The Brain’s Body Podcast: The Brain Is the Body
Host by Dr. Christopher K. Slaton
The Brain’s Body Podcast (presented by Brain Talk Books) is an audio companion to Dr. Christopher K. Slaton’s Education and Science series and related titles. Using human systems science—the study of brain, body, and sense events—each episode explores “brain–body–sense experience” and the everyday message behind behavior. Grounded in Dr. Slaton’s signature framework—“The brain is the body” and “The Brain’s Body is a Learning System”—the podcast connects what happens in the body to how we live, learn, think, and respond.
Across home, school, neighborhood, and workplace networks, the show focuses on practical ways to support children, families, and professionals—especially when information processing is stressed and a parent or child is in crisis. Episodes include case discussions and listener-driven questions that model Dr. Slaton’s approach: talk to the child’s brain, not the child’s body. From big feelings and conflict to the crisis of self, listeners leave with simple language, reflection prompts, and next-step tools for improving learning, participation, and self-awareness.
Brain Talk Books is a publishing imprint of Progressive Investment Group Press established to disseminate Christopher K. Slaton’s literature in Human Systems Science, with particular attention to brain–body–sense events and their implications for learning, self-regulation, and relational dynamics. Across books and companion media, the imprint advances a structured, practice-oriented framework for interpreting behavioral communication and for supporting parents, educators, and health and human service professionals in applied settings.

How Your Brain and Body Trade Signals in The Crisis of Self

Your body can be loud, fast, and convincing and sometimes it answers the world before you even know what you feel. I’m Dr. Christopher K. Slayton, and I’m taking you deeper into what I call the crisis of self: the moment your sense path and your receive path stop cooperating, and you get locked into a behavioral pattern you can’t seem to interrupt. We walk through a human systems science view of mental health and self-awareness where the brain is the information processing system of the body. I break down the idea of neural feed, environmental feed, and sense messaging, then show how life feels different when the brain is in the lead versus when the body takes over. When the body leads, a static mood state can interrupt the flow of information, making it harder to access thought, reflection, and insight right when you need them. We also treat emotions as usable signals, not character flaws. I explain why fear, anger, and anxiety can show up when the brain body connection is strained, and I offer simple translations that make the signals easier to work with: frustration as confusion, disappointment as awareness, and hostility as internal disagreement. If you’ve been wondering why you react the way you do, this gives you language and a framework to start changing the pattern. If you want to go deeper, I also share how to join my Introduction to Human Systems Science session. Subscribe, share this with someone who feels stuck in reaction mode, and leave a review so more people can find the show.

Meet The Brain Talker
SPEAKER_00I am Dr. Christopher Kevin Slate, aka The Brain Talker, Dr. Slate Live. Now we're talking about the crisis itself. We're gonna keep talking about the crisis itself because healing time cannot happen by itself. So what we're talking about is an effective strategy. You have a state of mind, and that state of mind is the way you respond to contact. And you can't help yourself because you're locked into a behavior pattern. So that's what we're talking about. So when we talk about the crisis self, that sense and receive path disconnect.

Defining The Crisis Of Self
SPEAKER_01Welcome to the Brain's Body Podcast, where the brain talks back. I'm your host, Dr. Christopher K. Slayton, and today we're going deeper into the crisis of self. Today we're continuing the dialogue on healing the crisis of self through brain, body, and sense messaging and why that dialogue matters to how you live, feel, and respond. Let's start with this.
Brain Body Senses Framework
SPEAKER_01The brain is the information processing system of the body. In human system science, the brain is the neural feed, the body is the environmental feed, and the senses are the neural, environmental, physiological feed. When the brain is in the lead of the body, you can feel how your senses transfer information. In the brain's body learning systems, the brain wears the body as a sign of cognitive processing, physical discipline, and focused action.
How Emotions Signal Misalignment
SPEAKER_01But when the body is in the lead of the brain, you cannot sense and feel the transfer of information in the same way because you are in a state of mind, a static mood state that interrupts the flow. That is what I call the crisis of self, when the sense path does not cooperate with the received path in the transfer of memory and emotion from the experience of your environmental self to your neural self. In that condition, the body wears the states of your mind. And those states can show up as fear, anger, and anxiety when you do not want to feel the brain and body connections to thought, reflection, and insight. In other words, the process cycles memory and emotion through environmental influences, whether that influence is another person, an object, or an event. Frustration is a sign of confusion. Disappointment is a sign of awareness. Hostility is a sign of internal disagreement. This is more than theory. It is a conversation about how the brain responds when the self is in crisis.

SPEAKER_01The receive path sends thought with reflection forward as neural feed. If you are ready to go deeper, join me on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026, for Introduction to Human Systems Science, How the Brain Talks Back. You will learn how to change negative states of mind that affect how you sense mental health and receive self awareness. Thank you for listening.
