Hey there, welcome to another episode of our series all about social media. In this series, we started off talking about how to pick a platform, where to start, how to think about social media in a broader context, the power of social media. Now we're going through, one by one, different platforms, what I like about them, what you should think about them and just some general best practices being recorded in September 2023. So, like I've said in previous episodes, best practices change all the time as algorithms change and platforms change, and a couple years ago, I would have been recommending getting on Clubhouse, and that's not something that anybody talks about anymore. And Meta just had a launch of threads really not that long ago and already no one's talking about that. So things change in the social media world all the time, but one of the big players that really hasn't changed that much since probably since its inception is YouTube. So in this little snackable, bite-size episode about YouTube, I'm just going to talk you through how I see this as working for your general social media stack and how I like to use it, both in our business and also for our social media clients and podcasting clients that we work with which, by the way, if you want us to launch a show for you or manage your social media, get in touch, because that's the stuff that we like to do and that's kind of the stuff that no one else likes to do. So when you find somebody that likes to do it, you hire them and you take that part and you just push off your plate.
Speaker 1:Having said that, youtube for me, I would underline it multiple times for one very specific reason search engine optimization. Youtube owned by Google, one of the biggest search engines in the world, on the planet besides Google, and do a little test yourself when you search for something on Google. A lot of times what you'll see is towards the top of the search page, you'll see some YouTube videos that are thrown into the mix, and so I want you to think about YouTube channel as not necessarily that you have something that you have to put a lot of focus into, unless you are this is true for some clients that YouTube is their main social media platform, and if that's the truth, then there are a lot of other videos out there into more of the details around the best practices and keywords and how to set your videos up and how to create a content calendar. All of that good stuff. For most of our clients and ourselves included, it really is like a spill-off spillover platform. That where we can repurpose some of our content how I like to see it repurposed is for podcasting. Obviously, youtube is a great place to just record some video content, so have your video up while you're recording your podcast, bring that whole thing over to YouTube and have your podcast also on a YouTube channel. It's very easy and also improves the SEO of your podcast and also of your business and of your services, just by intelligently key wording the titles of your episodes. So really thinking about what kind of keywords that you want to rank for and making sure that those are in your description in the box on YouTube that you are setting up the keywords on the video that you're looking to trend for and that the keywords are also represented in your title as well. So it gives you some ideas around content creation and also how to repurpose some of your content. You can also create video content specifically dedicated for YouTube.
Speaker 1:Another way that I like using a YouTube channel as kind of runoff content repurposing is their YouTube shorts, which formulate or kind of similar to Instagram Reels or TikTok videos. These are short, shareable scrollable videos that you see a lot when you will log into the YouTube app, so they're super popular, give you an opportunity to get in front of some new people and, like I said, for me the end, all be all of YouTube is search engine optimization, and so for me it feels like a missed opportunity. If you have some video content, if you're making Reels, if you have a TikTok channel and you're not going over and having a YouTube channel and also posting these on YouTube shorts, it feels like a missed opportunity because it takes maybe like three to five minutes more and it gets you on another platform. If you have the time and you've already developed an Instagram content strategy, I like having a YouTube strategy where you create a little bit more kind of longer form content. So maybe with YouTube it could be five to ten minutes of content. That's educational. It gives us an opportunity to create learner videos and explainer videos and if part of your business is around giving out education, so you have an online program. Right, you're a fertility specialist and you have an online program all about fertility and it's priced at a point where students don't have to, or purchasers they don't have to get on a discovery call with you. They just go to your website. Having a YouTube channel is a great idea, having a whole education series around infertility and things related to your niche and your avatar and related to your program or your service. Youtube can be an amazing resource for that. It's an amazing resource for building relationships, but, first and foremost, I see it as an educational tool that is tied to a really great SEO strategy.
Speaker 1:There's not much more that I need to say about YouTube. I feel like it's very straightforward in how it's used, why you would use it. For a lot of clients, like I said, it's not their number one platform, but it makes a lot of sense, especially as you get your foundation set up on Facebook, instagram. Maybe you're verging into podcasting or developing a TikTok strategy to make sure that you're also represented on YouTube, that you're creating regular content. Not a lot of people will need to create original content there. I would say that's definitely a great platform if you are an educator or if you have, like I said, a program, a wellness program, something like that, if you are a fertility specialist, if you're a health coach, if you have a specific niche or focus, creating some educational content, even if it's just once a month is a great idea. So I'm a big fan of YouTube for search engine optimization and just adding it to your stack of platforms. So excited to see how you engage with this platform for your own business.
