Eagles' Redemption: Overcoming Tragedy, Quarterback Bias, and Super Bowl Glory Pursuit
The Power of the Power of the Power of the Power of. And then there was two. Lucky it wasn't my two, but oh well, at least someone is representing the Super Bowl, and it's your boys here TJ and DK and the DK and Tree Podcast. Again. Then there was two. But I just want to say this right off the break, before we even start Fuck Kansas City. All right, go ahead. Hey, look who it is. It's Tish Just staying off the break. You know, man just staying at, you know you know, man, we're here now.
T.J.:You know we are really here now. It's honestly, it's been such a incredible season. We've had some highs and lows. We had some ups. We've had some highs and lows. We had some upsets. We had some teams who we thought were going to stomp the yard on the NFL and the NFL ended up stomping the yard on them. We had teams who have shocked us and we are in the Super Bowl with a team who has a chance to do something that no one has ever done in three peating, and you have another team who has the opportunity to stop that from happening, with a running back that has arguably the greatest running back season of all time.
T.J.:And no, I am not being facetious here Led by I'm going to just say it now because a lot of people are acting like he doesn't deserve to be in this conversation A top five quarterback in today's NFL, leading the charge, with one of the best defenses in the league, one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. I'm excited, man. I cannot wait. I put on my Kelly Green, I'm ready to go. Baby, let's go.
D.K.:Listen, listen, listen. As long as y'all beat Kansas City I'll be happy. Okay, like I said, I already got the messages this morning from my family up in Kansas City. Oh, it's Super Bowl Sunday. They start with me early in the morning. Okay, yep, that sounds about right. Oh, you too, tish, listen, look, I'm tired of them. Listen, y'all gotta beat them. Like I said we before we came on air, we was talking about this. Billy has a lot of emotion that riding with right now the incident that happened up there with the plane crash. You know people have lost their lives. You know the rebuilding process they talking about it's gonna take weeks to clean up. So, listen, y'all got a lot of emotion that y'all riding on y'all to bring back to that city and say, hey, we brought a championship here. All this tragedy just happened. We just brought a championship back to our city. And again, at least one bird is there. You know my bird sitting at home.
D.K.:So, man, I just hope y'all be can-seating, and if it sounds like I'm being biased, yes, I'm being biased, nah, man.
T.J.:I totally get it. Look I. This week has been so challenging for me because I've had a lot of people hit me up and they're like, what are you going to say about the game? Like, what are your thoughts? How's this game going to go? I'm like look guys, I have my show on Friday. I'm going to do something Super Bowl Sunday. Y'all can get on my nerves then. I am not saying a bad word about the opponent. I am not saying anything crazy about how the game is going to turn out. None of that until we get to Sunday. We're here. Now we are here now.
T.J.:You don't want to say nothing.
D.K.:I'm going to say something. I hope y'all beat the brakes off Kansas City. I hope y'all hit the brakes off Kansas.
T.J.:City. I hope y'all hit my homer so hard that y'all just send him on the sideline.
D.K.:Okay, listen, I am tired of Kansas City. Okay, I'm tired of all their tomfoolery. I'm tired of the refs taking them for them. I'm tired of it all. Okay, look, let these guys play the game. I hope y'all go out there and stomp on mud, hold them and walk that shit dry. Okay, listen, I mean, take them to town, get pressure on my homes, knock kelsey out the gate, all of it. I'll be for every bit of it as long as they don't win.
T.J.:Yeah and again if it's gonna be.
D.K.:If it's gonna be by, it's gonna be philly against the refs. Yes, sis, it sure is philly against the refs. Man, I again I want to see how many illegal formation calls they're gonna call on y'all today oh no, I mean, they're probably.
T.J.:They're probably going to try to be slick with the tush, push today probably, uh, more than ever. But, umoff, I think I have to say, as an Eagles fan, I'm very, very proud of the team and what they're able to accomplish this year and what they're going to do. Let me make sure I make this perfectly clear so no one's caught off guard here. Make sure I make this perfectly clear so no one's caught off guard here. What they're going to do tonight and beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. It's a testament to just the entire team.
T.J.:You got to remember this past offseason we got two brand new coordinators. This past offseason we had an all-time great at center retire and everybody was saying you know what? The offense is not going to be the same. The offensive line is not going to be the same. It's not going to be as good. We had drafted two rookie corners to start for us. Ultimately, we took a chance and paid a guy 13 million dollars to be our starting running back, who ended up having an all-time season, by the way, and uh.
D.K.:Thanks, new York. Oh my bad.
T.J.:Thank you, thank you. I'm telling you right now look, I got a little machine going on over here. I'm going to have to figure out some sort of jingle to make for the New York Giants. The tune might grow a little bit louder if Saquon wins MVP tonight. I am not going to lie to you, that would be the cherry on top, to be honest with you, just kiss. But it's just fantastic, man, it really is.
T.J.:You know, we all have had conversations and we talked about it all year long about Nick Sirianni and you know whether he deserves to be the head coach and all that other stuff. And it's been a battle all year long and it's like we've always been waiting for that other shoe to drop, if you will, and it hasn't happened yet. So I know a lot of people don't want to do it today. Regardless of what happens, nick sirianni, I will be the first in the field to do this.
T.J.:I gotta give credit where credit is due. You have found a way, some way somehow to weather the storm with everybody coming at your neck, even though you be coming down people's necks, to pause, if needed. No ditty, if you will, but either way, man, like just the fact that, as a head coach, you are able to weather all the noise with the media. That is Philadelphia. I got to admit, man, I got to give props where props is. Philadelphia. I got to admit, man, I got to give props where props is due. Fantastic, fantastic Hell of a season and it's going to end again.
T.J.:You cannot take anything away from it, with us winning a Super.
D.K.:Bowl, yeah, and I damn sure hope at the end of the night y'all holding the lombardi trophy open. I'd be like thank you, jesus, to stop this debacle of kansas city. You know, and again, the only 10 time they scored over 30 points was when they beat the bills all season, including the playoffs Yep, including the playoffs and they had some help with that. I mean, we all see the bias in this. That's what Kansas City, it's the whole New England thing. We all see it, everybody see it. Now, if your NFL commissioner is coming out saying the same thing and now the referee association is upsetting and outraged over him saying that, then there's a problem.
T.J.:There's a problem.
D.K.:They've gotten favorable calls all season long, all season, to get them back to the Super Bowl. Oh, don't touch Mahomes now. Don't touch him. As soon as you touch him, he's looking for a flag flag. What happened? Oh, oh, oh. Let's not forget the play where he was running out of bounds and slowed down to get the hit, trying to get a flag. Who pointed that out?
T.J.:troy acheman pointed it out, so why do you slow?
D.K.:down trying to draw a flat favorable. Ah, I'm tired of them. Go philly hey look what about?
T.J.:I'll say this too. Yeah, go philly. I will say this too. Um, if there is something that does go on our side for today's game, we can honestly say that we have been here before. Yeah.
D.K.:We have been here before.
T.J.:Different circumstances, different team, but we've been here before. But we've been here before. We were doing this back in 2017 against the legendary New England Patriots, led by Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, which in that year I'm going to let y'all in on a little secret the refs got a little bit involved in some of their games as well. Of course, of course, of course, we've been down this road before. Now you can definitely make the argument and I will we could have beat them the first go-around back in 22.
T.J.:But there was a guy who no longer is playing for us today, which I'm so glad that he's not who thought it was a great idea to not keep his hands to himself. One of the basic rules you were told back in elementary school keep your hands to yourself. Well, apparently this corner I am not going to say his name because it does not deserve to be mentioned right now decided it was a great idea to have a pass interference in the heat of the fourth quarter and it led to a score that we ended up not coming back from. So he's no longer on our roster, thank God. And this year you can make the argument that we have a better defense than we did in 22. And I am not going to lie, man, we got Saquon Barkley baby.
D.K.:That's going to be their problem. They have to stop Saquon. That's going to be their problem. You got to stop Saquon, so listen.
D.K.:I love when Derrick Henry was being interviewed, being interviewed, he said, well, who's your picks? He said none of them. He said I hope they're both. It was, it was just so funny, but I get it. He said I'm not here, yeah, so I don't care. But I mean I get it. But, like I said, to beat this necessary evil, go philly. Yes, I'm Go Philly. I'm tired of them. They need to be knocked down a peg, and this is the perfect place to have them knocked down a peg is in the Super Bowl, because remember when New England went that undefeated season, who beat them in the Super Bowl? Knocked them down a peg. The Giants Beat them in the Super Bowl for a perfect season. This is the perfect time for that to happen again. The perfect time for that to happen again.
T.J.:And ironically it would be a guy who you know. I was talking in a group chat yesterday and I said I want y'all to know that if the Eagles win this game tonight and Jalen Hurts is the MVP, I want y'all to understand that he is a top five quarterback in the NFL today. It shouldn't even be a conversation. You can put your Mahomes there, you can put your Lamar conversation. You can put your Mahomes there, you can put your Lamar there, you can put your Josh Allens there, you can put Joe Burrow there. That fifth spot better have and better end with Jalen Hurts. Okay. And a lot of people are like they're probably hearing me say this. They're like what, what are you talking about? Justin Herbert, dak prescott, uh, how about? Uh, matthew stafford?
D.K.:guys, let me let you in a little, but I mean, come on now, we already see all the bond. This is especially with the black quarterbacks. We, we see that, we, we, we all see that, we, we, we all see that, the bias that they have, all all that aside.
T.J.:All that aside, name me a quarterback who has been since he's gotten, since he's been in college, not not since he's been in the league since he's been in college that's had seven offensive coordinators since he's played quarterback.
T.J.:I will wait yeah, I will too, I will do, and I will do and and I think we really need to have those type of conversations, because I notice a trend there seems to be some sort of an excuse or a weak spot for everyone else that's in the top five, okay. Patrick Mahomes oh, he doesn't have to have a great year. He's already one of the best quarterbacks all time. So even if he throws 15 million interceptions, he's always going to be the best quarterback in the league bullshit. But whatever. Josh allen man you know sometimes he could be a little reckless, sometimes he could have some bad decision making, but you know it doesn't matter. You know he's still the second best quarterback, third best quarterback, depending on who you talk to in the league. Lamar Jackson man, we love this guy, we love Lamar. Playoff games come around. Unfortunately, his record is not the greatest.
T.J.:Joe Burrow oh, we love joe burrow. Led the league in passing, led the league in touchdowns oh my god, joe burrow, hey, um did. Did the bingles make the playoffs this year? Oh, oh, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, oh, I'm sorry, it's because he didn't have a defense. Okay, okay, it's because he didn't have a offensive line oh, that's what it is, oh, oh.
D.K.:But he can light the scoreboard up.
T.J.:Oh, oh. And then is Justin Herbert one of the best quarterbacks, the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. Justin Herbert, chargers, go, go, chargers. Didn't I see him, in a recent playoff game, throw four interceptions? Didn't that happen? That did happen. Right, that did happen, justin Herbert. But yet every single time there's a conversation brought up about Jalen Hurts you know, man, he's not really all that great. You know he doesn't throw over 150 yards passing he's. You know he's very inaccurate and you know he's just not very good. I just, I don't know about him.
D.K.:All the biasness. They do it all the time To all the black quarterbacks, all of them. It's a shame. It's a shame, absolutely, absolutely. But we'll talk about the MVP race on another note.
T.J.:Oh, no, no, absolutely. But I was saying that to say like, even back in 22, the amount of people that acted like Jalen Hurts did not deserve to be in the same conversation as those guys. Two years ago, when he had an MVP season two years ago, everybody was like trying to figure out is Dak Prescott still better than him After the year he had in 22? So I'm like, what are we doing?
D.K.:Prescott where's that Prescott? Better than anyone. I'm just asking that should have been out of Dallas, been gone oh god, I'm just.
T.J.:I'm just saying, like the converse, the discourse when it comes to jalen hurts over the years has drove me insane and I and I will say this too I am not a jalen hurts apologist. Okay, there are times where he stinks up the joint and I and I I had no problem being critical when need be, right last time, I the only thing I know about him, since he's been the starting quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles, is that his team wins, and his team wins often Every single year that he's been a starter of the Philadelphia Eagles Playoffs.
D.K.:To the point. Y'all are in New Orleans right now. Thank you, nobody else. Thank you, you else. Thank you, you and Kansas City. Y'all are that good that y'all are playing for the Lombardi Trophy tonight, tonight.
T.J.:Thank you.
D.K.:And I damn sure hope y'all win, I'm going to keep harping on this.
T.J.:I'm just saying, man.
D.K.:I'm showing my biasness. Yes, I want Philly to win. Okay, my team ain't there. But I damn sure no one can see the win Because I will never hear the end of this. All season, all the way up to football season starts again, I won't hear the end of this. Then, oh, we got another parade. I'm tired, I am Kansas City fatigued?
D.K.:okay, I am, and I just worked over the weekend and, of course, what am I seeing on the planes? Kansas City, kansas City, kansas City, kansas City, kansas City. When I texted you, I told you, I said, man, we got a whole bunch of Eagles coming back. I was like, yes, whole bunch of Eagles fans. I'm like, yeah, I said I pray, y'all beat them, pray, y'all beat them. I'm tired of them. They got to go. Somebody got to knock them down a peg. Y'all are the only savior left. Okay, of peg. Y'all are the only savior left. Okay, the only savior, only savior. And, matter of fact, I'm gonna give you a score 37, 34. Philadelphia.
T.J.:Okay, I'm giving, I'm getting wow I think it's gonna be a high scoring game 37, 34 philly okay, and I think sake, one's probably gonna be your mvp 37-34.
D.K.:Philly Okay. And I think Saquon's probably going to be your MVP.
T.J.:Look, I was telling my dad this the other day because he said the exact same thing. He says the Eagles win this game and Saquon wins MVP. And I told him him, if that happens, the whole conversation and everybody be like aren't we done talking about the Giants and Saquon Barkley? We're past it now aren't we I'll let you in on a little secret All offseason long I repeat, all offseason long You're going to be hearing the, the Giants and Saquon all season long. You couldn't pay this guy $13 million.
D.K.:But hey, I gotta go out and shout out to Sharon real fast, Sharon, happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you, Sharon. Yeah, happy birthday. Gotta give that shout out to her.
T.J.:Well, I'm giving her a birthday today.
D.K.:So, but man, let me tell you, like I said, as long as it's not Kansas City, I'm happy, as long as it's not Kansas City, hey. But we got two Steelers fans in here, Tish and now Sharon, oh God, and I think we can all agree collectively we don't want Kansas City to win this game.
T.J.:I mean, look man, again, like, we're kind of like. A lot of people, I guess, are not doing it now because, I don't know, they're just trying to give the giants a break. But here's the reason why this will last all off season long. Okay, it will last all off season long because, literally, literally it would be. It wouldn't even be a conversation if they fired the head coach Well, not even the head coach, because I don't even think the head coach is the problem. If they fired the GM and the owner stepped down One of the two, if either one of the two happened, I don't think this is any more of a conversation anymore.
T.J.:Okay, we would laugh about it. If he wins MVP, be like ha-ha, he got y'all fired, cool about it. If he wins mvp, be like haha, he got y'all fired, cool. It's the fact that them two are still in the giants headquarters today. They still have a job. He's still the gm, he's still the owner, he's still the head coach. None of that changed, even after the season he had. So so if Saquon wins MVP and the Eagles wins this game, oh my God.
D.K.:How do you keep them in? When do the Eagles win this game? When the Eagles? Nah, we not talking if when the Eagles win this game, they need to go down there and tear the fur off of them. Tear the fur off of them oh my god I mean first set. I mean just beat the bricks. Aj brown needs to go off, jaylen needs to be on on point saquon, just run amok to him, because when that defensive line starts getting tired, you can start taking more advantage of them. Mm-hmm, that's right, mm-hmm.
T.J.:And they better stop Chris Jones.
D.K.:Oh, I think we'll do, actually, I think we did a solid job last time. Tear the feathers, that's right. I mean tear the fur off of them, I mean stop on mud, hole them and walk it dry. That's the point I'm at. Uh-oh, I lost my boy. He'll be back in a second.
D.K.:Again, this whole, I'm Kansas City fatigued. If any Kansas City fans are on here, I'm not apologizing, because again, this is a problem, an anomaly that we have to stop, and Philly has the chance to do that. To stop this three-peat, to stop all this. Kansas City, oh, kansas City, we're the greatest of all time time. And blah, blah, blah, no, blah, blah, blah yourself up out of here. I'm tired of it, we're all tired of it.
D.K.:But again, like my sister said earlier, it's Philly against the refs and we're going to see how this is all going to play out. If it's going to be the illegal formations, is it going to be, oh, a fake pass, interference, call on offense. Come on now, give me a break or they just get in the way with calls. Oh, I didn't see that holding call. Look, we're tired. We want a great game tonight. We all want to celebrate, we all want to have a great game and these refs not get involved.
D.K.:Now again, if kansas city goes out there and tear the fair off of me, it's nothing I can do if philly can't stop them. But we all pulling for philly, we all riding for philly, especially the tragedies that happen up there. So they have a lot of emotion that they're going through up there. They're riding that emotion all way down into new orleans and they're gonna ride it onto the field and they're riding that emotion all the way down into New Orleans and they're going to ride it onto the field and they're going to ride it all the way to that Lombardi trophy and raise it and bring it back and unite that city up there Again with the incident that happened up there.
D.K.:Like I said, my thoughts and prayers was out to them for that. But Philadelphia Eagles has a lot of emotion with them. So I think it's going to be a different story motion with them. So I think it's going to be a different story. I don't think it's going to be a second time. The kansas city's going to beat them.
D.K.:But all the kansas city fans disagree with me. I've been battling with them all weekend about this, so trying to see if he's going to come back in here. But again, I made my picks for it. I said 37, 34. Billy wins the game. I think it is going to be high scoring and even though they both have great defenses, I just don't think they'll be able to completely shut each other down. So it probably will be a high-scoring game because you can't never count out Mahomes, whatever, even though he threw a whole bunch of picks this year. Hopefully he throws some picks in this game and that way, philly, just keep it going and as long as we don't have a fourth and one play and they talk about the tush push didn't work. Yeah, it'd probably be a ride down there in new Orleans, but again, that's my picks. I appreciate you. I appreciate it. I think he might've had some internet problems over there. I'm going to go ahead and jump off of here, but hey, listen had some internet problems over there.
T.J.:I'm gonna go ahead and jump off of here, but hey, listen, anybody tuned in? Thank you, oh, there he is. Wait a minute, let's see.
D.K.:Let's see there he is, he's back. Don't you tell me the league is trying to shut me down. Oh, they are. Yeah, absolutely. How dare they.
T.J.:Yeah.
D.K.:Oh my God, I want to get your two cents in here.
T.J.:Man, I was just saying man, like I was saying earlier, saquon winning MVP like will. I was saying earlier, saquon winning MVP like will. This kind of makes it ironic would be the equivalent of Kendrick Lamar's. It really would. Not Kendrick Lamar go where, every chance he gets of his opposition, every chance he gets, he's going to take so much pride, have so much fun with it, and I can't wait.
D.K.:I don't know what's going on here. Hey, listen, you have some difficulties over there, but that's okay, we're working through this. But I just got a text. I guess my auntie's watching. I got to give her a birthday shout-out too. So, happy birthday to my aunt. She was like, hey, where's my birthday shout-out? I didn't see you. Well, happy birthday to you, aunt. Because she was like, hey, where's my birthday? I was like I ain't see you. Well, happy birthday to you, auntie.
D.K.:So, but no, like I said, I hope y'all just go turtle, for I'm talking about from beginning to end just turtle for all of them. I hope Nick Sirianni just opens up playbooks, matter of fact, I wouldn't be mad if he did the whole New England thing and was taking people's plays and just using them Whatever it takes to beat Kansas City United. That's what we need to do, plain and simple. They need to be beaten. Oh, my boy then got cut off again. Tell you, boy, these Wi-Fi problems it's all good, but again I'm just going to go ahead and cut it off.
D.K.:But again, everybody enjoy the Super Bowl, no matter where you are. Like I said, I'm riding with Philly, even though my team's not there. I'm riding with Philly, anybody but Kansas City. But we're going to find out in a couple hours. We're going to jump back on here too and talk about the game. Also, we're going to talk about the halftime show too, because you know that's always fun. Anyway, I hope you tuned in. Thank you, we'll see y'all after the Super Bowl. Everybody enjoy the Super Bowl night and, like I said, make your picks, because it's going to be one hell of a game. Go Eagles.
