Speaker 1:

Hello everyone, it's Victoria here and welcome to another episode of my Entrepreneur Diary. So we are into February. Where did January go? It just seemed to go super quick. I did hear a lot about January being a free trial month and that a lot of people were starting their new year on February 1st. And, I must admit, once I heard that I knew that January was definitely a free trial for me and I did start my new year on February 1st, reason being I was hit with that virus that seems to be doing the rounds on New Year's Day and that was it. I had it for the month and it really did kind of knock me a bit because I just couldn't do everything that I wanted to do, saying that I did work actually quite hard towards the end on my launch. So, as a lot of you know, the Femal Entrepreneur Box is launching on April 1st.

Speaker 1:

I'm so excited about this. I'm so, so, so excited because obviously you know this has been four years in the making and, as a lot of you know, this podcast is a running commentary on what it is like to start a business and what happens when you know I had my business for over 10 years and then you lose it in COVID and effectively starting again and you know, starting again at 44 years old, because I was 44 last week. But it is all good and I am feeling really, really, really positive. I'm very excited as well because, obviously, taking all of that time to plan and make sure that my business strategy was right and that my marketing strategy was on point, so that actually, when it comes to this year, I could implement everything that I had laid down on those foundations, which is just so important. Because the thing is, if you haven't got a strategy, if you haven't got a marketing strategy, if you haven't got a business strategy, you're not going to know where you're going. How can you? I mean, how can you know where you're going if you have no plan? And a lot of you have heard me say this before and, as cliche as it sounds, if you don't have a plan, you definitely plan to fail. You really do, because how do you know where you're going? How do you know what you're doing wrong? There's nothing to measure against. So one of the things that you need to do when you are starting a business is to make sure that your ideal client is on point.

Speaker 1:

Now, when I first started my business back in I suppose it was 13, 14, 14 years ago I guess it was a long time ago and I knew that I had to know who I was selling to. I needed to know effectively who they were, where do they live, that kind of thing. But I did not realise how in depth I needed to go. So, therefore, I learned all about Facebook ads, and I mean I literally learnt Facebook ads until an inch of their life. I studied and studied and studied and researched, and then I began to put Facebook ads out there and they weren't working and I couldn't figure it out. I thought, well, I know exactly what I'm doing, you know, I know, I know this and I know that and I've learned that and I've learned this. But they just weren't working. And the reason that my Facebook ads were not working and they were not giving a very good return was because I didn't really know who I was talking to.

Speaker 1:

I was putting a, you know, a good Facebook ad with maybe a carousel or a good image out there, with an offer that was all perfect, but it was effectively going to the wrong people, it wasn't going to my ideal client. So, of course, I had to act upon this and again I researched what I was supposed to do. I got out there, I trailed everything that I could to find out how do I work out who my ideal client is and what do I include. And this wasn't an exercise that took me a few days. It actually took me a few months. Now, of course, if you know what to include in your ideal client work, then it will take you maybe a day. It wouldn't take you as long as it took me, but of course I didn't know what to include. So I had to go out there and do that research and find out.

Speaker 1:

So obviously I'd started off with you know where did my ideal client live? You know, did they work? Didn't they work? Things like age? You know how old were they? Where did they live? But that was pretty much it. So when it actually come to putting my ideal client together, after I had done all of my research, I included things like why is my ideal client my ideal client? For a start, why are they? What is there by a personal? Of course you, you know I had gender, age, political party I even put that in there income, full-time, part-time work. How does my client dress? Do they exercise? Do they go to a gym? Did I have a home gym? What do they do in their downtime? Do they socialize? It literally went on and on and on and on. What was their professional background? It literally I went on and on and on and I created an avatar and I created a person.

Speaker 1:

In fact, in some ways, I kind of felt like I knew my ideal client more than I knew myself, because it was something that I had to drill down on. And once I had done this and I had put the work in, I then knew who to put that Facebook ad out to, to put that post or that real or that email. I knew who I was talking to. And the thing is, if you don't know who you're talking to, that that it's. It's like throwing money down the drain. For a start, it's like putting a post out and spending all that time doing that real or that post, writing something on the post, doing a bio, your website. But if you don't know who you are talking to, it literally is for nothing because it will be completely ignored, because it's going out to the wrong people.

Speaker 1:

So I do have something coming up in the autumn to do with this. I'm not going to say huge amount now, but it is something really, really excited. So if you were thinking of starting a business or you want to refresh your ideal client, look out in the autumn, because this will be something for you, definitely, definitely for you. So, bit of a short pod this week. I've got a push on today, got so much to do in regards to my launch, but I have really enjoyed recording this app because I do climb is something that I am really passionate about, and I know that if you get that right, everything else seems to kind of come in, especially when you're putting content out on your socials. So have a really good week, everyone, and I'll be back next week. Take care.
