's talk about something else okay um dystopian thriller film that was filmed in columbus county on two um is set to open diana matthews and that's a really confusing headline because it's not actually an an opening of a haunted house it is a movie called population purge that got 30 local extras playing scalpers and survivors and that's their terms uh filming wrapped up in 2022 but the pre-sale just went on um and that's not uncommon for a lot of independent films by the way right i mean we've done independent films before that i've never seen the light of day because even though filming wrapped other issues along the post-production side happen so that's not uncommon yeah and the plot is based around the idea that only a b positive people are immune to from a radical government plot to poison citizens.
[24:23] Yeah i don't know if now's a good time we're talking about that yeah that release that yeah that's that's that's a little bit awkward uh but yeah no it's actually a very um interesting story I think yes we'll just go to the next one okay.
[24:46] No, that's... Okay. Okay, first we have to talk about the Texas Haunters Convention. Yes. Oh, that one got skipped. The Texas Haunters Convention took place recently, and there was apparently a kerfuffle over parking. And it was bad enough kerfuffle that they released a statement on their Facebook basically saying that they had arranged to have use of certain lots and that for reasons that were unclear, despite those arrangements, those lots were closed and blocked off and, attendees were not allowed to park, causing massive shortages of parking.
[25:27] And basically they said, please feel free to pass on any additional issues or complaints to the city of Mesquite, or... And the Mesquite Arena. Yeah, the Mesquite Arena. Because the Mesquite Arena decided that it would block off parking to be charged for its rodeo event. Yeah, and this happened on the last day. Yeah. Like, things went fine, apparently Friday and Saturday, and shit went tits up Sunday. Yeah. That's what it sounds like. That sounds like the last time we were there. Yeah, and, you know, to me, the real takeaway here is they are changing location next year to the Irving Convention Center. And we are stoked about that here at home with the headquarters. That is the news that we wanted to actually fucking get to. We don't really give much of a shit about the parking stuff. No offense to anyone who was impacted by it at work. I know how frustrating it can be. Yeah, you take care of that on your own. But that is not the news for us personally. It is the Irving Convention Center. We'll be hosting it next year, and that is great news. Right, and we're excited about it because that means that we may be able to go to it. No promises yet. It's a year off.
[26:40] But we could not go to the Mesquite one because of the Rodeo, because I had an allergic reaction, a really, really bad one.
[26:48] Yeah, to the cedar chips that were used. You have a cedar. Something with the Rodeo. Yeah, something with the mulch. And it was bad. It was genuinely terrifyingly bad. As someone who literally has no allergies, I feel so lucky because I see both you and Ellie struggle with your allergies. And when something like that happens it just terrifies the shit out of me but yeah so like yeah we can't go back there it we had a great time the event was well done everyone was great it was amazing but death but on the other hand potential anaphylaxis you know because, jesus that was scary so no promises but with the new location we may be able to go next year and I'm hoping we're able to. Okay, and real fast, I didn't want to talk too much about this one because all we have is a press release.
[27:42] But basically, Silicon Valley Haunt Investors and the Bailey Entertainment Group have forged a partnership. I don't really know all the details, but basically you have a Haunt Investor Group named Silicon Valley Haunt Investors who's teaming up with the Bailey Entertainment Group, is known for doing design and creating experiences, especially at theme parks. This is where they seem to do a lot of their work. But they are creating this new effort to, as they say, elevate the standards of haunted attractions nationwide. Now, what that could mean is anything from they are going to invest in haunts to help them improve, or it could be more of the centralization that we've been fearing.
[28:30] And honestly the rest of this is just PR fluff and guff yeah and I understand why you're like do we really want to include this in here but.
[28:40] This is happening. There's money, big money being thrown around in this industry right now. We'll see to what end. That's the problem. It's like I said, we can't really. Basically, they are just announcing they're working together, but not saying anything firm about plans. Yeah, we actually met the Silicon Valley people at Transworld. They were the Haunt Investors people. Okay. That was them. We actually stopped by their booth and chatted with them for a bit. So we both actually met them. But I know very, very little. And basically what they told us there was they only invest in established haunts. Someone like us, if we were looking to make the jump to pro, that we're not going to be the target. No. They want established haunts with a track record that they can improve. And hopefully that is the attitude that this will continue. Because I think it is a potentially great idea to partner with. Because like I said, bringing in the knowledge from the theme park side and the very high-end side of things, that could really help a lot of up-and-coming haunts, if that's what this does. But I still worry about centralization and about cutting out sort of the middle class and the middle tier of haunts. So we'll see how it goes. Like I said, this is a PR announcement, so it's all fluff and stuff that you really can't pull much out of. But it's something to keep an eye on.
[30:02] All right. Now we can move on. Okay. And sorry if I mispronounced this. Oh, God. Well, you know, I just fucked Crystal pretty bad unintentionally. I'm sorry. No, no, I think I did it to myself.
[30:13] The Efteling sets Halloween opening date for Don's Macabre Ride. This is by... Okay, I think you nailed Efteling, but it's Don's Macabre, I think.
[30:25] I don't know. I don't think you pronounced the R in that. Everyone, let us know how you pronounce it. I think it depends on where you're from. Oh, I think that's also true, too, and this is Netherlands, so all bets are off. Yeah. Okay, we're both wrong. I'm pretty sure it's something weirder. Yeah, this is from... They have a phonetic language. Why does Dutch don't the Finnish do? Yeah. Dutch is not phonetic. I don't think... Let us know if Dutch is phonetic. We should just ask Ellie. We should do it on Facebook, though. Oh, no, Jesus Christ. Are you trying to get the house burned down? No. Okay. Take whatever this is.
[31:08] This is from B. Mitchell on BlueLoop.com. B.A. Mitchell. Like B. Arthur B. Yes. From BlueLoop.com. Oh, man. B-L-O-O-P. Jesus Christ. Yes. This is a nightmare. Fling in the Netherlands is opening its new haunted attraction on Halloween this year. Uh it's the it's the park that was formerly spooks a lot haunted house um located in the mysterious abbey with terrifying history the design team visited several abbeys in belgium for inspiration uh per the release they have been working on it for two years and it's going to be a dark ride experience where guests move to the symphonic poem of the same name of French composer Camille Saint-Saƫns. Yeah, this sounds like an interesting concept.
[32:13] It's going to be, yeah, they tried to explain what the ride is, and I just got more confused every word I read. It's located at basically a 17 000 square meter theme which is huge yeah themed area called.
[32:32] Oh fuck me the high run a nude yeah yeah fucking phonetic language my aching asshole wyverwood oh yeah wyverwood wyverwood forest um basically that's how i would say it yeah you know why i want to run with it because it sounds better than what i was about to do and yeah it's going to feature retail dining and other elements too the ride itself is going to be a turntable which sits upon another turntable that's going to flip like a coin yeah i don't know it's it's i'm very interested to see um what they're doing yeah i'm gonna i'm looking for the video of this i want to see a video of this because it sounds really interesting uh it sounds batshit insane too but it also sounds like they've taken like an older dark ride an older haunted house type thing that was getting on in years and replaced it with a new dark ride attraction so very very cool and we could just be misreading this altogether yes i mean there could be something lost in translation obviously um yeah the investment in the area though um whatever Crystal said area is at around uh 35 million euros which is about 38 million dollars so yeah.
[33:52] This is going to be interesting. I'm going to be excited to see this. And yes, and when they eventually, archaeologists in the future, analyze the wreckage of this episode, I'm sure they will wonder what the fuck we were thinking. We may be a mystery in a thousand years for people. Okay, well, here's a simpler idea for what to do during the off-season.
[34:15] Eloise Asylum is hosting a country music festival, basically. This is an article by Amber Ainsworth at Box 2 Detroit. But Michael Ray, Love and Theft, and other country singers will be coming to the Asylum on August 3rd for the country music blowout on the grounds of the historic building. Basically, it's the home of the Eloise Asylum, but they will be turning it over to be a country music festival. Not big fans of country music. Have no idea who any of those musicians are. but yeah this is an interesting new way to expand upon the things they have been doing which is included escape rooms and paranormal tours yeah so very cool I think they were in our news last month too for the hockey player coming for a special oh you're right I think that was them yeah yeah so they're doing something monthly to get on our news you know then they're doing very much like Eastern State Penn does which is yeah they're well known for but they also seem to be doing some work to preserve and educate about the space itself. So very, very cool stuff.
[35:21] All right. All right. Six Flags Over Texas has announced the themes for this year. This is from KVUE.
[35:29] This is a YouTube video. Have fun with that. And basically, it is the announcer listing the themes and saying, no, no. Like, hell no. I'm not going to that. Yeah, that is the best part. I'm going to go in. Okay. Well, I could do that. I had forgotten that. I dropped that one in the list, I think. I completely forgotten that's what it was. But I did watch it and go, this has to be the one we choose.
[35:55] For that reason, you're absolutely right. Yeah. But the themes are. Themes are Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Conjuring, Saw, Stranger Things, and more.
[36:04] And they'll be open September 13th through November 3rd. Yes, that sounds awesome. Okay. And speaking of theme parks, well, okay, that was not necessarily the greatest transition. But Disney gets ready for Halloween for a good cause. This is an article by Gina Sirico at ABC 13. Nobody does Halloween like Disney, the quote reads. And as part of our commitment to Children's Hospitals, Disney is launching a brand new program this Halloween season. This is basically what Patrick Sagar told on the red carpet, which I believe is a program. For each costume purchased at DisneyStore.com, Disney will donate one costume to Starlight Children's Foundation.
[36:47] Basically, up to 20,000 costumes will be donated, and there are plenty to choose from in the Disney Store, DisneyStore.com slash HalloweenShop, or you can learn more about Starlight at Starlight.org slash HalloweenJoy. Yeah. Or just Google those things. I mean, honestly, you're just going to search for them anyway. Yeah. You're not going to get the URL for some asshole reading them to you on a podcast. Yeah, and they wanted to make it clear that they do have adult-sized costumes as well as child-sized. It's not just, you know, Disney isn't just for kids. We did work with Ween Dream. Yes. Which was a charity that got Halloween costumes.
[37:27] It did a similar thing. It donated Halloween costumes and then gave them out to kids. I think that charity is no longer... I have no idea. I have no idea. We lost contact during the pandemic. Yeah. Which is, I mean, yeah, I can see why, you know, donating costumes during a pandemic might be a small problem. It seems like the site is still up, at least. Well, don't say that just yet. Yeah, you just clicked in it and gone. So we'll come back and talk more about Ween Dream later. But they were a local, they were slash are a local charity who has done this for years and done thousands and thousands of costumes. They really did. Yeah, it doesn't look like they've posted anything since 2022. Yeah, we lost touch in the pandemic and it looks like, so for us and this being a charity we were passionate about, Starlight might be a new place to shift some effort. So that's kind of cool. Yeah.
[38:22] All right next up evansville's massive new haunted house announces opening weekend this is in evansville indiana and from wkdq um it started as a home haunt called nightmare on east brook and grew until it stopped traffic and everyone was commenting on the professional quality, so they are now opening um evansville nightmare factory pro tip open your home haunt on a court court.
[38:51] Can't stop traffic if you're on a court. I mean, you could, but yeah. But we don't impact nearly as many people is what it comes down to. Right. But they'll be opening on September 13th as well in a 17,000 square foot warehouse. That is really, really cool to see a home hunter make the jump in such a big way. Like every time we've talked about the possibility of going pro, we were like how can we do this at a medium size yeah we wanted to look at something that was in the five to ten thousand square foot range and um seventeen thousand that's a huge leap from home on so good luck to y'all i hope it's good hope it goes well and we'll be following it and our final story is we get an
[39:37] exclusive sneak peek at birmingham's newest haunted attraction this is by Nathan Watson at B-H-A-M Now. I don't... BAM Now. BAM Now? Yeah, like Bama. Anyways, it deals with Birmingham... Conjure Haunted Attraction, which I guess we'll have to go see because Birmingham is in our radius. It is. So... And there's more reasons. Yes. It'll be a year-round non-profit to support Andrew's Place, an organization dedicated to helping LGBTQIA plus survivors of domestic dispute... Abuse. Abuse. that's what the master computer yeah can I say that no you said dispute.
[40:16] Okay i i domestic abuse was what was written i don't know what my my curlish tongue decided to say but regardless they started building on it in 2023 grand opening will be september 21st.
[40:32] Uh basically the friends met at a halloween event and decided to do this together and i think that is incredibly awesome yeah yeah i am looking forward to this because it's since it's year -round. We'll probably be heading that way in December. Well, we will see what their exact year-round schedule is going to be like, but, and then if they're going to be doing year-round charity stuff or if the haunt's year-round, it's a little bit unclear. It's this, it is year-round and it all goes to charity. Okay, so it is a year-round haunt. Yes. Okay, well, we will be checking it out at some point, definitely, and like you said, December might be better with timing because your work will, both of our jobs will be a little more calm, a little more calm. And Ellie will be able to take off some of the days that are not store days. Yes. So we will be seeking what we don't know what the schedule is, but we will be coming out and looking forward to hearing about how this goes. It's going to be a lot of fun. And I'm very interested about a year round haunt in Birmingham too. Yeah. Usually year round haunts are in super high tourist areas. I just don't know how much, But I legit do not know how much tourism Birmingham gets. Yeah. That's legit. I don't know. I've only visited Birmingham a couple of times as a stopover on the way to once to Atlanta.
[41:47] Well, and I think that that's the thing is that there's enough traffic because it's on a major road.
[41:54] And yeah. And so I think that may be exactly what they're banking on.
[41:59] Well, on that note, everyone, thank you very much for joining us for this episode. It was indeed a train wreck, but we blame the Dutch for that. We don't do that. Dutch people wrecked Haunt Weekly. We demand just... No, we don't. We blame exhaustion for that. Yes, well, that's... Okay, that's probably more accurate, but it's much less funny. Yeah. But on that note, please do check out all the other places we are. HauntWeekly.com, HauntWeekly on Twitter, HauntWeekly on Facebook, and YouTube.com slash Haunt Weekly. Until next time, I'm Jonathan. I'm Crystal. And we will see you all next week, and hopefully things will be a little more calm. Thank you very much for your patience, and we'll see you then.
