Psalm 135
1 Praise the Lord.[a]
Praise the name of the Lord;
praise him, you servants of the Lord,
2 you who minister in the house of the Lord,
in the courts of the house of our God.
- Praise the Lord
o This chapter opens with a giant bold statement
o This is what we should do!
- Praise him, you servants of the Lord
o Especially those who are servants of the Lord
o Those serving Him in ministry
o Loving the Lord God will all your heart, mind & strength
o Loving others as yourself
- You who minister in the house of the Lord
o To minister means to serve
o You serve the people
o You love on the people
o You pray for the people
o You help the people
o You encourage the people
o You praise with the people
o You cry, laugh & celebrate with the people
- In the courts of the house of our God
o The courts are just outside the sanctuary
o They are the places of public gathering
o Welcoming people and inviting them in
o Fellowshipping with one another
3 Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;
sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant.
- For the Lord is Good!
- This is the reason we should praise Him !!!
- Sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant
o Well pleasing to God
4 For the Lord has chosen Jacob to be his own,
Israel to be his treasured possession.
- Notice the Lord did the choosing.
- Jacob (He who wrestles); Israel (He who turns the head of God)
- Notice God sees His chosen people as “treasured” (super valuable)
- Notice God sees His chosen people as “His possession.”
o Something valuable that He owns
o You are not your own you were bought with a price!
5 I know that the Lord is great,
that our Lord is greater than all gods.
6 The Lord does whatever pleases him,
in the heavens and on the earth,
in the seas and all their depths.
- I know the Lord is great (do you know that! are you certain of this fact!)
- that our Lord is greater than all gods (notice its little g when compared)
o Nothing can compare to the Lord our God!
- the Lord does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth
o notice the Lord does whatever pleases himself
§ he answers to no one (This shows that there is no one above him and that he is the highest position possible)
o this is true in the heavens above and on the earth below
