Hey all, welcome to the first episode of the 31 Days of Wisdom series. I’m Jethro Casie, and this podcast is here to empower believers to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. Today, we’re diving into Proverbs chapter 1, exploring what wisdom truly is and how to walk in godly discipline. Let’s start with a prayer...

Jethro Casie (00:02.30)
So, before we jump into the text, I want to give some background on the word “proverb.” It first appears in Deuteronomy 28:37, and in Hebrew, it’s moshal — meaning a short teaching or a parable with moral and prophetic meaning. Proverbs aren’t just for reading; they’re for applying through obedience. I’ll also share how I study Proverbs — praying for understanding, reading multiple translations, and consulting the original Hebrew meanings.

Alright, let’s read Proverbs 1:1-9 (KJV) — this is Solomon’s proverbs about gaining wisdom, justice, and understanding. Notice how it talks about the instruction of your father and the law of your mother as an ornament of grace and chains about your neck. This tells us parental guidance is powerful and honors us when we listen and obey.

Jethro Casie (00:12.30)
Verse 5 says, “A wise man will hear and increase learning...” Even if you’re wise, you always need to keep learning and seek wise counsel. Wisdom isn’t just knowledge; it’s also about surrounding yourself with godly advisors because we’re not meant to walk this life alone.

Jethro Casie (00:15.00)
And then verse 7 hits hard: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” Now, when I first read this, I thought, “Fear God? That sounds scary!” But the fear here is reverence and submission — recognizing His holiness and aligning our hearts with His will. True wisdom flows out of this fear.

Next, from verses 10 to 19, Solomon warns us not to walk in the way of sinners or consent to their enticements. I remember when I got back into the world and was invited to parties — people kept asking me to drink, but I said no. It felt like more than just peer pressure; it felt like a spiritual battle. The Bible calls us to be in the world, but not of it. Our environment shapes us, so walk with the righteous and avoid the paths of sin.

Jethro Casie (00:23.00)
Then in verses 20 to 33, wisdom is personified as a woman crying out publicly, urging us to turn away from foolishness and complacency. Wisdom calls for humility and discipline — qualities tied to the fear of the Lord. Rejecting this wisdom leads to destruction, but those who listen will dwell safely.

Alright, that’s it for today’s episode! Remember, wisdom isn’t just knowledge — it’s obedience, discipline, and walking in reverence to God. If this blessed you, subscribe or follow on your favorite platform. I’m looking forward to diving into Proverbs chapter 2 with you next time. God bless!
