Wait . Anyway , thank you for being a guest on our show . We're so glad you showed up . So for today's episode , melissa is going to be teaching a candle magic class upcoming on July 27th at Brachy Rock's Crystal Shop , and I wanted to talk today a little bit about candle magic , what it is , maybe some of the things you can do with candle magic . I know both you and Jake both make candles and everything . So , melissa , take it away .

So the class that I'm doing revolves around beeswax candles , and most of you know that I'm a beekeeper at this point , if not where have ?

you been . But beeswax is magical in its own right , like the Egyptians used a lot of beeswax for ritual , because they thought , I mean , they didn't understand how honey was made , so they thought that bees went to the other side to bring honey back . So for them , beeswax truly was a gift from the gods , as well as the honey , and it has like magical properties all in its own . It's also very clean burning , so you don't have to worry about toxins or chemicals , you know , while you're doing it . So these candles are going to be rolled candles .

So the idea with doing any kind of candle work , it's about intention and then releasing things that need to be released for your intention to come into being . So I'm going to be adding herbs . I'm going to have people just put their hands over , figure out what herbs go on their candles . So it's going to be like a sheet of wax , because I don't want to make a mess all over Tony shop and I'm like how would I make these farted ? You know , I'm asking them for help , like , okay , if you want me to teach us how am I doing this , so you roll it . So yes , that will work and then oils .

but there's going to be five specific things with the oil , like the first one . A little teaser but it's going to be the oil of you .

Like this oil , when you put your hand over it you don't get to look at the names . I have everything hidden . You'll get to see it after . It'll be the oil of what represents who you are in this situation . One removing blocks , one bringing things in on , one that adds like intensity to whatever you're asking for , whether it's releasing or needing something , wanting something , and then one that just kind of seals it a very high vibration , and then doing a little bit of sigil work , writing on the candle itself . I'm just gonna have people . You know , you don't actually have to see written ink , you can just write what you want , roll it all up and then we light it .

Are you gonna light it at the class ? I'm gonna leave that up to them . I did mine and mine broke the plate . Oops , so clearly it worked Powerful , yeah . So that's how I'm gonna be like yeah , put this in cast iron .

So , jay , I know you also do a lot of candle magic , so tell us a little bit about your practice with candle magic .

Oh , yeah , sure . So candle magic honestly , it's such a Swiss army knife of a tool , right . So you can use them like I think they call them what ? Chime candles , the short little candles like that yeah , you have the whole box up so you can use things . You can use the chime candles . Yes , I love those . They're so convenient for those kind of not quick spellcraftings or those quick intentions , but things that you feel you only need . I don't know , it's kind of hard to explain , like sometimes , kind of I'll focus on , you know , what am I trying to craft here , or what kind of energy am I looking to move here ? And if it's something that I feel I can just accomplish with one little chime candle rolled with some herbs and some oils , I'll do that . You know , sometimes I'll pull out a card from a tarot deck that's going to coincide with what I'm trying to kind of manifest here . So you can use them in that sense . I love to work with jar candles , so using jar spells and then also a candle on top of it , it's like a double edged spell . That one's really fun for me . So I use them for a whole bunch of things , right . So you can use them for banishing , you can use them for charging .

For me , in my candle practice , I'm always a big believer in having a working candle . So for any of our listeners who might not be familiar with what that means , a working candle is essentially a candle that you've made with your team , right ? So any deity that you work with your guides , the higher self , assembling all of that energy and the intention is to kind of be like the main bonfire that all the rest of your candles are then crafted through , right so we're channeling the energy of that fire , the element of fire , and also channeling kind of everything that you and your spirit team are . So , essentially , whenever I make candles or whenever I'm doing spell work across the board , honestly , even energy healings I always work with my working candle at first and that kind of sets my space , right . So it's almost like setting up a circle , clearing the space , charging it , bringing in all the whole team for you . That's just one of the really fascinating aspects of candle magic , right ? So the whole idea of working candle and then kind of sharing that flame on it's almost like a lineage , right , Like a family tree with all the other candles that get born from it .

Yeah , I love it that way so you can really use it for anything . You can use it for your personal work , people who are looking to just kind of get out of a funk , you can use those candle spells , you can use those little chime candles . For me personally , I really gravitate towards those seven day candles . Seven day candles are the prayer candles that you'll find in church . You'll usually find the big white ones , but you can also find , you know , when you go to the market or the witchy store red , yellow , green , whatever reflects for you . I think white is just it's cheaper sometimes . So use whatever you want .

But I really love seven day candles for when we're really trying to move through something energetically that we really feel like it has taken a long time to build up to , or , let's say , we're looking to really peel back a layer that we've been holding on to for many years now , something a part of our story or something karmic that we're holding on to or trying to learn through .

I'll use a seven day candle and I don't even burn them for seven straight days or anything like that . I like to kind of take it in moderation , right , because I like to kind of avoid some of that jarring experience that can happen when you're trying to just burn through something so quick . Maybe we're not ready to work through all of that right now . Maybe we're not ready to peel back every single layer tonight , but I might be in the next couple of days if I just burn it slowly but surely in bite-size increments . That I'm ready to do right . There's just lots of different ways that you can use it and there's really no incorrect way to use candle magic that it exists in every culture . It's across time .

I think , the biggest thing , every single person . I would be shocked if there is one listener that has never done candle magic , because if you've never had birthdays on your candles on your cake and made a wish right , I mean we've all done that . So , Jake , how do you feel about the ? There's kind of two thoughts . Some say that you shouldn't blow your candle out because you're blowing away the wish , so I do usually pinch it or use the candle snuffer , but I didn't know if you have different thoughts on that .

So okay , yeah , so it really is . I think it's up to your kind of , your framework , right . How do you kind of take a look at blowing out a candle ? Does that look like you are smothering a flame or does it look like you're trying to ward off that magic ? For me , I do kind of enjoy using a candle snuffer , or I will use my fingers if I'm feeling a little crazy and kooky and I do kind of like that . But for me , I come from the perspective of it's very ceremonial for me , right . So when I use that candle snuffer , for me it's more of like a cherry on top . Okay , I'm ending this ceremony , I'm putting a close to it . Now , if you blow out your candle and you feel in your heart of hearts that that's not negatively impacting your craft , I think that's totally fine . It really just does come down to how you're honoring those spirits or how you're honoring your craft . If you feel in your gut that you shouldn't be blowing it out , then don't blow it out , girl .

You know , it's really tricky because it's so abstract and it's so freeform , but at the same time you have to listen to what your spirit is telling . You is right .

No right way to do any of this , and if anyone ever tells you that there's only one way , you should probably think about who you're listening to . Your advice .

Right . I'm even specific with Because for me candles they just feel good . You know , when you have that dark room in your candle it almost lets you in that space . But I even like to just use matches when I light my candles . I like that because I feel like it's being more with the earth , if you will , because it's using like a piece of wood . I don't use those with anything . If I'm trying to just do like self-love stuff and I light a candle , I don't , because I don't want to add the sulfur part to that . And I've also found , like when I've done house clearings , because I always light my spirit candle first . This was when I first started I would bring a lighter and my lighter wouldn't work because it's mechanical and they can mess with that . They're like uh-uh you can't get it out of here .

I know there is something very funny that I found in . Just like my personal work , I went away from lighters really early on and I really enjoyed . And again , maybe it's just you know the inner theatrical lover of me . But I do love to have those long matchsticks to light my candles . Number one , because it's just hard to light seven day candles with a clicker . It snuffs out the gas , but I don't know . I think there's something so magical about lighting a candle with an existing flame .

Do you see like Jake as a previous life , like as this lady with like big , long nails ? Oh my , God . You just see , jake is like let's go lighters , it's just yeah . But that long like yeah , it's like that long like mm Cruella Falling yeah .

That's what I'm saying , like for something like your craft really will just will come so organically for you . Like , follow the way that your gut is telling you , because I'm telling you . I feel like that when I'm lighting my candles , when I'm at my altar doing my work , I feel like I've got the long nails , the cloaks , the you know .

No , 100% , and I just think that . So in my practice , fires just really something that I really associate very closely with my ancestor work , with my spirit work , all of that stuff , and it makes me feel just very connected with those before me and ahead of me , right , so for me I really gravitate towards the candle magic . Some people might not feel as strongly , they might opt for something like sigils or , you know , I don't know something else witchy .

I think it's just a way when your hands are busy . So one of my favorite quotes that I use for all aspects of my life is tell me , I remember , show me I forget , involve me , I understand . And when you are part of doing something for yourself and putting that intention in with the action of creation , you really are like upping your , your game , if you will , for what you're trying to bring or do with your life . You know , and that's why this candle is , sometimes we really want things to come , but something has to be let go of first . So it's going to be all of that into one thing , you know , and it is really . It's healing , it's emotional .

You know , when I made mine , I was , I was crying because when I looked up the symbolism of the oils that I picked , it was , I could not have even thought to choose those . They were so perfect for what I was trying to let go of
