Bible Brief | Discover the Story
Gideon, Let Baal Contend with Him (Level 3 | 85)
Israel is in crisis, living in fear and hiding due to Midianite raids. Despite their disobedience, God responds to their cries for help. The angel of the LORD appears to Gideon, calling him to save Israel. Gideon, initially doubtful, tests God's call and receives confirmation through miraculous signs. Commanded to destroy his father's altar to Baal, Gideon obeys, earning the nickname Jerubbaal. With just 300 men, God delivers a stunning victory over a vast Midianite coalition. However, Gideon's story concludes with a cautionary note as he leads Israel back into idolatry, continuing the cycle of disobedience.
