Dr Pak Lee is a Senior Lecturer in Chinese Politics and International Relations at the University of Kent and spoke with Jason McCrossan. The demonstrations in Hong Kong also known as the Umbrella Movement or Umbrella Revolution, began in September 2014 when pro-democracy campaigners, angry at China’s plans to vet candidates when they hold elections in 2017, protested outside the government headquarters and occupied several major city intersections.
