At the Amethyst Academies Trust we value the importance of reading and developing the vocabulary and word skills for our students. We promote ‘word rich’ where vocabulary is taught and assessed, and students are given the tools to be resilient when they meet new words. We promote reading across the curriculum with the aim of developing fluency and understanding of a wide range of texts. The skills required to be fluent readers include decoding, word recognition, comprehension, interpretation and discussion of a range of texts which also encourages empathy, tolerance and self-awareness.
In our first episode we speak to Lauren Jones, Executive Director of Legal, Governance and Compliance about her role as school EVC (Educational Visits Co-Ordinator).
We discuss good practice when organising a trip and how to plan for the unexpected.
