Hello and welcome to this another edition of Words from the Word of God. Thank you all so much for joining us as we look back and we join back together, and I'm so excited to be back again with you today that we may share words from the Word of God. We look back into the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 1. So far as we have looked through the eyes of Scripture in Matthew, chapter 1, we have seen God's Word revealed Jesus Christ to us. The Word of God has revealed him as number one, the promised king, the promised Messiah. Number two, emmanuel, god with us, speaking of the incarnation, the miracle of God himself becoming flesh and dwelling among us in the person of Jesus Christ. But today, and that reveals his person, today we will look into his mission, his purpose. We have seen his person person. Today we will see his purpose. As we look into the eyes of scripture. Once again, in verses 16, the latter part in verse 21 and we look into the eyes of scripture, we see the provider of salvation, jesus, our, our eternal Savior. You know, it is remarkable. It is so remarkable that we have had these things revealed to us and we have these things to look into, you know, as we see them written on the pages of Scripture. You know, we see the promised King, the promised Messiah, jesus Christ, the eternal sovereign. How remarkable it is to know the fulfillment of prophecy. How remarkable it is to know that he fulfilled every promise that God had ever made in the Old Testament throughout human history, that one day our Messiah, our eternal king, would come. And now we see today that that promise day, our Messiah, our eternal King, would come. And now we see today that that promise of our eternal Savior has come true as well. And, as we said, and we look at the prophecies fulfilled, how much hope and joy we can have in knowing that we can trust in every word, every promise, every jot or tittle, as Jesus would call it. He said heaven and earth shall pass away, but his word shall not pass away, but every jot and tittle shall be fulfilled. He said think not, don't think that I've come to destroy the law and the prophets. Rather, yet I've come to fulfill. And he said heaven and earth shall pass away, but every word, every jot, every tittle, every little thing of the word of God shall be fulfilled. And he is that fulfillment. He is that fulfillment. He is the only one, the only one that could provide salvation for us. And it is so important that we see that, it is so important, as true born again believers, that our hearts are once again stirred to know that fact that Jesus came for one purpose and one purpose only, and that was to save man from their sins.
Speaker 1:Read with me, if you will, the latter part of verse 16 of Matthew, chapter 1, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. Then look with me, if you will, in verse 21,. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins. Folks, as we look through, and I want to point back to and we're not going to read it, but I want to point back because and I don't want to get ahead of myself because we're going to look into this tomorrow, but or, excuse me, and I keep saying tomorrow, but in the next broadcast I pray that the Lord will give us the grace to join back together tomorrow, that we can look into this together again. But we will look into the people of grace tomorrow.
Speaker 1:But as we look back at verses 1 through 17, and we see all the sin of the individuals there, how the kings of Judah that are mentioned there in Jesus' genealogy. They can be put into one of three categories Some were bad, some were considered good and some kings were considered good and bad. But they all had flaws. They all had sins. David an adulterer and a murderer. They all had sins. David an adulterer and a murderer. Tamar it was a deceiver. She deceived Judah. Judah lied to her about having his third son to carry on that lineage. She had to deceive him by pretending to be a prostitute. And then you look at Rahab. Rahab was a Canaanite prostitute, yet she is named in the genealogy of Jesus Christ.
Speaker 1:What I'm trying to point out here is that salvation is to all people. There is no one rejected, and that's the remarkable thing about it. That is the most remarkable thing to me that he would look at me one day, look down to me and call out to me one day through the preaching of his gospel, and he would see that I was worth saving. There was nothing in me that was lovable. I was greatly flawed and a great sinner.
Speaker 1:I wasted many years of my adult life living in this world, running in this world, thinking that all that the world had to offer could fill the void in my heart all along, being disappointed and always looking for the next best thing, never finding something to satisfy me in this world. It was not until I heard the gospel of Jesus Christ the latter part of 2004, and I received him by faith. I repented and I received him by faith, and my heart and my life were transformed and I haven't been the same since, and that void that I saw in the world to be filled for so long in the world was completely filled in the moment, the very moment that I received my eternal Savior as my Lord and Savior, jesus Christ. The word of God says and she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins. As we look at all the flawed individuals who are the people of Jesus, his people it says his people Many will say well, that's speaking of the Jews.
Speaker 1:Yes, but if you think about it, he said John in his gospel said he came into his own and his own received him not. If you look through the prophecy of the Old Testament, it also said that he would come into the Gentiles as well, and that's fulfilled. As we go on, we'll see that if we go on through the gospel of Matthew, chapter four, we'll see that come to pass. But he came to us non-Jews. In Christ there's neither Jew nor Gentile. There's neither bond nor free, nor male nor female. We are all one in Christ. We are all his people. People, no matter what we've done, no matter what our past is. We can be his people.
Speaker 1:But we must be willing to turn loose of the things of the world through repentance and turn from those things, have a change of mind that leads to a change of heart, and completely return from that and turn to him by placing all of our faith in Christ, turning to God and becoming born again, born from above, saved from our sins, born into the family of God, born of the Spirit, born into the family of God as a son and daughter of the Most High God. There's no greater, no, nothing greater in this world, nothing greater in anything that you could ever do, no accomplishment that you could ever do in your life and find rest in, than to receive Christ, nothing greater than to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. You know the profound significance salvation through Jesus Christ. The name Jesus is derived from the Hebrew name Yahshua. It means the Lord saves. His very name signifies his very name. Jesus signifies his mission on earth to save us from our sin by his life, death and resurrection. Jesus offers all of us and you mark it down. Mark it down it does not matter where you're at right now, sinner friend, it does not matter what you've done, it does not matter what kind of sexual immorality you're involved in, what kind of life you're living With, all of the sexual immorality in our society today. You are not too far away for him to save. He is offering you today, sinner friend, eternal salvation through his name, through faith in his name.
Speaker 1:The profound significance of the cross of Calvary. Matthew, chapter 1, verse 16, as we looked at, let's read it again. It says whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. Let's read verse 21 again. Let's look at that again. It says and she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins, their sins, folks.
Speaker 1:As we look at this, this emphasizes Jesus' mission as foretold and fulfilled. We talked about that word fulfilled in a great deal. Not only does it connect the Old Testament and New Testament, not only does it give us faith and hope in every promise of God's word because of the fulfilled prophecies in Christ, the fulfilled prophecies from the Old Testament, going all the way back, remember, to Genesis 3.15, where the Lord said God said, as he put the curse upon Satan, that the woman's seed would crush his head and he would bruise the woman's seed, he would bruise his heel, he bruised him greatly on Calvary's cross. But Christ's crucifixion on the cross was the ultimate and do not mistake this, it is the ultimate act of love and redemption. This act wasn't and the blessed thing of this is it wasn't an afterthought, but was God's redemptive plan from eternity past.
Speaker 1:Revelation, chapter 13, verse 8, the latter part of that verse affirms this. It says that Jesus, speaking of Jesus Christ, is the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. This underscores the eternal scope of God's salvation plan through Jesus and highlights his ultimate love for all humanity. And when you talk about love, you can't mistake. You can't leave out John 3.16. And I know we're not in the Gospel of John yet, but folks listen, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. I love the next portion of this that, whosoever remember, we talked about in the first part of this message, the brokenness of people, the sinfulness of people in his lineage. Lets us know that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. That's the promise of John, chapter 3, verse 16.
Speaker 1:The crucifixion underscores and, being the lamb slain from the foundation of the world, underscores the eternal scope of God's salvation plan. We were in his heart in eternity past. Christ, speaking of the anointed one or the chosen one, speaks greatly to that, because he was anointed in eternity past. It wasn't some quick afterthought of God to send his son for humanity. No, this was born in his heart, in love, in eternity past, in his son that he would come and die on Calvary's cross.
Speaker 1:And then you must think of when it says the title Christ. It says right there in verse 16, jesus, who is called Christ, anointed one, messiah. This title signifies Jesus' divine appointment. He is the anointed king, he is the anointed, promised Messiah, is the anointed, promised Messiah and he is the anointed Savior, fulfilling all Old Testament prophecy about his coming, the Messiah who would come to redeem his people. Recognizing Jesus as the Christ affirms his divine authority and mission to bring salvation to all. And this is how the word of God presents him to us in a mighty, mighty way and a remarkable way.
Speaker 1:I draw your attention and turn over with me, if you will to Philippians, chapter two. Right quick. I want to draw your attention to something right quick. It's something the apostle Paul wrote in his epistle to the Philippians, there in chapter 2. I want to begin reading in verse 5. He says let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being and listen closely who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but made himself of no reputation and took upon himself the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men and being found in the fashion as a man. He humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Speaker 1:You speak about love, the love that was in Christ's heart for you and I. I've often heard people say, while he was on the cross, I was on his mind. No, no, no, yes, we were on his mind because he said Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. He was speaking about all of mankind, but listen, listen closely. We were in his heart, in love, in eternity past, because the title Christ, christos, the anointed one, the Messiah title. Christ Christos, the anointed one, the Messiah, the chosen one. He came. He said many times, as we will see as we go through the gospel I have come to do the will of my Father. He came in humility and he came in obedience, and he would tell us that he didn't come to be served, but to serve many and to give his life a ransom for many. He came to serve and to give his life a ransom for many Folks. That's a blessing.
Speaker 1:How much love would it take for you to give up your child to save someone else's life? I don't have children. I've never been blessed with children life. I don't have children. I've never been blessed with children, teresa, and I don't have children. We've never been blessed that way. But I speak to parents If you're out there and you're lost and you have children, how much love would it take in your heart to give your only child to someone who would not appreciate it to save their life? That's what God did for us in sending his son and Jesus, being obedient, being obedient, and he is God. And God came.
Speaker 1:We talked about his incarnation. How God, the miracle of God becoming flesh in the person of Christ, being all God and all man, all at the same time. He had to become man so he could die on the cross, because as God he could not die. He humbled himself, paul says he humbled himself and became obedient. He came in humility and he came in obedience, and that love was set forth in his heart in eternity past, when he was anointed to do so, to come and to die on calvary's cross.
Speaker 1:Matthew's gospel not only presents jesus as the promised messiah, but also sets the foundation for the revelation of Jesus' mission and teaching. As we look out through the rest of the New Testament Not only in Matthew, mark, luke and John, but also in the rest of the New Testament we see that Matthew's gospel beautifully sets the stage, as it is placed as the first book of the New Testament. For example, in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew, chapter 5 through chapter 7, jesus outlines the principles of the kingdom of heaven and his role as the fulfillment of the law and prophets. He said think not, don't think this, that I've come to destroy the law and the prophets. I have not come to destroy, I have come to fulfill. And through his perfect, sinless life, his death, burial, resurrection and his resurrection, he fulfilled, all of the law and the prophets, the sacrificial system, the priesthood, all of it. None of it passed away until it was fulfilled. And it will not pass away because it's eternal. What Christ has done for us is eternal.
Speaker 1:In Matthew 16, verses 16 and 17, peter's confession of Jesus as the Christ. And these are his exact words the Christ. When Jesus said, whom do you think I am, who do you say I am? Peter said you are the Christ, the son of the living God. This affirms his divine identity and mission again, a revelation that is further expounded upon in the rest of the New Testament, beautifully so so far in Matthew's Gospel, chapter 1,. Who is Jesus? According to Matthew's Gospel, Jesus is the promised king and Messiah. Matthew's genealogy and fulfillment of prophecies establishes Jesus' rightful place as the promised king and Messiah.
Speaker 1:Emmanuel, god with us. Jesus' incarnation brought God into our midst, showing his desire to be intimately involved in our life, showing his desire to have a relationship once again with us, that relationship that was destroyed by the rebellion of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden that brought sin and death into the world. Jesus came God in the flesh, god with us, to destroy what was destroyed, destroy the work of Satan that destroyed the work of God in the Garden of Eden. He came to destroy the works of Satan, and we will see this as we go along. Not only that, we see him today as the provider of salvation Matthew 1.21,. I'll read it again and she shall bring forth the Son, and thou shall call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sin. Who is his people? Who can be saved? Whosoever, whosoever will Let him come, whosoever will believe on his name shall not perish but have everlasting life. That Matthew, chapter 1, verse 21, highlights Jesus' name and we'll cover this again and mission, and they're intrinsically linked to his role as our Savior. His sacrifice on the cross provided the means for our salvation. Every drop of his precious blood was for the washing away of our sins.
Speaker 1:Peter would tell us if you will turn to 1 Peter, 1 Peter. I want to read this. The Lord laid this on my heart. We must look at this. Pick up reading with me in verse 18, 1 Peter, chapter 1.
Speaker 1:For as much as you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold from your vain conversation, your vain way of living received by tradition from your father speaking to the Jewish people, the Jewish believers scattered abroad, talking about the Jewish religiosity, the religious system, the Jewish traditions, all of that self-righteousness that was established in those 400 silent years before the coming of Christ. He says you're not redeemed with those things, but you're redeemed with what. You're redeemed with what the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, who, verily, was foreordained before the foundation of the world but was manifest in these last times for you, the provider of salvation, jesus Christ, our eternal Savior. Folks, as we reflect on Jesus as our eternal Savior and the profound impact of his sacrifice and mission, we see the ultimate act of love and salvation and redemption His name alone. Remember Jesus. Remember this if you don't remember anything else. Jesus, the Lord saves, signifies the core of his purpose to save his people from their sin. This divine mission extends an offer of eternal salvation to all who will believe, repent and have faith in him.
Speaker 1:Sinner friends, the message of Jesus is a message of hope, love, mercy, grace and forgiveness. He is the provider of salvation, our eternal Savior, who came to save us from our sins. It does not matter who you are, it does not matter where you're at, it does not matter what you've done. God's redemptive plan in Christ was established before the foundation of the world in Christ, and it is revealed in Christ. His sacrifice on the cross is the ultimate expression of God's perfect love for you.
Speaker 1:Today, sinner friend, you're out in the world. Deception is running rampant in our world. It is hard to find love in the hearts of many. Jesus said when iniquity abounds, the love of many will grow cold. Well, iniquity is abounding and the love of many has grown cold. But there is one love. There is one love that you cannot deny, yet one love that you cannot say has grown cold, and that is God's love, his perfect love in Christ and Christ's perfect love on Calvary's cross for you, the greatest expression of love that has ever happened in the history of humanity.
Speaker 1:If you are feeling lost and burdened by sin or in need of hope, you're hopeless. I tell you there's hope. If you're helpless, I tell you there's help, and his name is Jesus. He's calling to you right now, sinner friend. He offers you forgiveness, a new life and eternal salvation. Will you not embrace his love today, repent of your sins and have faith in him, accept his invitation to be part of his family and experience the transforming power of God's grace, the transforming power of God's grace, power of God's grace For those who are already believers. May this message speak to our hearts today to stir us up inside and set us on fire, to bring about a fire with that ember that's been simmering in our hearts, to bring a fire in our hearts to share the message of Jesus' eternal love and sacrifice. May it stir our hearts to share his gospel with others who do not know him as Lord and Savior. Let us be encouraged and uplifted to continue spreading the good news of our eternal Savior.
Speaker 1:Sinner friend, I invite you again if you don't know Christ as your Lord and Savior, please accept him today. Don't ignore the Holy Spirit's drawing you to the cross today. Don't ignore the call of the Holy Spirit, the drawing power of the Holy Spirit drawing you to the saving knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Today Jesus came to bring salvation to you. Sinner friend, I don't know you, I don't know where you're at in this world, in this country of the United States or in this world, I don't know. But Jesus knows and he knows your heart and he knows you're in need of salvation and that voice that you're calling out to you is him saying I'm standing at the door and knock, I'm knocking, I'm knocking and I'm knocking and I'll keep knocking until you tell me to go away. Don't tell them to go away. They accept him by faith. They repent, turn from the world, change your mind, change your heart, turn from that, turn to God by placing your faith in Christ, the only way of salvation.
Speaker 1:Today, he said, I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by me. He is the only way. You can't work for it, you can't earn it. It is a free gift, the word of God tells us. For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works. Lest any man should boast, won't you accept the greatest gift that you could ever receive in your lifetime? And it's an eternal gift, and that is salvation through none other than Jesus Christ, the provider of salvation, our eternal Savior. Thank you so much for joining me today, and I look forward to the next time that we can share in a word from the Word of God. God bless you all.
