Welcome to chapter five of Proverbs. I'm to dive straight into it. If you missed the first few chapters and want to join this 30 day with 30 day, 31 days of wisdom that we're going through, I would recommend going to chapter four, but I'll give you a quick recap. So my name is Jethro Casey. I'm the host of the case by Casey Kingdom secrets to success podcast, show focused on revealing kingdom secrets to success to empower believers to walk in the power of the Holy spirit. So
The KJV and we'll start off by reading it, but just to give you the context, look in a few different translations of the word. And in the KJV, the title of this chapter is said, the lips of a strange woman and the GNT and the NIV it says warning against idolatry, which is interesting, but let's read and just do a quick prayer. Text the Holy Spirit for understanding. Father, we come to you in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus. Holy Spirit, we pray that.
You will glorify yourself in our hearts and our minds and our souls. Father God teach us this day Lord how to avoid the strange woman Lord how to avoid idolatry how to put nothing but you first. Holy Spirit ask for understanding Lord that you reveal what you need to reveal for your people whether it be one one thousand or one million in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus. So I'm going to be reading in we'll just actually we'll do the GNT so let me pull that up here.
actually we'll do the living bible so it says listen to me my son i know what i'm saying listen watch yourself lest you be indiscreet and betray some vital information for the lips of a prostitute are as sweet as honey and smooth flattery is her stock in trade but afterwards only a bitter conscience is left to you sharp as a double-edged sword she leads you down to death and hell
For she does not know the path of life. She staggers down a crooked trail and doesn't even realize where it leads. Young men, listen to me and never forget what I'm about to say. Run from her. Don't go near her house. Lest you fail to fall to her temptation and lose your honor and give the remainder of your life to the cruel and merciless. Lest strangers obtain your wealth.
Jethro Casie (02:29.249)
and you become a slave of foreigners, lest afterwards you groan in anguish and in shame when syphilis, Jesus is Lord, consumes your body. And you say, if only I'd listened, if only I had not demanded my own way. why wouldn't I take advice? Why was I so stupid? For now I must face public disgrace. Drink from your own well, my son. Be faithful and true to your wife.
Why should you beget children with women of the street? Why share your children with those outside your home? Be happy, yes, rejoice in the wife of your youth. Let her breast and tender embrace. Satisfy, let her love alone fill you with the light. Why delight yourself with prostitutes, embracing what isn't yours? For God is closely watching you, and he weighs carefully everything you do.
The wicked man is doomed by his own sins. There are ropes that catch and hold him. He shall die because he will not listen to the truth. He has let himself be led away into incredible folly. I actually want to start there at verse 23. Father, I would just thank you for the reading of your word and I pray that this will convict somebody now in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus. So it says the wicked man is doomed and I'm not gonna lie, the living Bible version was kind of crazy.
But it says in verse 22, the wicked man is doomed by his own sins. They are ropes that catch and hold them. So from a spiritual perspective, we obviously know there's people out there who are living in bondage. And when you give access spiritually to spirits, demonic spirits, things that God has not ordained in your life or did not intend to be in your life, you give them legal access.
You give them an opportunity to bind you. That's why when we're casting out demons, we say we bind you, we arrest you. All these things to do with literally like putting chains, ropes on people. That's why there's also that popular worship song that everybody knows, like break every chain, break every chain, because there's truly, some people are in bondage and I can testify of this.
Jethro Casie (04:49.453)
And this whole chapter, because I used to be a man who desired to just sleep with women. Not from even a place of. It was a perversion of what I truly intended. I'm blessed now to say that I have a girlfriend and, we obviously want to get married in the future. But when it talks about the lips of a strange woman, like I remember the first time that she met me, she said that after, like she saw a spirit of lust over me.
As because who I was was that I was going to be a man doomed by my own sins if it wasn't for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that I was literally I thought I was free, but I was bound by sin. I was bound by lust. It was like I couldn't control myself and I really got convicted. I don't even know I'm going here, but thank you, Jesus. So maybe this is because somebody listening is going through the same thing, but I really got convicted when I first opened up my word. I was 21, I think. And.
I actually encountered a man of God on my way to an internship and we were talking about the verse where the Lord says, if you even look at a woman and you lust after her, you committed sin. I'm like, what? That's crazy. Cause I was always a guy. I'm looking back at every single girl I can. I'm thinking like bad thoughts towards her and all that. And that would just seem so foreign to me because like the standard was so high and I was trapped by my sin. But the Lord is saying that
If you surrender that to him, because that's truly what it takes. If you surrender that to him, that he will fill you with something that you couldn't even imagine. He'll give you his spirit. He'll give you that spirit of self-control. It's not easy. You know, I was just with my church. This is all a part of wisdom, trust me. But I was with my church just now and it was talking about endurance and full surrender. That was my two biggest takeaways. Like in this Christian life, like even in this
And in chapter five, you don't hear that it's going to be easy. Like when this strange woman comes to you and she's enticing, she's trying to seduce you. She's in another verse, it says like a different translations. It says an adulteress. So she's cheating on her husband. It said in the living Bible once as a prostitute, I would have to find where it says exactly where it wrote down. It says a strange woman, an adulterous woman.
Jethro Casie (07:14.775)
this type of woman is going to come into your life as a man and maybe as a woman. I'm not sure what that means, but as a man, like you can expect this to be something that you have to face that you have to fight. have to avoid this strange woman who wants to, as it says in verse nine and 10, maybe not directly, but indirectly is take your honor.
Is that you're like what you have given you and this is a revelation by the spirit of God is that when you're fornicating, when you're doing these things with people, you have no true connection with them. You're just sleeping with somebody to sleep with. And I'm telling you from experience that you're giving something away. Like there's an exchange. You're not just having fun because and that's what this word talk. That's what the chapter five talks about. It's like. You let the sin take over you now, your bondage to sin. That's why I like.
When you talk to men and women who are in this lifestyle, it's never enough. It's never satisfying. It's always the next person. Oh, I got to do this. I got to do. got to sleep with this person. I got to sleep with that person XYZ. And you know, at a time I wanted to sleep with like hundreds of women. And it's just like looking back now is like so demonic. It goes a perversion of of the love that I wanted to have with one woman. But it was like I felt like I wanted to do it with everybody. And, some people would argue against that, like it's not really perversion, like what's so wrong?
With doing that, I think that's the danger of not lacking wisdom is that now you're wise in your own eyes, as it says in chapter four. So let's go actually into, it's a bit of a background of what we learned so far. I kind of got the sidetracked, but in verse one in the study, and this keeps coming up is that wisdom is something we must. it says, my son attend onto my wisdom and bow down to ears to my understanding. So wisdom is something that
we must handle, pay attention to, stay focused on, because that's what we learned in Proverbs 1 is that wisdom as well gives instructions that she is not just a symbolic or metaphorical crying out as it says in Proverbs 1, but is literally waiting for anyone to listen to her. In Proverbs chapter 3, it talks about not being wise in your own sight, which is what we touched upon, and instead to fear the Lord and depart from evil.
Jethro Casie (09:38.261)
So wisdom truly works when our eyes are on Jesus and not ourselves. Because when you think of the reason why Satan fell, it's because he was looking at himself, all the things that God had given him and forgot to keep his eyes on his creator.
And we also see that in chapter two, that wisdom is something that a man has to find, has to actively search out. So that's why I'm like, if you're coming across this YouTube channel, it's not for no reason. Like you're literally seeking after something divine. It's a divine connection.
And we also see that in verse one that we should listen to those who have gained wisdom in life. Here this is, we could assume it's Solomon talking to his son. And we know that Solomon was a man who had hundreds of wives and gock and mines and who's not say like prostitutes and all this other stuff that happened during his time in the kingdom, because we know that he departed. He got, let idols come into his life. And I think that's why a few of the other
versions. So warning against I said idolatry warning against adultery. But in reality, like a woman can become an idol in your life or women can become idle in your life. There's so many men and just people out there in general who idolize the opposite sex for validation for self worth for wanting to feel good. And the things with those all of that is vanity all of that is fleeting all of that is going to take something from you more than it can gain from you.
So that's why the Lord is calling us to, and I'm not perfect. Like I stumble. I have fallen into a sexual morality by God's grace. I have defeated things. And I just want to say this is that condemnation is not for those in Christ Jesus. So if you've fallen recently, or if you've even been thinking about where you've fallen before in the past is like, don't condemn yourself. That's going to be your testimony to testify to somebody else. Cause the word of God says that we overcome the devil by the blood of the lamb and by the words of our testimony. So
Jethro Casie (11:39.404)
That shame that you may have now, God is going to change that into something to where he can bring glory to himself. And I think that's the wisdom. That's part of the wisdom of Proverbs. And of chapter five is that there's so many people who seem to have good intentions for you. It says in the KJV for. For the lips of a strange woman drop as a honeycomb, it seems sweet on the inside, on the outside, and her mouth is smoother than oil. Everything seems perfect, but.
You know, it even talks about it in, I believe, Matthew and the, and the, and somewhere in the gospels, but these wolves who are in sheep's clothing. So it looks sweet on the outside. They look like a Christian on the outside. That's how the, and I, can testify of this because when I was even at my corporate job, it was a bit different, but people who, you know, normally would just be, I guess, normal people per se.
at like any of these events where people are drinking, it seems like there's a spirit behind them, like enticing me, trying to get me to drink, know, tempting me. So I think it's being prepared that and using and having wisdom that these things are going to come to pass. Will you heed the voice as as man was saying when he when he testifies or your own iniquities shall take over you? See, I asked also my girlfriend about, you know, what would
It says in 5 and 6, her feet go down to death in the KJV, her steps take hold on hell. Lest thou shouldst ponder the path of life, her ways are movable, that thou canst know them. And what that means in just plain English is, but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double edged sword. Actually, that's something I want to touch upon is that, you know, it says in verse four, but her end is bitter as warm wood.
Sharp as a two-edged sword. And we know that the word of God is a two-edged sword. So it's like a false word of God. It's a false sense of security. What does the word of God gives you? It gives you comfort, security, faith, fulfillment, all these other things. It's promises, right? It's a plan. It's a proof of what God is going to do. But this lady gives you a bitter end that's as sharp as a two-edged sword. So instead of receiving the true word that you were supposed to receive,
Jethro Casie (14:01.463)
You receive a false word that not only cuts you, but cuts your life short. Jesus. And I can personally say this. Like I know, people in my family, I believe like my great uncle or something like had like syphilis or something, something like that, like some sexual disease. And he was a player and like in his younger days, all these other things started happening to him at an older age because of it. But says in verse six, she gave no, gives no thoughts to the way of her life.
Her paths wander aimlessly, but she does not know it. And I was asking my girlfriend as I was mentioning about this and she said, was like, yeah, was like, babe, what type of, like what thought process would you personally have to go get to, to like be this type of woman? And she's obviously a woman of God. like you have to, I think this comes from like a compassion, empathy place. It's like, where are these people going through? Like if this person is leading people to hell.
What word can you preach? Because everybody who's onto hell still needs a path or a way to get to Jesus and it's up to us to preach the gospel and that's wisdom. Well, she said this lady, this woman is in a place of pain and trying to just feel something even at the expense of others. She might be bitter at the world, maybe even feeling hopeless. And even though sexual immorality fails,
or fills that temporary pain. It's not truly what she wants. She wants love. She wants to be desired. But maybe that's the only time that she truly feels like herself, feels powerful, feels in control, which is ultimately why, because this woman is so control driven, would lead you to death. And just touch upon a few verses before we end. 11 to 13.
It says, and now more than at the last, when I flesh in my body or consumed and say, how have I hated instruction and my heart despise or proof and have not obeyed the voice of my teachers. I want to climb my ear to them that instructed me. So it talks about the regret that you'll have after living a life where you just decided to indulge in sexual pleasures. And I, I know this is specifically in context talking about like sexual pleasures, but
Jethro Casie (16:27.809)
And how much more does it talk about discipline? Like another verse that says like, how, instead of how I hated instruction, how have I hated discipline? Because the Lord is truly with those. And when I say with those in the sense that like, you'll see the manifestation of God of those who are disciplined. Jesus himself was a very disciplined man. All great men and women are disciplined. And there are people who hearken onto instruction, hearken onto wisdom.
They're teachable. They're willing to learn, willing to change. But when you're stubborn in your ways, when you think that you are wise in your own eyes, as Proverbs talks about, then you'll be quick to fall. You'll be quick to give what you have onto the world. Give your your wealth. That's what it talks about to strangers. And I would really implore you, guess, I never use that word, but I'll implore you to really meditate and think about before whether you're a woman or your man are considering
sleeping with somebody before marriage and like being intimate with somebody is like, it worth it? Is it worth for your honor to go on to others? Is it worth indulging for temporary pleasure? To in reality losing your, says here, your honor, your respect, reputation and your wealth to strangers.
And what I want to just end off with is verse 21. says, for the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord and he pondereth all his goings. And a revelation that was revealed to me is that the eyes of the Lord are also angels. represent, because God is on his throne and he's still not moving like what God says that he wrested from his work.
Angels are really the ones like operating here and moving and doing the work of the Lord.
Jethro Casie (18:29.569)
And the eyes of the Lord, if you do a deep study onto it, not even deep study, but if you do a little bit of a word study, is that they're directly tied to his spirits, his presence, and his awareness.
So let's read it again. the ways of the man are before the eyes of the Lord, are before his spirits, meaning the seven spirits of God, are before his presence and before his awareness. And he pondereth all his goings. So the Lord, even in your sin, obviously we know this is seeing you.
but he's also wanting to draw you back to his presence. He's wanting to you still to be filled with his seven spirits. He's still aware of you, asking you, don't sin. He's made a way. That's the tough part is that the word of God says that in every temptation, the Lord will give you a way, it's up to us to choose it.
So my prayer for all of us on this fifth day of Proverbs on August 5th is...
Jethro Casie (19:44.855)
Five stands for the number of grace. pray that the grace, the grace, the grace, the grace to.
reject any strange person in our lives, anybody who's immoral in our lives to do what the Lord has called us to do and stay focused and disciplined. So I pray that you will hearken on to these words of wisdom. I know it's not easy, but God is a God who can give you strength and through all things it's possible. So under to the end that there is a trial by fire that you have to go through. But when we to look like Christ that I learned in church or
that they re-emphasize in church, because sometimes I forget personally, is to look like Christ, is to be in full surrender and to allow the Lord Jesus to do the work through you and not to try and do every work yourself. So I hope this bless you guys in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
