W/C 13th November 2023 TisTalk – What’s on

On MONDAY 13th Nov:

TISBURY FOOTPATH CLUB are getting together for their monthly maintenance of clearing overgrown vegetation and improving footpaths in Tisbury and the surrounding parishes. This is at 9:30am.  If you wish to join them, do contact Roger Walker on 01747 871105.

 

On Monday evening, TISBURY FIRE STATION are holding an ‘Open Evening’ at the Fire Station to share information about the work they do. If you are interested, pop in between 7-8:30pm. They are also recruiting paid on-call firefighters should that be of interest.

 

On TUESDAY 14th:

TISBURY HISTORY SOCIETY is giving a talk on ‘Shaftesbury - Alfred’s Abbey, Alfred’s town’ by Julian Richards. This is in the Hinton Hall at 7:30pm.

 

On WEDNESDAY 15th:

There is the TISBUS OUTING to BATH. To book your space call 07500 802525 or email coordinator@tisbus.co.uk. The fare is £12 and it’s a 9am departure.

And the TISBURY MEMORY GROUP will be in the Hinton Hall again from 10-12pm when they will be welcoming back popular guest Lee Knott with his fabulous trumpet. 

 

In the afternoon, the FITNESS & FRIENDSHIP GROUP will be meeting for games, quizzes, Tai Chi and refreshments. This is in Nadder Close Sheltered Housing from 1-4pm. The session is £5 and new members are welcome. 

 

In the evening, the TISBURY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY are hosting a talk on ‘Plants grown for Fragrance throughout the year’ with Felicity Down. This is in the Methodist Hall at 7:30pm. Non-members are most welcome.

 

On THURSDAY 16th:

The Tea Ladies are holding an AFTERNOON TEA, with fabulous cakes and a Ukelele band in the Victoria Hall from 2:30-4:15. This is in aid of the Salisbury Samaritans and the cost is £5. Should you wish to support this cause call Marion on 01747 870813 to book a place.  

 

On Thursday evening, there is the CARNIVAL AWARDS NIGHT in the Victoria Hall from 6-8pm. In addition to celebrating the excellence of the carnival award winners, this is an opportunity to meet the committee and share ideas for next year’s events.

 

Also on Thursday evening, there is WINE TASTING in Hindon Village Stores at 7pm. Tickets for this are £10.

 

On FRIDAY 17th:

And Saturday, this week and again next Friday and Saturday, Clem is running her CHRISTMAS FAIR at Lower Lawn Barns. Opening times on all 4 days is 10am to 5pm. Entry is free and there will be a café.

 

On Friday evening there is a PREVIEW at Messums of Peter Brown’s ‘Country and Countries’ exhibition. It is from 6-8pm and entry is free, but Messums kindly ask you to book in advance. 

 

 

On SATURDAY 18th:

TISBURY FOOTPATH CLUB are organising a 6-mile circular walk around Sixpenny Handley. To book your space email Tom: tandcfordham@gmail.com and either meet at the Nadder Close car park at 9:15am or go straight to the Sixpenny Handley Village Hall for 9:45.

 

There is also the COMMUNITEA CAFE BREAKFAST at the Methodist Church from 9:30-12.

 

And the Tisbury COUNTRY MARKET will be in the Victoria Hall from 10-11am – and are now taking Christmas orders.

 

On Saturday evening there is the FAMILY QUIZ NIGHT, for Salisbury Hospice. This promises to be a fun evening for all ages, whether you are 9 or 90!  It’s in the Hinton Hall from 6:30-10:30pm. Tickets, which include supper, are £15 for adults and £8 for children and should be purchased by this Thursday 16th.

 

Also on Saturday evening is the NTLIVE production of ‘Skylight’. Starring Bill Nighy and Carey Mulligan in this critically acclaimed revival of David Hare’s play, directed by Stephen Daldry. It’s showing in the Victoria Hall at 7:30 with doors open from 7pm. Tickets are £15. 

 

On SUNDAY 19th: 

There is an ARTIST TALK by Peter Brown on his work ‘Country and Countries’ and the pleasure he takes connecting the serendipitous happenings of life unfolding around him. This is at Messums at 11:30. It is free to attend but please book a place.


 Also on Sunday, HUNTER GATHERING is hosting a lunch with an array of speakers who will be questioning the received orthodoxy about the climate change agenda and about 5G and AI. Tickets to include a curry lunch are £25. To book a place call Amanda on 07968 858860.
