Hebrews 9 - The Old and the New
Hebrews 9 - The Old and the New
9 Now even the first covenant had regulations of divine worship and the earthly sanctuary. 2 For there was a tabernacle prepared, the outer one, in which were the lampstand and the table and the sacred bread; this is called the holy place. 3 Behind the second veil there was a tabernacle which is called the Holy of Holies, 4 having a golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden jar holding the manna, and Aaron’s rod which budded, and the tables of the covenant; 5 and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat; but of these things we cannot now speak in detail.
- Now even the first covenant had regulations of divine worship and the earthly sanctuary
o The first covenant is the law (the ten commandments)
o There were also regulations about how to worship God in the earthly sanctuary
o This tent was designed for service on earth (not in heaven)
§ It was 45’ long x 15’ wide and 15’ high divided into two rooms
§ Just FYI (45 is 3 x 15) 3 is the trinity; 15 is grace by multiplied (5 x 3)
§ Every dimension points to the triune God and Grace!
- For there was tabernacle prepared (a tabernacle was a tent; it was movable; temporary)
o The outer one, in which were
§ The lampstand
· The lampstand had middle stem and six branches
· Six is then number for man (this was the only light in the tabernacle)
§ And the table and the sacred bread
· The table was made of acacia wood covered with Gold
o The acacia wood may be symbol of the cross
· It was 3’ long x 1.5’ wide x “2’3” high
· 3 represents the trinity; 1.5” = 12” (twelves tribes) + 6” (man
· 2’ represents two witnesses; 3” represents the trnity)
· All the measurements point to God speaking to the 12 tribes of Israel followed by all mankind through Father, Son & Holy Ghost
· It held 12 loaves of showbread each representing God’s fellowship with the 12 tribes of Israel
§ This is called the holy place
o Behind the second veil there was tabernacle which is called the Holy of Holies
§ There was veil (a thick curtain 3’ thick made of woven wool)
§ It separated the outer space from the Holy of Holies
· The inside room was 15’ x 15’
· When you deduct the 15’ length from whole tent which was 45’ you are left with 30’ (Jesus was 30 years old when He began His ministry)
§ There was alter of incense just in front of the veil let led to the Holy of Holies (the inside room)
· It was also made of Acacia wood and was covered in Gold
· The wood may represent the cross and the Gold represents royalty
· The dimensions confirm the same story
o 1.5’ square (12” for the 12-tribes + 6” for mankind)
o 3’ high (12” for the 12 tribes x 3” for the Trinity”
