Shutdown Strain, Cena’s Farewell, And Choosing Love Over Pride
Bills don’t wait for politics to sort itself out. We open our hearts and our mics to talk about what a government shutdown actually feels like when your paycheck stops but rent, food, and gas keep ticking. No abstractions—just the weight of families doing the math, workers choosing between showing up for free or driving Uber to keep the lights on, and the frustration of watching leaders miss the one deadline that protects people from chaos.
We unpack accountability without party spin: why brinkmanship has become a ritual, how back pay doesn’t solve cash flow, and why empathy matters when it’s not your job on hold. We push the case for term limits and practical reforms that make shutdowns rarer and budgets boring again. And because life is more than stress, we pivot to joy: John Cena’s final run, the magic of a crowd that sings every theme, and the shared rush of seeing a legend close the book. That energy is fuel—it reminds us what community feels like when we show up at full volume.
From there, we get personal. Pride can cost you the chance to make things right, so we challenge ourselves to fix rifts now—call the person, drop the grudge, offer help. Sometimes the most radical act is a bag of groceries, a ride, or a simple “I’m sorry.” If you’re feeling the strain, you’re not alone. Hit play for straight talk on shutdown realities, fan love for Cena’s last ride, and a nudge toward grace at home. If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs it, and leave a review to help more people find the conversation. Your voice helps keep this community strong.
All right, what's that? And then good evening, everyone. Good evening. How's everybody doing this evening? I hope that everybody is having a great day. They had a great week, and everything's just going right with your life. It's your boy Damon, and I'm here with the DK and Tree Podcast. You know, like I said, whenever I had things I want to talk about, come on, talk about it. Haven't been on the minute, missed a couple shows uh as far as sports, work has just been wearing me out. And anybody that's trying to keep up with the football stuff, I do apologize, but work's just been wearing me out. Just haven't had a chance to do it. I haven't even had a chance to do my wrap-ups or my predictions. But I'm going to get back to it soon. But I definitely wanted to come up here, talk about a couple things because things on my mind. Come talk about it. Come talk about it to the family. Family, how are y'all doing? First thing, let's let's just jump on this off break, this whole government shutdown thing. Um, my hearts and prayers go out to anybody that's affected by this. I even have family members that's affected by it, and some close friends that's affected by it. And my biggest thing is that, and I say this all the time on different shows, whenever I come on and do my little rants or whatever about the your lawmakers, what are they actually doing for you? What are they actually doing to help benefit you? You all in this country, you all pay taxes in this country, and they just sit up there and they play with your lives like they're puppet masters, and you're the puppets, and they're just playing and they're playing and they're playing. No matter what side of the fence you're on, this should be despicable for everybody. Because nobody should right now be worrying about where their next paycheck is gonna come from. I have to come to work, but I'm not getting paid. People out here have families, people out here have lives, bills. That stuff doesn't stop because the government shut down. We can defer it or put it off for a little bit, but that stuff doesn't stop. And it's really, really sad that we're going through this, and your lawmakers up there still can't make up their mind about okay, we want a budget. Okay, we want it this way. Oh, this side said, oh, I want it this way. Oh no, this has to be in there, or that that doesn't have to be in there. Again, this whole thing is despicable, and you know, it's truly heartbreaking that y'all have one job to do once a year is to get a budget done so people don't go through this, but yet y'all can't, y'all at odds for whatever reason, and these people are being affected. Not to mention that people are already laid off, but people are also getting fired while they laid off. This is truly, truly, truly sad. And we're supposed to be the greatest nation in the world, the greatest nation in the world, and we sure ain't acting like it because we can't even help our own people. This is this is just again, sad, irresponsible. Anything you can think of that's bad, it's bad. It's bad. I can even go back to the pandemic, and um I say this all the time as much taxes as you pay in this country, as much taxes as you pay in this country, and those lawmakers up there fought over just to give you a one or two time payment of twelve hundred dollars. Again, much taxes as you pay in this country, and they're fighting just to give you that, that's sad. They should have fitted the bill for every American citizen, as much taxes as you pay in this country. Everybody shouldn't have to worry about you know, money, income, where the next paycheck would come from, just because they couldn't work or they was out of work. That it's sad, and this this just goes back to what's going on now a government shutdown. And we in what day 14 or 15 or something like that. And again, y'all have one job to do, one job to do, but yet again, your lawmakers they play with your lives all the time, and it's again, it's sad that we have to go through this every year that they say, Oh, it could be a government shutdown, oh, it could be this, oh, it could be that. When is this gonna end? When when are y'all gonna put a stop to this? Again, I've said this before power of the people, you all have to stand up to it. You all have to stand up to it and say, I'm not tolerating this. And you know, my thing with this is that if you don't like who is in office, get them out of there. I've always been an advocate that these lifers shouldn't be up there. If a president can only serve for eight years, why can't them people up there in Congress serve only eight years? Get them out of there. Because as you see with evolving times, they don't change with the times. A lot of people like the things in the old ways, and they want to do things the way things used to be, trying to just dial back time, and you can't just dial back time again. This whole thing is despicable. No one should be worried about where the next check is gonna come from, whether they're gonna have to move, be evicted, their lights will be out, they're not gonna have food on the table, they're not gonna have gas in the car. And it's sad that these people have to go to work. But see, what's gonna happen is again, if you look at the air traffic controllers, they gotta come to work without getting paid. If I had a choice where I had to go make some money and not get paid, now I'm gonna go make me some money. You won't see me. So with them calling out sick, have other options, that's fine. Now I got to do a little debate about this. Where someone said to me, Well, I just think they're being lazy. You just gotta call out sick. And I was like, wait a minute, how can you just call these people lazy when they don't know where their next check is coming from? I said, right now you're getting paid. You're getting paid because you're not in the federal government. So why is it fair that you feel as though that they're lazy because they're not coming to work? I said, Do you understand these people have bills too? Well, they're eventually gonna get paid. Well, how insensitive are you? That's very insensitive, very reckless out of your mouth for saying that. And I totally disagreed with the person because I was like, no, if it I had a choice to go make some money for my family, I'm gonna make it. And I was talking about the the surge and tick-up of Uber and Lyft just being out there right now. It's it because again, they gotta make some money, and they're going out to make some money, and I don't blame them to go make some money for their family. Because if I got a choice, I have to survive or I have to go in there, I'm gonna go survive because that's the best option for me and my family. You still got people out here living paycheck to paycheck, no matter how much money you make or whatever, you got people living paycheck to paycheck because shit is so fucking high around here these days. It makes no damn sense that we're in this the greatest nation in the world, and they work against us so much. Again, these re-elected officials just making all these laws or passing all this stuff or doing stuff for their own agenda, as we see. They do stuff for their own agenda. Again, I don't give a damn what side of the fence you're on, or which side that you um support, or whatever. Makes me no difference. I'm all for what's right, and right now this shit isn't right because these people are out of work and they got to worry about where their next check is coming from. How they're gonna put food on the table for their families or for their self or for their kids, the sacrifices they have to all make right now because them jackasses up there can't make up their minds. Yeah, that one weighed heavy on me. Way, weighed very, very heavy on me. But you know, I'm I'm gonna get off that little soapbox because, like I said, that one really weighed heavy on me. And for the simple fact is again, you have one job to do. One job. Once a year, create a budget so no one loses their job. But then while you that the kick in the face is is that oh, the government shut down, but I still lost my job. I got fired while I was pro. What sense does that make? Unbelievable. But again, we're the greatest nation in the world, right? Okay, all right. All right, let me let me let me let me liven this conversation up here a little bit now, a little bit more. So, my wrestling fans out there, you know, I'm a big wrestling fan, and um, I actually ran into um Bailey and really nice person. I love Bailey. I mean, really down to earth, whatever. And you know, she's really, really pleasant. But you know, for all my wrestling people out there, John Cena, his last match is Saturday night's main event, and it's gonna be in DC. And guess who's trying to go? This guy. I'm definitely trying to go see John Cena's last time. Um, me and Bestie Tree, we went to SummerSlam, one of the greatest experiences ever, even though I can only go for night two. I didn't go for night one, but night two. But like I said, that place went crazy when Cena came out there. I mean, the energy in that place was just off the chain, knowing this is his last ride, knowing this is his he's going out end of the year, he's gone. But that one Saturday night main event is his last time. So, anyone, hey, these tickets go on sale. I think this weekend, get your tickets to go see John Cena's last ride out. I don't know who he's wrestling yet, but I'm definitely gonna be there in the tennis. I don't care if I'm in the nosebleed seats, as long as I'm in there to see it, I am good, you know. Because I'm pretty sure the ringside tickets are probably gonna be an arm, three legs, and three paints of blood, and you know, probably gotta get uh an amputation that you know just give him just a for the ticket. But like I said, John Cena, his last ride. I mean, I've enjoyed every bit of it, every match he's been in, I've enjoyed, and he's really just turned it up with his tributes to everybody, even their wrestling moves, no matter what promotion they're in. It's really, really good. Um, Big Max John. That's what they call him, Big Max John. So I definitely want to be there. If anybody, hey, again, Saturday night's main event here in DC, he's gonna be there. Hey, come on, let's go send that man out or whatever. And you know, let's do the you can't see me. And when this theme moves are hit, we're all singing it. That's what I love about these overseas crowds. These overseas crowds put us U.S. crowds to shame, especially when it comes to wrestling. They love that it comes over there. The energy in the police is just amazing, and they're singing the theme songs as they're coming out. Us, we just we all low man over there. They're loud, they're they're jumping up and down, they're shaking the arena, the cameras are shaking. Oh man, especially Paris, Lyon, Lyon, France. Oh, they for AJ Styles, they lit that place up. I mean, they were shaking so much in there, the camera was shaking. I love it. But like I said, John Cena, he's going out. All right, one more thing I want to talk about. One more thing I want to talk about. Love your people while they're still here on earth. Love them, tell them you love them. You know, you get a lot of bickering. I talk about this a lot, bickering in families, and you get a lot of bickering, you get a lot of, you know, just people not, you know, we have disagreements, but to the level of saying I hate the person, that that's a really, really sad. And you know, I'm gonna touch on this because you should treat people good while they're here, because once they're gone, you can never apologize for it. And I've seen like like different things, different posts, or whatever. Bible tells us honor thy mother and thy father, tells you that all the time. And you got some people out here, and especially some of this young generation, boy, whoo, they don't honor anything, they don't even honor yourself. So, you know, you disrespect people, but yet when that person's gone, now you're crying. Now you're talking about, oh, I wish I could have got to say this, or I wish I could have got to say that. Well, I suggest that you amend whatever anger that you have in your heart, whatever animosity that you may have in your heart, whatever you may be feeling, get rid of all of that and just try to amend that with your family or with your friends. Because once that person leaves deserve, you can't take anything back. What you've done in your lifetime, what you may have done to the person, or what you make the person think have wronged you and you're gonna hold all this animosity, but then when the person's not here, now you the biggest one up here crying and boo-hooing. No, say it to the person while they're here. Because if you don't say it to them while they're here, it's too late when they're gone. So if you have any beats with anybody, squash that stuff. It's not worth it, it's it's it's not worth anything, and especially it's not worth someone's life, as we see on here, because people get angry and getting their feelings, then you know their feelings though. I went on alive here. No, it's not worth it, it's not worth it at all. So, again, try to love each other. Try not to listen, we all go through problems, but don't get to the point where you're not talking to the person, you hate the person, and all this other stuff. Sometimes that person may be struggling too, and just may need some encouragement, some words, maybe a hug, something, anything. But we get so in our feelings that we don't look to that, we don't say to each other, hey man, you know, I apologize to you. You know, I'm sorry I wronged you. You know, let's fix this from this point on, let's go forward. And I know this from experience, like the simple fact that again, I was angry with a lot of people when I was younger, angry, very angry, and I felt as though that I was always right, but I wasn't I was hard-headed, I was honoring, I was selfish, ignorant. You name it, that was me. When I was younger, I got older, I got wiser, and I had to amend some things with people, and I'm glad I did, because now that they're not here, I don't have that regret on my heart. But some people out there, they'll have that regret on their hearts. So, what I'm asking is that you all open up your hearts, stop having all this hate, stop having all this division, help someone because again, you never know who needs it, and especially the world we're living in now, and people don't have jobs. Help somebody even if it's giving them some food, help them with some gas money, something that somebody that's affected, your act of kindness goes a long way. A long, long way. But again, that's a couple things I wanted to talk about this evening. I hope that each and every last one of you have a great, great day. I'm gonna go ahead and sign off, and then like I said, we'll get together again. I'm gonna pick up my football stuff back in because uh I know you probably miss it. I do too. But work, like I said, has really been um having me bouncing all over the place. But I appreciate each and every last one of you that's coming here and listening to me. I love you all. Stay safe.
