Lewis Patzner
Trumpeter and composer, Darren Johnston, talks about our upcoming show with his project, The Pipes, and my project, Cosa Nostra Strings, at the Back Room in Berkeley June 9th at 7:30. We also talk about his projects, the trumpet life, and a good deal of politics. It gets pretty political in the 2nd half, but we circle back to music within that section.

Angel On The Run

Like wind over the walls that fools will build just to divide

They say your love’s an ocean, just as deep as it is wide

some sailors might get lost but you can blame it on their pride

just hoist the sails, the ocean has it’s ways

some say it’s like a bandit with a blindfold and a gun

while others say it’s more like drops of warmth down from the sun

and like an angel on the run

you fall in love with everyone

and please, please, please

save me some

Now everybody’s heard ‘bout all the troubles of the world

we cling to things, and need just causes pain

and selfish men will stone any love that can’t be owned

and some folks keep on giving just the same.

You scream across the desert with the black road hot beneath

the wind picks up your hair and then a smile shows off your teeth

and there’s no one that you need by your side just to feel complete

no gallant goof to swoop and save the day.

and when your life of freedom and of giving’s finally done

you’ll look back and reflect on all the hearts that you have won

and like an angel on the run

you fall in love with everyone

but please, please, please

save me some.
