Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to just another edition of Words from the Word of God Today. I thank you so much for joining us as we enter back into our study here in the book of Revelation, chapter 21 and 22, concerning our eternal home and the realization of Jesus' promises. I realize that the last time we left off we had made it as far as verse 11, but I want to draw your attention back to verse number nine, where we will start reading today and we'll read through verse 27 for the purpose of the message today. You have the word of god, you have access to it. Please turn here and read along with us chapter 21, beginning at verse 9, down through verse 27.

Speaker 1:

The word of God tells us here and there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vows, full of the seven last flags, and talked with me saying Come hither, I will show thee the bride, the lamb's wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain and showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God and her light was like unto a stone, most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal and had a wall, great and high, and had twelve gates and at the gates twelve angels and names written thereon which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel On the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates and on the west three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, the gates thereof and the wall thereof. And the city lie four square and the length is as large as the breadth. And he measured the city with the reed twelve thousand furlongs, the length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. And he measured the wall thereof a hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. And the building of the wall, the building of the wall of it was of jasper, and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.

Speaker 1:

You've heard of the golden streets, the pearly gates. Well, this is where that comes from. And the foundations, picking back up in verse 19,. And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite not chrystolite chrysolite, the eighth burl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprasis, the eleventh jason and the twelfth Amethyst. And the 12 gates were 12 pearls. Every several gate was one pearl.

Speaker 1:

You've heard of the pearly gates this is where this comes from and the streets of the city were pure gold, as it were, transparent glass, and I saw no temple therein, for the Lord, god Almighty, and the Lamb are the temple of it, and the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God did lighten it and the Lamb is the light thereof, and the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it. And the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honor into it, and the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day, for there shall be no night there, and they shall bring the glory and honor of the nations into it, and there shall in no wise enter into it anything that defileth neither whatsoever, worketh abomination or maketh a lie, but they which are written in the lamb's book of life. Thank you so much, lord, your word, and I pray that you bless it to our hearts today, the reading of your word to our hearts. Today, as we are given this, we look into the holy city, the New Jerusalem. John has been taken to this vantage point and we spoke about looking at these things through allowing the Holy Spirit to take us to the right vantage point, not looking from the vantage point that Satan would have us to look to, and that's from the vantage point where we see all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them and we get caught up in the sins of the world and the pleasures thereof, but yet rather we would. We need to be taken in the by the holy spirit.

Speaker 1:

As john is taken up in the spirit, we are taken by the spirit here in this high mountain where he is, and we're seeing, uh, our eternal home, the, the holy city, new jerusalem, and he's seeing this city come down. He's given a vantage point that he can see the entire city coming down from from, from God, out of heaven, as he says in verse two. And then he says right here, uh, in verse 10, he says I saw it descending out of heaven, from God. Either way, it comes from the divine, almighty God, his new Jerusalem, his holy city, our eternal home, which Christ has prepared for us. Coming down, he sees it coming down from a vantage point where he can view the whole city, and then he draws nearer to the city. This is a city that Abraham longed for. This is the city that Abraham longed for and looked for during his life, and though he did not see the promises come to pass in his lifetime, he still longed for them and remember what we talked about considering ourselves strangers and pilgrims here on this earth. This earth is not our home. What we see here and what we have put before us in the last two chapters of scripture, the last two chapters of the word of God, this is our home. This is the home that has been prepared for us and this is the realization of the promises of Jesus Christ.

Speaker 1:

From John, chapter 14, verses one through three, where he said ye, believe in God, believe also in me. In my father's house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go to prepare a place for you, I will return again and receive you unto myself, that where I am there you may be also. You must also remember the prayer of Christ there and John, his intercessory prayer on the way to the cross in the gospel of John, chapter 17 I believe it's verse 24 and I'm not exactly quoting it but he said father, I will those, all those you have given to me, would be with me, that where I am they may be also, that they may behold my glory.

Speaker 1:

Now we see this come to pass.

Speaker 1:

That prayer is answered.

Speaker 1:

That prayer is answered. That promise that Christ promised us one day is going to be answered. We will read in chapter 22 where he says twice behold, I come quickly. And then there I believe it's in verse 20, where he says surely, most assuredly, truly, I come quickly, speaking of the imminence of his return, speaking of the fact that he could return at any moment, when we least expect it. He is coming back to rapture us out of here, his body, his church, every two born again believer. He is going to rapture us out of here to be with him where he is.

Speaker 1:

And, folks, this is what we have set before us, this set before us here, on the pages of God's word, the words that are true and faithful, they're genuine and they're dependable. He sets it forth here on the pages of scripture, for us to take it to heart and for us to rejoice over. But we must be looking from the right vantage point and if we are allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us today and open our hearts up, we see the true blessing that comes from reading and hearing and the blessing that comes from keeping the things in our heart that are set before us here today in God's word. But we see the city that Abraham looked for. You know, I would encourage us today, as we look at these remarkable things, don't allow anyone and certain scholars will try to tell you and other uh, you know interpreters will tell you, this is all symbolic, this is all symbolism, it is doesn't speak of a literal place, uh, you know, because there's that those out there that interpret it as so and they interpret it as all symbolic.

Speaker 1:

Well, yes, there are symbolisms that are found here. Yes, there are. But it is just like when we study Scripture and we see the things of the tabernacle in the wilderness in the Old Testament and the temple in Jerusalem, there in the Old Testament, they are loaded with symbolic things the silver sockets, the gold and the brass and the various skins that were used there. Yes, they were symbolisms there that represented such things and typified and put pictures forth of, you know, the prophecy of the coming Messiah and spoke of Christ and his sacrifice and the sacrifice, even down to the sacrifices that were done there, the blood of the lamb, and so on and so forth. All of that was symbolism, but they were literal places. They were literal places. If anyone doubts that, they can ask Bezalel and Eliab, who were charged and carry the various components of the tabernacle through the 40-year journey in the wilderness and as we come to the Temple of Solomon. There was certainty, symbolism there, but it was a factual place. It was actually literally destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar. It was destroyed. The new temple was destroyed in 70 AD by the Romans. Those were literal places.

Speaker 1:

Now, as we come to this city, our eternal home, yes, there's many symbolic things spoken of here and speaks to our hearts in a symbolic way, but as we get here and we begin to realize more and more that everything that speaks and reflects the glory of God, but it is a literal, remarkable place, it is a reality. It is the place that Christ has gone to prepare for us. Not only did he prepare the place, but he has made the way, the new and living way, and because this is reality, it creates hope in our heart and hope, as scripture says, is the anchor for our soul, as our souls are anchored there with him in glory, as he is seated at the right hand of the father in glory. So don't let anyone, don't allow anyone to tell you oh, this is, this doesn't represent a real place. It does, it's just all symbolic, that's hogwash, and I think that's a lie from the enemy, and I think those that say such things are somewhat blinded from the truth of Scripture. But we'll move on.

Speaker 1:

But I want you to remember that this city, yes, it is a real place, you know, as Jesus said in John 14, chapters 1 through 3, but we must remember, as remarkable as all this is and all of its grandeur, the most staggering and remarkable thing to know and take from this and keep in our hearts is that we will finally be in the divine presence of Almighty God, our Father and the Lamb Jesus Christ, forever and ever. Yes, as we look at the size of the walls and I'm sure, most like me, many of you are staggered at as we look at these things, and we'll consider the size of the walls here in a moment. But just think about being here, being there. Then think about the, the moment we're there. I'm sure we will be greatly staggered at the, what our eyes take in. We will finally know what eyes and ears were created for when we get here. You know, the brilliance of the, the, the foundation, the garnished with all manner of stones, as a bride adorned for her husband, all the miraculous things that we will see streets of gold, gates, one gate being a pearl, so on and so forth the size of the wall. I'm sure we will be staggered for an eternity. You know, I've heard many say well, when I get to heaven, you know I'm gonna tell the man upstairs no, none of that happens. We will be so staggered.

Speaker 1:

But the most staggering, the most remarkable thing at all that we should take from this is that one day, soon, we are going to be face to face with Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, the Lamb that bears the marks of slaughter, by whose stripes we are healed. We are going to be in the presence of our Savior and we're going to see him face to face. And if you ever realized that maybe possibly the only scars in heaven that will be in heaven are the scars that are upon the body of the lamb, his nail-scarred hands, his nail, his nail scarred feet, the his side that was thrust through with a sword excuse me, with a sphere, his, his brow that bears the marks of the crown of thorns, that is, was pushed down upon his head, all those marks that he, he, bore for us on Calvary's cross, those will be possibly the only scars that will ever be in heaven, forever and ever. But the fact that we will be in the presence of God, almighty, god, the Father, God, the Son and God, the Holy Spirit, for an eternity, we will be face to face with the Lamb of God, which came to take away the sins of the world, your sins and my sins, and not for our sins alone, for he is not perpetuation for our sins alone, but for the sins of the whole world. If people would only, if people would only only receive him by faith, that is the most, to me, the most remarkable. You know, I'm reminded, and let's look at the measurement of the walls here. You know, john tells us right here, as he is given, this viewpoint.

Speaker 1:

And then he's taken closer in to the city and he receives the measurements and records the measurements of the wall, and there's, some people think well, some scholars think, well, this is a pyramid. No, this is a cube. It is the. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. He says he measured it with a golden reed and it measured. What did it say? He measured 12,000 furlongs. In translation, that is 1,500 miles by 1,500 miles, by 1,500 miles, 1,500 miles long, 1,500 miles wide and 1,500 miles thick or, excuse me, high. Excuse me, I was going into the thickness, I was getting ahead of myself because in verse 17, a lot of people don't know what to do with 17, but I believe he's measuring the thickness of the wall, measuring the thickness of the wall which has 12 foundations, but it measures here, in Scripture, 144 cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. That in translation, as I have studied out, represents 72 yards, as we know it 72 yards thick, 1,500 miles high, 1,500 miles long and 1,500 miles wide.

Speaker 1:

We cannot, in our finite minds, imagine, we can't create this in our minds. Possibly we can, if you have enough imagination to you. You probably can, but to see it in reality is going to be something staggering in itself, something greatly staggering. And you know, I I'm reminded, you know that, of what the apostle paul said in romans, chapter 8, verse 18 as we take all this grandeur, the, the 12 foundations of this garnish with all of these 12 precious stones, and I'm sure there is not going to be any impurity to the stones, there's not going to be any impurity to the gold, there's not going to be any impurity and we goal, there's not going to be any impurity.

Speaker 1:

And we must understand that these things are never, ever going to grow old. It will be like seeing it new every single day that we're there. And I know it doesn't speak of days, but what I'm saying is you understand what I'm saying? Every time we see it, every time we look around us, it's going to be new, it's never going to grow old and there's certainly no impurity there, for there's no curse, there's no more fallen nature anywhere to be found, and we cannot comprehend that because we do not understand eternity. Our judgment of time is marked by hours and seconds, months and days and years, and as they pass by, things get old and they get older and they get older and finally, sometimes we just get tired of looking at certain things and we get rid of those things.

Speaker 1:

But can you imagine turning around, everywhere you look, and there's no impurity, there's nothing that is broken, there's nothing that grows old, everything is eternal and there are certainly no impurities in anything that you will see. It is all beautiful and it shines with the glory of God, and the lamb is the light thereof. How remarkable that it is. And I'm reminded, you know, it makes me realize that the sufferings here quickly fade away.

Speaker 1:

As I consider our eternal home, I'm reminded of what the Apostle Paul writes in Romans, chapter 8, verse 18. He says for I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. The glory that is revealed to us is the glory of God and the Lamb. It says right there in verse 23,. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it, for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. We will be in his eternal presence. How remarkable is that going to be? And there's a lot here to rejoice in, certainly a lot. I mean when I say a lot, lot, that is an understatement all these remarkable things that we can rejoice in, we can find glory in.

Speaker 1:

But I'm reminded of what jesus told the disciples there in the gospel of luke, chapter 10, if you will look with there with me for a few minutes, there in chapter 10. I want to read verse 17 down through verse 20. And it says and the 70 returned again with joy, saying Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the powers of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding. And all this, rejoice not listen closely that the spirits are subject unto you, but rather rejoice. Rejoice because your names are written in heaven. Rejoice because your names are written in heaven. This relates to Revelation 21, 7, and this is the purpose of what I want you to see today.

Speaker 1:

All of what is revealed to us about our eternal home is truly remarkable. It is truly to be something to rejoice over, knowing what we have to look forward to. And that is a reason the Lord puts this before us that we would have that hope, that we would have that joy and that we would certainly rejoice in the place that he's prepared for us. But the most important thing he would have us to rejoice in is located there, in verse 27. He says, he says, which are written in the Lamb's book of life. Rejoice, yes, in all of this, but don't get caught rejoicing in it so much that you forget the most important thing that your name is written down in the Lamb's book of life. Because we are reminded in Revelation, chapter 20, we were talking about the final fate of all unbelievers. It says and whosoever verse 15 of chapter 20, and whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. This brings rejoicing into our heart.

Speaker 1:

As remarkable as our eternal home is, with the beautiful and breathtaking constructions and materials, the, the walls, 1500 by 1500 by 1500, thickness of 72 yards, 12 gates each made of one pearl, 12 names of sinners, of the children of Israel written in the gates, 12 foundations with 12 miraculous stones, adorned with those miraculous stones, the names of the 12 apostles written there. All of such grandeur and it's so much more than our finite minds could ever take in now and truly understand and comprehend the immeasurableness, the duration of it, it's an eternity, it's so much it's incomprehensible to our finite minds. The blessing of knowing that, the fullness of God, the Father, god, the Son, and God, the Holy Spirit, in the fullness of his majesty, brightness and glory, all this to take in into our hearts and consider, all of this is something important. There is something more for us to rejoice in. There is something more that he would have us to put significance upon. There is something more that he would have us to put significance upon. There is something more that he would have us to take in our hearts today and to keep in our hearts today, and that is that our names are written in the Lamb's book of life, because that means you have come by faith, you have repented. You have come by faith, you have accepted his son as your Lord and Savior into your heart and you have been born from above, born again of the Spirit, born into his family. You are a son and daughter of the Most High God if your name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life and you have right to enter into this city. You are the only one, with all the other true born-again believers, whose names are written there with yours.

Speaker 1:

And I often wonder if it's written in the blood of the lamb, the blood that was shed on Calvary's cross to wash away our sins, that God could declare us righteous, that he could declare us justified, not guilty, just as if it never happened, cast into the depths of the sea, separated it from us as far from us as the east is from the west, so far are our sins from us by the precious blood of the Lamb of God, which came to take away the sins of the world. And I've often wondered if our names are written in his blood. That confirms that. Nowhere in Scripture is that confirmed, and I am not saying it does, but I wonder, I wonder. But what I rejoice in is that my name is written without a doubt in the Lamb's book of life, because I repented of my life one day, my sinful world, pleasure enjoying life, and I confessed my sins and I repented and I received Jesus Christ by faith as the risen son of God and asked him to come into my heart and into my life and be Lord of my life. And I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that my name is written in the Lamb's book of life. Is yours written there today? Is it written down? Can you say assuredly? Yes, jeff, I know, I know that my name is written there.

Speaker 1:

I know that there is a point in my life that not that you had an emotional experience and you said a sinner's prayer. Then your life never changed. No, that's what I'm not. I'm not talking about. I'm talking about true repentance. True repentance, confessing and believing with your heart that Jesus Christ is the risen Son of God and truly accepting him, being truly born from above, born into the family of God.

Speaker 1:

That's what I'm talking about, where you were transformed. All the old passed away. You didn't just say a prayer, a simple prayer, and go out and continue living like you were. No, there was a transformation that happened in your heart. The Holy Spirit came in and all of your want-tos changed all of a sudden. It wasn't't something you did, it was a miraculous thing that happened in your heart. When you just put down, you turned away from the world and its pleasures and you said no and something in your heart said no, you're not going to do that anymore.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to show you how to walk with christ. I'm going to show you how to walk with Christ. I'm going to show you how to walk with me as I reside in your heart and in your life. I'm going to show you each day, by the word of God, how to be more conformed to the image of his dear son. That's the transformation I'm talking about. That's how your name is written in the Lamb's book of life.

Speaker 1:

That's how you know when you read verse 27 and it says and there shall in no way, no wise, no how any way possible, enter into it anything that defileth neither whatsoever, worketh abomination or maketh a lie. That word abomination translates into evil. If you have a life and you're claiming to be born again and you're living in the world and you're living according to the pleasures of this world and the things of this world are being put before you day in and day out and you're finding pleasure and you're suited for that life, you might need to check up, because I honestly believe, according to scripture, you're not truly born again, because when you're born again and you repent and you receive Christ, that transformation takes place. I can't explain it. It is something that the Lord does in every heart when a person is truly born again.

Speaker 1:

But Paul says we become a new creature. Old things are passed away. Behold, everything becomes new, and that newness of the Spirit is the only way we can enter into this new Jerusalem, this holy city, and the holiness and the righteousness is not ours, it is the righteousness, the cloak of holiness and righteousness of Christ that we have put on by receiving him as our Lord and Savior. That is the most remarkable thing that he would have us to take away from chapter 21 today that our names are written in the Lamb's book of life. That is something truly All of this don't get me wrong it's all to be rejoiced over, because our eternal home is something else and it is going to be something to behold. But rejoice, as Christ said, don't rejoice in those things, as he told his disciples that the spirits are subject unto you, but rather that your names are written down in heaven. That's where he would have us place our hearts' focus on today, because without our names being written there, we will in no way know how no, no way possible enter into the city. It is the most important thing that we can do today is to ensure that our name is written in the lamb's book of life.

Speaker 1:

With that said, and in closing, I ask you are you sure that your name's written there in the Lamb's Book of Life? Are you sure? Are you sure? Can you say for positive yes, jeff, I know, I know my name's written there. If you're not sure, I would tell you today and I invite you, make sure. And the only way you can do that is through repentance. And I'm speaking to all lost sinners today, those who are in the world enjoying the pleasures of this world, those that are enjoying the fleeting pleasures of this world. They, you're sitting on that vantage point that satan would have you to look from, and you're looking at all the glitz and the glamour and all the things that this world has to offer and you're caught up in that.

Speaker 1:

I'm asking you today, if you're there, to repent, repent of that, turn from that, change your mind, change your heart, turn from that and ask Christ, confessing back to him, and ask Christ to enter into your heart. Receive him today as the risen Son of God. That's what it means to believe. You're believing in his sacrifice on Calvary's cross. You're believing in his blood that washes away all of your sin and you're believing, by placing your faith in him, that your name will be written in the Lamb's Book of Life and that transformation will take place. You will be born from above. The Holy Spirit will come in and he will change you from the inside out.

Speaker 1:

It's not about an outside to an inward change. It's about an inward change that changes the outside. It changes the holy spirit, changes your want to. You will no longer want to enjoy those things. No, you'll be set upon this high and great mountain looking at you to your eternal home, and you will say, yes, that's one day. I'm going to be there with my lord and my savior and with my god. I'm going to be there because my name's written in the lamb's book of life, rejoicing that today, and I will rejoice with you and every true born again believer listening with us.

Speaker 1:

We will rejoicing not only that, but once you are saved and you come to repentance, there is great rejoicing that will take place in heaven over your soul that has come to repentance, every soul that comes to repentance. There's rejoicing in heaven. Did you know that? Won't you set us on the path of rejoicing over becoming a son and daughter of the most high God by receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Speaker 1:

Today, I invite you to do so before it's eternally too late. If you hear the Holy Spirit drawing you, calling you, that's Christ saying come. I died, I shed my blood that you could be saved. Come to me, come by way of my cross and receive me as your Lord and Savior and turn from all that in the world and you will be saved. He said whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. That is a guarantee of God's word. Let us all rejoice in those who will give their hearts and life to the Lord today. Thank you all so much for joining me. I look so forward to the next time that we can share in a word from the word of God God bless.
