Yin and Yang
Ka'imi and Tiffany discuss the concept of yin and yang: complementary forces that interact to create a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the parts.
[00:00:00] Thank you for joining us, everyone. Today, we're going to talk about yin and yang.
So, Kaimi, I've always been curious to hear, what does this concept mean to you and what key principle do you think it relates most to?
Yin and yang is a Chinese philosophical concept that describes opposite but interconnected forces. So, to me, this means you have to feel one in order to feel the other.
I think this is a really important concept, especially when you're a mover. To me, it, relates or correlates to the one point, which is about finding and maintaining your center. So, I personally like the discovery of why I'm out of balance. I know that seems out of sorts, but I really like to feel that moment and go, okay, I am out of balance.
What can I do? And what am I doing currently to, adjust that and to change that? And how do I find that [00:01:00] balance? I always teach that if you can feel it, you can fix it. So you definitely need to feel it in your body in order to make any adjustments.
I love that phrase if you can feel it then you can fix it and it It seems to apply to life too, not just, in, movement. Like you were saying, Kaimi, and what resonates especially with me is the feeling it because, it sounds like you're talking about how you enjoy the discovery of why you feel out of balance, whether there's too much yin or too much yan.
To me, this relates to when we are feeling,, An emotion that we associate with something negative, let's say we're feeling frustrated or angry about something and we just brush it off if we don't really let ourself feel the feels. That feeling that we just brushed off, how are you going to fix it?
And I think that all does connect to one point [00:02:00] because it's getting to center. But if you're not in touch with why you're not centered, how are you going to take the steps to fix it? So I agree completely about how this relates to one point and the discovery of it is probably the hard part
discovery of why you're out of balance, but it sounds like you've really leaned into it.
You know, my interpretation of it is in certain aspects it's dark and light, bad or good, but I also don't necessarily think it's all bad or all good. we have to be on one side or the other, or we have to be perfectly balanced.
I think in order to see the light, you have to go through these difficult challenges. That way you can see the other side. To me it's finding that continuous Swinging door.
Even with business and in life, I have an idea and I don't always research. I don't always go through it, and I really prepare for things. I just have an [00:03:00] idea and I'm like, oh. Well, then this weekend, we're gonna have an event and I just go for it. Sometimes I follow my face and sometimes I feel like, well, at least I executed it, I think , in business more people are very prepared.
They read a ton of books, everything , is all lined up. Sometimes I feel like they don't always execute, right? They're constantly preparing, preparing, preparing, and then where's the execution in that? So I think maybe this is why you and I also come together because we're such a combination of the two.
You definitely, prepare, that comes with being a lawyer too, you're always have everything in order and everything lined up. I'm just like, yeah, let's just go for it. Let's just see what happens. It's nice , to actually find the team. It's all about realizing who you are as a person, how you work how you move, how you react to different situations, are you Yin or are you Yan? What do you need more of? What do you need less of? It's checking in and knowing [00:04:00] yourself and honoring what you are going, okay, well, how can I influence that other side to me?
Or, how can I bring in others? That will complement what I do, and how I am. How do you feel are you more Yin? I'm wondering how you are in business and if you've seen any correlation with Yin and Yang and how you have been able to deal with certain situations that you've come in.
I agree completely. We compliment each other really well in that way. Because Kaimi, you're ready to go improvise. And that's actually where it seems like you thrive, right? For me, I want to have a plan. I want to know the details, what could go wrong, what could go right. And even more information than that sometimes.
I've seen that situation , in business too, with a lot of the teams that I work with, if there's too much [00:05:00] of the yen or people who want to get faxed. And more facts and more facts as opposed to not enough of people who will say, okay, we have enough facts. It's time for us to take action.
Then things do get really out of balance and then you get stuck. And so. It's really important like in all areas of life to know where you can use some complementary perspective and know when to seek that and value people's differing perspectives. So it helps, right? Light a fire under your butt if necessary or slow you down if needed.
And I love the, the check in that you mentioned because it's, that's how you realize, oh, okay, I do need that perspective.
Going back to what I said previously if you can feel it, you can fix it. It's about enjoying that discovery. I [00:06:00] think there's a lot of frustration that sets in with just your day to day activities or if somebody realizes or maybe doesn't realize if they have too much yin or have too much yan.
There's a lot of frustration that sets in and I think it's, it's imperative that we step outside and we really, are honest with ourselves and go, okay, this is how I maneuver. This is how I work. What can I do to even things out, to balance or like I said before, how can we bring somebody else in that, can help and compliment.
It's important that we see that and again, that we're honest with ourselves and we do a check in. And sometimes, there's moments where, I'm a little bit more of a hermit. I'm a little bit lazier, maybe with the weather or whatever it is. So then you go, okay, well I'm going to get up and I'm going to do a HIIT workout. at that moment, or I'm, I'm going to go for a little run, something to compliment how you're feeling.
Maybe it's a little sluggish, [00:07:00] and then, man, it really boosts you up, but it's just to find that balance. Again, it's observing and being honest and truthful with how you really feel and how you really are and what we can do to to balance ourselves. But yeah, I love this subject.
I think , it's just important that we don't get so frustrated and that we go, okay, how can we learn from this rather than, hating on ourselves and, saying, I wish I wasn't like this . I wish I wasn't, so fiery all the time. Well, okay. How can we chill ourselves out?
Maybe we need to, a couple more yoga classes. Maybe a little more Qigong. The takeaway, is just constantly checking in realizing and feeling it again, bringing in some friends like yourself to complement one another.
Thank you so much for tuning in with us. We'll catch you next time.
