SPEAKER_01And on today's episode, we have what we are calling the Island Lake Incident. And it involved a family of five being chased in their boat across a lake for 30 minutes. And this was at night.
SPEAKER_03Creepy. Very, very scary. Yeah.

So, Christine, on last week's episode, we talked about a very mysterious letter. And you know, we weren't giving out much details and kind of being evasive. So now we can divulge a lot more uh information. And so what happened is uh several episodes ago we had on the editor of official UFO magazine from the 70s and 80s, and that was uh Bernie O'Connor, and we had exchanged several emails and had been talking for a few weeks, and he sent me a couple of things, one of which was a scan of this letter that he received in 1976 at the offices of official UFO magazine, and the letter which had no return address uh was a cipher. And I guess uh a lot of you like me, we were somewhat interested in the zodiac uh serial killings that took place in the late 60s and early 70s. And the zodiac killer he sent a lot of ciphers to newspapers, mainly the San Francisco Chronicle. And as soon as I looked at this cipher, I immediately thought of those uh other ciphers because while not exactly the same, they were very, very similar. And I have to tell you, it's kind of creepy. No matter what the um no matter what the cipher says, uh, you know, it's still kind of creepy. It just gives you that that kind of weird feeling. But uh, and it had no return address, so that's a little bit spooky as well. So this letter had, of course, a postmark, and it was mailed from Canada, and it was mailed from the little town of Grand Cache, Alberta, in 1976 to the offices of UFO magazine, which at the time were in uh New York City. And uh we're gonna have Bernie on the episode next week to talk a little bit more about the letters. And so I looked at these symbols, and like I mentioned, they they looked a lot like a cipher, and I did know a little bit about the zodiac killings. So I reached out to the team that I thought would be able to help us the code this, and remarkably they were interested in doing that, and so I reached out to um uh David Orinchuk. Now, if you don't know who David Ornchuk is, he was part of the three-man team that included uh Sam Blake, who is an Australian uh mass mathematician, and uh Jarl Van Eyck, who is from Belgium, and he's also a computer programmer, and they spent a few years on uh trying to decode this message with specially uh programmed computer apps. So in 2020, they actually broke the cipher on the infamous uh zodiac letter called the Zodiac 340, and all of the Zodiac letters were designated by the number of characters in the in the correspondence, so that's what 340 represents. So that zodiac letter had been not been able to have been cracked for 51 years.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_01And I have to tell you, for people who are not familiar with this, uh every major code breaker in the world and military and intelligence group had all tried to crack this. So British intelligence and you know, Australian, Canadian intelligence, the CIA, FBI, many, many organizations had tried to uh break this code, and it was these three guys who finally broke the code. So it is a stunning accomplishment, not to be uh underrated or overlooked for what they did. So we were very lucky to get uh David Ornschek to become interested in this uh what we are calling the Bernie Official UFO Cipher, named after Bernie O'Connor and the magazine, official UFO magazine. And he is working on decoding that now, and he's saying it won't take much longer to break the code. And he is going to be on next week's show, where he will talk all about what the cipher says, a little bit about uh his experience with the Zodiac cipher, the Zodiac 340, and some other interesting questions that are kind of off the beaten path. So definitely stay tuned for that. This is definitely a little bit something different. I wasn't really expecting this. This really came out of the blue, and uh I think we're covering a lot of new ground. I uh our audience will have to correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't really think of any other UFO-related ciphers. And um, yeah, to my knowledge, I think this is the first one that I know of. So we'll have to see what it says. I mean, it'll be anticlimatic if it was just somebody pulling a prank and it's what they had for lunch or something like that, or something like that. But hopefully it'll be something uh interesting. So stay tuned next week for that. Uh, it should prove to be something different that you don't normally hear, definitely on a UFO podcast. So we've got two um UFO conferences coming up, and one of them is called the Awakening Minicon, which takes place on May 17th in Oldham or Oldham, uh, Manchester, United Kingdom. And some of the speakers are Paul Sinclair, Barry Fitzgerald, uh Ian Linford, Steve Mira, and several others. And it's being held at Smoky's Park, which is just minutes from the M60 and seven miles from Manchester City Center. So that actually looks uh fairly interesting. And then also uh on November 1st, which is a Saturday, there's gonna be in Halifax, Nova Scotia, there's gonna be the Halifax Paranormal Symposium. And that is being held at the Tower Hotel and Conference Center. There are lots of events uh being planned, including a hands-on workshop. And speakers include Dr. Jana Greenberg, Tony Rathman, Natalie Jones, and the master of ceremonies is Elliot Van Dusen, who we actually interviewed on this uh podcast several episodes ago. He is excellent, so that would be very, very good. So, Christine, I believe you have some interesting UFO-related news for us.
SPEAKER_04Yes, uh, I think most of us in the world have now heard about Pope Francis passing away. But a lot of people might not know that Pope Francis was pretty pretty chill when it came to the idea of extraterrestrial life. And even as far back as 2008, even the Vatican uh chief astronomer, uh Jose Gabriel Funas actually publicly stated there could be life on other planets and said, Why can't we speak of a brother extraterrestrial? It would still be part of creation. Aliens might be closer to God than us, Funas suggested. Humans could be the lost sheep of the universe. In other words, alien visitors might well have a more advanced religion than ours. Rather than baptizing them, we might want to convert to their faith. And Pope Francis is quoted in a 2014 article saying, and this is the headline, I am not making this up. Pope Francis said he would definitely baptize aliens if they asked him to, if one showed up and asked for it. He was also quoted repeatedly about his belief in extraterrestrial intelligence.
SPEAKER_01And that is very odd for a Pope.
SPEAKER_04Well, you know, I was just about to say, you know, the people on this podcast are of a certain age, and we were always, people were always told, well, we you can tell people aliens are real. Uh it'll destroy religion, it'll destroy politics.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_04And the Pope's like, nah, I want to meet them. You know, bring them on. Uh and then I even found a 20 uh 23 interview. Uh a French journalist meant he told the Pope, who does have a science background, by the way, brought up the discovery of the new planet Kepler 452B, which resembles Earth in in dimensions and characteristics. And again, she asked him about are there thinking beings elsewhere in the universe? And he replied, honestly, I wouldn't know how to answer. But he explained scientific knowledge has until now excluded the possibility of other thinking beings in the universe. Until America was discovered, we thought it didn't exist. And instead, it existed. But in every case, I think we should stick to what the scientists tell us. Still aware that the creator is infinitely greater than our knowledge. Uh so he was he was pretty hip to the idea of extraterrestrial life. And again, I can't think of a pope or a world leader who was that open to the suggestion.
SPEAKER_01No, and I think uh before this Pope I think the the Pope they really downplayed uh extraterrestrials. And I I've heard many scholars, uh religious scholars, talk about you can't have aliens and God at the same time. One nullifies the other, and I thought Yeah, oh that's interesting.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and and Pope Francis uh thought it was all, you know, if you have God and man, you can have aliens, you know, which is a very again a unique perspective.
SPEAKER_01So I have the something that recently came out. It is the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and the Galileo project. They have proposed an all-sky infrared camera.

SPEAKER_01Yeah, to uh look for UFOs. And they have something which they call the AI camera. Now, I have no idea what that is because now everyone just attaches AI to anything, and that just makes it better or more interesting or up to date or current, all those things. And they call it an all-sky observatory at Harvard University, and currently they're constructing two more observatories, one in Pennsylvania and one in Nevada. And the Galileo project, of course, that's headed by uh Abby Loeb, who is um the current darling of anything extraterrestrial. So that is something, and we've seen this talked about with other groups and that kind of thing, but it's actually a very good idea. Uh, you know, to I've always thought kind of in northern uh Canada, if they had a grid of this type of camera, which could cover you know several hundred square miles, and where there's no light pollution and anything like that, and it would capture if there's anything to be captured, boy, that would be an excellent uh a place to have these cameras. So, Christine, it's that part of the show where we uh give a shout out to a small town or village that has listeners to our fine podcast. And today we are picking Florence, Oregon. And it has a population of 9,396 people, and it is on the west coast of Oregon, it's right on the ocean, and it's about in the middle of the uh state, and Florence is at the mouth of the Sioux Slaw River, and when I of course I always watch videos of these places, and it I think the word charming is the exact perfect word word for Florence, is a very charming little town. And the the Sioux Slaw River Bridge uh is just an amazing piece of architecture. It was built in 1936 as part of the U.S. government's plan to get people to work. I forget what the official title of that group was, but um it the bridge is very Art Deco, extremely art. If you're into Art Deco, you want to take a look at this bridge. It's it's truly amazing.
SPEAKER_04Well, you know what else is really cool about Florence? They have sea lions.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yeah, a lot of sea lions, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Which is pretty cool. But if if you wonder where you've heard the name Florence before, something really big happened there that I'm sure you'll all remember, right, Mike?
SPEAKER_01I know I know it's okay. Listeners, you have to forgive us now for laughing because it is slightly tragic what we're gonna say, but oh dear God, it is funny. I couldn't stop laughing. So Florence is the site of what would have been a viral video had there been the internet back then. And this took place on November 12th, 1970. A sperm whale had passed away at sea, and the carcass had landed up on the beach. And so in 1970, they couldn't think of a way to get this carcass off the beach. They thought of several different methods, and then the Department of Transportation, uh, a gentleman in that group, he decided the best way to do this was to plant uh 20 cases or half a ton of dynamite into the dead carcass of the whale and then blow it up. And then that their theory was it would be blown up so with such tremendous force, there would just be little bits left, and the seagulls and crabs would eat whatever remains were left. So, luckily for us, they did film this, and you can see this film on YouTube, and I highly recommend that you do watch this. And so the reporter is there and they count down from 10, and they're fairly far away. They have backed everyone off, and they're counting down to 10, and it gets to you know one, and then the guy pushes the plunger in, and then you see this whale blow up, it looks like a small uh nuclear explosion. And at first, because it's a huge explosion, at first you hear the crowd go, ooh, ah, but that is that is quickly, very quickly, followed by the sound of four to five pound pieces of whale blubber going blah blah blah blah blah blah, and then everyone's going, no, run, and they're running, running from the camera, and everyone is being hit with this flying blubber, and so much of it in so many big chunks went in so many places. Uh uh like a six by five foot piece actually flew a quarter of a mile and landed on a guy's brand new car and totally crushed it. Wow, like I mean crushed it good. And when you watch this, it reminded me of the scene in WCARP in Cincinnati where they dropped the turkeys from the helicopter, and what is it, Les Nessman says, I thought turkeys could fly.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's like, and so I can highly recommend you watch this video. I know it's a bit of a something you shouldn't laugh at, but oh dear God, it is genuinely funny.
SPEAKER_04But in 2020, residents voted to name a new park, Exploding Whale Memorial Park. Oh they're all about the exploding whale.
SPEAKER_01And it exploded real good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like you used to say on FCTV, it blowed up real good.
unknownYes.
SPEAKER_01And apparently there was a in 1970, there was a veteran of World War II was at the beach that day, and he was telling the transport guys, he said, this is too much dynamite.
SPEAKER_04And nobody listened.
SPEAKER_01I used to blow up bridges in World War II, and I'm telling you, this is too much. You're using way too much. And wow, you you I'm telling uh you you have to look at it really. It's probably something you only see once in your life. But um uh but that shouldn't detract from how what a you know charming little town Florence is. And by the way, you know, the the dead whale isn't there anymore, so the beaches are actually pretty spectacular looking. There's lots of uh sand dunes, parts of the area look like a craggy kind of uh coast. I actually thought it reminded me of the David Lean film called Ryan's Daughter.

SPEAKER_01Which we shot in Ireland. It has that kind of romantic, sweeping, kind of sand duney kind of beach with the craggy cliffs. So it is uh it's a fairly nice place, and of course, we have to give our shout out to a place, and this is another place where the bakery and the coffee place, it's one. I'm combining them on this episode, and it's a place called the River Roasters, and they are really known for their coffee and their drinks, they make baked goods, but I don't think that's their claim to fame. They do have a couple of nice pictures in there of a pumpkin roll and a peanut butter chocolate bar, but it looks exactly like what we call in Canada an enaimo bar, or very similar, or what my grandma. Mother used to call butter dominoes, and for the longest time I'd walk into a bakery and I would say, Do you have butter dominoes? And people looked at me like I was talking in a foreign language. No one had ever heard of it before. But they do have a couple of interesting drinks, and that is their real forte. And uh there's a lot of them on there, but I'm gonna pick out two. So they have something called a monkey mocha. And that is mocha with banana and coconut.
SPEAKER_04Oh man, would that be good?
SPEAKER_01And coffee.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yummy.
SPEAKER_01And then they have another thing, it's called the Blackjack, and that is four shots of espresso, Kahlua, and steamed half and half.
SPEAKER_04Oh my goodness. Don't plan on sleeping after that.
SPEAKER_01You'll be you'll be up for the next 24 hours. That's the downside.
SPEAKER_04You'll write a novel.
SPEAKER_01That's the downside of that drink. But uh along with the rest of Florence being looking charming, the River Roasters uh venue looks very charming. It's just a a great little town.
SPEAKER_04Uh and if you're uh uh here's of course, because I have to slip in my book knowledge, uh if you're a Ken Casey reader, if you ever read his novel Sometimes a Great Notion, which was also made into a movie, there's the Edwin E. Benedict House, which is a deteriorating house on the Sushlaw River, uh is apparently the inspiration for the Stamper house in the novel Sometimes a Great Notion.
SPEAKER_01Wow. It's I it's funny, we do see literary uh references from time to time in a lot of these little towns that we that we read about. It is kind of interesting to to see them that they have they're have a bit of fame even beyond being charming or quaint or things like that. So, Christine, that is our shout out today, and we promise uh we will never laugh at exploding whale carcasses ever again. But you should see that video.
SPEAKER_03Yes.

SPEAKER_02What is it to look for the truth when others find it easier to look away? When all is said and done, who will we thank for writing the history of unidentified flying objects? It hasn't been governments or institutions, it has mainly been individuals that have done the heavy lifting of ufology. Names like Dr. James McDonald, Dr. J. Allen Heinek, Anne Druffle, John E. Mack, Stanton Friedman, and Dr. Richard F. Haynes, and thousands and thousands of others whose names have been lost to time. For many, there was no fame, no adulation, and little or no monetary reward, and yet they kept on giving their time and large parts of their lives to help find the answer. Are we alone in the universe? So here's to all of those for their hard work over many decades collecting pieces of the puzzle of one of the greatest mysteries of all time. Your investigations will not have been in vain. Sometimes the reward is in and of itself.
SPEAKER_01So, Christine, we have another uh report taken from the files of the RCMP, and this is they're like the gift that keeps on giving. They they're really endless, and as I've mentioned a few times, there's at least 8,000 of these files. Now, all of them aren't uh, you know, really, really good. There's a lot of them that are just I saw a light in the sky and it looked weird and it was you know a mile away or something. So there's nothing much to it, but there are here and there these wonderful treasure troves of encounters that uh almost any one of them could have been at least a magazine article, some could have been books, that kind of thing. So this um encounter it took place uh in Island Lake, Manitoba. And there's a few little communities that are all together. There's Island Lake and uh Garden Hills. And to give you an idea of where this is, so it's in the uh province of Manitoba, and uh Winnipeg is the largest city in uh Manitoba. So Island Lake is roughly 472 kilometers or 293 miles northeast of Winnipeg, and it's kind of Island Lake is not that far from the Ontario border, it's kind of up there. But also to give you an idea of how far north that is, so I live in Ontario and I'm just east of Toronto and the Kenora, which I consider to be pretty far north of Toronto. Kenora is roughly about 1,864 kilometers, and that's 1,158 miles uh north of Toronto. So I in my mind, Kenora is that's a fair jaunt. So even Kenora is south of uh Island Lake. To get to Island Lake or Garden Hills from even Kenora, that is another 459 kilometers. So we're talking about a place that's fairly far north of where this event happened, so lots of lakes in uh northern Manitoba, lots of very small communities. So this case was uh more recent than many of the other ones that we've covered. It happened on uh the sighting happened on October 3rd, 1981. So definitely at least roughly 10 years uh later than most of the other RCMP reports that we have been uh covering. And like I mentioned, it's the area of Island Lake, uh Garden Hills. You'll also hear when we read this out that the RCMP detachment was at Norway House, and that is another community in northern Manitoba. Now, Norway House, that is a few hundred kilometers away from Garden Hills, so the RCMP would have had to have really traveled even to get to the people to interview them. So the the first page I'm gonna read, it is a telex that was uh sent to the National Research Uh Council in Ottawa, and it was sent from Norway House RCMP detachment. And the family is uh Albert Punch, Elizabeth Punch, and their three children who are a young age, so they were not interviewed or and their names are not also uh not part of the report. So the the telex reads at 0030 hours on eighty one ten oh four, Thompson RCMP telecoms operator took a report from the above-mentioned person at approximately twenty-three forty-five hours on eighty-one ten oh three while heading north of Island Lake, Manitoba by boat to a bay located seven miles due north. Punch was just pulling into a bay along with his three sons, ages four, seven, and nine, and his wife, and they observed an object flying in the air, which is about five hundred yards away, and followed the boat from behind when the object approached the boat. The motor stopped, and when it retreated the motor would start again. Punch reported he saw a stream of light across the bay flashing off and on with a large blue light in the middle, which was not flashing. When asked if the object could have been a plane, he stated no, it was too large. At zero zero thirty five hours eighty one ten oh four, Constable DR Gormley of the Norway House Detachment received the message from RCMP Telecom section at Thompson City. A phone call was made immediately to mister A. Punch. Punch stated that he was heading north to a bay located seven miles north of Island Lake with his family. They had just entered the bay, and this object approached them as described earlier in this report. The object was flying anywheres between a couple of feet off the water up to treetop level. Upon seeing the object, Punch turned his boat around and started heading for home. The object is described as being cone shaped with the point at the top and rounded at the bottom like a light bulb. When the lights were flashing, he could see the filament inside the object following him for about half an hour or of a distance of about four miles. The lights were bright white at the top and blue lights in the center. Weather conditions at the time were cloudy, but he could see the stars and some mist on the lake. Punch sounded excited and a little scared and did not seem intoxicated. Constable Cochran, a member of Norway House Detachment, is scheduled for regular patrol into Island Lake from eighty one ten twenty two and twenty six and will interview the witnesses at that time. A report will then be completed and forwarded to Division Headquarters and the National Research Council. DR Gormley, and that's from Norway House RCMP detachment. So the next sheet is also the typewritten, it's not a telex printed, it's a typewritten uh Royal Canadian Mounted Police Report. And it was done at Thompson uh division at Norway House Detachment. And it just has included the uh statements of Albert Punch and his wife Elizabeth Punch. And it says 81103, paragraph one. On this date, Constable D. Gormley received a call from Thompson Telecoms, who advised that one Albert Punch of Garden Hill Island Lake had reported the sighting of an unidentified flying object. Constable Gormley contacted Punch immediately, at which time Punch briefly related the details of the sighting. Punch was advised by Constable Gormley that the rider, Constable C. R. Cochrane, was scheduled for an inland patrol eighty one ten twenty two through twenty six and would investigate the incident at that time. Telex eighty one thirteen was forwarded on the incident as per Operation Manual I3E twenty two A. And in the second paragraph, which is dated eighty one ten twenty four, it says on this date a statement was obtained from Albert Punch, which is attached as appendix A. In his statement, Punch advises that he observed the object at approximately twenty forty five hours. The weather was clear and calm at the time and it was dark. Punch had taken his wife and young children out cutting wood and were just coming home traveling south approximately seven miles north of Garden Hill. The object was coming from the north at a high rate of speed. Punch stopped his outboard motor to determine if the object had any sound, which it did not. Punch restarted the motor at which time the object began coming towards them. Punch advised that the object came within a few hundred yards from the boat and the outboard motor stopped completely. The object lowered to approximately four to five feet from the surface of the water, and it was at this time that electric arcs jumped from between the water and the object. The object then moved up again and rapidly moved back and forth in the sky. Punch describes the object as being at least 200 feet in diameter. The object had bright lights around it somewhat similar to that of an arc welder flash. There was also a blue flashing light on top and of the cone-shaped object. The bottom of the object was convex rather than flat. There was also no detectable noise from the object. And then paragraph three, it says 811025. On this date, a statement was obtained from Elizabeth Punch, which is attached as Appendix B. Elizabeth Punch relates a very similar sequence of events as does Albert Punch. And then paragraph four, which takes place on eighty-one eleven ten. It is in the opinion of the writer that both Albert and Elizabeth Punch are sincere in reporting what they observed. They both appeared to be in awe over the occurrence. It is not felt that the story was concocted by the punches. And then paragraph five, no statements were taken from the children due to their very young age, no report to follow. And this was signed off by CR Cochrane, who is the C stands for Craig, and that's at Norway House Detachment, and also signed off by a staff sergeant CAB.
SPEAKER_04I will now read Appendix A, which is the statement of Albert Punch, which has been handwritten by Craig uh Constable Craig Cochran. So hopefully his read his his handwriting is pretty legible. Hopefully I I can read everything correctly. Statement of Albert Punch. I am Craig Cochran of the RCMP, and I am investigating an incident that occurred on 81-10-03, where you saw an unidentifiable object in the sky. Question. What can you tell me about this? Answer. It was about 8 45 p.m. It was dark but clear. There was no wind. I was out on the boat with my family. We were coming home from cutting wood. My wife seen this object first. It was coming from the north. It was traveling quite fast. I stopped the motor to see if it had any sound. It didn't. It was quite a ways from us at that time. I started the motor and took off again. That's when we saw it start coming towards us. It only came within a couple hundred yards of us. That is when the motor quit on us. Just dead stop.
SPEAKER_01So this is page two of Albert's uh statement. It said it gradually came down to about four or five feet above the water. That's when you could see arcs sparking along the bottom of it like electricity. Then it went up again and just moved from shore to shore. It was just like in the blink of an eye, and it would be in a different spot. This was right in Cochrane Bay. It was about at least 200 feet in diameter. It had lights all around it, almost like a welder flash. It hurt your eyes. There was a light at the top that was a bluish color, really bright. It was flashing all the time. It was cone shaped. It came up to a point. There was no noise at all. It was kind of rounded out on the bottom rather than uh right flat. I paddled to shore and got my wife and kids to the bush and it left. I could see the shining of its lights on the other side of the island. I lined my motor up and started and we went on home. We never seen it again. And that is signed by Albert Punch and Craig Cochrane. So I'm gonna read the first page of Elizabeth Punch's statement. And she says in regards to the sighting of an unidentifiable object you've seen in the sky on eighty one ten oh three. Question What can you tell me about that? Answer It was around eight thirty PM. I was in the boat in Cochrane Bay, my husband and these young boys. We were coming back towards Garden Hill. We had been out to cut some wood. It was a clear, calm night and it was two and it was dark already. I looked back to the north to talk to Albert, who was driving. That is when I seen some blue light. It was about two hundred yards from us then. It looked like it was going back and forth. That's when I told Albert to start the motor and go. He had stopped the motor to see if we could hear uh noise. We couldn't. He started the motor and went quite a distance. It wasn't getting any closer to us.
SPEAKER_04Then it was still moving back and forth. That thing came down close to the water, and that is when our motor suddenly stopped. Albert thought maybe he hit a rock and he passed to the shore. When we got to there, he checked the propellers and found that it had to be in a rock. I told him to start the motor to see if it would go, and it did. We were still seeing that light all the time, but it had gone back up higher. We went around one side of this big island, and we could see the glow on the water side, on the other side of the island. We never seen it again after that. It was cone-shaped, about maybe 15 feet across the bottom. It had a flashing blue light on the top that was going all of the time. When it came close to the water, it got lights around the bottom. I could see them sort of flashing up. It was just moving back and forth. There was no noise at all coming from this thing. It was maybe ten feet high. And she concludes, that's all I can tell you about it. And then signed Elizabeth Violet Punch. Signed also by the constable Craig Cochrane.
SPEAKER_01So, Christine, I believe this is the first case we have covered from the RCMP files where it was uh the people were in a boat.
SPEAKER_04I I think so.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't remember any other uh case like this.
SPEAKER_04And and and there's always I'm sure we've both seen and read reports of UFOs being sighted over water, but never by people in the water in a boat yet.
SPEAKER_01So for me, uh I have been in a small boat on a lake at night, and without the UFO, it is extremely creepy. It's it's um because you can't really see the water, and you can't really see much of anything except uh cottages on the shore, and some of them have lights, some don't. So it's it's just really creepy because you don't like traveling in a direction where you can't see where you're going, because you know, whether there's a log in the water or rock or who knows what, so automatically it's kind of not pleasant and creepy. And so throw in a very large and very bright UFO just four to five feet above the water, like uh following you. Wow, that would be give you pause to reflect, that's for sure. And also he be and he has his young kids with him.
SPEAKER_04I that would be terrifying. Yes, I can imagine because they're very young, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01And at one point he's paddling the shore, like the object uh conked out the motor. They he said the motor would stall and turn off. So, you know, you're trying to get away from this object, and then the motor stops. This is like an Alfred Hitchcock film.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know, so uh they don't mention how if it was terrifying. So maybe they were just used to this lifestyle, like they did this all the time. And also, it's kind of odd you would go chopping wood. I'm sure they didn't leave in the dark, but to go out and get wood and then come home kind of with this wood and it's dark, and and it's fairly far away. I looked on a map of where uh Garden Hills was and where Cochrane Bay was. It's a bit of a jaunt. I mean, I think he said it was four miles. It probably looked a little bit more than that on the water. So in a smaller boat, that would take take a little bit of time, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and and so he he says he's using a paddle, he's using a motor, he's using the paddle when the motor cuts out. He I would say, I don't know if it's something that they missed in the statement. These two people seem remarkably calm about that. And very straightforward.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I would be terrified. Like it it's not pleasant being in a small boat on a lake at night. It's no it's automatically scary for me. That's yeah, uh that's already scary. And also keep in mind that this is fairly far north in Manitoba, so there's not lots of people around. It's not like, well, there's all the neighbors and they're all out to help us. There's probably very few people around. And then also this was in October. So it would be cold. Yes, you've also got the factor, it's it's cold outside, so just a lot of unpleasant things happening. Dark, cold, you can't see where you're going. Um boy, and you're getting wood probably to keep warm with, I would imagine.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, before the snow comes, you want to get you as much dry wood as possible. Um, on the prairies, I mean, we can have, you know, we we usually say it's pretty common. Yep, we were covering it in snow by Halloween most of the time. So I can imagine they were just trying to get as much dry wood as possible.
SPEAKER_01And I think the population of uh Garden Hills, I think even today it's like 3200, something like that. So it probably probably would have been less uh back then. So this was a fairly remote place. So yeah, just everything you did would not want to be. This is not where you want to have your UFO encounter. No, there's no help, you're on the water, you're in a boat, um, you can't get away because your engine conked out. So uh just all those things adding up to not pleasant time, and the craft being four or five feet above the water. Wow, that is and then Albert was saying he's seen arcs of electricity going between the craft and the top of the water.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And we have heard of this happening in other uh UFO reports.
SPEAKER_04Well, for those of you who live in, you know, densely populated areas, Manitoba and Saskatchewan are the north the northern communities, especially in Manitoba, there are a lot of lakes. I mean a lot of lakes. And there's it's very sparsely populated. And not only are the population centers very big, they're really spread out, as you can see from how far the RCMP detachment was from some of these places. And these are these places are probably more remote than a lot of you can imagine.
SPEAKER_01In the uh Carl uh Lentowitz interview, the RCMP guy, that when he talked about taking uh dog sled for several days uh, you know, out in the the wild with just two other people, this is kind of more where this area is. Um you know, they're not they're kind of I would call them remote towns and villages. Like there's not especially in the 80s, there wouldn't have been, you know, this there's no Walmarts or anything like that. This is a whole different uh kind of existence. And probably, like we're saying, boy, it would be very terrifying, but you know, people who live that way, they're just more used to nature, being out in the dark, doing those kind of things. So they're cut from a little bit different cloth than people who are used to the city like uh like I am all the time. So that probably would account for a little bit of them not being terrified, but they did report it. This is something they wanted to report, so it was very unusual for them. And so you have to keep in mind that because these people are a lot closer to nature, there's a lot less, way less light pollution, and they're seeing the sky all the time. They're pretty familiar with a lot of that stuff. So this was definitely something way unusual and way worth calling the RCMP about, especially when you know how far away the RCMP are.
SPEAKER_04And and they have to come a a a fair distance to take your statement.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think it was, didn't we say like 350 kilometers, something like that?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, it's um they're not around the corner. It's uh it's a major event to to get to get there. So Christine, I just it's this is our first on the water report, and I have to say it's a very good report. There's just a lot of information. It was very close. Uh I often get asked um by people who know nothing about UFOs. They say, oh, you know, isn't it just misidentification of airplanes in the sky and things that are far away?
SPEAKER_03I don't think this one could be pick any of those boxes. No siring.
SPEAKER_01I get asked that a lot, and I just refer them to cases like this where you know, they're in a boat, they're seeing the thing like a hundred yards away, five feet above the water. Like there's this there's arcs of electricity, like lightning, going between the object and the water. I mean, this is not stuff that you're seeing every day. It's not a misidentification of a helicopter or no, they saw what they saw. Yeah, it's it's for real. So it's definitely something. And then we can debate about whether it was alien or top secret projects or some new phenomenon that has yet to be discovered. But um, absolutely something, and this is just one more report that is adding to all of these voices from these RCMP reports, these 8,000 reports, that have all mainly gone unnoticed, except for a few researchers here and there who have probably privately read them. But uh publicly, very few of these cases have ever seen the light of day. So we are more than happy that we can bring these reports to uh a larger audience and and add their voices, even though they're you know 40 years ago or so, to the to what's happening, like what's going on. And and I always think, as I always say, the history is always important to if we want to understand uh what's happening in the current state of ufology.
SPEAKER_02Here are the Canadian civil aviation anomalies for the week of April 14th through April 18th, 2025. On April 14th at 0007 Zulu Time, Flight CFCQX reported a drone at 200 feet above their altitude on the approach to runway 14R. Approximately four nautical miles out between 4,500 and 5,000 feet above sea level. RCMP was contacted at 0011 Zulu time. Also on April 14th, a radar target was observed at 1,800 feet on a northwest and southeast trajectory, passing three nautical miles northeast of CYYY and crossing the final approach path of runway 24. No contact was established with the flight surface station. No other traffic was reported in the mandatory frequency. On April 16th, a WestJet Airlines B-789 was operating Flight WS-19, flying from Heathrow Airport UK to Calgary International Airport. Approximately 30 minutes into the flight, the air traffic passed the wake turbulence from a Boeing 747, and a cabin crew member was injured. Duties were reassigned among remaining crew members, and a dead-heading cabin crew member was activated to sit in jump seat for landing. Aircraft landed without further incident. There was no impact on operations, and all flights proceeded to their destinations without further incident.
