The famous Bayeux Tapestry has returned to the UK for the first time in almost 1,000 years, ahead of a major exhibition at the British Museum this September.
The 70-metre-long embroidered artwork tells the dramatic story of the Battle of Hastings in 1066, when William the Conqueror defeated King Harold and changed England forever. It isn't actually a tapestry at all, but a remarkable piece of embroidery, created by people who lived close to the events it describes.
Because of its age and importance, transporting it was an incredible operation. It travelled from France in a specially designed, climate-controlled crate with shock absorbers, accompanied by police to ensure it arrived safely.
The loan has been described as a symbol of friendship between France and the UK, although some experts in France worried that moving such a fragile masterpiece was too risky.
More than 100,000 tickets were sold on the first day they became available, showing just how excited people are. Nearly a thousand years after it was made, this extraordinary work of art is still bringing history vividly to life.
Business News
After more than a century, a historic change is coming to Gibraltar. The border fence between Gibraltar and Spain is set to be removed, allowing much easier movement between the two territories as part of a post-Brexit agreement between the UK and the European Union.
Every day, around 15,000 workers cross the border, often spending long periods in queues. The new arrangements are expected to make commuting much quicker and strengthen economic ties between Gibraltar and neighbouring Spanish towns.
The agreement also brings Gibraltar into the EU customs and Schengen travel systems, meaning goods and travellers will follow new rules. While businesses welcome the easier movement of people, some are concerned about extra paperwork and new taxes on goods.
For many local residents, however, the biggest benefit is simply bringing communities closer together. The border has been part of daily life for generations and has often symbolised political disagreements between Britain and Spain.
Now, many hope this marks the beginning of a new chapter — one where cooperation replaces division, helping both economies grow and making everyday life easier for thousands of people.
Entertainment
This week's entertainment news comes with a twist. Instead of talking about stars or activities keeping us awake, we're talking about the weather! If the heatwave has been the biggest villain in your bedtime story, these tips could help.
First, try to stick to your normal bedtime routine, even if it's tempting to stay up later. Keep your bedroom as cool as possible by closing curtains during the day and opening windows when the air cools in the evening.
Light cotton sheets and loose cotton or linen pyjamas can help your body stay comfortable. A fan can make a big difference, and if you don't have one, try cooling your feet with chilled socks or an ice-filled hot water bottle.
Stay hydrated during the day, but don't drink too much just before bed. It's also best to avoid too much caffeine or alcohol, both of which can disturb sleep.
And if you can't sleep? Put your phone away, read a book instead. And next year, install air conditioning!

And now to Wimbledon and Sinner the winner! Italy's Jannik Sinner has successfully defended his Wimbledon title, showing once again why he is the world's number one tennis player.
The final wasn't straightforward. After losing the opening set to Germany's Alexander Zverev, Sinner fought back with incredible determination, winning in four sets to claim his fifth Grand Slam title.
One point summed up the match perfectly. Sinner slipped and fell during a rally, scrambled back to his feet, won the point and eventually broke Zverev's serve for the first time. Moments later, he was back on the ground again—this time celebrating victory.
What makes Sinner so impressive isn't just his talent but his resilience. Only weeks earlier he had suffered a painful defeat at the French Open, yet instead of dwelling on it, he used it as motivation to improve.
His coach says setbacks make him stronger, and this latest triumph certainly supports that idea. At just 24 years old, Sinner continues to dominate men's tennis, proving that champions aren't defined by setbacks, but by how they respond to them.
Self-development
As this is our last podcast before the summer holidays, it's the perfect time to think about something psychologists call the "fresh start effect." We often believe we need New Year's Day to make positive changes, but research shows any meaningful moment can give us a fresh beginning – including the summer break.
Rather than waiting until September or January, use these next few weeks to reflect on the person you want to become. Choose just one or two realistic goals instead of trying to change everything at once.
The secret isn't relying on motivation. Motivation comes and goes. Instead, build small daily habits that become automatic. A ten-minute walk, reading ten pages of a book, practising a language for five minutes or putting your phone away before bed can all create lasting change.
Another important tip is to make your goals enjoyable. If you want to exercise, do it with a friend or while listening to your favourite podcast. When we enjoy the journey, we're much more likely to continue.
Finally, don't be discouraged if your motivation fades halfway through. That's completely normal. Focus on today's small step rather than the final destination.
So enjoy your summer, recharge, and remember: this holiday could be the beginning of a healthier, happier and more successful version of you.
Well, that’s all from NEWS OF THE WORLD for now. I hope you make positive changes this summer, and I’ll talk to you soon! Take care!
