SPEAKER_06

Welcome to another edition of the Motorcycle Mayhem Radio Podcast, hosted by Johnny Rizzo, where we talk about everything motorcycle, from tips on safe riding, to apparel and accessories, to where the next events are, and everything in between. So, let's mount up and drive. Hey Johnny, where are we going this time?

SPEAKER_00

The views and opinions expressed on this program are not necessarily those of this station, JVC Broadcasting Management, or its sponsors.

SPEAKER_10

What's up, everybody? What's up, Long Island? What's up, Irish Pat?

SPEAKER_12

Hey, Johnny, what's going on?

SPEAKER_11

How are you doing today?

SPEAKER_12

I'm doing okay.

SPEAKER_11

You look uh mighty uh swifty over there.

SPEAKER_12

You got your scarf out? You ready to go? I always have my scarf on, you know.

SPEAKER_11

Oh yeah. So I'm very excited to say that we have somebody in the studio tonight. We haven't had on a show in a while.

SPEAKER_12

It's been a little bit.

SPEAKER_11

So I'd like to introduce you, everybody, out there, from the Long Island Bait, the president, the head honcho, Mr. Chris Beckins. What's up, Chris?

SPEAKER_08

Hey, what's going on, Johnny? How you doing? Fantastic. It's been a while since we had you in the studio, man. It's yeah, it's been a while. We got a lot of stuff going on. We've been busy in a lot of different areas.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, you have been. And you know, so tell us about what's going on with you now because the the season is just about here. I mean, the the weather's still not quite where I want it to be personally.

SPEAKER_12

Oh, I know. The winter's holding on.

SPEAKER_11

They were so right. What do you call that thing? The uh the farmer's almanac? Yeah, not that the uh the animal, the beaver. What is it? The uh groundhog, there you go.

SPEAKER_12

There you go.

SPEAKER_11

The groundhog, what are they? See your shadow? How does it work?

SPEAKER_12

See, it takes like six more weeks of winter.

SPEAKER_11

And it's right. It's been about that long.

SPEAKER_08

It's been longer than that, now not for nothing. We got it pretty good in the past couple years, so we would do it.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, you're right. I mean, at least there's no more snow in Castilla, I'm hoping.

SPEAKER_08

And with all the rain, it washes all the stuff off the roads, hopefully, some of the sands.

SPEAKER_11

There's still snow out there if you look in some spots.

SPEAKER_08

There's still a little spots in the parking lot where they had a pile of pies.

SPEAKER_11

Little mounds, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_08

Residual.

SPEAKER_11

But I gotta tell you though, you know, uh when I came back from Florida about what, two weeks ago?

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, about that.

SPEAKER_11

Well, I'm down to Philadelphia working, it was 84 degrees one day. It's like, you know, how is this weather crazy? And the next thing you know, it's down to 21 again.

SPEAKER_08

What's going on here? Oh, yeah. Mother Nature's going through menopause. One day she's angry, one day she's mad, she's hot, she's cold.

SPEAKER_10

You ain't kidding me, man.

SPEAKER_08

It's crazy.

SPEAKER_10

So we got uh a lot of things going on. Uh like I said, the writing's just about back.

SPEAKER_11

And Chris, you're all out there all the time, man. Absolutely. So when does it actually start for you? And what is it?

SPEAKER_08

Well, it really doesn't stop. I mean, we get like three weeks from December to January, our first meeting. And at that time, we still got to schedule who's gonna come and swear us in and stuff. So we're still doing stuff. And then, you know, it's game on after that. January 1st, we start planning, not January 1st, but you know, first meeting of the month, we start planning every other events once the new board is in place. And then it's just it's just constant chaos all throughout the year between uh the New York the traffic safety board meetings and all the different events. We have our awareness run, there's veterans run, the camp out, the St. Mary's run. But that's only your events, though. Yeah, and then we're out and about other events.

SPEAKER_11

Right, you're everywhere else. I mean, you see that yellow tent, you're gonna see either Josephine or Chris or Pat there. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_08

So absolutely. We started doing uh, yeah, we've been doing the classes in the high schools and stuff with the driver's ed classes. We did over 4,000 students last year. We're on more on board to beat that this year, hopefully by a decent amount. We'll see what happens. Um and then we started doing like um road captain courses. We're actually educating the riders, which is pretty cool. Yeah, we did one of the posts 48 and they teamed up with a bunch of other posts, 111 and a couple others. Like a refreshment course, like, it's kind of like it's what it is, is it's like before an event, during event, after event, and what if.

SPEAKER_11

Right.

SPEAKER_08

You know, so it basically you can't block traffic in New York State. Right. But if you were to do it, there is a safe way to do it. You know, and then you know, the planning the event, the paperwork, the insurance, of course it's AMA sponsored. So, you know, they want to push you know the their membership, which is good because it adds volume to the voice of motorcyclists across the country, you know, it's another motorcycle rights organization, you know, and national. And uh it's really it's it was good. It was very well received. We have a lot of inquiries about it. We want to get more people involved. You know, we'll probably do a few more throughout the year.

SPEAKER_11

Wow. That's incredible. So when you say your board, you get a new board every year or is it the same board?

SPEAKER_08

But we get a new board every year. Elections, the uh nominations and elections are October, November. December, we don't have a meeting. That's usually just when we have the holiday party. So the elections are in November's meeting. And then everybody gets installed in January. First meeting of the year, you know. Wow. And uh we we don't have time limits, unfortunately. No, well one of these years we might install those. This is you know, give people a break. But you know, not while you're around. We love doing it. We have a great time, we have a good board, we're on board with making a difference. We really are. Um, we start doing personalized uh presentations at different clubs and riding groups again. So it gives them everybody a one-to-one on who we are, what we do, and the depth of what we do. Absolutely. Like you say, people see the 10 out there, it's out there, whether it's me, Pat, Donna, Josephine, whoever. Uh Constantine's been out there a few times, um, but they don't know the depth of what we do. Right. We give them that in the personalized presentation, of course, with hopes of support and membership. And once they realize how much we really do, because we're all volunteers, it's not a paid position. Yeah. They realize, wow, you guys do a lot. Yeah, I have the passion for it. And they're on board for for sponsoring and helping us, you know.

SPEAKER_11

And don't think if you don't have a Holly, like Pat, if you don't have a Holly, you can't join the Long Arm Debate because I just saw the Long Arm Debate at a bike night about three weeks ago, two weeks ago, over uh in Hicksville, and that was all rice rockets over there.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, Cycle Gear actually had it, and we were there, we were guests there. We had a we had a tent set up. I was there. It was good, yeah. It was decent, decent showing from what I heard.

SPEAKER_11

You know, it was an incredible show. But you know what though? I gotta say this from me doing my bike nights that I used to do, that you gotta respect the place that you're doing the bike night at.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

Because these guys, they lit up that gas station next door.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, did they?

SPEAKER_11

They lit it up.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, really?

SPEAKER_11

They were doing burnout. You couldn't even get gas. If anybody wants to get gas there, it wasn't happening.

SPEAKER_08

That's a problem.

SPEAKER_11

And that is a problem because what happens is now the cops are gonna come.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

And who's gonna get to hear about it? The psycho gear.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, whoever's promoting it, right?

SPEAKER_11

So, you know, it it's a problem where go out, go to the bike line and enjoy yourself. You know, I don't know. Did they have bands there at that one? I don't I don't know.

SPEAKER_08

I don't know if they had a band. I wasn't there. Constant was there. I know they had a I think they had a food truck. I think they had a lot of.

SPEAKER_11

There was a food truck there.

SPEAKER_12

Which is why Johnny was there.

SPEAKER_11

That's exactly why I was there. I saw I smelt the food truck from like three miles away. You know what I mean? You don't need GPS.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, Spidey sensors. You don't need GPS.

SPEAKER_11

No, no, it's I smell burgers.

SPEAKER_08

There you go.

SPEAKER_11

So but you know, we I went there just to check it out, you know, maybe uh talk to some people, get some people on board with the show, whatever. And I realized I go, oh, it's not like a normal bike night that we're used to, that I'm used to.

SPEAKER_09

Right.

SPEAKER_11

Where we have the Harleys and blah blah blah. Um, you know, like rice rockets, most likely.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, they're all sport bikes. A lot of sports bikes. There's a couple of dual purpose, I guess, or the ADVs, they call them adventure bikes.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Um, but not a lot of cruisers. No. But that's okay because you're d we we're looking to expand into that group, you know.

SPEAKER_11

We had the Long Island Street Riders, we had uh But that's the ones you have to really expand to because not for nothing. Yeah, I don't see anybody on a Harley or a dresser that's doing crazy stuff in the roads.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

But those, you know, those guys are kind of known for like wheelies and all kinds of crazy stuff like that. So they're the ones that I think you gotta reach out to besides the the cars. Because people don't know anything about motorcycles, they don't know. They think in a motorcycle, hey, you can stop one, two, three. Yeah, you're not gonna stop one, two, three. You need to educate those people as well.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, absolutely.

SPEAKER_11

And what you're doing by going to the schools, you're starting them young.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, we get them before the bad habits start, you know, when they get behind the wheel, they're they're more aware of the motorcycles and they're doing the right thing. You know, and they don't they don't overreact or underreact, hopefully, with motorcycles. We we've been doing so well with that. Like the presenters are getting high fives, you know, pounds fist pounds. I mean, they'll they're getting thanked. I mean, they're loving it, you know.

SPEAKER_11

Right.

SPEAKER_08

So it's definitely making a difference. I mean, I say that all the time. Together we can make a difference, and I truly believe we are.

SPEAKER_11

Absolutely. Absolutely you can, man. I mean, and you gotta be in it. You gotta know what you do, you gotta respect your bike. And if you're gonna go to a bike night, respect it, you know.

SPEAKER_08

Well, you gotta respect everybody and everything, you know. Absolutely. That's exactly what I think. We're trying with them. It's it's definitely a work in progress.

SPEAKER_11

No, you guys come a long way. And along the bait has come a long way from where it was to where it is now. And I think you are the big part of making that difference.

SPEAKER_08

We're we're trying to, you know, do a little more on the awareness and and the safety stuff, you know.

SPEAKER_11

When you go to an event, is that something that you decide you're gonna do, or we have to have a board meeting?

SPEAKER_08

Usually, if we get invited, we'll talk about it. So you get invited to these events? Yeah, a lot of times we get invited. You know, sometimes I'll inquire if they're having an event, you know, a lot of the bike blessings, a lot of the big annual events we show up at. Um, they ask us to show up because you know, we're out there for the community, everybody that's out there, you know. And and not for nothing, it doesn't hurt to have us out there. Yeah, because it it's it gives everybody exposure, gives everybody knowledge. You know, we have the free signs, we have a lot of information that's available, a lot of networking possibilities too, because we're not just about riding and safety and stuff, it's about the community.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_08

You know, so you actually get, you know, hey, I need a guy to work on my bike, or I need uh my house cleaned, or whatever. Everybody knows somebody that's in the community.

SPEAKER_11

I know a guy.

SPEAKER_08

I got a guy. He'll be a girl too, you know, but whatever.

SPEAKER_11

Which is true. Because, you know, they look at bikers. Bikers, we do the other radio show that we do, you know, it's called Motorcycle Mayhem Radio, but we go off topic a lot because it ain't just about the motorcycles, it's the motorcycle lifestyle. Bikers, they go to restaurants, right? And that's part of it. Getting on your bike and taking a ride to go find clams somewhere, go get go get a uh crab sandwich somewhere.

SPEAKER_08

Support local business.

SPEAKER_11

Right, support local businesses. You know, hey, there's a great burger down there. Let's take a ride and get it. I mean, that's what it's all about. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_08

So we also do the merchant in the spotlight, too. If you support Long Island of Bait and we provide discounts to members and stuff, we also promote your organization. Right. And uh, you know, it helps, like I said, it helps keep the community strong. Yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_11

SPEAKER_12

Yes, we do.

SPEAKER_10

What do we have over there?

SPEAKER_12

We have the lovely and beautiful And Skinny. And Skinny.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god, here we go. You look great. Thank you.

SPEAKER_12

Josephine. Josephine, yeah. We gotta we gotta match your name. We're doing everything else.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, describing me.

SPEAKER_11

Josephine, you look fantastic. Thank you, John. I gotta tell you. Thank you. You know, I I uh I I actually am proud to say I beat Manjoro.

SPEAKER_02

I beat it.

SPEAKER_11

I took it, I ate more. No, I actually lost, I lost like 20-something pounds myself. Excellent. You know what I mean? But I not where I should be. I know people on Manjoro that got really skinny. But me, I still I still have the eating problems though. I still can't I can't I can't get rid of the junk food.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I beat anorexia too.

SPEAKER_11

I beat it, yeah, I beat it, you know. So uh Dawn laughed at me because you said you're on this Manjoro. I said, I beat it. I beat Manjoro, you know.

SPEAKER_12

By the way, on my way into the studio today, I actually felt bad for you. Really? I did, and I'm gonna tell you why. Why? Because I was on my way in, I'm I'm coming up to the corner of like Cormac and 25 right before the studio. Right. And they tore down the White Castle. They're building a new one. Yeah, way.

SPEAKER_04

I just noticed that too.

SPEAKER_12

They tore down the White Castle. I just thought, oh my God. Yeah, they're but they're remodeling it. I know they're remodeling it still.

SPEAKER_11

I was one of the first 20 customers there when it first opened. Shocker. Because this is my town. What year was that? Uh 82, 83, maybe. Wow. I was one of the first 20. Me and my brother, we got all kinds of free White Castle. And that's when the food was better back then. Even Castle was better.

SPEAKER_08

I think it was your it was the time in your life that was better. Probably, yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

I was able to eat what I want. See, the thing of White Castle is you get you gotta know, is when you're in your 20s, you can eat White Castle every day and does nothing to you. You get to your 30s, maybe every other day. You get to your 40s, you're like, uh, what am I doing tomorrow? All right, you gotta you gotta prepare yourself. And then when you get to your 50s, you're like, all right, what have I got going on all week?

SPEAKER_03

It just does not taste the same.

SPEAKER_12

You know, you know, never mind that. And not to mention, you eat white castle, now you're officially on the clock.

SPEAKER_11

That's true.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, that's true. You eat the white castle, you gotta make I said I'm not going anywhere for three hours.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, you're right. You want whiteies tonight? All right, what do we do tomorrow? No, we're going on a road trip tomorrow. We get no white castle today. You know Jack in the Box? I was just gonna remember. Oh, yes. Yes.

SPEAKER_08

I knew that said tacos.

SPEAKER_11

Oh I said this last week. Jack in the Box. I haven't had Jack in the Box here in about 40 years, 30 something years. Didn't they call it Jack's? It was Jack's, right. Then I went to a rock festival in North Carolina, probably about nine years ago, and there was a jack in the box right in the parking lot of the hotel. So we were all like little kids. Oh my god, Jack, we couldn't wait to go. We're gonna go. And I gotta tell you, after 40 years, they didn't do not one thing to improve themselves. It was amazing. It was like, and all those memories came shooting back. You get the taco with the grease coming out of the bottom, right? On the bag, and the horse meat, they used to say.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, the uh hard tacos actually the soft taco by the time you get to it.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, exactly. But that was eaten. I remember there used to be a Hardy's in in Long Island.

SPEAKER_08

Yes, I remember Horde's. You remember Hardy's? Yeah, over by Smith Haven Mall by Pathball.

SPEAKER_11

Was it out there? Well, I didn't remember what it was, but that was.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, it became a Roy Rogers. Oh, Roy Rogers. What it was, it was great. We used to go there at like 10 to 10 and get all the food, all the free food at the end of the night because my friend worked there.

SPEAKER_11

Do you know, really?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, we used to get all the chicken.

SPEAKER_11

Do you know that in Oceanside there was a Waffle House?

SPEAKER_08

No.

SPEAKER_11

There was a Waffle House in the ocean in Oceanside back in the day. I remember seeing the sign. The black and yellow sign in Waffle House. But they get they got rid of it.

SPEAKER_12

I don't know why, but it's a boxing gym now.

SPEAKER_11

I'll tell you. But Waffle House was great back in the day, too. I mean, it still is. Yeah. You know, I on the way to Florida, it's like one of the stops. Besides Bucky's.

SPEAKER_12

Besides Bucky, it's gotta be Bucky's.

SPEAKER_04

No, I don't know.

SPEAKER_11

Probably depending on which state you're in. Maybe yeah, depending on the state, I'm sure. But wow. When we were in Daytona, every morning, Dawn's like, I'm going, I was like, I'm gonna get us coffee. So I'd go to Starbucks for Dawn and then stuff at Waffle House for me. Right? But then by the end of the week, she's like, just get me to Waffle House because the Starbucks breakfasts are horrible. But you know, you gotta get there. They're greasy, disgusting breakfast. But they got great waffles, I gotta tell you, they have incredible waffles. Yes.

SPEAKER_12

Great times. Well, you would hope if their name's called Wap Waffle House. It's like going to IHOP. Yeah, well you know, and and getting bad pancakes.

SPEAKER_11

Well, that one time, that one year we went to Daytona and Chris went to Crystals and bought us a whole case back. Remember, Chris? Mm-hmm. Now that tries to be like White Castle. It's actually, I think, a healthier version. It's a healthier version. Which on potato rolls and stuff? Right, well, no. You you who's gonna put lettuce or tomato on a White Castle burger? It just doesn't happen. It's not the same sentence, lettuce. Why no? It doesn't work that way.

SPEAKER_04

Right. I just can't eat any of that stuff no more. Now you have you do you don't have the taste for it? Um, I have a taste for it, but bread and stuff now after the gastric bypass surgery. You just don't have the room now, though. Well I don't have the room, but a lot of things hurt. Like bread really can't process it. It bothers me. Rice too heavy, too much.

SPEAKER_11

You know, when I first started the Mangioro, I had a candy bar, right? Okay. Because they go together, you know?

SPEAKER_12

Of course they do.

SPEAKER_11

And I gotta go watch it though. I felt sick after I ate the candy bar. So I was like, well, maybe that's what the Majoro's doing because But then I got over that. You know what I'm saying? That's how you beat it. That's how I beat it, exactly. You got over it. That's good to see. I got past it. You know what I'm saying? But you know, uh maybe that's what I thought was was happening. Like that's how you lose the weight, because you eat something bad that makes you feel sick. I don't I don't know. But whatever. Tell you one thing. We're having some Fat Boys Burrito tonight.

SPEAKER_10

Yes, we are.

SPEAKER_11

And that Fat Boys Burrito is amazing. Uh I had it before.

SPEAKER_04

You've had it, but you can't eat it now. Yes, I can't eat it now, but yes, I've had it before.

SPEAKER_11

But me, Pat, and Chris are eating it. Yes. Fat Boys Burrito, they got it.

SPEAKER_08

It was Fat Boys and Girls back then.

SPEAKER_11

Well, yeah, that's right. Fat Boys Burrito got these amazing burritos, guys. If you're out there, you're looking for some place to go to lunch. They got locations everywhere. They got them uh East Northport here. They got them in Belmore. They have them out in Patchog. And there's another one that didn't open up yet. I'm not gonna say where it is. I'm not an open allowed to say where it is. But I found it by accident. I gotta tell you, I found it by accident, and it was awesome. But um your taco sensors tingling. Yeah, exactly. But they have these breakfast burritos pad. Oh, good.

SPEAKER_08

Yes, I believe.

SPEAKER_12

I will never stop talking about those breakfast burritos because I just remember the time they brought them in here. Yeah. They literally were the size of a football.

SPEAKER_11

I ate half. I ate half of it. So do I?

SPEAKER_12

I had to bring the rest of it home.

SPEAKER_08

You gotta eat them with two hands.

SPEAKER_11

No, you have to. It's humongous. So they got catering too. They got they got a food truck and they do catering. So summer's coming in back. Yeah. So if you're having a barbecue and you're having people come over, you don't want to overload a barbecue, you get fat boy burrito there too. Right? Tacos, empanadas. What'd you get tonight, Pat? You got um empanadas. You got the empanadas? Gotta pull empanadas. Me and me and Chris got the smash burgers.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_11

We got the smash burgers from there, man.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, how do you think? Yeah, it's a it's a first for me. We'll see how it is.

SPEAKER_11

No, no, I tell you for me, it's a first. Is it a first?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

Oh, it's like a treat, man.

SPEAKER_08

We'll have to do a review of it.

SPEAKER_11

We will do a review on our eight o'clock show, our Facebook show, yes, of the Smash Burger from Fat Boys, which I think is one of the best items they got, you know? But one thing I love is their bowls. Yeah, little bites. They're bowls. They got these rice bits.

SPEAKER_12

Oh, the bowls are phenomenal.

SPEAKER_11

You get either barbecue or teriyaki chicken with pineapple in the bowl.

SPEAKER_12

Oh, the teriyaki chicken screw.

SPEAKER_04

I think I got that as a burrito. That one. You can't get that as a burrito. Oh my god. And that was my first turnaround to uh Fat Boy Burrito.

SPEAKER_11

It was delicious.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

So check out Fat Boy Burrito. And another thing I want to I want to push out there too, guys. Milwaukee Clothing Company. Yes. You gotta check it out. Go to Milwaukee Leather. Milwaukee Clothing Company, same thing basically. Use promo code Mayhem. And they got amazing stuff. One stop shop right there. Milwaukee Clothing Company. Milwaukee Leather. You go in there, boots, they got even helmets. They got jackets, vests. Pants. Pants. They got the flannels.

SPEAKER_12

Alright, we are back on Motorcycle Mayhem Radio.

SPEAKER_12

Yes, Matt. I just realized now after seeing how how lovely Josephine looks and how much you know weight she's lost.

SPEAKER_11

I look really fat.

SPEAKER_12

Um, no. True story. I now realize, you know, if I stand actual when we take pictures together, we can form the number 10. Yeah? Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

How can we form the number 10?

SPEAKER_12

Simple, you're the one.

SPEAKER_11

Or we do the zero. Okay. Well, look at no, look at look at the brighter side. All four of us take a picture of you be number thousand. Oh my god. I said, I gotta get in the shape one day. Then I realize I go, this is my shape, right? Well, don't do the shape. You know what I mean? I mean, I checked in the other day at the gym. People are like, Wow, are you in the gym goof for you? I'm like, I'm just kidding. I'm at the deli next door. It was Jim, Jim's deli. Jim's deli. Jim's deli. Exactly.

SPEAKER_08

That's what they're gonna name a bar. They're gonna call it the gym. The gym bar. You go to the gym.

SPEAKER_11

In Jersey, they have the library. Right? In Babylon, they have the post office. Right. There's one in Farmadale 2, the library. Oh, yeah, in the library at Farmadale 2. And I know there's someplace the office is in uh Jersey, I believe. So yeah, we gotta go to the office. You gotta go, you gotta go.

SPEAKER_02

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_11

And then you check in at the office. And when your wife's looking for you, where are you? I'm at the office. And then when you find out, you're out drinking with your friends all day, you're sending out the office. I was at the office.

SPEAKER_12

Oh, it was great. There's this there's a sign over at Frogs over in Yapank. And it says, When your wife calls, how much you know, and when the wife calls, we tell her, and depending on how much you pay, is what they say. It's like if it's like a dollar, just miss him, he just left to like ten dollars. Never heard of him.

SPEAKER_11

I saw a great video on TikTok where this woman walks in a restaurant and she sees her husband. He's waiting. He's being a waiter. And she's like confused. She's like, What are you doing? He's like, I'm I'm working extra hours. You know, I got another job because you deserve everything. I love you so much. I want to give you the world, so I'm working all these hours. And she's like, Oh my god, honey, you're the best. She gives him a kiss. He goes, Now go home and I'll be home later. She goes, All right, so she leaves. Also, the guy, the old look, she's gone. He's just back down with his friends. He gives the way in the back of his coat. He's like, Thank you. Good stuff right there. Yeah, there you go. So we were talking about the long-arm debate, Josephine, and you're a very big part of the long-arm debate. What's your position?

SPEAKER_04

I am second VP.

SPEAKER_11

So you gotta get voted every year as well? Is it every year or every three years?

SPEAKER_04

Nope, every year. Every year. Every year, yeah.

SPEAKER_11

Wow. Guys, ever have to kick anybody out besides Pat?

SPEAKER_04

No, we haven't kicked Pat out. Oh, I thought maybe because he's not the volunt hold. He's always at my own.

SPEAKER_11

He had a Kawasaki, he had to go. No. Oh, okay. No, no, no. So what is the whole procedure of being voted back in? Just uh everybody just takes a silent vote, nobody knows who's one for who?

SPEAKER_04

No, membership uh usually uh votes us in. Right.

SPEAKER_11

No, is there ever a time where someone's going up against you that wants to be second vice president? No, nobody wants our spots. I mean I want you to kid. I would never want to do what you guys do. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_08

No guts, no glory.

SPEAKER_11

Exactly. Like, you're gonna be set up at this event? No. No. No. I mean, with time. Now that's a question I got for you guys. Why does every run got to start at 8:30, 9 o'clock in the morning?

SPEAKER_03

That's what I want to do. Why? Especially on a Sunday. Exactly.

SPEAKER_11

You gotta understand something about me and dawn, all right? We don't have to understand anything, but you'd like us to days that we go to bed Friday night, and I don't get out of bed till Monday morning. Okay? There are days that we have these weekends where, especially if it's raining or snowing, we say it's a lazy weekend. We just ordering food, watch TV all day, and that's it.

SPEAKER_04

We got too much going on in our world.

SPEAKER_11

You got too much.

SPEAKER_04

Too much. See, I I've actually done this job from our bed, okay?

SPEAKER_11

I've actually swear I got my board.

SPEAKER_08

We were not in that bed just we could.

SPEAKER_11

No, yeah, just let's yeah. I have taken two microphones with the board, plugged the board in, hit her mic, we're laying in bed, and we actually did an hour radio show.

SPEAKER_12

No, and I was not there either. I just want that on the record.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, but we did do the same thing in Italy. I never mentioned Italy. No, never. Want to hear something funny? I took a pee in my parking lot last Friday. No. Okay. And this morning, I got out of my car and the stain was there and it was shaped of Italy.

SPEAKER_09

I'm not kidding. I was like, this is getting ridiculous now. All right, this is getting crazy.

SPEAKER_11

True story, brother. Where's everybody going? Where's everybody going? True story. But hey, it happens. So anyway, back to you.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, good. Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, try to follow that one up now.

SPEAKER_03

I was in the parking lot.

SPEAKER_11

What did you pee this morning? Just think. We do a parking lot practice, I show up. Johnny was there. You see, little Italy's all over the place. No. No. No? No, no. Anyway, so what is the position of the second vice president? Um who's the first vice president? Uh Nick. Now are you guys at the same level? Or can you say, I want the green shirt? He goes, ah no, no, no, no. I'm first vice president. We're going with the black one.

SPEAKER_04

Now we we all get along. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, there's never any real rank issue. It's all community. You know, we all vote on everything jointly with everybody.

SPEAKER_11

Oh, okay. I get it.

SPEAKER_08

It's not a dictatorship, you know.

SPEAKER_11

No, it's not a dictatorship. Well, that's good. That is good. Now you've been involved with the long on the bait for a long time.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, over 12 years. Twelve years.

SPEAKER_11

Really? So but how long have you been uh a second vice president?

unknown

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_04

Chris, how long have I been second VP bell? I'm gonna say three three, four years. Three, four years.

SPEAKER_08

At least. At least. Yes. Wow. I took over back in 2020. And then you were right when COVID started.

SPEAKER_11

There you go. Here you go, Chris.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, Jim stepped down in uh July of 2020, and then uh we got which actually was kind of good because you know, as much as COVID really s hurt a lot of stuff, uh it gave me a like a dress rehearsal. You know, we were able to actually get the the fundamentals of the organization without pressure, public. You know, we we did a lot of behind the scenes, we did a lot of um Zoom meetings and stuff, just try to keep the organization rolling, and then once we were able to, we were able to get back out in the community and do what we did. You know, let's face it, motorcyclists are not usually the most concerned about um certain things. Oh, yeah, yeah. Motorcycling is actually one of the first uh anti-social distancing you can do, you know. So motorcycles, the actual riders went up, the actual riding went up uh during COVID because people couldn't hang out together, so they jump on motorcycles and go back.

SPEAKER_11

But but you know what? On the other side of that coin now, which I had to deal with with my ex, she wouldn't she wouldn't get on the bike during COVID because she's like, if something happens, you really want to end up in the hospital now. So that was the only other side of that coin.

SPEAKER_04

I was going through hip replacements in 2020. Yeah, I was in the hospital in 2021 being in the hospital and uh, you know, I I didn't have it. Knockwood, I I never got it when I was in and out of the hospital for my hip replacements and everything. But I remember being in the ER at one point and people coming in after getting um the vaccines, and this one poor woman was half hour later after getting her second vaccine, broke out in in a ration cell and being rushed in. It was a scary. Did you ever get COVID?

SPEAKER_11

Uh yes, I did. I got it twice. I only had a stuffed nose, be honest with you. That was all I had.

SPEAKER_12

I'm lucky I never got a COVID.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_12

And I was lucky when I get the va I got the vaccine and I went through the whole thing. I had no reaction. So I've been so I I guess in that sense I ha I've been lucky, and I've always looked at it as like the body is its own chemistry set. You know, so it's experimental, so what works for me may not work for somebody else.

SPEAKER_11

Right. Did you get the uh the vaccine? No, I didn't. Neither did I. I would not I refuse to get it. My brother broke my chops every day. Johnny, you gotta get the vaccine. Johnny gotta get the vaccine. They're not gonna let you make deliveries in Manhattan. I said, I don't care. I ain't putting that in my body. I ain't doing it. You know, uh teriyaki is another thing. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_12

Well, that was kind of the joke I told people when people were giving me, you know, because I had the exact opposite. Some people were giving me a hard time about doing the vaccine. And I sit there, he's like, You're the same people who are going out going after the reservation, getting cigarettes, and going through the drive-thru in McDonald's, and I'm gonna worry about a shot. Leave me alone.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, McDonald's, at least. We know that's healthy stuff. My only problem is the way they marketed it. You know, you can do whatever you want for your sake, but they marketed it as like if you didn't do it, you were a heathen. And you know what? That's not necessarily true. You gotta do what's right for you, you know, in my opinion. Um, what works for you might not work for me. So don't push your agenda on me.

SPEAKER_12

I just thought it during that time it was just so hard because it was none of us had the experience of going through something like that. It was like a hundred years since the previous pandemic, so yeah, so none of us know. You know, so you know, so everyone was just kind of like I think a lot of people were just like reacting.

SPEAKER_08

Absolutely. I was I was looked down upon by certain members of my family and community because I didn't do it either. Right. And you know what? I'm still here. I got it three times, I don't have any health issues aside from being fat, uh which is not related to COVID. Um, you know, and and we're still here to talk about it.

SPEAKER_12

So good. And thank goodness. I was just for me, and because I come from the other side of it, I just saw when I heard so my thing is I never judged anybody, but I was just concerned because you saw all these coolers that you know, you just heard of these so many people just dying and they didn't have enough room for the dead bodies. Right. I was just like, and I just like I just didn't want to see anything happen to anyone, so that's why I think AI started a long time ago. So that's why I was like pro-vaccine, because I just want I wanted my friends and family to stay.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_12

You know, that's really that's that's all.

SPEAKER_11

That that's the way I look at it, like, you know what, the line of the drive to could be a lot shorter now. I mean, you gotta look at it that way. Well, it's true. It's true. Well, stay right there, guys.

SPEAKER_12

Go ahead.

SPEAKER_11

Stay right there. I am Johnny Ridge, listen to Motorcycle Man Radio. We'll be right back right after this.

And I was Pat. Big Chris Beckins and Josephine. Little Josephine. From Long Island debate. From Long Island debate with us, so awesome. You look great, like I said. And uh now we understand your position a little better.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_04

Right? Out there in the in the public eye, signing people up, doing memberships, doing going to clubs, doing meetings one-on-one, so we can tell people more about uh in-depth of what Long Island abate is, not just them seeing us out under a tent coming over, saying hello, hanging out, you know.

SPEAKER_11

Right.

SPEAKER_04

And uh networking and being in the school.

SPEAKER_11

Networking is the most important thing because you want more and more people to learn about Long Island Abate, learn about motorcycle safety, jump on board you guys, you know, you know when you have an event also. Yep. Yeah, you gotta do the camp out, man. That's that's just like killer.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, the camp out. That is a that is a great time to camp out. August 22nd this year, Markey Calendar. August 22nd this year.

SPEAKER_08

Yep. Yep, that's one of our biggest babies. It's a great time. Everybody has a great time doing it.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. Got the fires going, got the barbecues going, you got the bands going. You have a lineup yet or no?

SPEAKER_08

No, we're actually still working on that, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Excellent. It's in the planning.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, we we I camped out there for the first time last year. Yes, you did. So funny, we spent the night there, and we were the last people to leave, right? Because we didn't get up, like we sleep late every day. Yes. I don't think we got out of bed until like five o'clock the next day. You know what I mean? Out of the out of the tent, yes. Oh. That was fantastic. A lot of fun though, man. Oh, yeah. You know what's cool about that too? Because you had the music on after midnight last year. Yes. You had the uh the crucifix guy was amazing, by the way. Oh, yes, the acoustics. And it was like, I'm like, wow, it's like two o'clock in the morning, the music's still going. I'm like, this is awesome.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, we do the acoustics in the evening, it's nice.

SPEAKER_11

Excellent, you know. But of course, modern day, you know, me and me and Bella had the iPad watching TV the whole time. You know what I mean? We were really roughing it.

SPEAKER_12

She had a turbulence and he had his battery pack just in case it ran out. Just in case. You gotta say he was ready.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, yeah, had to be. So I want to do a quick shout-out to a woman called Mimi. Okay? Let me tell you a quick story what happened yesterday. So she owns a restaurant called uh Ikido. Okay, it's a Japanese, a modern Japanese restaurant. Okay? Uh let me just explain it to you because this is radio, so you gotta listen. They're they're located, they got one in Port Washington, she owns, and the other one's in Mineola, right? I believe the address was like 560 Miniola. Uh Jennifer Turnpike in Mineola. And it's in the shopping center. What's great about the shopping center, first of all? Whatever you want in the shopping center. First, you got Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Italian, American, all in the same shopping center. All these restaurants. So if you like that Japanese flavor, man, it is really good. And you like the ramen, the ramen?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, the ramen.

SPEAKER_11

So me and me and Bella went there. Now we do another show, me and Bella. It's not really a show. We do like, we have fun with it. We call it Bella and Johnny's Adventures. So we have a YouTube channel.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_11

And we call that, and we have a TikTok channel too. And we all the stuff from Italy, and not that I talk about Italy much, but you know, Italy and um the cruises that we've been on. We put all these really cool videos on those channels. So what we do is sometimes we'll go eat someplace and we'll film each other eating it and talk about the restaurant.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, critique it, okay.

SPEAKER_11

So we were at this place yesterday, and we were like, wow, this is amazing, you know. I'm getting a ramen, I'm getting teriyaki steak, we got all kinds of good food. And the woman came over to us, Mimi. She's like, What do you what are you guys doing? And so we told her, you know, I do my radio show, and Dawn does a podcast on breast cancer, and together we do a little fun thing that we do called Bellam and Johnny's Adventures, you know? So she's like, This is fantastic. This whole meal is on the house. All you're like, oh my god. Thank you, you gotta do that, but thank you. So we're she's actually gonna be on the uh eight o'clock show.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, awesome.

SPEAKER_11

So I got some video of the place so you can check it out. But this this is like a modern style Japanese restaurant, and they have the sushi bar. It's like a regular bar, but then you get sushi there, you can get drinks, or get regular food. Plus, they have the uh the and the inside you get coffee. I gotta try, like since I went to Italy, again, not that I talk about Italy a lot, right? But I try to keep the Italy on a low, you know?

SPEAKER_03

On the down low.

SPEAKER_11

But I fell in love with La Vaza. You ever have La Vaza coffee?

SPEAKER_08

No.

SPEAKER_11

Well, once you have La Vaza coffee, yeah, I've had that. It's amazing. So now I saw they have Japanese coffee. I'm like, Japanese coffee. I gotta check this out. So next time I go there, I'll be drinking some Japanese coffee. How do you say lavaz in Japan Japanese? Maybe it's I don't know.

SPEAKER_12

You're looking at the Irishman asking him how you say Lavaza in Japanese. Really?

SPEAKER_11

I'm talking to the wrong crowd here. Yeah, they really are. Yes. So check out, you know, it's called uh, what's it called? Uh I can't I can't pronounce it because um Ikido.

SPEAKER_12

Ikido.

SPEAKER_11

Ikido. Uh I-K-E-D-O. The eyes pronounced E. That I remember. So Ikido in Miniola. Ikido and Paul Washington. She owns both of them. She's a sweetheart of a woman. Go go get support her. Check her out, man. You'll love it. So, anyway, what else we got to talk about here, guys? You got any you got some stuff coming up? You got your awareness run coming up.

SPEAKER_08

Yes, we do. A lot of things going on. Yeah, we're actually in the midst of playing on the awareness run. It's pretty much in set in stone. Uh, we're gonna be going from Hop Hog, Denison Building to the Riverhead Elks Lodge, which is pretty much where it all began with us. We we started meetings there back in the day uh when we were part of the New Yorker Bait, that was our our home base, you know. So they've been with us forever. And uh yeah, we still like to include them in everything. They're a great bunch of people, they're doing a lot of good things too for the community as well. Yeah, we support each other. Um lot of stuff going on with veteran stuff going on. We're planning the veterans run. You know, we got uh just so much going on. We just did a stop the bleed class not too long ago where we had over 40 attendees for uh Stop the Bleed, which was really awesome.

SPEAKER_11

And uh I think all Rich Chaffee was there.

SPEAKER_08

Yes, yeah, we had a lot of things. It was a decent turnout, really, really was. Last year I think we had like 20-something people, 30 people. This year we had over 40. Yes. Um you know, we were just got we were in a uh St. Patrick's Day parade in Ron Concama. This is great. You know, anything to be out in the community and and see us, you know, let us be seen, and uh, you know, people ask, who is that? What is that? You know, and then we we talk about it, you know. So and then with the schools too, we're full effect with the schools. We got so many classes going on right now. Springtime, it's jamming. We have presenters in classes probably three days a week right now. Nice, you know, for the next couple weeks, you know, and then and then we get a break for a little while and then the summer classes come. And it's just a it's just just an awesome cycle. It really is great.

SPEAKER_11

Excellent. Well, you guys are very busy, which is great, and you got a great team with you. Pat, you've been there for a while, Alan.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, I don't know. I think I think just since Josephine became uh VP. I think either just after or just before.

SPEAKER_04

And Pat does a great job being out under the tents with us. He even sets up on his own when we can't make it. He's like, Yep, I'll I'll do it. No problem.

SPEAKER_12

Good job. Excellent. So this is why when when the Josephine and Chris say it's not a dictatorship, I just want to sit and say that is a lie. I don't get the volunteer. I just I get a phone call. What are you doing? Yeah, uh oh. Yeah, it's like I don't know. Yeah, exactly. I don't know. Well, I do. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_11

So check it out, guys. Boogie for the boobies is coming back. We have it every year. Rockin' the roll for a cure. It's uh uh Dawn Demillion's a three-time breast cancer survivor, you know? She has a major, major motorcycle run every year. This year's October 4th out of Massa Pigua. We'll get to all of that when we get a little closer. But right now, they got the Boogie's for the boobies coming out. Now, that's gonna be honored for the women who rock to have an all-woman uh bands playing.

SPEAKER_08

That's awesome.

SPEAKER_11

Which is gonna be great. And that's gonna be May 3rd at uh, where is it gonna be at? The Whiskey Rocks. TC's Whiskey Rocks in West Babylon. Oh, it is. So check that out. It's gonna be a huge day. We're gonna have some vendors there. There'll be a food truck there, there'll be food, uh raffles, all kinds of great stuff. If you've ever been to the boogie for the boobies, you know that dawn goes above and beyond with all that. So definitely jump on board, check that out. Uh all the money, all the proceeds goes to Rockin' the Roll for a cure to the patients. You know, whatever that they may need, whether it's food, a medical, or ride, a wig, or whatever they may need. So she's all over that. She's on top of all of that. So she does a great job. And uh, Rockin' the Roll for a Cure, go to rockin' the rough for a cure.org, check out what they do. You can make a donation right there, top right corner. Hit that donation button and uh you're in.

SPEAKER_09

Awesome.

SPEAKER_11

So check that out. But I want to thank everybody for listening to the show tonight. Hope everyone's driving home safely. Absolutely. If you're on Sunrise Highway, Long Ark Expressway, the Northern State. Yes, Merrick, Merrick Road. 25A, 25A, very a very great motorcycle road, by the way, but you gotta be very careful. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_12

Don't forget the southern state.

SPEAKER_11

The southern uh no one wants to talk about the southern state. The 135, right? Cross Island, the Meadowbrook, the Wanto. Anyway, wherever you are, you hear that role of a motorcycle, you know they're close. And now the season is back. So look out, be careful, look, look both ways, all right? Look twice. Twice. All right, and we'll see you next week. I am Johnny Rizzo, and this is Motorcycle Man Radio. We out of here. Good night, everybody. Good night, everyone. Good night.
