Lexie Smith

So when we're not immersed in our coaching community on circle, we're busy managing our other businesses navigating the ups and downs of life, and, of course, recording this podcast.

Emily Merrell

This is where we dive deep into epic conversations about life, business coaching, and everything

Lexie Smith

in between. So are you ready, Lex? I'm set and let's coach.

Emily Merrell

Hi, Lex. Hi, I am in high res.

Reese Evans

I'm so excited to be here.

Emily Merrell

This is so perfect. We're filming this during Halloween and Reese's Pieces are like kind of my favorite things to eat for Halloween. You know,

Reese Evans

it's so funny. There's always a bill, a billboard outside the studio of my office that always has Reese's ads. I'm like, Are you speaking to me? Like what's going

Lexie Smith

on a sign literally, literally, literally a sign?

Emily Merrell

Yes. We so so we want to disclosure that we're really we think we're funny. So this is a big problem that we we we are funny. But we definitely think we're funny. So we play into each other's pens. Sometimes it can get it can spiral. So FYI, I'm in the right place. Welcome home. So to kick things off, you know, we know who you are. And I just want to give the audience member a little backstory. Rhys and I were introduced back in 2016 by a super connector. I call her my super sniper super connector named Alana gross. And it was an email introduction. And I said to Reese, I was like, if you're ever in New York City, you are more than welcome to stay with me. And, you know, as the internet, the power of internet is, Reese actually took me up on it. And she came to my West Village apartment and slept in my bed. We were complete strangers. And I think he stayed for about a week like we went, there was a great power. We went to The Hamptons together to this amazing retreat that I still think about. And I think you came home to Connecticut to so there was a lot of a lot of you in in my world very quickly. Yeah,

Reese Evans

I don't think I made it to Connecticut. So you have to invite me but I did get to meet your mom. We went to lunch with her. And it was also amazing.

Emily Merrell

So that's that's my origin story. But I think for those who don't know you as intimately as I do. Can you give us a little backstory of who you are? Who is Reese? Evans?

Reese Evans

Yeah, I'm so excited to be here. Thanks for having me. So I'm Rhys, I'm the creator of yes supply. And it's so interesting how all the things that we go through in our life, they build up to help us create the thing that we're meant to create. So growing up, I always felt very different than everyone around me. I was one of the few like people of color at my school. So I always felt very different in that sense. And then my mom was a single mom. So I would always look at my friends around me who had like the, quote, perfect family. And I would wonder, like, how come I don't get to have the perfect family? And I think intrinsically, I actually felt like I was like a bad person, like, Well, why would all these bad things happen to me if I didn't deserve it. And then when I was about 10 years old, my mom got into a very abusive relationship, physically, emotionally, mentally abusive, and she was in that relationship for about six years. And so growing up around that first off for the first 10 years of my life, not having a father figure and then being in this situation where I'm like, I don't know what love is, like I see it with my grandparents or my aunts and uncles. I don't know what love is, but I feel like this is not it. And my home life was always so chaotic. And, and towards the end of the six years, she ended up getting breast cancer and she knew that being in such a stressful chaotic environment wasn't supportive. And so that was finally her final straw. She decided to leave and get out there. I'm so grateful because 16 years later, she's still here and she's healthy and and everything like that, but it was definitely a lot to go through. And so even after we had left and we were in a safer environment, we a safe environment. We moved in with my grandma, even though we were in a safe environment. I think all of the you know, mental emotional. Residual from that stayed with me right And so for a very long time, I had like no self confidence, no self worth, I thought I was not good enough in so many ways. And I was so mean to myself I was, it's crazy because I became my own biggest bully, I think just being around being so much chaos. And so my outside world reflected my inside world. So I would have friendships where the friends weren't great friends, I would have jobs that would just treat me like a number. And where I started to have a shift was when I actually I was working in a retail job, it was a very stressful retail job, I did not like it at all, I would cry often on my way to work. And I was surrounded by a lot of creative, talented people who would say things like, I really want to, you know, do that I really want to be an artist, but I can never do that I really want to be a musician, but I can never do that. And I remember, I was always someone who could see people's potential. So I would often say to them, like, why are you just saying no to yourself? Like no one else is telling you? No, you're just saying no. And that actually made me have this huge aha moment where I realized, wait a second, what if I'm telling myself no, like, what if I could actually have more than what I currently have? And I'm the one who's actually stopping myself from creating it. And I remember after one particularly tough day, at work, I went home and I just started journaling on like, what would I ask her? If I knew the answer was going to be yes? Like, if things could look different to me or for me? How would that look? And I actually just started journaling on this idea that eventually became Yes supply. So I didn't know about coaching, I didn't know about personal development platforms, or, you know, this was like, 2015, when I was doing this journaling, 2014 or 2015, when I was doing this journaling. So like, I didn't know that this was even possible. About I had just gone inside and thought about, like, if I could create anything that I wanted to create, what would I create, and I felt like a platform for, you know, the mentor that I always wish existed or the advice that I always wish existed or the positivity that I always wished existed. And so yes supply, it just started as a blog, and I literally had no idea what I was doing. And some of the blogs were on like, because I also started on my own personal journey. So some of the blogs were like on a cleanse that I did, and, and all this random stuff, and through giving myself permission to create and just say yes to myself, I finally landed on the fact that like, I love learning about personal development, and I love sharing with others. And so by doing this, I actually started to create a community online that started to build and people were messaging me all the time saying that is an Instagram post that I put out how to change their life or a blog that I had put out had changed their life. And I remember thinking like, if I can help this many people just doing at this point, I actually got a better job at a nine to five. So I remember realizing, like if I can help this many people, just at my time after work, imagine how many people I could help if I did it full time. And so I realized it's actually my responsibility to find a way to get paid for the content that I was putting out. Because if I could get paid, then I could, you know, pay my bills, which is pretty important. And I could help more people. And so I was very blessed in the fact that I discovered coaching, how I discovered coaching was somebody wanted to interview me about my blog, and I had a membership site. And they just happen to have a Facebook group. I didn't know what a Facebook group was, but I went this Facebook group and all these people were saying, I'm making 10k a month, I'm making 20k a month and I'm like, wait a second, like what is a coach? Wait, they're doing essentially exactly what I'm doing. But they're making a heck of a lot of money, a lot more money than I am. And so I went on the path to learn about like, what coaching was, and how to truly help people and everything like that. And I I think that was I think shortly after that I started coaching not 100% knowing what I was doing, but just I already had people asking me for advice. So I just started coaching them. And I think shortly after that, that's when I quit my job and shortly after that, that's when I met you and came to hang out with you in New York because I remember around that period of time I went from not making a lot of money to having my first 10k month the month after I had quit my job and I'm pretty sure I saw you like a month or two months right after I quit my job. So I was like, you know, making incredible money and everything like that. And yeah, becoming a coach literally changed my life. And then after a while I felt like I was hitting a plateau and I realized it was because I wasn't able to go as deep as I wanted with my clients and so that's when I was like I need to learn how to like actually coach like actually be good at this actually get best results, better results because I knew that if I could truly help people and have great testimonials, that was going to be like that was going to be my business card. You know, it's like when you have people raving about you and amazing testimonials and everything like that, that is going to bring in more clients. And so I started getting certified in NLP and EFT and all these incredible okay.

Lexie Smith

Okay, jumping in here because yeah, ravioli so you guys, Lex here? I'm actually hearing this for the first time right along with you guys. And I'm sitting here going wow, wow, wow, let me let me digest for a second. I want to say first Reese, thank you so much for sharing that story. I know, there's probably 5 billion more details to it. I'm digesting and blown away. And I want to make sure to pause and just thank you. Yeah, I

Reese Evans

know my story is long. No, no, I

Lexie Smith

want to I just want to I want to pause for a second because I think we're moving through seasons, right? So we kind of heard your backstory, we heard how you, you found your way into coaching. Now you're at this point in your career, where you're taking this thing more seriously. And now you're starting to talk about certifications and kind of acronyms. So back up for a second and talk us through your kind of your coaching without any certifications. What route How did you go about learning about the different certifications out there? How did you decide what you wanted to do? Because this is a question Emily. And I get asked all the time and her and I are not certified. So I'm really excited to hear from someone who is huh

Emily Merrell

yeah. So I think I first heard about

Reese Evans

NLP, which is Neuro Linguistic Programming, because of Tony Robbins, which everyone knows is one of the top coaches in the world. So I had his book I don't even know if I have read the whole book at that point. But I was aware that he did NLP. And I started to realize that NLP had a lot to do with the subconscious mind. I also when I had started on my personal development journey, I discovered Bob Proctor, which Bob Proctor is one of like, he's a legend of manifestation. And so what I learned from Bob Proctor is that our subconscious dictates 95% of our daily actions, behaviors, emotions, everything, our subconscious is what drives our life. And so if we want to create a change, rather than trying to use our willpower, which is only 4% of our daily actions, behaviors, and try to force and try to hit our head against the wall and feel like oh my gosh, this is hard. When we change on the subconscious level, then we're able to be led towards our goals on autopilot is the same as like, you know, you get up and you kind of you do your routine, right? You brush your teeth the same way you put on your shoes. Same way you get your car, you drive somewhere in your like, how did you even get there, your subconscious operates the majority of your life on autopilot for you. So when you program your subconscious mind, which is what I teach people to do, now you can be led on autopilot to do the habits and behaviors that will lead to your success. And it feels like oh, this was easy. Like if somebody used to think doing a live stream was hard, they're gonna feel like oh, doing a live stream and showing up as easy. Or if somebody is wasting their time like scrolling, you can program that out. So they're like, oh, I don't even want to scroll on Instagram, my time is too valuable. So and then Bob Proctor also teaches a lot on manifestation. And so the subconscious mind is essentially our window to the infinite. And so when we create an image of the life that we want, and we impress it upon the subconscious mind, then we're able to take a thought and idea of the life we want the money we want to have the health we want to have, we're able to impress it upon the subconscious mind, which is what moves it into form. And so did last week, I knew that I had to learn about the subconscious mind. Sorry, go ahead. I'm willing Oh, I was

Emily Merrell

gonna say so then did you find that? Did you find certifications through him in particular? Or was it something like he is the the godfather of manifestation and other people have created certification programs or programs to dig deeper in this?

Reese Evans

Yeah, because of knowing about Bob Proctor I knew that I needed to learn about the subconscious. And then I knew that Tony Robbins did NLP. So I think I actually heard about the NLP certification I went through in a Facebook group like I think I went into Facebook group and asked like, does anyone know when you get certifications or I saw someone else asking. And then that was I went through the comments and like, that was one of the responses. Was that in LA? Yes. Yeah. That I went to was in LA. Yeah. Yeah.

Emily Merrell

I saw you at the hotel in LA for a hug your certifications. So so let's talk through I feel like it's kind of, you know, there's college and then there's masters and PhDs. So when you think of certifications, if, if a new coach is listening, and they're like, I don't know what to do, should I start coaching first? Should I get certified? First? Do you have any? Do you have any tips on which direction to pursue first?

Reese Evans

Yeah, 100% I think I think for each different person is going to be unique. And I think the most important thing is to always follow your intuition. So for some people, they might feel like, you know, I already have a lot of knowledge, I kind of want to do more consulting and like, share my advice. And so for that path, they might just want to start just sharing, right? Because I think it's just good to kind of get your first step, like get, put that first foot forward and kind of get into the mix. But if somebody is feeling like, you know what, I think I want to have a solid foundation of coaching, I want to work more, not just telling someone what to do, like giving advice more like a consultant, but I want to work with their subconscious mind, help them manage their emotions, help them work through mindset blocks. From my experience, you can just do that just by telling someone like just go after your dreams, just go after your goal. So in that situation, I think then it would be better to do a coaching certification first, or, like, I'm biased, but I believe it would be better to do a certification like mine, where you learn mindset coaching, Neuro Linguistic Programming, hypnosis and EFT. The reason I've been in other certifications you like just mindset coaching. Like I like, yeah, just mindset coaching. And if a program from my experience in program is just mindset coaching, then all you learn to do to help your clients is like telling powerful stories and asking questions, right? So they're, you're asking questions, hoping that the person gets a shift, and hoping that the person gets a ha moment. Whereas our program, the reason why we have five certifications is so that you can do the coaching aspect of active listening, asking questions, and, you know, finding out like reframing or asking questions and getting a chef, but then you have NLP and you have hypnosis, so that you can actually make the change that they need on the subconscious level so that they actually change their behaviors and change the way that they feel. And then the EFT and somatic work, because sometimes when we're feeling a certain emotion, our brain doesn't know why our body is feeling a certain emotion. So if you can integrate bodywork, somatic work, and EFT tapping into the change, now the person is getting a full body change, they're thinking different. They're acting different, and they're feeling different. So in my belief, and again, I'm biased, but in my belief, purely mindset coaching is only scratching the surface because it's only addressing the conscious mind, which is less than 5% of how we act in our life.

Lexie Smith

Wow, wow. Okay, so you kind of brought us up to something that I find so fascinating. Again, everyone listening clearly you've heard them make cue of recent Emily and they go way back. I'm new like you guys. And so I learned today Reese that you built to your point, your own Certification Program, which is absolutely incredible. And I'd love to hear like taking us back. So you've been certified. You've gone through certification programs yourself, you're starting to maybe find gaps or okay, this would make sense what did you do to begin building your own certification program? Because that is different to me than just building a program like what Emily and I have for business owners very different.

Reese Evans

Yeah, absolutely. Well, I was very blessed because NLP certification that I went through so they had their level one NLP certification, then their master certification, then their trainers training certification. So I went through all of that to become a trainer and learn about training, speaking on stages, communicating, putting together content, everything like that. And then you actually had an option to buy the NFL like kind of like license the NLP script so that you could teach other people and then I went through the whole Master, master NLP training too, with a with a different trainer. So that having all those materials, it gave me a great start because I had all of the scripts for NLP. So that was a fantastic start. The reason why I started my own certification is because like so much respect to them, because they taught me techniques that changed my life. And I felt like I could add to the world of personal development in the world of mindset coaching by adding in my own experience, which was, we live in a very online world. And so when NLP was created, it was created, you know, in the 70s before we're really working Online. And so when you go through our program, we show you how to do the techniques. If you're with someone in person, we show you how to do the techniques, if you're working with somebody online, because it it can be different depending on the techniques, some of the techniques, you're, you're touching the person because you're, you know, making kinesthetic changes. So we teach you how to teach your client to to do it for themselves if you're not in the same room. Also, one problem sometimes that people have when they're leaving a typical certification is they feel like, we I have all of these techniques, but I don't know what to do these techniques. And this also happens if somebody has done multiple certifications. So if someone's done a breathwork certification here, and then EFT certification, they're like, I have all these techniques, I don't actually know how to tie it together to get the person to the result that they want. So I brought in my manifestation process. So I've manifested some incredible things in my life. And actually manifested meeting like the legend Bob Proctor who's like, a great manifestation teacher, you should definitely look him up. And what I realized is, when I reverse engineered how I manifest, I realized that there's a five step process. So there's getting clear on the goal, first and foremost, because then we can turn that like move that goal from thought into form, then there's being in the identity of the person who already has it. So embodying being that person, then there's having the habits, rituals and routines of that person, then there's releasing the beliefs, the identities, the emotions that no longer serve you at that elevated level. And then there's using the law of assumption universal law of assumption, to expect the best case scenario because for any of the manifestation lovers listening, there's the double slit experiment that has shown us the observer effect what we observe, like, at any given moment, there's multiple opportunities or possibilities for something to happen. And what science has shown is that when we observe a potential it collapses and turns into reality. So when we combine goal setting identity habits, releasing what doesn't serve you, and then expecting the best case scenario, and you have the techniques to program that into the person's subconscious mind, it, what I found is that essentially makes their success inevitable because they're not just thinking and wishing I could have it but they're embodying it in their subconscious in their energy. So you're working with tangible tools and you're working with the energy of the universe to

Emily Merrell

release that is insane. I literally I'm getting chills just listening to all of this too. And just thinking through my guess I want to I love the embodiment of that person to either I, I had the pleasure of I love atomic habits, and that's what James clear talks on a lot is embodying the really successful person. What is this a successful person? Would they eat this meal? Or would they eat a cheeseburger? Or would they eat a fine steak or whatnot?

Reese Evans

And I just read that but people keep bringing it up to me. It's fine. I need to just read it. I

Emily Merrell

Lex Lexie is making fun of me. Oh, he's but I got to interview him last two weeks ago for it. He went to my college.

Lexie Smith

And so I'm not okay, you if you're gonna say I'm making fun of you, you need to clarify, I'm not making fun of her for interviewing James clear, I have the pleasure of being around Emily and many, many, many different environments, our podcasts or coaching or this and that. So I've just heard the story at this point, many, many, many times. I've turned it into a drinking game. And every time she brings up it's clear, I'm like shot.

Emily Merrell

I got really into core power yoga. She sent me a shot glass every time every time she said it. we digress. Well, so Reese, I want to be mindful of your time because we can talk about this could this could be a five hour podcast, and there might have to be a part 234 or five. So while we have you My question for you for the these listeners who might just be starting out in their coaching journey. And we believe that Ready Set coach to start, you know, just to go, what piece of coaching advice do you wish you had had at the beginning of your coaching journey?

Reese Evans

That is such a great question. Um, what coaching advice do I wish that I had at the beginning of my journey? I think one, I think one thing that stands that's coming to me because I'm working with a lot of coaches is sometimes the best way to, to overcome the fear is to prove the fear wrong. So let's just say somebody wants to launch something. And they know that in order to launch it, maybe they want to do a webinar to sell it. Sometimes people will have so many fears around like what if nobody comes? or my following isn't growing fast enough or etc etc, that they won't do the masterclass and then they make the failure inevitable right we create our own self fulfilling prophecies. So, you know, I love all of this inner work and it's so important to do the inner work and also sometimes you just have to prove the fear wrong and just go do the masterclass and best case scenario, all your dream client sign up. And worst case scenario, you've just gotten better at doing a masterclass and then next time you do it, it's going to be even better.

Emily Merrell

I love that. Amen. I love that idea. We're huge about about Yeah, exactly mic dropping or are yetis onto the ground.

Lexie Smith

Drop it but not because that's expensive. Yeah, exactly. This is so incredible. Reese I'd love to know where anyone listening can go what's the best place to go to learn more about you? And yes supply and the community and the certification program that you're building or not building at have? Yeah,

Reese Evans

I would say the best place to go is actually our YouTube channel because I'll do a lot of longer trainings about the subconscious mind and manifesting and how it all works and how to create change. So that's probably the best place to go. And then I post pretty much every day on Instagram so you can follow along with me and my journey there. You might see more of like my kids and my home life and that type of thing. But or behind the scenes of me working at my studio. But yeah, YouTube at yes supply, Instagram at yes supply. And we have a lot of really great freebies on our website as well. So if someone needs help understanding how to plan their first coaching session, we have a free masterclass for that, or also a free masterclass on how to decide what kind of coach you want to be

Emily Merrell

resave one personal question before we bring this on home is, you know, you you are a mom of two kids, and you have two little ones under four, if I'm correct, yeah, under four, and you work from home and have a studio and your husband's an entrepreneur. And oftentimes, when we are coaching, a lot of times, our clients will have a lot of they'll blame a lot of things on time. And they'll say they don't have time for it, or they're too busy for it. Or, Oh, I just didn't have time to do my homework, or I didn't have time to do XY and Z. And so I would love if you left us with a little bit of wisdom on embracing time. Yeah, absolutely.

Reese Evans

I think I think sometimes as like, I'm sure you have a lot of successful women in our community. I think sometimes as successful women, we feel like we have to do everything. And so we tried to do everything. And one thing I've realized is that I absolutely cannot do everything. So as much as I can, in my business, I'm trying to delegate and automate as much as I can. So I have systems around like content creation, I have systems around selling, I have you know, someone on my team that helps me with that, too. And I feel like creating as many systems and automations as you can, then things can work for you rather than you working for them. So I think that's really important. And then in terms of like home life asking for help, too. So like I have a cleaner that comes helps me and we have a nanny. But to be honest, I spend a lot of time with my kids right now, because I know that they're only this young once. I think too, it's important to like not stress, it's like there's time to make tons of money later and to do all the things later. But I feel like between one and five, or zero and five, I want to spend as much time with them as possible. So I'm usually home Monday, Tuesdays, most Thursdays and Fridays and then come to my office on Wednesdays and just like power it out, like my coaching calls and everything like that. And then sometimes I come in on Thursday. So today is a Thursday. But yeah, I try to like compress it in and just like powerhouse all my days because my time with them is so valuable. And use the Notes app because I guess my best downloads for coaching and content if I'm just out like I'll be out for a walk with them or be at the park and something will drop in. So I'll use the Notes app to kind of like dump my ideas and then like at naptime or bedtime, you know, post a quick piece of content or something like that.

Emily Merrell

I appreciate that so much. And I think everyone needs to hear that like there's ways to do it. There's ways for you to have your cake and eat it too. And be the mom of your dreams.
