In World News…

A murder case in Southampton has become a national story in the UK, not only because of the tragic death of 18-year-old white student Henry Nowak, but because of serious questions about how police responded in the moments after the attack.

Bodycam footage released this week shows Henry being handcuffed after his attacker falsely claimed he had been the victim of a racist assault. In the footage, Henry repeatedly tells officers that he cannot breathe and says he has been stabbed. The images have shocked many people and prompted criticism from across the political spectrum.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the footage as "harrowing" and said there are serious questions for police to answer. An independent investigation is now examining whether accusations of racism influenced officers' decisions at the scene.

The case has also sparked a wider debate about policing, public trust and whether efforts to address discrimination can sometimes create unintended consequences.

For Henry's family, however, the focus remains simple: accountability, transparency and ensuring that lessons are learned so that no other family experiences a similar tragedy.

Spain’s tourism industry is heading toward another record-breaking year, with visitor numbers expected to reach an astonishing 100 million. For businesses, that sounds like great news. But it also highlights an important challenge: how do you manage success?

Tourism makes up around 13% of Spain’s economy and has helped drive stronger growth than many other European countries. Recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have also encouraged more travellers to choose Spain over destinations such as Turkey, Egypt and Dubai.

Yet the boom is creating growing tensions at home. In cities including Barcelona and Valencia, residents are increasingly concerned about overcrowding, rising rents and the impact of short-term holiday accommodation on local communities.

For business leaders, this is a classic growth dilemma. Expansion brings opportunity, but if growth is not managed carefully, it can create unintended consequences.

Spain’s tourism sector now faces a balancing act: continuing to attract visitors while maintaining the quality of life for local residents.

The lesson is one that applies far beyond tourism. Sustainable success is not just about getting bigger. It is about ensuring growth benefits everyone involved.

The final chapter in the legal fallout surrounding the death of Friends star Matthew Perry has now come to a close.

This week, Perry’s former live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, was sentenced to three years and five months in prison for his role in supplying ketamine to the actor before his death in 2023.

Prosecutors said Iwamasa became more than an assistant. He acted as a messenger, organiser and, at times, the person administering the drug. The court heard that he injected Perry multiple times a day during the actor’s final weeks and gave him the fatal dose on the day he died.

The judge described his actions as reckless, noting that he had witnessed Perry’s long struggle with addiction and should have recognised the risks.

The case has highlighted broader concerns about addiction, responsibility and the people who surround those facing substance dependency.

For many fans, the story remains especially sad because Perry had been open about his efforts to overcome addiction and help others facing similar battles.

The Monaco Grand Prix delivered plenty of drama, but one name stood above the chaos: Kimi Antonelli.

The 19-year-old Italian claimed his fifth consecutive victory with a commanding performance that strengthened his grip on the Formula One championship. Despite two safety cars, a red flag, and a chaotic finish, Antonelli remained calm and in control throughout the race.

Starting from pole position, he held off Lewis Hamilton at both race starts and gradually built a comfortable lead. By the time the race was interrupted, Antonelli had shown impressive pace and maturity beyond his years.

The race also brought disappointment for George Russell, whose title hopes took a major hit after a penalty dropped him out of the points. Meanwhile, home favourite Charles Leclerc crashed out in front of his own fans.

As the season continues, Antonelli now holds a significant championship advantage. With sixteen races still to come, nothing is guaranteed, but Monaco may be remembered as the race that confirmed a new star has truly arrived.

Self-development

Last time we talked about the importance of having a purpose. But knowing that purpose matters and actually finding it are two different things.

Many people think purpose arrives in a flash of inspiration, but more often it emerges through exploration. A good place to start is by asking three simple questions: What gives me energy? What am I naturally drawn to? And what problems do I care about solving?

Look back at moments when you felt most alive, engaged, or fulfilled. There may be patterns. Perhaps you enjoy helping others, creating things, learning, teaching, organising, or connecting people. Purpose often leaves clues in what consistently captures our attention.

Another useful exercise is to imagine yourself ten years from now. What would make you feel proud of how you've spent your time? The answer may reveal values that can guide your decisions today.

Once you have a sense of purpose, even a small one, use it as a compass. When opportunities arise, ask: Does this move me closer to or further away from what matters most to me?

Purpose doesn't make life easier, but it does make challenges more meaningful. Research consistently shows that people with a strong sense of purpose experience greater resilience, motivation, and wellbeing.

You don't need to find your life's purpose overnight. Start by following your curiosity, paying attention to what matters, and taking one small step in that direction.

Well, that’s all from NEWS OF THE WORLD for now. I hope you follow your compass today, and I’ll talk to you soon! Take care!
