Hello everyone, it's Victoria here and welcome back to another episode of my Entrepreneur Diary. So it's a really special episode because I'm thrilled to share that today. I launched my first business back in oh gosh must be 13, 14 years now and, of course, as a lot of you know, I lost that business when COVID hit. Like a lot of us, a lot of us had to close our businesses. Now that taught me a lot, but one of the things that it did teach me was having an online business, such as a subscription box. God forbid, but if covid happened again, I can still operate an online business. If you have an online business, you can still operate. So that was really important to me, whereas before I had an events business and, of course, like, as I say, a lot of other businesses, covid hit, we went into lockdown and my business went overnight. Now I was lucky that I was freelancing for my dad in his company doing his social media and, of course, a lot of people weren't lucky because they were just they'd lost everything overnight. So I was lucky that I did have that.

But, you know, being sensible and going forward, I knew that I needed to pivot and go into something that would be sustainable if anything like that happened again. And, of course, I had a lot of thinking to do and I came up with the idea of a subscription box for female entrepreneurs. So why did I come up with this idea? Well, I was brought up in what I would call a business family. My grandparents were in business, my dad was in business from the age of 21, 22. And so you know my childhood was very much about being in business, how hard you had to work, and you know what you had to do to effectively be, I guess. Well, just get to the point where, actually, if you wanted something in life, this is what you had to do to get it. And you know I grew up with that mantra. So, of course, I guess, even though I do have a stage background as a singer, it was a very natural path to take by starting my own business.

So from there, I'd had this idea of a subscription box and then I had to decide well, what, what am I going to put in it? You know I didn't want it to be crap. I didn't want to just put a load of rubbish in it. You know it had to be good. It had to be something that a female entrepreneur would need and that they would use. And the reason I say it like that is because when I first started my business, oh, I just brought the most amount of rubbish. I brought loads of office items that actually just look pretty in the office and I never really used ever, and I brought loads of business books. Now, I did a lot of reading when I first started my business and again I am now. I'm reading and I feel like I'm reading for a degree and a lot of those books that I brought really didn't help, and there was only a handful that really did serve me. Well and they really really did help me goes into the box, because that is something that I used when I started my business. But at least now I know which books help and which books to stay away from. So then I was like, right, okay, self-care.

Now, when I first started my business years ago, I forgot about, about myself. I didn't really look after myself. I was raising my son and I just seemed to come at the bottom of the pile and never, ever reached the top, in all honesty, and so I wanted to put a self-care element into the box. Now, self-care I mean, as we all know, is very, very, very varied, but it was really important for me to put that in because I knew that that was something that I kind of missed and I think definitely, even though my events business did well, I would have progressed more if I had looked after myself. So that was really, really important. And of course, along because Along with that comes a nutritionist and the yoga classes.

And again, I'm taking the holistic approach with this. I'm not just focusing on what you would think you need in business, I'm focusing on the whole lot so that you can progress with ease and progress at the pace that you want, but also focusing on yourself. I think it is so important. You know, do you really want that roller coaster ride? I didn't. I was. It was a roller coaster when I first started my first business, whereas if I'd have looked after myself, I don't think it would have been.
