What happens when you mix billionaire bravado, unyielding political ambition, and an unprecedented media presence? We unravel the intricate mystique of Donald J. Trump, dissecting his controversial presidency and his refusal to concede the 2020 election. We dig deep into his personality traits - especially his defiance against loss and the status quo - to understand why so many remain magnetized by his polarizing yet captivating allure. Learn how his wealth and perceived immunity from consequences make him an aspirational figure for many Americans.
We explore the cultural and societal dynamics that have led some Americans, particularly from economically disadvantaged and rural backgrounds, to gravitate toward Trump. Drawing insights from Tennessee Brando, we examine the shift in regions like West Virginia, where the wealthy were once despised but are now idolized. We also discuss the role of race and identity in shaping political allegiances, highlighting the paradox of supporting a flawed individual with a questionable reputation. This conversation dives into the allure of antiheroes and how Trump's persona fits into this cultural phenomenon.
Finally, we tackle the contentious issue of racism in American politics, particularly under Trump's leadership. We debate the implications of his policies on existing prejudices and inequalities, even as his platform claims to champion freedom for all. By examining Trump's tax cuts favoring the rich and discussing the broader impact of political choices, we provide a cautionary tale for voters. This episode promises a thought-provoking journey into understanding the complex motivations behind Trump's enduring appeal and its broader implications for American society.
The Mystique of Donald Trump
Speaker 1recording. We're back this time I'm saying we're back, we're back, hey, hey. Hey, this is big brother Mike. We'll do it the other way. This is little brother Steve. We did it the other way. He's the good looking one, but I'm the smart one, so they say. But today, steve, I gotta ask you a question. Yes, please, maybe you understand We've been tipping around this topic. We'll probably do it at least one more, One more time Between now and the election. And that's the unusual mystique almost frightening mystique of one Donald J Trump.
Speaker 1He was our president for four years 2016, 2020. He lost the popular vote in that one, okay. 2020, he lost the popular vote in that one, okay, but won the Electoral College, which during that whole election, he tried to be done away with until he won, because Hillary Clinton who's also distasteful to me won the popular vote. But you know, even though this is the 21st century, we're still using 18th century, 19th century voting tactics. The next election, in 2020, he did not win, once again lost the popular vote, which he ignored, and lost the electoral vote. He went nuts.
Speaker 1You've got a person who's never lost anything or never been allowed to lose anything. He's that guy that, when we were kids that would be continuing to play. Let's play one more game. Let's play one more game. We're going to play and play until I win. Okay, somebody let Donnie win Donnie. Has no one let Donnie win? Person never been accountable for their actions. And now he's running for president. He wins Okay. And now he's running for president, he wins Okay, he wins the second time he loses.
Speaker 1Does he say, okay, I don't think this was fair. I'm going to investigate this stuff. I don't think this was fair. So you guys better buckle up. I'm coming back in 2024 and I'm kicking ass and taking that. Did you do that? This guy decided to upset the whole apple cart. This is the guy who upsets the chess board after he lost for four times in a row. And yet, steve, 50% of the people want this guy to be their leader. Before I go into my thing and this is not so much steeped in facts what do you think? You're an adult, you've been on this planet a long time. You've seen, probably like me, what 10, 12 presidents. What is the mystique of this person? Maybe there's something that I'm missing the mystique of this person is.
Speaker 2He's not an original politician and he has lots of money?
Speaker 1I don't think so, but go ahead. Well, you said the mystique, that's right.
Speaker 2Yeah, mystique, and he has lots of money, and that's the person I would like to be. That's what I think is what people see in him. You know, he's not a politician, he has a TV show, he's on the football team, he did so much, he's got a gorgeous wife, gorgeous wives and he doesn't have to account for anything to anybody. All right, he's not accountable for anything, and so that's what we are. We would all like to have a lot of money and be doing what we want, and nobody held us responsible for anything we did. And that's what it is, and that's what these people see and would like to be like. All right, and they think, by associating themselves or aligning with this particular individual, you can be like him.
The Appeal of Donald Trump
Speaker 1See, I think, as ridiculous as that sounds, it's true. Yeah, it's true, it's true. There's a guy who does some YouTube videos. His name is Tennessee Brando His name is Brandon, but they call him Tennessee Brando and he makes a great point. He said I'm from the hills of West Virginia. He said man, we grew up hating people like Donald Trump. We hated to watch that TV show Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. We hated when somebody from New York would come down here with their big cars and rent a house up in the hills of West Virginia and drive all around town in their Mercedes. We hated that. Well, I hope I catch one of these New York guys. I'll knock his ass out. They hit.
Speaker 1And yet that person, that type of person rich, white, almost aristocratic is who these people follow. And he said how did this guy go from the devil to almost Jesus Christ himself? I think for me and I know people say you find this everywhere, mike I think the number one reason man is race. I just believe that these people see that I'm losing who I am. I've never been too much. All I've ever done was change tires. All I've ever done has been a guy who does carpentry or does lawns. I'm not college educated, people don't take me seriously. And now here's somebody who at least pretends to do that. All I've had up until now has been my whiteness Not educated, not real smart. Even one of my own people, the comedian Jeff Foxworthy, made a whole career out of saying what, if you go to a family reunion to pick up women, you might be a redneck, made millions laughing at these people. Okay, and I'm sure the people laughed along, but inside they were fuming because he's right. And now you think, well, that's okay, that's okay, I'm white. But then all of a sudden and think, well, that's okay, that's okay, I'm white. But then, all of a sudden, and I have certain things that will always be white. But then here comes this guy named Tiger Woods. We don't have golf anymore, but we still got tennis. No. Here come these two little sisters from LA, venus and Serena. Well, okay, they're making, they're making. They'll never be president of the United States, barack Obama.
Speaker 1Every one of these, these, for me, I believe, every one of these games by African-American people or other people of color, are like paper cuts on the psyche of white America. And even last night I was the trials for the Paris Olympics, because the Olympics are coming in about three months, two months. I'm pumped. I love the summer Olympics. Simone Biles I forget the other young black lady's name and the young lady I think her name is Suni Lee. Asian woman no white women Gymnastics Years ago. Mary Lou Retton.
Speaker 1Europeans not anymore, you know. Or European descent people no one's looking out for us. We poor, uneducated white Americans are still Americans, but no one's looking out for us. There's no programs for us. Why no one's looking out for us? And then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, on a white horse with a lance, comes their savior, donald Trump. I understand that, steve, but why such a flawed individual? Why somebody whose reputation if someone else, especially someone of color, had that even a tenth of that reputation had been accused of rape, not convicted, bro, accused of rape, okay would not have a chance to even smell a nomination for president?
Speaker 2So once again, I think it's the people who cheer the bad guy. I'm going to relate to a cowboy movie. So you know, we always see a lot of cowboy movies and a good guy always conquers the bad guys. All right, but every now and then the bad guys get away. People want to be the bad guy that gets away. I don't know they want to be the guy on the dark horse that gets away. I don't know they want to be the guy on the dark horse that comes into town and shoots up the town and gets away. Scot-clean.
Speaker 1Some of the things I've heard and I have to do with that. Yeah, I heard this one, and sometimes I look at these videos of Trump rallies, which, to me, are just stand-up comedy shows. Okay, people sort of like him because he's funny and, you know, people want to be close to power and he does. He is, he does, a person with power. I could understand this guy if he hadn't messed up the COVID, the whole COVID thing by denying that happened. Okay, yeah, I could understand if this guy wasn't, like, accused of being a rapist and a racist. Okay, and so I don't understand what number you're on. You know me on mic four On four. Yeah, can you hear yourself now? Hey, we got some technical things here. I don't understand how people can just buy into this that way, and so I'm kind of lost and wondering once again what your thoughts are on it.
Speaker 2So I'm thinking the amount of people in America, 330 million people in America. I'm thinking 130 of those people, 130 million. Of those 330 million people. That might be a big number. I'm thinking around between 75 and 100 million people are on the dark side Because when you look at the big picture, there's a lot of crime going on in this country, of crime going on in this country, and so, out of 330, 250, 225 people are true, good and honest, but the other 175 million are all looking to get over or get away with something wrong.
Speaker 2All right, they're not. They're bad people. You know anything from the scammers to the bank robbers, to all the things that happen that we see and read about in the news. They're doing something wrong and they get away with it. And who is that person? Who is that person? That's the man that's running for president and somehow they love it. Yeah, he gets away. He gets away clean every time, up until here recently, when he finally been called on the carpet. But he'll get away clean with that, because the trick to any trial that is not a criminal trial is appeal, and once you appeal, once he appeals all these cases, it'll be four or five years before they make it back to the courtroom again.
Speaker 1Well, you know, and I agree, I mean 91 indictments Okay, we could have stopped at nine and he should have been disqualified, and on top of that, steve, he has the indictments. But it's also the fact that people believe that I guess I heard this one lady say we're under attack, we good people, we the good people, or whoever the good people are, because I think I'm good people, okay, are under attack. I'm good people, okay, are under attack. We have, we have, we have found out. Excuse me, we have actually heard this lady. I heard this lady say wasn't like the typical Trump people with t-shirts on and dogs dressed up like Donald Trump, et cetera, these people, this woman says sir, we are under attack. We good Christian people are under attack from an evil force. This is what this lady believes. He didn't seem to be nuts, okay, from an evil force. And sometimes it takes an evil person to fight evil. And I was like but you guys are white Americans. That's the top of the food chain. If you're a white American male, you're definitely the top of the food chain. What are you under attack from? I wasn't able to ask her that, obviously, because it's just a video, but she was very sincere.
Speaker 1Yet I thought about that. If I had a situation in my neighborhood where somebody was bullying me, my family and I couldn't handle it, and I knew that little Juju's brother out there just got out of prison for hurting people if I couldn't handle myself, I would go and say little Juju, you need to talk to your brother. Man, I know, you know my brother's got a job. Man, I need him. Man, I need him because I can't handle this myself. People see our society. I don't know how you see our society like that, but we good Christian people, even though we know this guy's the devil, but we think we need the devil to fight the devil. I don't understand how white people can see America like that, but they do, and this is a guy that will, if he's in, and folks, if you're listening, find Project 2025 or the 2025 Project and look at the playbook that they have laid out.
Speaker 2I'll pick up a copy of Time Magazine. Thank you.
Speaker 1Okay, if you get a chance Now, of course, Time Magazine. What date would that be? That would be Will we pass that? I don't really know. It's going to be sometime in May. You can go online and find the back issues, but he's on the cover and listen, read that over, Steve, what you got. A date there on the issue.
Speaker 2May 27th 2024.
Speaker 1Okay, so check that issue out Just recently Okay.
Speaker 2Very recent.
Speaker 1Okay, yep, yep, it's not even. In fact, it's the upcoming, it's the newest one. Okay, check that out and there'll be plenty more. He's already been on the cover a number of times.
Speaker 2May 17th. May 17th.
Speaker 1May 17th. Check that issue out. The May 17th issue. I just bringing it up. We'll probably talk about it two or three. Well, I'll say one or two more times before we move toward election time. We're going to find out what's happening with these indictments. This has been a total change. But one thing we found out see you talked about it, matt Two things we know now thanks to COVID. One, we kind of knew it because statistics said it, but we couldn't really see it the United States is not the most educated nation in the world. It's not the best educated nation in the world. Well, we knew that statistics at other countries were better educated, but I think COVID, and during that period in the Trump era, has allowed us to see people who will split with their family, not speak with their kids, not have Christmas dinner for the past three or four years, lose their jobs for this person. Steve, do you think this guy started the riot on January 6th?
Speaker 2Well, you know it was planned. You know it was planned.
Speaker 1You mean it wasn't just terrorists walking by who got caught up in the moment?
Speaker 2No, it was planned, but he was part of the plan. It was planned. You just don't come up with that many people in one day or two days and this was all planned out before. If this, if that and it was planned out by the think box. You know, If this or that happens, this is what we'll do. So it was planned, and just his presence reassured that the plan was valid.
Speaker 1Yeah, I think they knew he was in town. Everybody wanted to get a pat on the head from the boss. I'm going to go ahead here. And I lived in DC and I've walked by the Capitol many times and I just never saw anybody with a guillotine. Never saw anybody that appeared to be carrying like police shields, billy clubs, skateboards, okay, but yet there those things were and people, because of their desperation to hang on to this white supremacy, are willing to say, with a straight face, people that are educated you look at their resume Harvard, yale, stanford and they say with a straight face well, this was just some tourists that were walking by and maybe they got caught up in the moment.
Speaker 1The other thing that makes that point to that, whether he started it or not, the man sat there and ate cheeseburgers for three and a half hours and watched it. Whether he started it or not, this is on your nation's capital. But see, but it's not about he wanted to be his. It wasn't on his capital, it was on the American people's capital. I think we went for some rude awakenings if this guy actually gets in. Just briefly, steve, why do you think black people like this guy? This is a guy that made people think that Obama wasn't an American.
Speaker 2Once again, I think these are wannabes. They want to be what he represents, what he stands for, what he is, which they think is filthy, rich. He's a guy who gets away with stuff. But also I spoke with a black woman who stated that, and it is partially true, that the amount of immigrants coming into this country is overwhelming. True, and it is causing problems in the American society and in neighborhoods and society, and the current president doesn't seem to be bothered by the fact that these people are coming in here.
Speaker 1Not true at all. They had a bill Not to. And your boy said don't pass it because I want to be in charge, I want to be the president when we pass that. We had a bill. So that's why he didn't pass the bill Before the bill. Once the word got out that a senator his name was Robert Lankford, I think his name was Once they found out that they vilified this guy as a Republican, crossed over, shook hands with the Democrats and put a bill in place. Before the bill was even people knew what was in the bill. The word came down to kill it. They didn't even know what was in it. Kill it. It was a bipartisan.
Speaker 1So Biden killed the bill to Trump. The Republicans killed the bill, okay, in Congress it never they killed. It didn't have enough votes. People didn't even know what was in it, right? So they really don't. It's not about the and your point is exactly right. I don't care who you press. We can't have people just coming all over, Right Okay, just because they're having a tough time in their country.
Speaker 2And not only that. Some of these individuals who come to our country are using our laws to implement their beliefs and their laws.
Speaker 1There's clearly a problem. You're exactly right. And people coming on the dime, and once again you're in West Virginia, indiana, poor white person making meat, and you see people getting programs and gifts and money, bmws, okay, bmws.
Speaker 2Mercedes-Benz. They drive Mercedes-Benz and BMWs. There is a community. Oh, come on, man, you got proof of that.
Speaker 1Yeah, I see that these immigrants are driving.
Speaker 2BMWs. Well, some of them, Not the ones that are coming across the water, but some that are already here. Oh well, those are. Americans, though, okay.
Speaker 1Okay, those are maybe Latino.
Speaker 2I'm not necessarily talking about Latinos.
Speaker 1Oh, we're talking about the border.
Speaker 2There are other nationalities here, that have been here, that are setting up shop.
Speaker 1Well, that's probably because the thing about the border is and I think it's what upset people I think people could tolerate the border when only Mexicans were coming across.
Speaker 2Here's the thing to think about. If let's say, let's say, 450,000 Americans moved into Turkey or moved into Mexico, would that be an attention getter? Oh, absolutely. And would they want those people to stay? Probably not Right. Probably not Right, probably not. Go back where you came from, go back where you came from. So we can't go there and set up camp, but they're able to come here and set up camp and do some things that we who are here aren't allowed to do I agree, and this is where I think all America is in agreement.
Speaker 1Yeah, all right. Is this the right guy?
Speaker 2the guy who separated this, and it doesn't seem like Biden really doesn't, really he don't care if they do that.
Speaker 1I think he does. I just think he's got a very piss poor. I'm going to use that right here on the podcast communication staff Okay, Trump's is way, way, way louder. I think also, a lot of these people are coming into places that are red state. They don't come into New York City, they don't come into oh, they come into Texas, oh no.
Speaker 2New Mexico. I think they're coming to New York City too.
Speaker 1Not over the border, but they eventually find their way to New York City. Okay, but they're coming in over that border and that's where a lot of poor Americans live, people fighting for jobs. There are even Latino Americans. There are Americans that are like, hey, no, you know, these are my people, but y'all just can't. My mom and dad came here. They worked hard, they sent for me and my grandmother Okay, that's how we got here Two generations, and so y'all just can't show up, and I understand.
Speaker 2But those Latinos aren't voting for Biden. No, I don't even know who votes for Biden. Because you know what? Because they've come to America and they've found success. So they want to keep finding it and they think that success is through.
Debating Trump's Presidency and Policies
Speaker 1He's got a lot of Latino backers. That's right. You're right. I mean, I will tell you, I'm a conservative person. I'm a conservative person. I'm not a conservative, but I'm conservative on some things. There's times that I would look at the Republican Party, but they've yet to show me a leader who wasn't a racist. Okay, if they would bring out I like a couple of the guys that they had, but those people are not. I like Liz Cheney. I like the guy who got kicked out. Can't call his name Kaczynski, I think was the name who sat with Liz Cheney. But they don't want those guys they call those rhinos Republican to name them.
Speaker 2So have all the Republican presidents been racist? Yes, okay. So with that being said, then we're going to have a racist president.
Speaker 1Yeah, if Trump wins. Yeah, I mean, every American is racist in some way, but Trump would make those things that people feel they'd make, some of those things policy Already. You know, in the land of the freebie guy, the guy who's running on the platform of taking away freedoms in the land of the freebie yeah, that's a good idea. What do these people have to be careful of? Be careful what you wish for. If you think he's going to come and just lay these laws down on people that you don't like, think again. Okay, because once he's in, he says okay, thank you for your vote. Now go over there and sit down and shut up and take yourself back to hillbilly heaven. But what about shut up? This is all for my rich friends. He did have largest tax cut in history, but guess who got most of it? Right, the rich friends, the rich friends, the rich friends. So I just don't understand it.
Speaker 1We're going to go ahead and we're going to have more to talk about. We're going to get out of here because we've got one more guest that will be coming in soon. You can hear that podcast. So we're going to wrap it up and say this Big Brother Mike, little Brother Steve, we're talking about Trump. We can do it some.
