Hello, Cate here and welcome back to NEWS OF THE WORLD!
In World News…
A very special piece of history has arrived in the UK. The Bayeux Tapestry is there for the first time in nearly 1,000 years and will go on display at the British Museum.
The 70-metre embroidery tells the story of the Battle of Hastings in 1066, when William the Conqueror defeated King Harold and changed English history.
The journey from France was carefully planned. The tapestry travelled in a special temperature-controlled crate with police protection because it is so old and fragile.
Many people are excited to see it, with thousands of tickets already sold. It's a rare chance to see one of the world's most famous historical treasures.
Business News
A historic change is coming to Gibraltar as the border with Spain is due to become much easier to cross.
Thousands of people travel between Spain and Gibraltar every day for work, but long queues have often caused delays. The new agreement between the UK and the European Union aims to make travel faster and improve business on both sides.
There will still be new customs and tax rules, so some businesses are preparing for extra paperwork.
For many people who live and work there, though, the biggest change is that the border will no longer separate communities as it has done for more than 100 years.
Entertainment
Something a bit different this week. The hot weather has made it difficult for many people to sleep, but a few simple ideas can help.
Try to keep your usual bedtime routine and make your bedroom as cool as possible by closing curtains during the day and opening windows at night.
Use light cotton sheets and wear loose cotton or linen clothes. A fan is useful, or you can cool your feet with chilled socks.
Drink plenty of water during the day. Avoid lots of coffee, fizzy drinks and alcohol in the evening.
If you can't sleep, don't scroll on your phone. Read a book instead. And next year, install air conditioning!
Sport
Sinner was certainly the winner at this year's Wimbledon. Italy's Jannik Sinner came back after losing the first set to beat Alexander Zverev and successfully defend his title.
One memorable moment saw Sinner fall over during a rally, get straight back up and win the point. Later, he fell to the ground again—but this time to celebrate becoming Wimbledon champion.
His victory is another example of his strong mentality. After a disappointing defeat at the French Open, he returned even stronger.
At just 24 years old, Sinner has shown that resilience and determination are just as important as talent in becoming a champion.
Self-development
As this is our last podcast before the summer holidays, why not use the break as a fresh start? Psychologists say we don't have to wait until New Year to make positive changes. A holiday, birthday or even a Monday can be the perfect time to begin.
Choose one small goal instead of lots of big ones. Build a simple daily habit, like walking for ten minutes, reading every evening or spending less time on your phone.
Try to make your new habit enjoyable. Exercise with a friend or listen to music or a podcast while you do it.
And if your motivation disappears after a few weeks, don't worry. That's normal. Success comes from repeating small actions, not from being perfect.
Have a wonderful summer, and perhaps use it to create the fresh start you've been waiting for.
Well, that’s all from NEWS OF THE WORLD for now. I hope you make positive changes this summer, and I’ll talk to you soon! Take care!
