Romans 5 - Results of Justification
5 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
- Chapter 5 starts with “therefore”
o This looks back to Chapter 4 and we learned that Jesus was crucified for our transgressions and His resurrection was proof we have been justified (made just by His blood not by our works)
o By faith we have been saved by grace!
- As a result of what Jesus did
o We were justified by faith in Jesus Christ
o We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
o Through whom also we have obtained (past tense) our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand (our current position is standing in His grace)
§ God’s Riches at Christ’s Expense (GRACE)
o And we exult in hope of the glory of God
§ We are trusting that Jesus is now in the highest position of all
§ And that He will come and redeem us back to Himself
- And not only this
o But we exult in our tribulations.
o This literally means that we are joyous in our tribulations (what???)
- Knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance
o We learn to persevere as we wait on the lord
o Perseverance means “Steady persistence in adhering to a course of action, a belief, or a purpose; steadfastness.”
- And perseverance proven character
o You build character by going through difficult times
o You become a stronger woman or man until you have proven character
o The place at which God can see your faith is real and consistent no matter what.
- And proven character hope
o Will stand in the midst of your trials and testing
o Will God find real faith at your very core?
o If you have real character of faith, you will remain in Hope of what God will do!
o Hope is another name for faith but it implies an expectant heart that believes God will do that which you prayed things in! (praying in faith, expecting to see results)
- And hope does not disappoint
o Hope in anything other than Jesus Christ will disappoint you
o Faith in Christ Jesus will never disappoint you!
o Because the Love of God is poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us
§ The Love of God poured out!
§ This was the pouring out of Jesus blood on the cross
§ Notice that God gave the Holy Spirit who was given to us (a gift from God)
· He is living in you right now!
· Great is He that is in You than he that is in the world
