Romans Chapter 12 - Dedicated Service

12 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice,  acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

-        Therefore because what we just learned in Chapter 11:36

o   For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory [n]forever. Amen.

o   From Him (from Jesus) and through Him (He created it all) and to Him (his property)

o   It is said that Jesus is the atomic glue that holds the electrons in orbit around the neutron

-        Since He made it all and holds it all together, I urge you (it’s urgent; consider what I am about to say; it’s important) by the mercies of God (mercy is not getting what you deserve)

-        Present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God

o   What does this mean?

o   How do we do this?

o   What makes it acceptable to God or not?

-        Which is your spiritual service of worship (other translations say “reasonable service”

o   In other words It’s the least you can or should do…

-        And do not be conformed to this world (conformed; molded by; shaped in the likeness of)

-        But (in contrast, do this) be transformed by the renewing of your mind (renewing is the continual state of changing; continual refreshing)

-        focused on the Word not the Word (this is a conscious decision you make)

-        so that you may prove what the will of God is (we prove it by presenting our bodies a living sacrifice) put feet to faith and do good works with the love of Jesus Christ

-        that which is good and acceptable and perfect (this is Christ Alone)

3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

-        For through the grace given to me (grace is getting what you didn’t earn)

-        I say to everyone among you (that’s every person around you; do you say this too?)

-        Not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think (we need to be reminded)

-        But to think so as to have sound judgement (we see our own sin too; desperate for a Savior)

-        God has allotted to each a measure of faith (God allotted to each a measure; a specific amount of faith; your portion; your food; your sustenance; your oxygen)

-        If you have any faith, God gave it to you
