In this colorful episode, we kick things off with Noras play-by-play of an unforgettable night at Beyoncé's Renaissance Tour. The Queen Bey delivered a masterclass in performance art despite Mother Nature's obstacles. The concert stories lead us into an unexpected treasure hunt when we discuss Czech hikers who stumbled upon $360,000 worth of buried gold artifacts from the early 1900s—talk about being in the right place at the right time!

The conversation shifts to the curious world of color psychology as we explore what different colored heart emojis actually mean (careful with that red heart in professional settings!), what colors you should wear on first dates (green for women, lavender for men), and how color coding can revolutionize family organization. When Nora reveals her intricate color-coded calendar system where each family member has their dedicated color, it becomes clear how deeply colors influence our daily lives and relationships.

We couldn't talk about color without taste-testing some vibrant new treats, including Chocolate Covered Pretzel Oreos and Trader Joe's Root Beer Float pieces with popping candy. The episode takes a nostalgic turn when we discover Nora's preserved childhood collection of 72 Crayola crayons—still intact after all these years, saved lovingly by her grandmother who wouldn't let anyone else touch them.

From discovering that blue is the world's most popular color across ten different countries to debating whether "underwear as outerwear" should be a fashion trend, this episode celebrates how color shapes our world, our choices, and our memories. Join us for this spectrum-spanning conversation that might just change how you see the colors around you.

What colored heart emoji do you use most often, and did you know what it actually means? Share your thoughts with us on social media!

Nora's Beyoncé Concert Experience

Speaker 1

Hi, thanks for joining us today. It's Nora and Nora, season 3, episode 49. Oh, that's wild. How are you?

Speaker 2

I'm good. How are you? I'm great. I hate to kind of start off with me, but I was at the Beyonce concert.

Speaker 1

I wanted to ask you about it yesterday, but I wanted to have the genuine organic response on air and not have heard it prior.

Speaker 2

Oh yes, so it's been killing me. It was incredible. It was a week ago today, which is kind of bananas.

Speaker 1

So, back up, I want to hear about your pregame, I know the weather. Up I want to hear about, like your pregame, I know the weather. Yes, I want to hear about your outfits, all the things.

Speaker 2

Last Thursday in Chicago was unseasonably warm, which is kind of funny, because now it's been unseasonably cold. It was 90 degrees. I'd spent the morning and afternoon at the Morton Arboretum on a first grade field trip. I got home, I showered, I put on my denim jumpsuit.

Speaker 1

And you had three to choose from.

Speaker 2

I had six that I ordered a grand total of six, but I only kept one, Although there was another one I really liked, but it was a little bit more casual.

Speaker 1

Do you?

Speaker 2

think you'll wear it again. I think I will. Okay, I kind of liked it. It was comfy A cheap black cowboy hat with rhinestones on it. And what about your footwear? I just wore sneakers. That was smart. You know, I thought we were walking from the restaurant to Soldier Field. We ended up driving. I thought it was me doing a lot of walking and then I was like I'm going to stand for this whole show and I kind of learned from our friend who went to Taylor Swift and hurt her ankle.

Speaker 1

Yes, and also yeah, I had long.

Speaker 2

You know, I had a jumpsuit on, so my feet were covered and I was like I'm 44 years old, I'm just going to wear a sneaker.

Speaker 1

Were you hot.

Speaker 2

No, did it rain, it poured? Yes. So we went to a great restaurant beforehand in the South Loop called the Chicago Firehouse Restaurant, which is special to my family because it was actually my grandfather's firehouse, which is so awesome.

Speaker 2

It's so cool and my sister and I both had wedding showers there. The food is awesome, the service is always great, like it's a really cool spot. So we met. The plan was to meet there for dinner and then walk to Soldier Field. So I went with two friends from college. One was in town, from Ohio, one lives on the north side in Chicago and Claire's knee has been bothering her, so she ended up valet parking at the restaurant and then buying a parking pass at Soldier Field because she was like I don't want to walk because my knee hurts, which worked out to be great.

Speaker 1

It really worked in your favor.

Speaker 2

I had ponchos, I was like ready to get soaked, and so we were sitting at the restaurant and we were kind of, and it was so cute, they had specialty drinks for Beyonce.

Speaker 1

Oh, they did. That was cute, it was really, really.

Speaker 2

It was like welcome, beehive and whatever. It was very cute. So we were getting ready to pay the bill and I went upstairs to go to the bathroom, because that's where the bathrooms are. I didn't bring my phone but on my watch I saw I got a text message from my daughter's teacher. Uh-oh, I was like oh, this is Jackie. So I look at it on my watch she goes I'm sorry your concert got delayed. I hope it still happens and have fun.

Speaker 2

Because I was a shopper on a field trip and I was talking about it with her and I was like, oh no. So then I'm like texting RJ from the bathroom Like don't pay the bill, because the concert was delayed, and I didn't want to be standing in Soldier Field, smart. So we ended up talking to the waiter, we got another round of drinks and dessert and stayed for like another hour. Oh, that was a perfect place to wait, it was great. And then we got to the stadium and then Claire parked in Soldier Field we never even went outside, oh, wow, in the garage too.

Speaker 2

And then we waited in the merch line for an hour, which turned out to be the smartest thing ever, because this merch line was like out of the way and there was no, it was like where the merch line was, you couldn't walk past because that's where they were storing all the sound and light equipment, because there was a tornado warning and rainstorms and things. So it was actually the perfect place to stand because they weren't letting people out into the seats. So after an hour of waiting in the merch line and we got into like the general fold of people it was shoulder to shoulder, inching along, walking, and it was like, what time did it finally start 10.15. And what time did it end? 12.45.

Speaker 1

Oh, my God, that would have given me such anxiety I probably would have left after dinner.

Speaker 2

I was like, oh God, nora would be. She was incredible. Had you seen her before? No, and she was amazing. She sang every song off of Cowboy Carter. She sang other great songs. She was flying around in a horseshoe. She was flying around in a car. At one point, her voice was amazing.

Speaker 2

It was unbelievable. Her dancing was great. Her voice sounded awesome. Her costumes were incredible. She had this dress that looked like an old-fashioned plantation dress, when I was kind of like that's a weird choice. And then it lit up. It was like LED lights, so it was like red and blue.

Speaker 2

I wonder if it was heavy, I don't know, that's a good question. And then it was like this really cool pattern and then it was black and then the light like all drained out of it. It was so neat. And then even during her costume changes, she had these video. They were like short films, so we never wanted to leave the seats because you were like, oh my God, I don't want to miss a second.

Speaker 1

It was awesome.

Weather Woes and Treasure Hunters

Speaker 2

So it all worked out. It was great. And then Claire was really nice too, because I didn't have to wait in the Uber line at Soldier Field. She drove me to a nearby hotel and I waited there, which was great, but I got home at like two. That at like two. That makes me so antsy.

Speaker 1

I'm like rearranging my scene, right now, but then the next night was when Chicago had like a dust storm. Oh my, I was out for that.

Speaker 2

Yeah, oh, so you were outside. Yes, we had.

Speaker 1

That was creepy. We have two of our kids had soccer tournaments and then one of our kids was in high school soccer, so both Ryan and I were in the dust storm.

Speaker 2

Did they have to stop?

Speaker 1

playing Ryan's kids did I mean, they're our children.

Speaker 2

But yes, ryan's group did.

Speaker 1

My group did not. We had 10 soccer games this weekend.

Speaker 2

So there was a lot Between three children?

Speaker 1

Yes, wow, which I guess, really mostly two, but I guess all three. But yeah, that weather was bonkers and then it was so windy it was freezing cold. I sent pictures to friends in Scottsdale of myself with a hat and gloves and a scarf and a winter jacket in May.

Speaker 2

I was at Kevin's baseball game on Tuesday in a winter coat and a hat. I was like this is banana.

Speaker 1

This is so bad and for some reason, my girls wanted to clean their closets out this weekend.

Speaker 2

Ooh, I did that too. I cleaned Rose's closet out.

Speaker 1

Oh, it was so great to walk in there and have them just like getting rid of things, so that was a real high of my weekend. That's great.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I was happy about that, but, hey, switching gears a little bit, please. Did you hear about these guys, these trail walkers in the czech republic? No, we're just like going along on a hike, yeah. And then they found treasure. What, yes, no, found an aluminum chest filled with what turned out to be over 360 000 worth of gold, like bracelets and coins and other treasure. Air like, do they know how old it is? They were trying to date it and right now they were thinking 1912. Dang, it was 15 pounds of treasure.

Speaker 2

Oh my gosh, can you imagine?

Speaker 1

No, and they returned it and now a museum is working to curate it and they received a reward in return.

Speaker 2

I wonder if it was like plundered from people during like World War. I who? Knows Some soldiers just like ditched it or like people or somebody was fleeing somewhere, because there was a lot going on in that area of Europe during the 1910s.

Speaker 1

God bless you and your knowledge oh gosh.

Speaker 2

So I wonder if they'll be able to find who it belonged to, or? Oh, that's really. Oh, that's cool. I know I want to follow that story.

Speaker 1

All right, we'll keep an eye on that one.

Speaker 2

I have a correction to make, oh please. My father called me. It was, like you said, the wrong date for your wedding.

Speaker 1

He said I said January 31st, yeah, is it December? Oh, you're right, I think I just associate January with the new year, I know, and so it just. We appreciate our loyal listeners to catch those things, yeah you know you gotta call me up, I'm not perfect.

Speaker 2

So thank you, Dad, for listening and for setting me straight.

Speaker 1

And maybe he can catch this. I don't know if we've talked about this or not. All right, underwear is outerwear.

Speaker 2

Oh, no, so Mr.

Speaker 1

Ryan, if you've heard us jabbering about this in the past, I'm sorry if this is a rerun.

Speaker 2

I actually just saw Scary Spice was on Jimmy Fallon and she had this dress on. That was outrageous.

Speaker 1

I'm going to try to find it to show you, but what did you read? They're wearing like underwear, briefs, fancy Like all fancied up with a top to coordinate and that's like their bottom outerwear. I'm not a fan of this. I do not support this. The one thing I do like about it is that it has a high waistline.

Speaker 2

Oh.

Speaker 1

But that's all.

Speaker 2

Look at this dress. She's in a lingerie. Oh, but that's all. Look at this dress. She's in a lingerie. This is weird.

Speaker 1

Oh, you know what she's. I think kind of on point with outerwear Underwear as outerwear.

Speaker 2

This basically is kind of like a cream-colored dress, and then it's very sheer and tight-fitting, and then there's hot pink trim, so at the top it looks like bra straps, and then there's hot pink trim, so at the top it looks like bra straps, and then the trim goes under her boobs and then it looks like they embroidered a thong yeah, over it looks like a slip.

Speaker 1

It's a good thing her skin tone is darker, because otherwise it would look yeah like it would, it's just yeah I no, that's not great. No one wants to see that. No, and look, she thinks she's killing it.

Speaker 2

No, not a fan that gives a whole new meaning to VPL. Visible panty light.

Speaker 1

I didn't know that VPL was a thing.

Speaker 2

That's like showcase panty line.

Speaker 1

I don't know how you do that Speaking of VPL and no VPL. Oh no, I told a few on our show last week, accidentally. Well in hindsight, yes, because remember I said I didn't have a low oh.

Speaker 2

I kind of had a low.

Speaker 1

Wait, do I know it? I think so, I think I do, I think you do Okay, so I went to get a cortisone injection. It's so embarrassing I talked to.

Speaker 2

RJ about it.

Speaker 1

What did he say? He was like what is she doing? Oh no, he's like you gotta wear it. Did you tell him that my shorts had built-in underpants? He's like that's.

Speaker 2

He's like you just gotta wear underpants. Then it went to a large Because RJ is a doctor.

Speaker 1

We should back up and tell we should tell the story first.

Speaker 1

So I was wearing a pair of Lululemon workout shorts that have a built-in like Underpants yeah, like brief underpants situation. So I slipped those on after I jumped out of the shower and then I was like, oh, I need to remember to put on underpants because I'm going to the doctor to get a cortisone injection in that general area and I don't want to expose too much. Sure, I forgot to do that. So when I went into the room that where they give the like the exam room, the nurse told me to undress from the bottom down and then I was in a real big what does one do? I started I had my shorts. I was like, should I tuck my shorts into the lining of the bikini? Yeah, but then I was like, no, because the, because the injection really is higher up, so if I had underpants on, he probably would have had to. Like.

Speaker 2

Finagle.

Speaker 1

Move yeah. So that would have been weird too, but that would have been way a million times less.

Speaker 2

You were just offering way more options, less.

Speaker 1

There was N V P L no.

Speaker 2

Just N P L, oh, my, my god, so that was my low.

Speaker 1

I was reasoning with myself back and forth while she's like I'll step out while you change. And then I kind of reached a point where I was like I need to make a decision because she's going to come back in and I'm still going to be fully closed like I couldn't decide.

Speaker 2

So I told my kids that and they lost their minds oh, my god, oh yeah, they had a good giggle, because then I was talking to RJ about because he's an emergency room doctor. He's, like you know, having to like cut garments off of people who are like being surprised with what people are wearing or not wearing underneath, and just he's seen it all. So I'm sure the doctor is just like OK, yeah, or they might have just thought you were like overzealous and like oh, they didn't hear us say like keep your underpants on.

Speaker 1

I feel like if I was wearing like a thong underpants, I would be revealing the same amount, essentially Right. He would have just seen the fact that I was wearing underpants.

Speaker 2

Whatever, speaking of wearing things, though, I think it's light wash jeans and like a dark color top, like about a black top. And it's really funny because this article I read is this for women only?

Speaker 2

this is for women, like look at all the like girls standing in the sidewalk wearing like dark tops and the same jeans and they're it's like they're wearing a uniform. And then they're like they have no style. They're so boring, they don't they look, they're not great. Because then this story was about, h&m is selling this shirt. It's called a defined waist t-shirt dress, but it is legit an oversized men's Hanes t-shirt. Yes, and so this has been like a big Are Gen Z going crazy over it. They're like this is so cute, it's so great. And then other people are like this is like wearing your dad's t-shirt.

Speaker 2

Yeah look at her. She's like what she's like, oh I. She looks like she's kind of in a hospital gown.

Speaker 1

So I saw a hilarious Instagram reel by a mom that was so frustrated with her teenage boy's attire and said he looks like post-op Because it's like the giant, like shower slippers, almost like the rubbery, and then oversized pants afitting shirt their hair a mess. He looks like yeah, close stuff.

Speaker 2

I tell Aiden he looks like prison, like prison workout time, when they're like okay, walk around in a circle, like that's what you look like. And he's like it's fine, it's fine, it's fine.

Speaker 1

But, anyways, I thought that was kind of an interesting Speaking of Gen Zers. They have a new TikTok trend that Sprite followed up on. Oh it's like, hey, gen Z, like we're picking up what you're laying down, we're going to try and make money off this. Oh it's so. They've been taking teabags and brewing them in Sprite.

Speaker 2

Yes, Look at what I have written down. Oh, sprite iced tea, yes, but wait, I just saw the product.

Speaker 1

I didn't know where it came from. It's for sale at Mariano. Oh it is. Yes. Oh my gosh, Wait. So finish your story. I'm sorry, I jumped all over you. No, no.

Speaker 2

I didn't, I'm sorry.

New Snack Taste Tests

Speaker 1

No, no, you didn't. So that's essentially. What I'm saying is that TikTokers, gen Z, tiktok talkers are brewing tea in Sprite and going bananas for it, and Sprite was like wait a second, this is not a half bad idea. So they created an already made product, only available for a limited time this summer, and when I read this summer, I didn't realize it was out yet, so I hadn't looked for it.

Speaker 2

It's at Mariano's, but I cause, you know, I do pick up groceries. I couldn't do it for pickup, I could only do it for delivery.

Speaker 1

I'll have to keep an eye out. Here's something else I picked up at Mariano's New Oreo. Do you want to see if you? Can determine what flavor it is.

Speaker 2

Okay, oh, it looks chocolatey.

Speaker 1

I haven't had a man either, but I know what it is.

Speaker 2

It doesn't smell like anything.

Speaker 1

And listeners. It's like a reverse Oreo.

Speaker 2

Oh, Because the outside is it's salty, but the filling is chocolatey. Yeah, oh, it's like chocolate cream pie or something. Close You're close it's like a graham cracker crust.

Speaker 1

It's supposed to be chocolate covered pretzel.

Speaker 2

Oh. But I don't taste any pretzel. The first bite I was, remember I was like it's salty, mm-hmm. I'd buy these. You know what reminds you? Reminds me of, reminds me of Did you ever eat EL fudge cookies? Mm-hmm.

Speaker 1

That's exactly what this tastes like.

Speaker 2

I got a little bit of salt again. Those are really good, I know.

Speaker 1

Okay, so here's another treasure that I found, but these came from Trader Joe's. Hmm, now full disclosure. Okay, I've had one.

Speaker 2

All right.

Speaker 1

And my friend and his sons. No, my son and his friends. That's way better. My son and his friends were here when I came home from the grocery store, and so I offered it to them, and they were unable to determine what it was.

Speaker 2

Okay, and you've had they were.

Speaker 1

They recognized the taste, oh, but they couldn't place it. These are worse after you eat this.

Speaker 2

It's um, it's chocolate covered. What are the those mints? Like the dinner, like the, eat another one, it's peppermint.

Speaker 1

Eat another one after you've cleansed the palate. You You'll get a better idea.

Speaker 2

Can I bite it in half and look inside? Mm-hmm, that didn't help.

Speaker 1

It was so funny, it's minty. It's not minty. One of the boys said to me oh, mrs Westphal, there are Pop Rocks in here. Yeah, and he is not an adventurous eater. So I felt badly because I didn't see that on the packaging.

Speaker 2

I said no rocks in there. On the packaging it does say with popping candy. You know those like mints that they would have on the like the hostess stand. They were like chalky. It tastes like chocolate covered chalky mints, but that's not what it was Pop rocks.

Speaker 1

Root beer float. Oh root beer float pieces.

Speaker 2

I get no root beer. The aftertaste is root beer.

Speaker 1

I think the mint is supposed to be root beer. Vanilla sandwich cookie pieces with popping candy covered in a root beer flavored confectionary coating.

Speaker 2

Can I see this? There's no mint in here. It's weird that they made them in like clusters. I wonder if that was a mistake. They're like oh no, we dropped the tray. Just cover them in chocolate and we'll see their pieces. You don't taste mint. I gotta have this one. This is really good. The taco covered pretzel Oreos. These are delightful. Highly recommend these Same. How do you feel about the root beer float pieces?

Speaker 1

I liked them more when I ate them on their own versus following the Oreo.

Speaker 2

Okay, that's fair, because this is really good.

Speaker 1

This is fantastic. This is the best Oreo I've tried.

Speaker 2

I think part of the problem is I was like I don't know what I'm eating.

Colors: Meaning and Symbolism

Speaker 1

There's so much going on. Yeah, yeah, the boys were not fans. Okay, there you have it.

Speaker 2

Should we cleanse our palate and check in with our sponsor?

Speaker 1

I have one more story to share. If we can do that first, yes, please. Okay, I just thought this was interesting. The question that was posed was what is the best color to wear on a first date? There was an article all about colors to wear, and for women they said green because it represents growth, life and luck. But men are not to wear green. No, they are not. No, men should wear lavender because it's a friendly vibe and makes them appear approachable. They said no to black.

Speaker 2

Oh, boy, and no to red for the first stage. Red, I would think would be a strong color yeah. So I don't know. So maybe Kermit was wrong.

Speaker 1

It is easy, but I also thought I was like oh, green and purple look so nice together. They complement each other so well. Yes, yeah, so that's true. Anyway, should we check in with our sponsor? Yes, we should.

Speaker 2

Oh, hey there, Nora, nora, just the girl I wanted to talk to you about.

Speaker 1

Tell me more, you know, you know I directed Children's Musical and I've got this props list that I'm trying to work through and I really need a tire.

Speaker 2

You think I have a tire. Well, I don't know. I'm just, I'm getting desperate. Where does one get a tire? I know a guy. You all have a guy for everything.

Speaker 1

Hagerty Buick GMC service department is full Of tires Of the answers. They have a Fresh Start Tire event going on now. Buy three, get one for a dollar on select tires Wait buy three, get one for a dollar. Yes, and I'm sure if we head down to 93rd and Cicero, we'd be able to find something for you.

Speaker 2

Well, that would be great, because you know what? Why don't I just get my car some new tires, put the old one in my show?

Speaker 1

I mean, I think we just solved that problem. Prayer's answered. While you're there, you can take a look at the rest of their inventory too Hummer EVs, sierra pickups, I mean you name it, buick, encores, gosh, they have it all, yeah, everything for a great deal, right on the corner, right on the price. How can I get a hold of them? You can check them out on haggardycarscom, or head on down to 93rd and Cicero and just tell them Nora sent you. And now back to the show.

Speaker 2

Nora, I'm so glad you brought up that article about what color to wear on a first date, because our topic today is color.

Speaker 1

Yay, I know, I thought that was kind of fitting. It's funny.

Speaker 2

I think for me, because and I think you're in a similar spot I did not ever really go on a first date with Al. We kind of just met because we met in college. Yeah, we met in college. Can you imagine going on a first date?

Speaker 1

Dating in general would be a dumpster fire for me.

Speaker 2

Oh God, Our first date was to the movies me, oh god, our first date was to the movies. Oh, like a first real, real date yeah, oh, that was.

Speaker 1

Oh. Yeah, that's right, and that was not.

Speaker 2

You fell asleep, but whatever, let's say they're here, nor they're back to color. Back to color. Do you have a favorite color?

Speaker 1

I do have a favorite color, it's pink, very nice but mostly I buy blue when it comes to floating for myself and for the kids.

Speaker 2

Okay, because I think we all look best in it you, you guys have, you all have really nice blue eyes, so yeah, that makes sense, thank you.

Speaker 1

How about you?

Speaker 2

My favorite color is purple, but I'm mostly black, but purple does look good with black, but I do like. I like mostly black, but I'm like Batman Black and very, very dark. Right, little pops of color Like all splash, like pink or purple or green, I like Even your clipboard has a black background Mostly black with a little pop of color. I spent a lot of time in my master's program studying color.

Speaker 2

Oh, you did, and it's like we have an expert on the show today, an in-house expert For my movement class, one of my movement classes, our teacher, each class we would focus on a different color, okay, and we would have to. We would do like a meditation about the color and like the qualities of it and things like that, and then we would have to get up and then move around.

Speaker 1

Like the color Mm-hmm. So if you were red would you be like, yeah, Look at you.

Speaker 2

No, okay, or you could be like very passionate and like in love. Or you were like angry.

Speaker 1

Yes, I read it in English. If you were pink, would you be?

Speaker 2

like soothing. I don't. Yeah, pink would be kind of like oh, or yellow would be kind of like hyper and high energy, but it never failed. On the days where I had this class and I was like being a color for an hour and a half of my day, I always needed to meet up with Al for like a very serious work dinner and then I'd be sitting there like three hours ago. I was green, and now I'm sitting here asking you about your summer travel bliff.

Speaker 1

Would you wear like a monochromatic green outfit? No we would just wear whatever we wore to school that day. So I want to ask you then if this is true, do red, orange and yellow typically represent anxious energy and joy?

Speaker 2

Yeah, I would think so. It's like excitement and I think that's why you see, like stop signs are red, you know a lot of the construction, and like warning stuff is orange and like school buses are yellow. A lot of street signs are red, orange and yellow.

Speaker 1

I think for that reason Would you agree that green is peaceful, blue is balance and purple is relaxation.

Speaker 2

I would say yes, because purple to me is more royal and regal, oh okay, and maybe relaxed, but I would think of it more Proper. Proper, okay, mm-hmm, do you feel that way at all?

Speaker 1

I never actually thought about it. I black sophisticated and white purity, that was kind of a brainer. I thought it was interesting to read about the emojis and what the hearts represent. Oh, I didn't know that Shoot Well, I had a shoot situation. Well, I've had a couple. You've had a while I had a shoot situation. Well, I've had a couple One. I was using the heart right when it came out the red heart, probably for things I shouldn't, because that means like romantic romantic.

Speaker 1

It's like remember when I hearted one of my landscapers texts and he sent back the kissing emoji and when I retold that story everyone was like why would you heart that? And I was like I love that he was coming over tomorrow to finish the work.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Like no, that's thumbs up. So I got schooled and that was awkward. Wait, do tell what the other hearts mean. So red signifies romance. Yes, Yellow can be used for platonic relationships or friendship. Okay.

Speaker 2

I've never used the yellow. No, I don't think I have either. I think of like yellow ribbons, like in support, like that kind of.

Speaker 1

Purple to show strong affection.

Speaker 2

Okay, I use that a lot with my aunts or like for girls, like girly, like girl power-y, kind of stuff. Like, oh, I love that Green for envy or jealousy, then why would that be a heart Right? Like I love, how jealous of you.

Speaker 1

I am, I love you, but I'm jealous. This is the one I use most. I use these two the most. The blue heart oh, that's nice. It says it's a casual love. I like a casual.

Speaker 2

It's like a show Situationship.

Speaker 1

No, I think it's like just a casual love or something.

Speaker 2

I use the different colors Like if something comes out about our kids school, then like school colors. Like I'll do green and white and Naz is good for the blues.

Speaker 1

I noted that too, that I often do that. And then the pink with like the heart, like the Like. What does that mean? It's supposed to represent playful and bubbly, oh, like. Haha, I love that.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

So I use that.

Speaker 2

That was like the worst fake laughing. That was like the worst acting ever. Ha ha ha. I love that. Well, thank you.

Speaker 1

I have often wondered why we need so many cards. But mostly I use them how you use them, because I think it's a cute way, especially if I'm texting somebody or like a group that I'm just more casual with than like good friends with. It's a nice like closure.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I like now that with the emojis you can use any emoji you want responding to a message.

Speaker 1

I do too.

Childhood Memories and Color-Coded Lives

Speaker 2

I love that I use the skull mostly and also this has nothing to do with colors, but do you know you can send text messages. You can schedule a time to send text messages now. It's amazing. I do this at night now all the time where I'm like send it at like 9, am send it at this time I don't know so, like I could, I could write you a text right now. It's 11, 22 am okay I'm gonna write you one too.

Speaker 2

And then so I. So I'm going to, I can type it out Hi, nora. Oh, it auto-corrected to Anita. That's my name too. I spelled that right. Why did it auto-correct to Anita? Anyways, okay, so, hi Nora. And then if you press that little plus, sign yeah, send later. Oh, my Nora. And then if you press that little plus, sign yeah, send later.

Speaker 1

Oh, my goodness.

Speaker 2

And then you can pick exactly what time you want it to send, that's amazing.

Speaker 2

So I can say, oh, I want this to go at 1125. Nora. And then you see it in this little. But why would you do this? Because I will respond to a lot of text messages at night sometimes. But then I'm like I shouldn't do it, it's too late. But then I don't want to forget to text people. I had a couple of things with the musical that I was like oh, I don't want to forget to ask so-and-so about tickets or about props or whatever. So then I could type it out at night when I thought about it. But then have it be sent at like 9 am. Huh it, huh, it's great, that's great. Or like remind. Like I was like, oh, I can't forget tomorrow to like bring whatever. So I was like what if I send you a reminder? So I was like don't forget Rory's paperwork. And then it was at like the time they were leaving.

Speaker 1

This is the best podcast. It's so good, but anyway, that's where we get podcasting. It's so good, but anyway, meanwhile, I was just going to tell you the color of the year. Oh, what is it? What is the Panatone Institute of Color?

Speaker 2

Oh, they are the Institute of Color. They kind of determine what colors and how much of each like, how to blend them, and that's like the kind of the master key for color.

Speaker 1

So they would be a reputable source, they would be a good source. Yes, yeah, mocha Moose.

Speaker 2

Mocha Moose, mocha Moose. Remember we talked about Moose for a long time. We did Last year. Yes, we had a good three, four episode run on Moose.

Speaker 1

Actually there's a channel that you can stream that watch the Moose. Oh, their migration. Yes, Maybe we were onto something. Maybe they got that idea from us.

Speaker 2

They probably did. A lot of people do Mocha moose. I'm assuming that's a brown.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I don't look great in brown and I don't love that color.

Speaker 2

I feel like it's hard to find brown to wear yeah. Unless. Yeah, well, we also have brown hair so yeah, unless.

Speaker 1

Yeah, well, we also have brown hair, so I feel like that's not a good color. When we were renovating our house, like the brownish and the taupe-ish tones were big, but my self always tries to be neutral and then lands on color. Yeah, like there's just a lot of color in here, even though I tried to be neutral. I think so maybe, but you need a little bit. Yeah, but brown, otherwise it looks sterile.

Speaker 2

Yeah, you don't want that. No, I use color a lot to organize myself. I just wrote I wish I had a color-coded calendar I do. You can too. I don't know how to. Well, I do it on my. Actually. Actually, I do it on my paper calendar and my online calendar. Each member of my family has a color.

Speaker 1

In your paper calendar.

Speaker 2

Yeah, so your paper calendar On my wall calendar Like look at this mess, this is no colors.

Speaker 2

Well, I don't use a planner anymore. This is on my wall calendar. Oh, okay. So on my wall calendar, like I'm purple, rose is pink, al is orange and rory's blue, aiden's green, kevin is red. So when I write the stuff in, I don't have to write like kevin baseball, it's just in red. So I know. And then if it's something we're all doing, or like me and al are doing, it's in black. Oh, but then what I like, and then you just have all the markers. I have all the sharpies in a little thing by the calendar.

Speaker 1

And you have a big master calendar.

Speaker 2

Well, it's like a wall calendar and what goes on it? Sports games, school, like days off of school, vacation, like everything. Everything goes on there, doctor's appointments, all of it. And then my calendar on my computer. It has the same colors, even for the musical for speech club. Computer has the same colors, even for the musical for speech club. I have all my kids color-coded Like I have. Like the sixth graders are green, the eighth graders are blue, seventh graders are red and then. So then I can. I really need that organization.

Speaker 1

Maybe that's what I need.

Speaker 2

Color-coded.

Speaker 1

I just maybe I need to jump ship.

Speaker 2

Oh, and go digital.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I'm just over here in 1994, like living my best agenda life. It is.

Speaker 2

I like having that, but sometimes it's you can't have it with you all the time, but you your system works Well.

Speaker 1

My system is run by my boss, which is you? No, it's Ryan. Oh, he does the scheduling for our house, oh God. And then he sends me a note of the week. Oh, that's really nice and I put it in my calendar and I try to put it in properly.

Speaker 2

So if you had a joint calendar you could all put in your stuff and then it would all populate. So like Al will put stuff in and then I'll get a pop-up like oh, he has a work dinner.

Speaker 1

And you can see that on your phone.

Speaker 2

Yeah, we're looking at it on my laptop.

Speaker 1

This is riveting for our listeners, the same thing as my phone, right.

Speaker 2

But yeah, I could not survive without my little color-coded system, because then it also helps me know like oh wow, kevin's really busy that day, or Aiden, like just looking at it at a glance and you can kind of figure that out.

Speaker 1

But do you know what? My favorite place to see color is Nature, and I wouldn't like really consider myself a nature girl, but I love fall.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

With the change in colors and rainbows and sunsets and freshly fallen white snow, it really takes your breath away those moments, yeah, and it kind of like resets your mood a little bit too, and I feel like we're lucky.

Speaker 2

In our neighborhood we see the best of the seasons we really do, like this was a really beautiful fall this year, like the leaves were really nice and people take a lot of care to plant flowers, and even downtown Chicago, like always, does a really nice job with all those beautiful colors and things, and the airport does too.

Speaker 1

Oh, always does a really nice job with all those beautiful colors and things, and the airport does too. Oh, yeah, oh, my goodness, all right, should we jump in a high school? Can?

Speaker 2

you guess? Sorry, would you like to guess what the most popular color in the world is? I was hoping you'd ask Okay, is it blue? It is yeah, it's the most popular color in 10 different countries the us, the uk, germany and then a lot of countries in asia. And then green was second place and then red, red. Well, I think in a lot of asian countries it's a color like a good luck color oh, that would make sense so that's probably why it's a lot of people's favorite color.

Speaker 1

So yeah, hooray for color, hooray for color. But it was a crayon once for Halloween. True colors Were you.

Speaker 2

So yellow crayon once for Halloween.

Speaker 1

Oh yellow, We'll have to ask my mom.

Speaker 2

Rose just won a box of crayons at school. I don't know for what.

Speaker 1

I think she won like the estimation contest and she is so proud of this because nothing beats a brand new box of crayons do you know, when I was a kid, I had a box of 64 crayola that's what she just won, so I had a carrying case for it and my grandma wouldn't let anyone else use those crayons because they were my crayons, and now I have them back really. So she saved them all those years. Oh, and when I would go see her in the last few years I would let my kids use them and then finally I took them.

Speaker 2

It's like a little briefcase right and you would open it up your memory, my friend.

Speaker 1

Yes, oh my god, I love that. Your grandma's. And when my other cousins would come over, she would say no, those are Nora's crayons, oh my gosh, these are vintage.

Speaker 2

Here they are.

Speaker 1

Look at what. Oh, it's interesting to see which colors you were going towards. I just had one broken one, One casualty All these years. Yeah.

Speaker 2

All right, yeah, a lot of blue. Your greens are pretty well preserved. Yeah, they are.

Speaker 1

I think the veins are pretty well preserved. Yeah, they are. Silver was popular. Oh yeah, Look at that. I think I was also a big fan of the neons.

Speaker 2

Yeah, is this copper? Yeah, you had a material.

Speaker 1

Oh gold, oh gold, these fluorescents. Man, I was all over these.

Speaker 2

And the pink. It was the 80s and 90s Carnation pink. Oh you loved, is this cornflower blue? Oh no ultra blue florist yeah you had a real neon thing.

Speaker 1

I always remember is this periwinkle. Yeah, I always remember liking that color that's a good one. Crayola really. I mean, they haven't really changed too much.

Speaker 2

Their font If it ain't broke man. Yeah, the font is a little different, but you can go and tour the factory. Where is it? I think it's in. Is it in Michigan? Oh, it's in Pittsburgh or Pennsylvania, excuse me, yes. Okay, now this makes sense, because I wanted to go to the factory on the way to New York one year and I was vetoed by who? Alexander?

Speaker 1

Come on, it's in.

Speaker 2

Easton, pennsylvania. But I would love to go there. I'd go there and to see like, because I remember there was a thing on Sesame Street that was like a whole video of how crayons were made and just like the clean, crisp, like.

Speaker 1

And I made a mistake. I said it was 64. This is 72.

Speaker 2

72, you baller yeah.

Speaker 1

That was Marion for you. Yeah, she was Thanks.

Speaker 2

I love that you still have. I mean, that's the best case for crayons. It really is. They're like we should bring that back. Yeah, Look at that.

Speaker 1

There she is Real beaut. Shall we high and low? Yeah, let's go for it.

Speaker 2

All right. Well, my low is the weather. Yeah, it's real. I don't even mind that it's chilly, it's just gray Dreary. It feels like October or November it really does.

Speaker 1

Yeah, hopefully it's short-lived. My low is I'm like chasing after my fence guy. What he keeps standing me up. I need to have some work done on our brand new fence. No, yeah, so that we can get it stained because you had to wait a year. Oh, I didn't know that, but he keeps like stringing me along. He said he'll be here tomorrow, so who knows Well, fingers crossed oh yeah, there you go.

Speaker 1

But my high is last week, last Friday, I got to catch up with my very best childhood friend. Forgot to ask Jane Middendorf, how was it? Who was born in the same hospital a day apart? We grew up across the street from one another, oh my gosh, and we're absolutely inseparable. So she was in town for her sister's 50th and we met at her sister's house and her mom came over and we laughed our heads off catching up.

Speaker 2

I mean, it was so good, I could have stayed all day.

Speaker 1

Yeah, it's a good thing I had to pick up kids at school. You would have just settled in oh it was so great.

Speaker 2

Oh, that's so nice. You speak of her often on the podcast.

Speaker 1

Whenever it's something like silly or zany. I feel like you're like with my and we played so many games Like we talked about about. We had this game that we play job opportunities. She had a huge phone like switchboard phone, oh, so we'd, play job opportunities. How can we help you and then we'd help each other find jobs? Yeah, I mean we had a syrup called Ventimus Syrup. That was like a secret syrup. I mean you were, I used to do things like that too.

Speaker 2

Yeah, bananas kind of.

Speaker 1

It was fun to just kind of rehash everything. Oh fun how about you?

Speaker 2

My high is Beyonce.

Speaker 1

Yes, and fun to see your old friends too. Yes.

Speaker 2

It was great to see RJ and Claire. We were like the perfect group to go see that concert because it was a lot of downtime.

Speaker 1

I mean, we met for dinner at five o'clock. You know what the nice thing is, though? That downtime gave you an opportunity to catch up with each other.

Speaker 2

Yeah, we did. We had a really nice catch up. But it was funny, we were at the stadium at like 930. I was like kind of hungry and RJ's like we ate four and a half hours ago.

Speaker 1

I was like that's true. Do you have any pictures that we can post? Do you have any pictures that we can post? I have a lot of pictures, oh great.

Speaker 2

Sorry, you asked. No, I have a ton of pictures.

Speaker 1

Okay, well, we'll post them.

Speaker 2

For our listeners, it was amazing. All right, well, thank you for joining us today.

Speaker 1

And come back next week. Yep, bye, bye.
