Hello, Cate here and welcome back to NEWS OF THE WORLD!

The US president has said he might be open to future talks with Venezuela’s leader, Nicolás Maduro, even though tensions are rising because of a large US military presence in the region. The US plans to label a group called the Cartel de los Soles — which it says is controlled by Maduro — as a terrorist organisation. Venezuela denies this and says the US is trying to remove Maduro from power.

At the same time, a US anti-drug mission at sea has killed more than 80 people, although the US has not shown evidence that they were traffickers. A US aircraft carrier and other ships are now in the Caribbean for this operation.

Business News

The US has ended its emergency order to cut flights, because enough air traffic controllers are now back at work. During the long government shutdown, controllers had to work without pay, and many were absent or exhausted. This caused big safety worries, so the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told airlines on 7th November to cut take-offs by up to 10%. Thousands of flights were cancelled or delayed.

Now the shutdown is over, and staffing levels have improved, just in time for the busy Thanksgiving travel period. The government says normal flying can restart, and controllers will receive their missing pay. The FAA is also checking if any airlines ignored the flight-cut rules.

In 2022, the French baguette became part of UNESCO’s world heritage list. President Macron called it “250 grams of magic.” But French people eat much less bread now — from about 700 grams a day after World War II to only 100 grams today – less than half a baguette. Many young people eat out or buy supermarket bread instead.

New “neo-bakeries” make organic sourdough bread that stays fresh longer and creates less waste. Some don’t even sell baguettes anymore, which surprises many customers.

Still, bakers say the baguette will never die — it’s changing with modern life, but it will always be a part of French culture.

David Beckham has been knighted by King Charles for his work in football and for Britain. The ceremony took place at Windsor Castle, with his wife Victoria and his parents watching. Beckham said he was very proud and that he loves his country and the royal family.

Victoria designed his suit, inspired by King Charles’ early style.

Beckham played 115 games for England, was captain for six years, and won trophies with top clubs around the world. He also helps charities like UNICEF and supports the King’s Foundation.

His story shows pride, hard work, and a true love for his country.

Self-development

Christmas is coming, and life is getting busy. We often try to do many things at once — work, shopping, messages, and family plans. But multitasking doesn’t really work. Our brains can only focus well on one thing at a time. When we switch too much, we make more mistakes and feel more stressed.

Monotasking means doing one task, finishing it, then moving to the next. It helps you work faster, stay calm, and enjoy what you’re doing. For example, write your emails without checking your phone, or cook dinner without thinking about work.

As the holidays get closer, try to focus on one thing at a time. Set a timer for 25 minutes, then take a short break. You’ll feel more peaceful — and you might even get more done.

Well, that’s all from NEWS OF THE WORLD for now. I hope you take one step at a time today, and I’ll talk to you soon! Take care!
