Hello, Cate here and welcome back to NEWS OF THE WORLD!
In World News…
Protests have broken out across California after ICE carried out raids on undocumented migrants, especially in Latino areas of LA. Things turned violent when federal agents used tear gas and rubber bullets. In response, Trump sent in 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines, claiming it was to stop “violent mobs.” Governor Gavin Newsom called it unconstitutional and is trying to block it in court. LA’s mayor said local officials had it under control before the military got involved. Trump blamed them for the unrest, while Newsom warned democracy is at risk. Some even say it’s a distraction from the Epstein files.
Business News
VivaTech 2025 opened in Paris with a real buzz. NVIDIA boss Jensen Huang gave a big keynote on how AI is evolving — from seeing and creating to actually doing things, like running robots. He said AI data centres are now “token factories” powering tools like ChatGPT, and he unveiled NVIDIA’s new Grace Blackwell chips to handle the demand. He also announced a big European expansion, teaming up with Mistral AI to build the first Industrial AI Cloud. Canada made a strong showing too, as VivaTech’s Country of the Year. And with President Macron involved, Europe’s message was clear: we want AI built our way.
Entertainment
Let’s be honest — many of us hate being alone. The second we feel bored, we grab our phones and start scrolling. But time alone isn’t a bad thing — it’s actually really important. When you switch off the noise — no social media, no constant updates — your mind finally gets a bit of space. That is when your real thoughts come through. It’s where ideas happen. It’s how you figure things out or find solutions. Being alone might feel strange at first, but it gets easier. Go for a walk without your phone. Just sit quietly. It’s not loneliness — it’s presence. We don’t always need entertainment – we can entertain ourselves.
Sport
If you saw the French Open final, you will know it was something special. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner battled for five and a half hours in the longest final the tournament has ever seen. Long rallies, stunning shots, nonstop energy — a real edge-of-your-seat match. Alcaraz came back from two sets down and saved championship points to win. The tennis was incredible. Even John McEnroe said these two could beat Federer, Nadal or Djokovic at their best. We are probably seeing the start of a brilliant new friendly rivalry. Next stop: Wimbledon!
Self-development
Let’s talk about a time management method that really works — it’s called Getting Things Done by David Allen, or GTD for short. It’s a real favourite in productivity circles, and for good reason. The main idea is simple: your brain isn’t built to hold all your to-dos. The more you try to remember everything, the more stressed you feel. So instead, you get it all out of your head — every little task, idea, or worry — and into a system you trust.
There are five steps: capture, clarify, organise, reflect, and engage.
· First, capture everything that’s on your mind — emails, errands, reminders.
· Then clarify what each thing is — is it something you need to do now, later, or not at all?
· Next, organise it into groups that are applicable to you — calendar, project list, actions, reference.
· Reflect regularly to stay on top of things — weekly reviews help.
· And finally, engage — do what makes sense based on your time, energy, and priorities in that moment.
It’s not about rigid schedules or filling your day. It’s about creating mental space. Once GTD clicks, you are less tired, more focused — and finally getting the right things done. It’s like giving your brain a holiday.
Well, that’s all from NEWS OF THE WORLD for now. I hope you give your brain a holiday today, and I’ll talk to you soon! Take care!
