Pharaoh cannot believe that a single moment of weakness has lost him his entire Hebrew workforce.

He has his chariot prepared for battle and gathers his army.

He commissions 600 chariots which gallop out of Ramses toward the Israelite camp.

When the Egyptians are almost on top of them, the terrified refugees cry out to God

What happens next is one of the most epic events in the Bible and one which is repeated over and again in the Old Testament to remind the Jews of how God rescued them from Egypt.

With the hooves of the Egyptian horses bearing down on him and the million or so slaves who are depending on him to lead them to safety looking up at him, Moses stands facing the sea and once again raises his staff.
