Hello, hello. Welcome to the Economy Podcast. Episode 291. Hope y'all doing good tonight. How's it going, Larry?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, doing well. Weather's warmed up just a little bit here. I think we're in the low 50s today, so can't complain too much.
SPEAKER_02:Can't complain. We're both we're both exhausted. I'm just gonna get it out in front right now. Just throw it out there. Larry was up till 12:30 and got up at five. I did get a full night of sleep, but I was drinking it at a concert. So so we're we're in rough shape. So don't take any offense if we if either of us yawn because um we feed off each other. So and we make each other laugh. Yeah, yeah. That means you know that means that we have an emotional connection. That is what it says. If someone makes you yawn. So um, so yeah, anyways, thanks for joining. Uh, Patreon, peeps, Samson, Bud, Omar, Frank, Tom, Jim, Miguel, Linda, Jerry, Faith, Metal Kickass, and Anna. Thank you guys supporting the show. If you would like to support the show, go to patreon.com slash the gig econ podcast. You can join there. Wanted to share a couple of pictures. Tom had sent me. Uh we he said he had listened to the show. We're talking about stats. So let's let's check out this. Is one of our Patreon. He's been uh members and um gets after it. This is so this is his uh, I think this is Lyft. Yeah, this must be Lyft. Um so this isn't even the the the great one. 4,135 rides and 5.0 rating, 9.3 years.
SPEAKER_03:Platinum driver.
SPEAKER_02:Platinum driver. Get on this one 30,275 rides. Yeah, 30,275 rides over nine and a half years, um, and then six hundred and fifty-three deliveries looks like I might have him beat on deliveries.
SPEAKER_03:Um I'm about even with him on lift, but he got me hammered on over. Yeah, that's why I tell what his main main uh program is.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, and Tom, he's a great guy. Uh yeah, we love Tom. He's been up to Grand Rapids once or twice or whatever, but yeah, that dude fucking puts in some miles. So he does, yeah. Um, yeah, thank you. Uh thanks, Tom, for being a supporter, too. It uh means a lot.
SPEAKER_03:So yeah, and uh before we go any further, before I forget, just want to throw out a big happy birthday to the OG, Mr. Jesper. Is it a birthday today? I believe it's his birthday. It says it always on Facebook anyway.
SPEAKER_02:Damn, I was on Facebook all day. I expect um them to friggin' tell me that shit, but I'm pretty sure it is. Do I have it in my calendar? Let me see.
SPEAKER_03:It is Yesper's birthday. Yeah, it is. I just yeah. Uh he he he doesn't slum down and listen to us anymore, but you're gonna say happy birthday to him anyway. He was one of the original hosts of the show and uh great guy, good friend. And uh if he happens to hear this, just know that we're thinking of you.
SPEAKER_02:You know, I did talk to him. Um, he did say he does peek in from time to time, just doesn't always comment.
SPEAKER_03:Well, good, yeah. Well, hopefully he'll hear this then.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, he probably won't, but I'm just saying he does he does say that he uh he does peek in every once in a while. So okay. I do have stories from the road, but these aren't actually driving stories. But I did actually work last week. I don't I can't recall anything that stood out for me as far as like anything that would be a story that I would like to tell. But I did take Ubers last night, uh, because I was drinking and being responsible. So I went downtown, the Uber down there, uh, had a lot of rides. Um, I think I may have shared it in the chat, but had a lot of rides. Uh dude drove real fast. Uh real fast. Yeah. And really loved to tailgate.
SPEAKER_03:Oh man. Like that.
SPEAKER_02:No. Um, and he was wearing a mask. This is not, I don't care about that, but I had trouble hearing him speak. And that's because I would think it was K95 or whatever it was, and was just, you know, whatever. It's uh it's totally fine. But um, yeah, so he drove really fast, um, but had him out and everything like that. So I didn't read I didn't say anything about that. I was just like, whatever, you know. My friend that I went down with, she was like, Oh, I liked it because it, you know, he's zipping through town. I was like, Yeah, but you know, I don't know. I felt uncomfortable. So whatever, we get down there. Did we die? No, we didn't. Uh so I tipped him$3. And then uh on the way back, got somebody that was fresh on Lyft. They had the cheaper price. You know, we talk about this, right? Shop shop around Uber was$12 more. So I went significant. Significant. Yeah, and it was a surging time, you know, it was out of the concert. And so this guy had like less than 200 rides. So he picks us up. Uh it's interesting, the car color did not match the car. So I double-checked the plate. Uh, plate was fine, it matched. So we get in, no phone mount. No, no, yeah, that's like red flag. And was driving again fast. Like on my street, they uh did a road diet. We used to have two lanes one way, two lanes the other way, no turn lane. So they did a road diet, which I hate, so now it's one way, one way, center lane. And someone who was slowing up front of turning right, now, mind you, it had snowed during the concert. Like, and so there was snow on the ground. He goes into the left turn lane to pass this person, and like that is my biggest pet peeve. Like, if you can't wait for fucking two seconds, so and then it's in that center lane, it's snow. Like the main road was just wet.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, there's still snow there because nobody's riding.
SPEAKER_02:Driven in it, yeah. So he kind of got squirrely and had to lock him up. Wow, so I did rate him a three-star. I still tipped him. I understand. Like, you're if you're out there and taking rides and you feel bad, like you're you're welcome to tip, but always just you know, rate him low and then report. So I reported, put a comment there, no phone mount. Then I get a like a notification like 10 minutes later. Do you want to call, do you want us to call you a chat with you immediately? Like they were like they wanted they were on top of it, whether it be automated or not. They wanted that customer service there to make sure that I was okay. Um, and I put no, there were three options chat, phone, or no, we don't need to. And I was like, I'm fine, you can email me for any follow-up uh that you need. So interesting time. I I I'm not a huge fan. Like, I haven't taken Ubers since Nashville, but we were all together, so I don't know why I felt more safe. Yeah, I don't know why. We all could still die in a crash. Yeah, yeah, could die just as easy. That's although mind you, I last night, my friend, she did not buckle. I buckled both times. I'm like, I'm not no dummy. I I don't know.
SPEAKER_03:No, I only yeah, I only I don't care who I'm riding with, I buckle up, man. Yeah, just always but that's so funny that they were they were like ready to call you. Like when you when you want to get a hold of them, man, you can't get a hold of them. But remember, I'm a I'm a customer. I know, I know. So that's what's different. That's the difference, you know. Yeah, so is he holding his phone? No phone.
SPEAKER_02:So he he had it down um like what was a car? It was a Chevy Equal.
SPEAKER_03:Waiting on a console or something, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:But it was low.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, because you're looking down.
SPEAKER_02:Well, and I did notice he was missing turn, like not quite missing turns, but they were he they were he was stopping short. Yeah, and then of course he had my friend gave him shit. He was listening to me. We were it was like Bad Bunny or on, and my friend likes Bad Bunny or whatever. And then he had the navigation cut into the song. He's like, Yeah, I can't figure that out or whatever. And I was like, Okay.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, you can turn that off.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Definitely a noob. So yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Um, and they said all those things that we did. Well, I never did the no phone thing, but I remember for the long, you know, for a while I had the navigation, you know, where it would be navigation, then I was like, what am I doing here? I don't need this, you know.
SPEAKER_02:No, no, yeah. I always hated uh when I would switch phones. Um, if I use my Android phone for Uber or my iPhone, it'll reset the um settings and they'll start talking about what the fuck me.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, where did the yeah you it catches you unexpected? Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02:What is that? Yes, so uh yeah, that was interesting. So, you know, I mean I wanted to order comfort, but I knew I didn't, I was being cheap as much as I could. I wanted to order comfort though, but it it was it was like 10, 12 bucks more per ride. I was like, ah fuck it, we'll just roll the dice. Yeah, but like if Megan and I go anywhere, it's comfort. Like we're we're buying comfort just because it just you do it's a better experience.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, usually, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:So all right, gig economy in the news. Uber is in hot seat. Um after, you know, we've talked about this a a lot, but in this article, I was uh surprised they're in the hot seat after probe finds finds violent offenders were cleared to drive, which we've heard off and on, right? Sure. Uh the Times recently reported uh in 22 states that Uber had to approve drivers convicted of other serious crimes such as child abuse stalking assault, as long as the conviction convictions were at least seven years old. This is this stat's crazy. From 2017, and I don't remember us talking about this, to 2022, Uber received a report of sexual assault or sexual misconduct on an average of every eight minutes.
SPEAKER_03:No, we haven't talked, we haven't mentioned that. No, I didn't think that's so total 24 hours a day. Every eight minutes. Right, yeah. I mean, think about it around the world, you know. It's yeah, it's always happening. It's all just gonna, but yeah, that that's that's just so crazy to think of that. That's how many people that is. Right. Uh that's just ones that are reported. Right? How many of those are how many of that would you know go unreported? A lot.
SPEAKER_02:Yes. Uh the report also revealed that they permitted drivers to continue operating with the company after receiving complaints from riders and only ban them after serious allegations were lodged. I'm like, okay, so what, like he raped me? Yeah, you know what I mean? Or he Where is that line? Yeah, where is that line? So, okay, so then this is this is interesting. So, in light of growing public concern regarding passenger safety, Uber is planning to change their policies to ban individuals convicted of violent felonies. Okay, good, good job. Yeah, child or elder abuse and endangerment and sexual offenses for driving from the company, regardless of when the crimes occurred. Which I mean, I think that's good, right?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I mean, it's you know, it's it's a it's always uh you know, there's always some gray in there. You're like, man, what if you know what if this guy you know had some kind of something he did 30 years ago, you know, it's it's tough to say, but you're certain if it's you know it's sexual assault or something like that, yeah. I don't think they should ever ever drive, you know, violent felony. Yeah. If the guy, you know, if it was a non-violent felony that happened 15 years ago, I don't care.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, even a simple assault, like you know, and and maybe they need to change the the year amount. Like maybe if you know, if it's it's 20 years for these, and if it's older than that, then it's fine. Because I get it too. Like it this job as a driver, you do have an opportunity to kind of turn your life around a little bit.
SPEAKER_03:Like yeah, yeah, it's something you can get in, you know, most people can get in fairly easy. Uh you know, you have to have a car, but you know, there's you don't have to have any really any training or you know go to school or anything like that. So there's it's a pretty low barrier to entry. And yeah, if I you know I think I'd be okay with that if they extended it out. And again, you know, certain felonies, certain things, never, but but other things I think for sure the the any kind of sexual assault.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, that's like that's a no sorry. That should not even be the seven years. That should be from here on out. Because that you know, if if someone makes a mistake, you know, I um 25 years ago I got in a fight at a bar, came out, grabbed my crowbar. That's felonious assault. Yeah, you know what I mean. Now, obviously, if he killed the guy, I mean you know, but if he got in a bar fight, like he shouldn't be penalized. But here's the thing that's a that was a poor decision, right? The sexual assault stuff typically is a pattern of that that continues on. There's not a lot of fixing.
SPEAKER_03:That's not a one-off, yeah. That's not usually a one-off thing.
SPEAKER_02:Right, right. So yeah, I think that part's super important. But I I'm glad that they've made a statement about it and say they're gonna change it. You know, of course, there's no timeline for that. But I I think it's I think it's a step in the right direction. I mean, I gotta I mean it it took an expose for Uber to like fucking do something about it, but at least they might be.
SPEAKER_03:That's with any company though. I mean, for the most part, yeah, you know, a lot of them are not proactive about things like that until somebody says, Hey, why aren't you doing something about this? You know, right. Yeah, that's true. And there's always gonna be, like I said, pros and cons, and and you can look at things both ways, and you're never gonna make anybody happy. You know, some people are gonna say you should just if you've ever been convicted of felony, you should never be allowed to drive. Right. Yeah. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Um it's just two things that sexual assault case and you know that that they won. I mean, not that Uber, but the the plan they won or that woman one or whatever it was. And this, but I think we're gonna see some movement in the next year about safety.
SPEAKER_03:Sure.
SPEAKER_02:Whatever that is.
SPEAKER_03:So yeah, I don't know what they will do, or you know, we've tried to figure it out many times. Uh there's only so many things they can do. Uh uh, but yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see some things changing in the next you know, 12, 18 months.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, and that's it's it's gonna be for the good. I mean, of course, like you said, he can't make everyone happy. They might never they you know, drivers. You know, if if Steve was in here, he'd be bitching up a storm about it, and that's fine. Like, that's that's his jam. And like he's I don't know when he's gonna be satisfied. And I think the last time I was on, I did talk to him about that, and he didn't have a lot either. Like, I mean, I know that's not his job. We're not right, you know, we're not in the bit, we're not like engineers or anything like that. It's just you know, it's it's tough to know what to do. You want to keep the business, you want to keep things going, but you want to keep people safe, and what does that take?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Uh Larry, Uber's hundred million charging bet. Um, I'm interested to hear about this. I I love the EV talk. I know due to the administration change, things have moved around a little bit on that, but it's still a it's still a big thing, and it's still gonna be here forever, I think.
SPEAKER_03:So yeah, and you know how how things go. But uh we'll have another administration change in a few years. Uh, you know, possibly, possibly things will swing back the other way. Uh if not next one, you know, eventually it will. Yeah, we we just know they're not going away, that's for sure. So yeah, it's uh Uber's gonna partner with uh some some other companies with uh one called Evigo, Ionity, and uh some other networks, they're gonna build out a charging station network. They're gonna invest$100 million to build out some you know public fast charging stations across the United States and Europe. Um you know, they're doing this because they're you know they've been pushing electric cars for a long time. Uh and you know they they state that you know the fact that a city really can only move toward autonomous cars and electric cars if they have the right infrastructure in place. Of course, you know, most places don't right now. Yeah. So yeah, they they plan to roll out a thousand DC fast charging stations uh um in starting out in New York, LA, Boston, San Francisco, uh, and then London, uh, Paris, Madrid. Um so yeah, you know, big cities across the United States, big cities around the world. The first ones uh first managed sites are gonna open in the Bay Area, which is where they they start a lot of their stuff since they're located out there. And so many of their you know, charging stations are probably gonna be located at the A V depots where they already have operations going. You know, they have fleet operations there where they clean their autonomous cars, they do maintenance inspection on the cars and things like that. So yeah, you know, they're they're really pushing for autonomous cars and for the electric cars. Um so yeah, they're gonna need these high-speed charging places wherever they want to roll out those fleets, you know, wherever they want to have a huge autonomous presence.
SPEAKER_02:So I did see someone spotted a Hyundai, a Waymo that had a Waymo Hyundai. Yeah. So they're they're starting to bring out car because you know, we talked about this before. They're gonna they're gonna have to do that, right? They can't be pumping out jags. And I would I would assume their whole point is selling those to the public. Like this is this is just a baby step. Like they're they don't want to be a ride share company. Right. I don't think. I mean, I think they want to be we sell you a Waymo, and it, you know, you get on our six subscription plan, and you know, we do the we do we fix things, and like it's like a basically a car company, you know, like Tesla, but but the Waymo aspect of it. And so I mean, I don't know if you agree with that or if you think that this they're just gonna do the the rideshare thing. I don't know, I don't I've not read anything about it. I just kind of think that's what it's gonna be.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see how it all plays out. But yeah, I I I wouldn't argue with you on that.
SPEAKER_02:I mean, I I'm not saying they won't do both. I'm just saying I would think the end goal would be to sell a Hyundai to Joe Blow for 30 grand and then another 20 grand for the the self-driving part of it, then plus some subscriptions and all that other bullshit. Sure. So we'll see. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03:It will be interesting.
SPEAKER_02:The one thing I do it it is bothering me about these all these fast chargers and stuff like that, is like the cost isn't basically the same as a as a gas car now. And I'm like, that's the point of me. I mean, it's not because I can charge at home, but like it really discourages like what's the point then? I might as well get a hybrid.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah. And I think hybrid sales are are really doing well.
SPEAKER_02:They've always done well.
SPEAKER_03:Um, I would love to have a hybrid Camry or something. Um yeah, you know, that was uh that was a big point or a big reason many people that that moved electric cars did. And you know, now now the only thing you can really say is, well, you know, it's it's the green aspect of it.
SPEAKER_02:Well, I mean, let's be like, I want it to be green, but like isn't there stats out there that says that you have to drive that car for five or six years to like offset the carbon footprint to to mine the battery shit and stuff. I got it to save money, and it it does when you charge at home. There's there's no lie about that.
SPEAKER_03:You the no one can argue with me that it's yeah, until they build you know a few data centers near your house and you're shut your mouth he shoots to the roof.
SPEAKER_02:No, that's not then you better you bet you know everybody talking, oh fuck solar, fuck solar. You you better not say that. You better get on board. Yeah. Um, all right. Next up, we talked actually about this on the Patreon last week. And if you're a member, you already know about this. But uh, I found an app called the Crew Home app, and we talked about it at length. But basically, what it is, and it is in my area, and I did sign up and I've literally got nothing. It is a um a company that if you own uh Virbos or Airbnbs, I think the biggest issue is one of them is getting the trash out to the road on the day you need. So, yeah, you got a cleaning crew there, but okay, they're here on Monday. Let's say someone left. Friday, trash doesn't come. You don't want it to sit out at the road all week. So this basically is what this company does does. They hire, you know, gig workers like us. Um, what did we say? It was like$50 a month for two cans per week, two visits per week, um, or you can do it 65 to get four cans, so on and so forth. Um, if you want to sign up for it, uh just go crewhomeap.com and uh that's all we know about it. But I I kind of like it.
SPEAKER_03:I yeah, man, if there's if you lived in a uh uh somewhere where you know people really vacation a lot, like Gatlinburg or you know, some kind of beach town, something like that, where there's tons and tons of Airbnbs, man. If you could you could clean up on an app like this.
SPEAKER_02:Oh my gosh, yes. I mean, you could have a full day's work.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah. Just going and you know, uh park your car, you know, say say, you know, do ten houses on one side of the street and come back ten down ten houses on the other side of the street or something. Yeah. Manage to be able to do that. You can make some pretty decent money, I would say, pretty easy and uh pretty quickly. So what did we ever talk about what the driver got paid for that? Because I did I don't think it I don't think it told. You know, I d I don't think it did either. I you know it was. They just told the, you know, we looked on their website and saw what it cost the customers, but I don't I don't remember it divulging what how much of that the person would make.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I'm just going to register as crew. Um and it was very quick. It it connected my stride account. So like um that's how we get paid. But yeah, I don't think I I would have to go back into the app, but I'm um I got my phone on TikTok right now, so I can't do that. But but I'd have to check. I don't remember them um saying how much because yeah, I guess if it's two dollars a bin, I mean, I don't know. I mean, but it's so easy though, that's the thing.
SPEAKER_03:Especially, like I said, if you could do a bunch in one area, like a neighborhood, a cul-de-sac or something where you could just park and you know, go down and hit a bunch of them and then walk back to your car, you know, that would be great. But if they're all spread out, you know, it's is it it, you know, it's gonna have to be a certain amount to make it worth going out there. You're not gonna drive all the way, you know, 20 minutes one out somewhere just to do one can.
SPEAKER_02:So are you like what is your what is your money amount? I know let's just say it's five miles from where you where you live. Like that's the thing too. Like it's kind of gotta be where your home is.
SPEAKER_03:Like Yeah, I mean, you know, we we we all a lot of times we revolved around the dollar a mile. So you know that sucks. Yeah, not a bad, not a bad place to stick.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, yeah, I can see that. But yeah, we'll see. I'm I'm hoping I I bet I'm gonna be driving around one day. I'm gonna get a fucking notification and scream. Like, I'll be recording.
SPEAKER_03:You're like, what the hell?
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I'll be on I'll be on Telegram this middle of summer doing gig work talking to somebody like, what the fuck? I just got a trash notification.
SPEAKER_03:Uh that'd be funny. Uh um I'll have to look it up, see if it's going. I don't I don't know if it's going in bowling or not. Probably not.
SPEAKER_02:So it is uh hang on.
SPEAKER_03:Let me I think I looked at the states. I think it was in Tennessee, but not Kentucky.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, let me bring it up. Um yeah, Tennessee, uh, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, faith, North Carolina, John, Ohio, Oregon, or Oregon, however you say it, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. So quite a few states, but yeah, but honestly, like for me, I guess being close to the bigger city, I'm sure there's a ton of Airbnbs down there. Like we don't even know about they're just r random apartments. You know what I mean? Yeah. Um, but yeah, I would definitely do it. You know me, I'll try anything.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah. I mean, it's good, it's you know, it's fun. I mean, one, it's you know, it's good content for the show, so we can talk about these new apps and you have somebody that's actually done it. Uh uh, well, I think we lost Jason.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I'm here. I don't know what happened. I don't either, but I just said lost connection. Fuck me.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, I was just saying, it's you know, it's good to have somebody that uh you know, just we signed it's good for us to sign up for these things, and and if we can actually try it and do it at some point, that's even better because then we can talk with a little bit of you know experience and knowledge. But we always it's always good to have the apps, you know, as many apps as you can get.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, speaking of that, I um you remember I did hop skip drive, and that's like our most not most popular ever, but like very popular with that because I think people want to know, and I and I don't know if it was a separate video. I think it was. I think maybe I did like a short on it or something. But yeah, they want to know. Like it's like, hey, I tried dot dot dot today. This is my feedback, and so yeah, I want to try it because I want to let you guys know if it's bullshit or if it's legit.
SPEAKER_03:So yeah, people love those videos. I mean, I know if you know if we ever see anybody who's done, you know, does a video about an app that we've not heard of or haven't tried or something, I always watch it and just to hear what they have to say.
SPEAKER_02:Always. Well, do you see do you do well because you want it well for once for the show, but two, like, oh, this sounds fun.
SPEAKER_03:Could yeah, is this worth is this gonna be worth my time? Is this something I should take the time to sign up for?
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. But you always got, I feel like, um, I feel like we need to disclaim right at the beginning of the show. All markets are different. Your market is not you know what I mean? Just like because it truly is, like it could it is, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:It could be worth nothing here, you know. Yeah, I could get no business. And but if you're in a like I said, a really you know, vac hot vacation spot, you know, like Gatlinburg and or or something like that, where there's just so many, you know, cabins, uh thousands of them, I'm sure, uh, that you could probably do a lot of business there.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, it's where Faith wants to go. We're we're changing the s the hangout spots. Now we're going now we want to.
SPEAKER_03:I mean, nothing's been decided, but no, but nobody something like nobody wants to go to Clearwater.
SPEAKER_02:No, that's fine. I'm I I'm going with the flow as long. You know me, I'm bougie. I'm not gonna sit in this stay in a shack, but I'll go to any place in the country. So I don't care. I don't care. I know you don't care. All right, Life 360, which I use uh I pay for it every year with my family, and Uber announced a new integration to help families stay connected on every trip.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I know I don't uh I've not used Life 360, but I know lots of people who do. Uh you know, some good friends of mine use it and uh really enjoy it and like it. And so yeah, Uber and Three Life 360 has made it where you can link your accounts, you can live your your Life 360 and Uber account together, including the Uber teen account. So they're trying to make it easier for parents uh and the you know their teenagers to coordinate rides, helps the parents you know stay informed in real time. Uh they're already using three life 360 to kind of see where the kids are going. Um so yeah, they're trying to as always, you know, they're trying to create a one-stop experience. They're trying to keep you in their app as long as they can, uh, just like all the other apps do. Uh it says new integration is going to be coming out later this year um as part of the company's renewed partnership. And will evolve over time as Uber and Lite 360 collaborate on even you know even more um integration. So yeah, like I said, uh uh my best friend uh he he him and his wife and kids have used Light360 for a while, so I've seen it in action. Um it's just not something that I've ever used personally. But again, another way for them to try to keep you in the app.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I mean the light three sixty is great.
SPEAKER_03:I um I've always I've heard great things about it.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, it's it's relatively accurate. Um and I what it's what I really like about it is it tracks speed for your driving kids. Right. And so like now it's not always accurate on the speed. I found that out a little bit. It's close. I mean, it's within three to five miles an hour. Yeah. Because I tested it. Because my I was getting after my daughter, and she had a friend of hers doing 80 on the highway, and I'm like, can't do that. Can't fucking do that. Well, he wasn't, you know, he was only doing 75, and I was like, okay, but that's still fast. Y'all are young drivers. Um, and so I I I watch that like you know how many times, you know, she's 18 now, but like I she's still under my roof. She's I still pay her car insurance and her phone bill. So like you still gotta be careful. And she's a great driver, yeah. Like, don't get me wrong, but you know, I I use that feature more than anything. Um, you know, and then I think my kids use it um to track where mom and dad are. Yes. And they're like, hey, you went to Panera. Yeah, it didn't get us anything. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03:So they track you so they know when to stop the party at the house.
SPEAKER_02:Right. I told Megan, like, next time we go out to eat, we need to like just turn our locations off.
SPEAKER_03:So yeah.
SPEAKER_02:But yeah, Uber's always, you know, moving and shaking and uh trying to do stuff.
SPEAKER_03:So yeah, I mean, it's just like you know, just like Doordash, they're they're integrating and collaborating with everybody they can and and trying to keep you in their app as long as possible. You know, it's just the way it goes.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, yeah, for sure. Uh so this video, um, you know, if I had this type of service in my Uber last night, I mean, this Mofo would have got five stars and maybe a handy. But here we go. 10 second video. I can't believe this guy did this. There's a Keurig machine in the back of his fucking car. And burritos. So quick, quick video. Um, yeah, he's got a Keurig, like we have one of those small ones. It literally can fit on, especially if you're in an SUV, it can fit on the center armrest thing. Um, yeah, and the ladies brewing a fucking thing of coffee. And I'm just like what? Yeah. And got burritos, like, is he giving those away? Is he selling the burritos? I mean, I assume the coffee's free. I mean, you know, 90 cent curry cup is not a big deal, but like, I mean, I I wouldn't have hated it. I mean, I I probably would have I probably would have brewed it. The problem is when you slam in the fucking brakes, and then I mean that's shit's hot coming out. I mean, it's not Starbucks hot, but it's toasty.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, it's it's not something you really want on you.
SPEAKER_02:No, and um, and then selling the burritos too. I'm just like, I mean, I appreciate the hustle.
SPEAKER_03:I absolutely appreciate the hustle, but yeah, and you know, uh everybody, everybody do, you know, do your own thing. And I'm sure he catches a lot of shit from people because anytime you do anything, you put out candy or water, you know, you get the naysayers and they just bombard you. Oh, you're wasting your time, your money, and you know that. But you know, everybody do their own thing, and if that's what he wants to do, more proud to you.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I'm sure he I'm sure he got a ton a ton of hate for it, but like I don't care that he did it.
SPEAKER_03:And I I personally funny to do, just try it one night just for the heck of it. Just you know, I don't really have room for a curiog in my camera. Yeah, I mean it was a nice little setup. Yeah, yeah. The way he had it set up was great. But yeah, like I said, you hit those brakes, man, take a corner too fast. Woo.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, no, no, thanks. But again, I'm not gonna lie. If it happened last night, I was tired. I might pour a cup of black coffee on my way to the concert. So there you go. Um, so this is a bigger story that we didn't touch on last week, uh, about a mother accused of leaving young children in Uber for hours. Larry's gonna talk more about that.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, so uh this is a really wild story. This and uh as most wild stories do, it happened in Florida for some reason. Uh so yeah, according to this uh story, a police officer responded to a to a call uh at about 11 p.m. on a Friday after Uber call Uber driver called 911 reported that his passenger had deserted her two children in his vehicle. So the driver said that he had picked up uh Emily Sabogle, she's 32 years old, picked her and her children up at a shopping center. Um and that uh after she got in, he uh she actually uh reached over the console and grabbed his phone and canceled the ride. Oh, she didn't do it on her phone. Right anyway, and he then she said gave him ten dollars in cash, so she wanted to do a cash ride, which is no big deal. But so she gave him ten dollars in cash, and then uh as they were going, he asked asking him to stop the vehicle uh in the area of Northwest 108th Avenue and 50th Street. According to the driver, she exited the vehicle and told the driver she'd be back in three minutes. Uh then she called, listen to this. Police said the driver called him the driver called her, called the passenger about an hour later after she failed to return. Why he's waiting an hour. An hour? An hour. And she told him she'd be back in 12 minutes, and then she hung up. He tried calling her back again, he didn't answer, or she didn't answer, so he called 911 instead. Um according to the police report, it said the two kids appeared to be in good health and good spirits when they arrived, but they were hungry and thirsty. And they the police said that uh the the uh passenger was eventually located walking outside of a McDonald's about 2.2 miles away. She could not explain why she left her children with a stranger or how she arrived at the McDonald's. Uh the police also spoke with some staff at a place called Bob G's Wings and Things, who confirmed that she was a regular customer at that business and had been there earlier that night with her kids. They said the children were running around unsupervised as she enjoyed multiple alcoholic beverages at the bar. Yeah. So um the father also spoke with the news and said that he's really concerned about the safety of his children. And this is not the first time she's shown erratic behavior. So who would who would who would sit in an Uber for an hour with somebody's kids before they call?
SPEAKER_02:No doubt he probably didn't have a dash cam either. Uh no, if she said three minutes, I mean I would do I would do three minutes. I'd be like, I'm fine.
SPEAKER_03:Three minutes if they're yeah, and because they weren't it wasn't like an infant, you know, they were there's two kids, you know. That that's a little better, you're not alone with one kid. Right. Uh things like that. But yeah, after you know, five, ten minutes, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:No, not even that. I'm talking 3 30, I'm talking calling her. I'm like, where are you? Yeah. I ain't texting, I'm calling.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, no, I wouldn't text either. I would call her, and yeah, if she's not calling, then yeah, I'm I'm I'm giving a call to the police.
SPEAKER_02:This is what I do. She says 12 more minutes. I go, I go, you got one minute. If you are not here in one minute, I'm calling the police. Like I'm not like because A, I A, I want to move on with my day. Like, if you're not here, I can't. I mean, I'm not gonna leave the kids. You're the piece of shit that left the kids. But yeah, waiting an hour to then call is crazy.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Why is everyone testing?
SPEAKER_03:I don't know, because I was just reading in our in our main chat, uh, our telegram chat, it said uh Sue said she's she's posted comments, but but she said they disappeared. Oh, really? And then Faith saying, Yeah, I think the comments are wacky for some reason. Said, I don't see yours and they're not responding to mine either.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I noticed that no, it was just Traveler, and then I'm I'm but it doesn't bother me. I'm just gonna keep going, you know.
SPEAKER_03:Faith said it's your fault for putting the wrong time on it.
SPEAKER_02:It may have fucked it up, but I told Larry I wasn't gonna I wasn't gonna change it.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I see. I'll I see I see Bubba I see Bo Sue's.
SPEAKER_02:Now I do, yeah. But if she was commenting earlier, I hadn't.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I didn't hadn't either.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, it may have it may have fucked up. Uh it could. Um oh so sorry, I just I had the I had the telegram down. Looks like Faith signed up for it uh after I mentioned the paper. No slots. No slots. I mean, that's what mine looks like too. So um anyway, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:I mean it's it's a brand new app. Maybe it'll you know it might take a little time for it to grain some gain some traction, but yeah.
SPEAKER_02:I want to know if she remember it when she signed up, because I'm second guessing. Well, not second guessing, but did it say anything about pay? Like, I can't believe I like breezed over that part of it and didn't even think about like sending them a message. Like, that's not very transparent, you know what I mean, but that doesn't surprise me. But yeah.
SPEAKER_03:So anyway, back to the story. We also have a video, uh, it that it's video of the the driver in the car. Um, I guess it's body cam footage from from the police responding to the call.
SPEAKER_02:You want me to play it?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, we'll go ahead and play that.
SPEAKER_02:Where did you bring her? Where is she?
SPEAKER_00:She went to uh I don't know, she was walking over there?
SPEAKER_02:Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00:I think it's all this warehouse.
SPEAKER_02:She just walked over there?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, over there. She can't answer me. Here, she wants answer me, answer me. I'm okay, I'm back. I'm coming. Who the fuck's talking? I don't know because I have a Emily, please come to because you feel this. They're asking for you. I send the I send the because he has drunk, I just think maybe she doesn't know where Emily, I will tell the police at least, please answer the phone.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. Well, obviously, you know, English. Now you should still know not to be with kids in the fucking car for an hour. Yeah. But still, obviously, there's somewhat of a little bit of a language barrier. But did you was there was an update to that? Because I know we added the second article. Or did you already talk about that and I missed it?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, everything, everything that I talked about was was kind of from the update. Uh there because the original one just was a story that you know somebody had left their kids in the car. So yeah, all this other information came from the update.
SPEAKER_02:Gotcha. Faye said it only asked for your stripe to pay you, but nothing about how much. Lol. Well, yeah, I know. And I I guess in my head, I did it so quick, like, and it was there wasn't a lot too. Like, you know, they asked, I think, for a selfie and your address and your phone number and stripe, which I haven't used stripe in a long time. Um, speaking of that, I'm glad, I'm glad this. I know I'm squirreling here. Do you remember stereo? Oh, the music? Yes, so they used Stripe. And so when you when I connected this, they asked what business I wanted to do it under. And that stereo, there was another one in there too. I can't remember what it was. But that stereo, remember that?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I never used it. I remember y'all talking about it a lot. I never used it. I remember I'm I remember y'all. Uh there was yeah, several drivers in the chat group that were using it at one time.
SPEAKER_02:Yes, that brought back so many memories, so big.
SPEAKER_03:Man, that's uh that's been a minute.
SPEAKER_02:Oh my goodness. It's oh, it was like 2018, 17 or 18. But I can't remember. It wasn't on a tablet though. I don't think. No. How did because we basically what it was, the gist of it is artists would pay to get their music played in Uber, which is was a great idea, and you got paid a certain amount for um playing it, and it wasn't a ton, but uh I can't remember.
SPEAKER_03:I don't remember how I don't I don't know how it got played, whether it was an app on your phone. Oh somebody should remember that.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I'm trying to I Google well it was spelled weird. I spelled it I spelled it S-T-E-E-R-O, because I I think it was stereo. Yeah, it wasn't um It wasn't stereo, stereo No, yeah. But I when I Google that I don't let's see um let's add Uber to it. Oh yeah, here we go. It's article 2019. It's Ste S T. I was gonna spell it and I'm like, it's Ste. S-C-E-E-R-E-O.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I've got it pulled up. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Works with 15,000 ride chair drivers to promote music and over$120 a month. Yeah, I'm like really scanning it. Oh, okay. So the startup currently charged labels and managers uh nickel per minute, and drivers receive three cents of it. Oh I mean, what a great business idea, though, because like they are paying for cheap advertising, stereo is getting two cents, and we're getting three, which that's a shock too.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, and an artist is getting you know getting exposure.
SPEAKER_02:Right. Um, I agree.
SPEAKER_03:Bad parenting, bad Uber guy.
SPEAKER_02:I wonder if this is like I don't remember them shutting down. I mean, obviously they did.
SPEAKER_03:I remember uh I remember y'all talking about it a bunch.
SPEAKER_02:Because I probably would still use it. I mean, I don't care. Like if they're it's only when they're in the car, then I'd turn it off. Yeah, I don't know. It's old. I I doubt that it's not even a thing anymore.
SPEAKER_03:So yeah, remember uh Uber used to also have they were also had Pandora integrated in their app. Do you remember that?
SPEAKER_02:Uber did?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah, it was in the app, it was a choice. Damn, yeah, it was a setting you could do. I was just reading through the stereo things and I came across an article, and I remember that. I remember I I did that a few times.
SPEAKER_02:Okay, yeah, I don't quite remember that, but um hey, Tom's on TikTok. Hey Tom, thanks for joining on TikTok. Yeah, hey Tom. We talked about you earlier. We were bragging on you about uh all your rides, the screenshots you sent me. I I shared it, so you have to go back or you'll hear it on the audio or whatever. But no, I had a like when I saw that in stride and I was like, oh my god, I forgot about that. That was oh that that that just like ages us too. They don't have any cool shit like that anymore.
SPEAKER_03:No, no, that was I I mean, I'm I do remember y'all talking about a ton and some different drivers. And I think I used the Pandora one. Okay. Of course, you don't get paid for it.
SPEAKER_02:Um no, yeah, fuck them. I'm not doing anything, I'm not doing anything extra if I'm not getting paid. Like, give give me a little carrot, like a little something, something anyway. Yeah. So, anyways, God, I don't even know where we were.
SPEAKER_03:Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, we're oh, we were talking about the crew app. So yeah, it looks like Sue's commenting in the chat. Um, the wrong chat. Uh she's talking in the telegram chat. Uh love you, Sue. But uh yeah, she's Says that it's like a route and then so vary how many you have to do. Yeah. Oh, so like maybe like they do like an Amazon route where you get paid a base of like, let's say just twenty dollars an hour to make it easy for math. A three-hour route, you get you know sixty bucks and whatever that is. So that that makes more sense.
SPEAKER_03:Probably not per that would be kind of but it's good that it's you know, hopefully, like you said, they would, you know, they would put them together really close. You're not going all over the room.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, and if you're not yeah, and you're not like trying to route it yourself, like you just hit go and then you just go do it. So I wonder if they could turn that into a little bit more too, and not just um tra like trap, but maybe this hmm. Um, she did post it in here. It's a paid route. Oh, okay. Sorry, Babasu. You can kick me in the crotch. Um, I wonder what you could expand that to. Um, like without going like what else would an Airbnb need on the outside? I don't fucking know. Mold a lawn.
SPEAKER_03:I don't Yeah, I was gonna say long care. That's the only thing other thing on the outside.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I was just saying, like, what could they what could they offer a person that owns an Airbnb on the outside? But anyways, let's let's not get ahead of ourselves. So are we all done with the old lady or the stupid lady?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I think so. All right. Waymo in the news.
SPEAKER_02:All right, Waymo in the news. Uh, here we go. Uh 13 seconds. Uh, but did you die?
SPEAKER_01:How much signal I need to cut across eight lane? None? I turn now. Good luck, everybody else.
SPEAKER_02:Now, the audio, y'all, is that they added that the crash, this Waymo didn't crash, but across what is it talking about?
SPEAKER_01:How much signal I need to cut? I don't know. It's so weird. Like I turn now.
SPEAKER_03:He is definitely cutting that car off. For sure. He is like right on the nose of this car, this black car. He and there's a car in front of the Waymo, and then there's a car to his left, and he he does nose out there right in front of him. Yeah, maybe maybe later on he turns left and and cross eight lanes of traffic.
SPEAKER_02:But yeah, they're they're aggressive. I mean, those things are aggressive, and that that one car hesitated just for a second, and Waymo's like, fuck you.
SPEAKER_03:That's enough.
SPEAKER_02:That's enough. I'm going. And then when even when the the car tried to go, Waymo's like, nope, I'm already committed. Like, you're gonna eat my paint or I'm going. Like, that's right. Take your make a decision on what you want to do, but it ain't gonna be getting ahead of me.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, not happening. Not tonight.
SPEAKER_02:These Waymo's are just like again, you you you train them to drive like that, but you can't uh you can't stop for a school bus. It's like god damn.
SPEAKER_03:I can't wait till they're live in Nashville and go down and try them out.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, so hey, they uh they just launched they're gonna launch in Chicago. Yeah, I saw that. And then what was the other one I saw?
SPEAKER_03:Uh there's like three cities.
SPEAKER_02:Okay. The Chicago one I was I mean, that's close to me. So I mean, I I don't know when they're gonna do that, but I didn't of course I didn't read the article, but um uh face said leafs blower. Leafs blower, oh leaf blower. Well, not in Vegas, you don't you don't have any foliage that would be on the ground. I think she was talking about what else they could do, but um okay, so full disclosure, I didn't watch this DoorDash. I'm assuming it's fake though, right?
SPEAKER_03:I don't know, man. You don't think so?
SPEAKER_02:Okay, I lay uh so this is a 92-second video. I laid it just the tip, man. Basically, this guy's this guy's delivering DoorDash, and well, just by me labeling that, you kind of know what it is. So let's let's give it a watch.
SPEAKER_04:Hey, thanks for watching. I got you got your DoorDash order. Chickpoint. Yay, I'm so hungry. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:I love chick-point. I know, me too. Good food. I had to drive like ten miles to go get it. I'm trying to make uh like three dollars a mile. Three dollars. Yeah, that'd be like the same price as the food if I tipped you that much. I get what you're saying. I know to make it worth it. I gotta make something. I'm just trying to get a good tip. If it's gonna be that much, you're gonna have to come in and take the miles out on my ass or something. What? I can't do it. I mean, are you interested? I mean, yeah. I don't know if you're I'm interested. You are? Yeah, I mean, I'll take some booty over some money anyway. Okay. Well, I mean, uh honestly, I think I got an extra sandwich too.
SPEAKER_04:I gotta I'll bring my house, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:I got it I'll make it worth your while to take it away.
SPEAKER_02:See, that's why I feel like I never had nobody's hit me like that.
SPEAKER_01:I feel like you got to tip it, you know what I'm saying? Technically I did. No problem. That's one of them things. You're welcome. You have a good night. Be careful. Oh, I will too. That's a first for me.
SPEAKER_02:I think it's real. You think it's real? I can see that happening, man. Oh, faith is a hundred percent fake. I mean, there were there was there was times that it felt real, but like when he said the comment, like, if that's really gonna happen and you're going into Stranger's house, you're not gonna say, I got something better than the Chick-fil-a sauce. I'm sorry. You're not gonna make that joke. I make it with my wife, but we've been married for 20 years. If this is gonna be a one-night stand or whatever it is, you're not gonna make that joke. Uh I don't know. You don't know? I don't know. You guys usually give me a hard time when I don't sniff it out, but like face is 100% fake. I think it's fake. I don't care if it's fake or not.
SPEAKER_03:It's it's funny.
SPEAKER_02:I don't care if it's fake or not either. It's hilarious. It's a whole it's a whole thing. But I've g I I I shouldn't say this. I always say that and I shouldn't. I would guess that that has happened for real. Probably not that kind of interchange. Because it just seemed too perfect, the the back and forth. But I mean, they're pretty good actors then if they got you. Again, they may have not got you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, Bob Sue thinks it's fake too.
SPEAKER_02:I feel like I need to post this somewhere, and somebody needs is this real or fake? It's a great I loved it though. Who would do that though? Somebody looking for I mean, you're just gonna go in there with some str like it's neither of them are intoxic. I mean, once you add alcohol to that, like the everything changes, everything changes, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:But so I need I need to go back and find that and then look at that account that posted it and look at their other videos and see.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, yeah. Just suss that out a little bit. Yeah. Um that's a homework for me. Okay, yeah. We're really gonna we're gonna do it on the Patreon.
SPEAKER_03:Okay.
SPEAKER_02:All right. Uh okay, next up, uh, you know if you're in rideshare driver that you get asked the same stupid questions every single time. And uh this is a seven-second video, and you if when you hear this, you know exactly what the question is gonna be, but a little different scenario.
SPEAKER_03:I'll bet. So, like, do you drive for both Uber and Lyft or just Uber?
SPEAKER_02:So it's a video of a Waymo and a guy in the back, uh, you know, holding on to the freaking back of the car, which is headrest. And it says bad habits die hard, and obviously, do you drive for both or whatever?
SPEAKER_03:So how many times have we been asked like that?
SPEAKER_02:I mean, almost I think I think what it is is like there are people that get in your car that don't want it to be awkward, even though I don't give a shit. Like, I I mean I'm gonna do the best I can for you, but I don't care about you. Like, if you don't want to talk, like I'm good. I'm gonna try one question. How you know, how's the day going, or if you're a flight, whatever, and you don't say anything, like that's fine for me. I'm just gonna chill and and go. But um, but yeah, I I would say like if someone's gonna make small talk, that question is gonna get asked.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah. I agree. Yeah, Faith's got it right. No math, no geography, no homework.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, yeah, it's Bubasue. I mean, she's at I'm sorry, but she's adding to the list. It was no math and the no geography. Now it's no homework. So I appreciate that. This is growing. The list is growing. Soon we're just gonna sit here and stare at you for 60 minutes and not even say anything.
SPEAKER_03:Soon it's just gonna be an AI podcast, we're not gonna even be sure.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, right? Oh my gosh, it's coming soon. You can do it already. Yeah, I'm sure.
SPEAKER_03:I'm sure of it. It would not, it's not, it's not that hard. It is not all right.
SPEAKER_02:Uh, we're talking about Spark comments, and I think Faith shared this, but what's really great, and and I I think you picked up on it, but reading all the different screenshots that drivers have. Now, I don't have any, I don't have any pictures for this. I wasn't gonna share them all, but I figured it'd be fine. Yeah, I'll read I'll read some of them. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:So this the first one, this is a uh uh Spark, um, and this is on Reddit, and the title of it, it's Customer Notes Hall of Fame. So this one says, under access code, it says, I don't have either, I don't know what you're talking about. My address is, and they've had it you know redacted the address. And then uh under customer notes says conveniently when I don't want to get out, but I don't like it when they don't speak English. So uh he doesn't like it when other people speak English, but they don't they don't really speak English very well. Okay. Uh and some other notes down here. Uh do not dog, do not knock. Dog has tried to break through the door to eat people, just sleep on the porch.
SPEAKER_02:Who's why do they even have to put that in there? Who's trying to open the door to put it in the house, anyways? Like no, man. I know they said do not knock. Oh, do not knock.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, do not knock. Dog has tried to break through the door.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_03:Uh so this one under customer notes says house, front door, house, front door.
SPEAKER_02:Well, no shit. Oh, they add like okay, they added it in the notes.
SPEAKER_03:Add it in the into the cut in the customer notes.
SPEAKER_02:Okay, gotcha.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, and then this one under customer notes says, This is for a funeral. Please hand off to guests. How awkward would that be? And this is a dozen red uh Valentine's Day roses delivered to a funeral home. Oh my god. Yeah. Oh man.
SPEAKER_02:Well, at least it's flowers. I thought it was like a fucking grocery order for the like, you know, the ham and bun after the viewing or whatever. Yeah. Like, how awkward. Like, who's the who who ordered the ham and bun? Like you're walking around, like, oh my gosh, that'll be terrible.
SPEAKER_03:Oh man. Uh, so this one, um, this one up the top, it has uh Walmart reviewer. I don't know, I don't know what that is. Yeah, I don't know. Anyway, and the customer notes says uh something about it just says it has redacted some of that. So it says packages to some old house, some old home in some other area. The GPS is wrong sometimes, so it's hard to tell what they're exactly talking about on that one. Uh next one says upstore uh upstairs, wooden staircase on right of house, then in capital letters, not next door, you will fall through and break your ass.
SPEAKER_02:Oh my god. My ass is already flat. I don't need it broken too.
SPEAKER_03:I'm I'm looking at them now too. Yeah. So the next one says, uh, under customer roads, I would like this order ASAP. I already pay a lot for Walmart Plus, so paying an extra fee for some delivery is not an option. But if someone is available to deliver sooner, that would be great.
SPEAKER_02:I feel like half these comments, especially that one, like they don't know how the app works in regards to like what can be delivered, what is an extra cost. Like we have Walmart Plus too, but you have to you can't get it like right away. You have to wait like three hours, or you have to pay extra. That's when people are paying extra, and we get those, you know, for for us because they're like it's an express shop, so they're paying extra for me to immediately go do it.
SPEAKER_03:Exactly. Uh this one says leave it door, please. Uh, do not pretend to deliver groceries. I will report you. Oh, um, customer oats uh please, please put deliveries inside the back porch. Last delivery was left outside in the cold and the cranberry juice froze and busted the plastic. Is it that hard to open a door and put orders inside? Fucking open their door now inside and put it in now. It's a screened in porch or something.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I do a lot of screened in ports, but that's not gonna protect it from the cold.
SPEAKER_03:No, unless it's unless it's like a sunroom. And how long was it out there? Exactly. How long yeah, you know you're getting a delivery, you get the updates all the time.
SPEAKER_02:So many updates.
SPEAKER_03:Exactly. You should be waiting for it. You know, don't order something if you're not gonna be home for two hours.
SPEAKER_02:Right, dumb bitch.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, that's kind of their fault. Uh, I think let's see. This next one says uh please deliver to the back door located in the small parking lot behind this house, set on delivery on top step, please, small set of stairs, four to five stairs in the back of the building, apartment number one entrance, main floor.
SPEAKER_02:I'd be lost. That's a lot. That's a lot. All right, we'll we'll end it, we'll stop it there because I want to get this last article, but that was good. Yeah, I'll have to try it.
SPEAKER_03:Those are fun.
SPEAKER_02:I do have some I've taken, but I've never thought about like saving them. But I bet if I could uh type Walmart in my my photos, they'd come up. But oh yeah. I want to talk about this last one real quick and then we're gonna wrap it up. Uh it's about DoorDash, and it, you know, the comment that said Bubba Sue call a florist, not Walmart. So DoorDash becomes number one in U.S. grocery and retail ordering volume expanding for local merchants. Oh, I highlighted it. Why didn't the highlight work? God damn it. Uh, it didn't work on this one. Um, okay, so there's some stats on Valentine's Day weekend this year. Over one-third of online flour delivery orders were placed on DoorDash. Isn't that wild? One third. That's crazy. Um they have recently added, you know, they uh 2025 they added new 33 new partners, including uh Kroger, Family Dollar, DSW, Old Navy. Um, also grocery shopping via DoorDash was made available on Chat GBT, enabling consumers to go from meal inspiration to full cart and fast delivery from local national grocers. Um, let's see, they had like some crazy stats. I was like, you're shitting me. Um, let's see. So Valent uh Valentine's Day and Mother's Day are the busiest days for floral deliveries on DoorDash. Just Valentine's weekend. Okay, we said that. In 2025, on each of Valentine's Day and Mother's Day, consumers place more than one million grocery, convenience, retail, and alcohol orders on DoorDash. On those two days, one million orders.
SPEAKER_03:That's wild.
SPEAKER_02:What is happening? You're paying so much. Oh my God. Um they expanded their offerings. DoorDash includes for 2025 apparel, toys and games, books, and sexual wellness.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, there you go.
SPEAKER_02:Wellness. Okay. Um, so yeah, I mean, these numbers are crazy. I'm sure they're they're the stats are coming from DoorDash, so it's you know, they might be skewed a little bit, but still, and I mean, I got I gotta hand it to them. That's amazing.
SPEAKER_03:It is, yeah. I mean, it's staggering uh numbers on some of the stuff. Yeah, I mean like we said, they're they're they collaborating and partnering with so many places that um you know people are able to order just about anything.
SPEAKER_02:I mean, that's the thing. We've we've said from the beginning, shit or get off the pot. Uber got off the pot, or whatever you call it. I don't know. Did they shit or get off the pot? I don't know. Shit or so they shit. That's the positive. Basically, let's let's get going, let's partner, let's grow, lift. Nah, they're not doing it. Grubhub, nah. You know, and DoorDash is like, hey, we want to compete with Uber Eats, and clearly they're they are killing it. Um I think Uber Eats could succeed on their own without ri like I think they could overtake DoorDash, but they have so many irons in the fire in regards to that, that I think you know, you know, rideshare is big for them for sure. But I mean, I think I think like grocery delivery and all that stuff could be so much bigger if they you know spent a lot of their resources on it. So all right, folks. Thank you so much for joining. Sorry, I I mean I'm apologizing, but I don't know what was up with the chat earlier, but I'm glad we got things straightened out. Um uh we're gonna be on Patreon in seven minutes. If you want to join, go to patreon.com slash the gig econ podcast. Uh, we're gonna talk about Atlanta test some driverless pod transport loop. And a woman seeks DoorDash driver who saved her house from a fire. So, like another gig worker stepping up and not thinking of themselves and uh trying to do the do the right thing. So yeah, uh other than that, uh any gig work this week in Larry.
SPEAKER_03:Uh yeah, my son, you know, my son's back in St. Louis, so you know I've been hanging out with him for the last few weeks while he's recuperating. Uh so yeah, I will uh plan to be out doing some gig work, maybe some rides and maybe some food delivery if it's uh weather's not too bad.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, for sure. I um I got that quest and uh somebody shit all over me. I think it was Faith. But I mean that's the best quests I've gotten in a long time. I still don't get quest. You yeah, well, you never have. No. Um I'm trying to scan up what I got. Oh, I got um uh rides and eat 60 trips, 205. You do another 10, you get 50, or reverse, you can do 50 trips for 155, and if you do 20 more, you get 100. I'm not going to do that because that's still not enough for me to do 60 fucking things over the weekend. I mean, I'd have to work Friday night, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday to get that. And I'm I'm not I'm not here to grind it out. Now, maybe during the week, uh, you know, if it was the summertime, you know, in uh when I'm off school, then maybe, but yeah. So I will be out though. Hopefully we can connect sometime. Uh, and as always, don't put up with anyone's bullshit.
SPEAKER_03:And we'll see you on the road.
SPEAKER_02:All right, peace out.
SPEAKER_03:Hey, good night, everybody.
