SPEAKER_01Welcome everybody to the podcast. This is season four, episode 23, coming to you from Studio 7H, overlooking the beautiful Trent River here in Ontario.
SPEAKER_03And I'm Christine Scott coming to you from the beautiful warehouse district in Regina, Saskatchewan, Studio 9B.
SPEAKER_01And on today's show, an RCMP officer witnesses a UFO connected to the ground by a bending stream of light. And his car stalls as he gets closer. Now, today I'm having orange chocolate flavored coffee, and it is brewed in a percolator. Yum. Which is exactly how I like my coffee. That's a great way to have it. And Christine, uh always fearful of your answer. What are what are you having?
SPEAKER_03Well, I'm very lazy today. I mix some French vanilla instant coffee with lots of cream and sugar.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Thank you. My sweet tooth.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Thank God for that.
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_01And you know, I don't always like talking about the weather because uh you you just hate to lean on that as something to talk about.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But this is the winter that just won't give up. Um normally in southern Ontario, uh, we've been pretty good over the last decade, where around roughly around the Toronto area and vicinity, you only get, I don't know, two bad storms, seven or eight minor storms, and that's about it. But this year, it's like with a vengeance, we are getting snow after snow. And now this today we're supposed to get another huge storm. I'm just I I'm kind of at the limit.
SPEAKER_03Well, you're welcome because we sent it to you. The prairies, the prairies got hit. Still waiting for snowfall totals, but yeah, we we it was pretty much completely melted here. Almost everything had melted, which is very unusual for Saskatchewan. And the one thing is our producers and northern Saskatchewan, they need the snow for fire season, they needed it for growing. So if there would have been any way to shift it away from the cities and give it to the people who need it, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Because I like I mentioned to Christine off air, uh, right now I have oh, I don't know, it's maybe three, three and a half feet of snow in my my backyard. There's there's no place to put it anymore. Like when you want to clear your driveway and all of those things. I had to buy a snow rake, which I thought, how funny that someone would ever have to use that. Ha ha ha. But I have I've actually had to buy one, and of course, they're sold out everywhere. And what it is, it's an extremely long extension pole with kind of a uh bent shovel on the end. And this is so you can rake snow off your roof. And I can't tell you how you haven't really lived until you've raked your snow snow off your roof. It's it's something everyone should enjoy at least once.
SPEAKER_03And that is a pleasure, probably a lot of our listeners in other countries will never have.
SPEAKER_01They probably don't have a clue what I'm talking about. They're going, you're you're shoveling snow off your roof?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the what now?
SPEAKER_01Yes, and uh the reason for it is that if you get enough snow up there, which we have a lot of snow, you know, then you start to worry about is my roof gonna cave in? Because, you know, now it's an extra, I don't know, six or seven thousand more pounds or more than that. Who knows? But yeah, it's it's a crazy time.
SPEAKER_03It is. It's that I say it every time, it's the flipped El Nina, El Nino, where you get our weather and we get yours.
SPEAKER_01It's just crazy times that we're living in, but it yeah, there is warmth coming, I hope. Yeah, I hope there is.
SPEAKER_03Well, you know, we'll see you in March. The the groundhogs were all split on their decisions. The the groundhogs are split down the middle, a four for early spring, four for more winter, but March, you know, will it be in like a lion and out like a lamb? We don't know.
SPEAKER_01That's right. I hope it's uh I hope it's uh summer before much longer, because that's about all I can take.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, I think you've had it officially.
SPEAKER_01So now we're gonna read uh some UFO uh shows and conferences. Uh the first one is Mufon of Ohio is presenting uh Thomas Wortman, and he is gonna be uh at the New London Public Library on February 21st, and that's in New London, Ohio, and it's gonna be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. And I don't think it has a link. I don't think they're gonna be. This will not be on the internet. I think you'll have to be actually there in person, and then also you're gonna mark this down on your calendar. This is the 60th anniversary of the Westall UFO incident. That's that uh event that happened in Australia at the grade school with all these students and the uh UFO hovering pretty close to the ground. I think it might even have landed. And so this 60th anniversary event is gonna be held on April 12th, and it's gonna be held at the uh West Westall Library. And Shane Ryan, who is kind of the godfather of all things Westel, he is gonna be a speaker there, and there's gonna be a lot of events going on there that day. They're gonna have a lot more information on the site, uh, closer to the date. But that looks pretty interesting, and it's it's hard to believe that was 60 years ago. Wow. Um, next uh is another new one. We have um something called the UFO Con 2026, and it's also has a subtitle, it's called Contact on the Bay, and this is being held at Burlingame, California, which is uh south of San Francisco, and that's gonna be on March 2020, 21st, and 22nd, and they're gonna have 18 speakers. Wow, yeah, a lot of people speaking. Um, and that includes Paul Heineck, uh Phil Kava, Robert Sallas, Michael Scratt, and uh Ryan Wood, and of course, many, many others. And they make one they make a big point of saying this. They say none of their speakers are being paid. So that's unusual. Yeah. Um, I think it's a very nice area. I don't know if that maybe they're paying for their hotels. But um, I will put links to all of these shows in the uh show notes. So now we're gonna do a little bit of uh UFO news and have a little bit of discussion on some of the current events. Um, probably a lot of you have heard of this by now. So uh President Obama was on the uh Brian Taylor Cohen uh YouTube channel, and he was asking him all kinds of questions, but one of the questions he asked was about aliens. And President Obama on that show said aliens are real and went into some other things. Now, I watched that part of the show, and to me, I thought he answered kind of in that tonight show ad libby kind of funny way. Because you know, over the years we've seen lots of presidents on Jimmy Kimmel and some of the other uh late night US shows. And when they asked that question, they always say kind of jokingly, and that so that's how I took it. I didn't take it as he was really saying um aliens are real, they're here now. I didn't take it that way. And uh of course, on Sunday, uh last Sunday, uh President Obama he walked that back.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, because it's it it's been dominating the news cycle.
SPEAKER_01So he had to. Yes. Uh I don't think he realized the a lot of people are kind of uh on this fever pitch because there are so many places on the internet and on uh TV that they keep drumming this uh drum beat of disclosure, and everyone thinks it's tomorrow and it's just around the corner. So, yeah, I don't think he realized what he would unleash when he said UFO or uh aliens are real, because I think there's a lot of people that went, oh, just like we thought, like a hundred percent. So it is funny to see him get in a little bit of trouble for giving what I thought was just kind of an a funny off the cuff kind of answer. But now he finds himself deep in this turmoil.
SPEAKER_03Well, I remember when I heard this, I went, Well, I remember him saying on something on somebody else's talk show a long time ago. So I looked it up and he was on James Corden's show, and he said that on coming into office, he asked whether there was a lab, were we keeping the alien specimens in spaceship? And he said they did a little research, and the answer was no, because I remember him saying no on this show. Uh but I do think Barack Obama has a genuine interest in the subject. I would really personally like to thank him for one of the best science fiction book recommendations I've ever read. His favorite uh science fiction book series he recommended was the Three Body Problem series by the Chinese author Sixian Liu, who's called the Chinese Arthur C. Clarke. It's an amazing series.
SPEAKER_01I remember you saying that before.
SPEAKER_03Oh, it's terrific. I know there's a TV series based on it, uh, which I haven't been able to watch. But it it honestly, I read about it on the internet as a personal recommendation from Barack Obama, and I am so glad I picked it up. But interestingly enough, it is about first contact with aliens, and it does deal with them having completely different physics than us.
SPEAKER_01Now, I remember also that um he when he walked this back uh on Sunday, he also put in there like a little asterisk. He said, you know, unless there's something, unless there's some really big deep conspiracy going on, and they're withholding all this information from the president, he said, I never saw anything that would lead me to believe that we have uh aliens. And then he qualified that by saying that, you know, everyone said this, that you know, the the universe is so big, there's gotta be life out there. That's kind of the standard answer that most people give.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So, you know, who knows?
SPEAKER_03And and didn't he drink his tea and make, you know, the sassy drinking tea look like there they're like we joke on the internet, if you have gossip, you spill the tea. And I think there was a cute little bit of body language with his eyes where he drank his tea. And uh so some people thought Obama's spilling the tea about the aliens.
SPEAKER_01I know, I know. It's so and they've all said it because I've seen most mostly all the living presidents on different shows, yeah, where they all jokingly say something about aliens. Yeah, they do, yeah. A lot of the the late night hosts always mention something.
SPEAKER_03And Bill Clinton, I remember Bill Clinton handling the question the same way, didn't he?
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes. So who knows, right? Maybe they all know and they are they get together and they think, wow, we came close that time, we almost let the cat out of the bag. Now, here's something uh that was really a shock to me when I came across it a few days ago, was uh Nick Pope when he announced on X that he had or has stage four esophageal uh cancer, and that has spread and must metastasized to his liver. And I was I was just shocked by that because uh he's such an icon in the in ufology.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, very shocking news. Uh I read his statement after you told me I I looked up his Facebook statement, and he's very he seems very calm and very prepared. Yes. And and is talking about how happy he was with his life and his marriage, uh, how happy he was with his wife. And he's he seems to have it to be facing it well.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's it's almost like one of those cliches where you know the doctor uh tells you you have to get your life in order. It was almost kind of one of those kind of uh conversations he was having with everybody. Uh he was just summing up his adventure and ufology and little bits of his life that he wanted to share with us. And you know, I thought there's no denying that he was an important person uh in ufology. I didn't always agree with the uh angle and his approach of what he did, but you know, you can't deny that he's just one of those people that you know was a steady kind of voice of reason for many, many years.
SPEAKER_03As my bookstore co-owner always said, Gravitas.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes, because uh, you know, when you think of it, you know, years and years ago, there was some you know, Jay Allen Hineck, he was that steady voice that was scientific and everyone would go to him for a comment on stuff. So when he left the scene, there was no one really there, uh and Nick Pope kind of filled that void. He was that that steady, at least it seemed like a steady voice that would uh that you could trust and it would it was calm and cool and collected.
SPEAKER_03And his posts, he's grateful and happy for his life. He's very happy and very grateful for everything that's happened to him. Uh he's I think he's on a high note as he approaches the future, uh, and considers himself uh incredibly fortunate for the way his life has turned out.
SPEAKER_01So I've jotted down some thoughts on Nick Pope, and I'm I'm just gonna read it here for you right now. You just have to have a lot of empathy for a man to write what Nick Pope has written. Here is a man writing about deeply personal feelings as he stands at the edge of his life. I just think what a perspective. You know, someday, sooner or later, we will all stand in his shoes. Uh it certainly gives one pause. So, Christine, everyone has heard about this by now. It was the uh closing of the El Paso International Airport. This was kind of odd because when I first heard this, the press release when it came out, it said uh that El Paso International Airport was gonna be closed for ten days in a ten mile radius of the airport. And when I first heard that, I thought like El Paso Airport isn't Atlanta or Chicago, but still to close an entire airport for 10 days, I thought, boy, that is gonna cause a lot of a lot of problems. And I started to think about it. And then a few hours later, there was another bulletin. Oh, we've opened it again. Yeah, it's all okay. And I thought, what? Like, how can you make a major statement like that? And two hours later it's reversed. I thought, wow, something's gone wrong.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and then and then we started hearing about the drones again.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. The Trump administration official told NBC News that Mexican cartel drones had breached American airspace and the Defense Department disabled them. Although there was no confirmation from the Pentagon that drones were shot down. But two of the sources said it was a miscommunication or a dispute between the FAA and the Defense Department about whether the testing would affect commercial aviation that preceded uh the grounding of aircraft at El Paso. So you always hear about big agencies never communicate with each other.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I mean, even you know, law enforcement agencies are always complaining about not sharing information with each other. But this was a big one. I mean, that affected a lot of people.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because I read about it later. The mayor of El Paso was saying there was uh emergency medical flights, had a detour to a different hospital, and it affected like life and death uh situations. It was a pretty important uh GAFA, as it were. And you know, there was even not long after that, all of these conspiracy theory sites where they're talking about it was a UFO invasion. And they were coming to the airport, so they had to close it for 10 days. And I thought, okay, so that makes no sense.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because they just the the airlines they list are Southwest, Delta, United, and American, you know, not uh Beetlejuice or El Deberon or any of those other places. So I don't think any slossers were cleared to land.
SPEAKER_01I know it it was just it's it's so weird. It's it's just uh it just causes you to think that you know how many more important things like this are gonna be the ball is gonna be dropped. Like, you know, usually these are the kind of things you you see in a local town where like the uh the dog catcher makes a mistake with the street cleaner or something. But when it starts affecting like international airports and the Department of Defense in the US, like this is getting a little worrisome, I would say, for what's what's going on. But thank goodness that they figured it all out. And it shows you how with the internet uh now just you know firmly entrenched in all the social media accounts that all these rumors spread almost instantaneously. Yeah. Which is slightly worrisome.
unknownYes.
SPEAKER_01Because just think if you know, if the power went out in half of the country or half of North America or wherever, and it was out for more than uh several hours, like, oh goodness, it's the invasion is on. Yes. It's the you know, you think to yourself, you everyone always talks about War of the Worlds with Orson Wells, and it's the reason why they they always mention that as the reason why nothing nothing has ever been mentioned about uh spacecraft being found or aliens or anything like that. And before I used to think, oh, that wouldn't cause panic anymore, but now I'm not so sure anymore.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, I think there'd be more panic from misinformation. Uh because at this point, I mean, if a saucer landed, a lot of people would go, cool. But uh yeah, that's that would be one case when you you'd have to stop the spread on social media, I think.
SPEAKER_01Now it's the part of the show where we give a shout out to a town or city where we have listeners. And this week uh we have picked Astoria, Oregon, and it has a population of 10,181 people, and it is located on the south shore of the Columbia River, and that's in the northwest corner of Oregon, which is in the uh the western, uh northwestern part of the United States. And I have to tell you from watching the videos, it is a spectacularly wonderful. Looking city, that is for sure.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, and it's been used as a location for a lot of movies. Short Circuit, The Black Stallion, Kindergarten Cop, which I loved, Freewheelie 1 and 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3, a Benji movie, Come See the Paradise, The Ring, the second ring movie, Into the Wild, which will break your heart. Trust me, it will break your heart if you see that movie. And two films you might not have heard of, The Guardian and Green Room. I have seen Green Room, but one movie I can guarantee you will know about that was filmed there is The Goonies.
SPEAKER_01Yes, The Goonies.
SPEAKER_03And the the poor woman who owns the Goonies house. She wants people to leave her alone because everybody wants to come see the Goonies house.
SPEAKER_01It's funny when I watched the I watched about three videos, and of course, every one of these videos mentioned that the Goonies was filmed here, and they have a special building where you can go in and buy all the Goonies movie memorabilia that you ever could imagine. Uh sweaters and t-shirts and all kind like I didn't even know they could make this much stuff on the Goonies. But um there's a big uh old bridge that crosses the Columbia River River there, and it just looks great. It's hard to you know say it over in audio only, but it just looks spectacular. A really spectacular place to live.
SPEAKER_03And you know who else? Here's uh of course, you know, I'm very happy. I always report on their local media that they do it. They have had a newspaper for 154 years and the Koshver Business Journal. But actually, you know what a big Ed Wood fan I am.
SPEAKER_01Yes, me too.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we're big Ed Wood fans, and uh her real name was Malia Nermi, but Vampira from Ed Wood's uh stable of stars was born in Astoria.
SPEAKER_01Wow, I did not know that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and of course, you will know her uh from her TV show hosting from Plan 9 from Outer Space. Uh okay, well, I might have to clarify. I don't know if she was born there, but she attended Astoria High School in the late 1930s.
SPEAKER_01And so Vampira, she spawned Elvira.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01She had her own TV show.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Elvira was uh like Cassandra Peterson's Elvira is like the fun vampira. Yes. Yeah, vampira was the gorgeous beatnik vampire, you know. Very slinky and mysterious, but Elvira's the fun vampire.
SPEAKER_01The gorgeous beatnik vampire. Boy, that's I that's a new movie. I could see that movie.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's the title of my next my next knockoff uh vampire novel that'll be on Amazon. I'll write it in about two hours.
SPEAKER_01And of course, no great place would be worth its salt without a great bakery. And Astoria has a great bakery. It's called the Naked Lemon Bakery. What a great name. Yeah, it's a great name. And they make a lot of interesting things. Um they make muffins, they make uh macarons, and the muffins, they have one one I'm gonna mention for sure is a lemon-curd vanilla muffin. Oh, yum. Yeah, yeah. And they're with their macaroons that I thought were something else. I thought they were meringue-based, but I was totally wrong.
SPEAKER_03Have you never have you had a macaron before?
SPEAKER_01I probably not, because I'm thinking they were meringue-based, but I saw them being made, and I thought, oh, this is more like a cookie.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they're a filled cookie. Um, they're often, I've seen them in brightly, they're often brightly colored. Uh, a lot of French patisseries have them. They are delicious.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. And they make a lemon one, a lemon version. Then they make a raspberry lemon version, which has lemon uh buttercream in the middle. Oh, did it look good? And they make cranberry scones, and of course, they have all kinds of coffees at this place. And if you want to search it out, they have a video where you can see the baker from the naked lemon making all of her stuff.
SPEAKER_03You don't often see a bakery have its own video, but no, the I've seen the everyday kitchen here, it is one of the only places I've seen. They have videos of them making their donuts, but I've never seen, yeah, like you say, anywhere else.
SPEAKER_01It all looks very appealing in a very appealing city.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01And we will be right back after this message.
SPEAKER_02What is the Oz factor? British ufologist Jenny Randles coined this term when she noticed that some UFO witnesses described a feeling that time seemed to somehow slow down and sounds faded away from the real world. Once in a lifetime moments that seemed to confound all their senses. Staring at objects that are just not possible, and when the craft flew away, realizing they had a camera in their hand and somehow they had forgotten to take a picture. Many other witnesses who see craft land near them and somehow go about their day and not think about the event until hours or days later. Are these beings able to control and manipulate time? Can they control our thoughts and behaviors? Can they take away our memory? Or is it that our brains are protecting us from experiences that are outside of the framework of our reality? The Oz factor. What would you do if you were suddenly confronted by a craft or beings that were beyond your understanding of all that you have experienced in life?
SPEAKER_01So, Christine, on today's uh report that we're gonna be talking about, it's another one of those reports taken from the RCMP files. Now, this one is a little bit different because the RCMP uh constable, he actually saw the UFO. So I think most of the ones we've covered, the officers involved, they are talking to the people who saw the UFO. But this guy, he actually actually saw it. And uh his he was on vacation, so he had his wife with him, and his wife saw it. So there's two witnesses to this. So we're gonna set this up, like where this happened in in uh in Canada, and uh Joy is gonna actually read the reports a little bit later. The one thing I want to mention that this happened on October 3rd, 1969, and it was witnessed by Constable Sidney Berry and his wife uh Vivian Berry. And I'm gonna paint kind of an audio picture of where this all happened. So this happened in the Canadian province of Manitoba, and it's roughly an area uh around what is known as uh Whiteshell Provincial Park, which is located in the southeast of Manitoba. And the park is roughly about 120 kilometers or 75 miles east of uh Winnipeg, which is the big city in uh Manitoba, and it also takes place over several kilometers of Highway 44, which is an east-west uh provincial highway. Now, this highway is about 149 kilometers long or 93 miles, and it was just kind of finished being built in 1968, so just shortly before uh the constable was using it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and unfortunately, Whiteshell Provincial Park uh was in the news last summer. If you all remember the devastating wildfires on the prairies last year in 2025, they had to close the park due to wildfires. And I think uh someone said it's the first time we've ever been ordered to evacuate. There were people, there's ranches in the area, there are people evacuating their horses, they declared a state of emergency. The whole park was evacuated, and it was at the time the largest active wildfire in the province at the time.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And this is um, if I remember, this plus several other large fires, it was causing all this smoke to drift down into the U.S. Yes, which was uh causing them to have lots of smoky days in a lot of major uh cities.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and of course, what is the big thing about a provincial park? Tourism. And a lot of local people took a hit. Uh, but of course, you know, it was safety first because it was just the beginning of the season. Uh and there were people setting up water sprinklers on their ranches if they hoped they could save them if the fire reached their property. They had, you know, local business owners were canceling cabin rentals, and hopefully they can bounce back this season. I mean, it's been kind of dry on the prairies, so we're hoping they're none of us are going to have a wildfire season like this again.
SPEAKER_01Now, Constable uh Sidney Berry, the the guy who saw all this, he worked out of the Pine Falls Detachment in uh Manitoba. It is now called the Powerview Pine Falls Detachment. And I took a look at it, so it's a pretty small area. There's not many people that live there, and the detachment is is uh pretty small even uh today, so it might probably even smaller back then. Also, in the report, you're gonna hear them talking about uh the vehicle he was driving. So he was driving a 1968 Ford Falcon. Now the Falcon was considered an intermediate size car. You could get it in two-door, four-door, or station wagon version. He didn't mention which version that he had. And this happened, this all took place around 8 45 p.m. So it would have been uh dark in October. Uh and October 3rd, 1969, that was a Friday. So now let's listen to Joy read from Constable Sidney Barry's report, which he typed up on November 11th, 1969.
SPEAKER_02This is the actual report made by Constable S. B. Barry, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Division D, November eleventh, nineteen sixty-nine, subdivision Winnipeg, detachment Pine Falls. UFO sighting at Whiteshell Provincial Park near White Mouth, Manitoba, the third of October 1969. Number one. While proceeding on annual leave on the 3rd of October 1969, in company of my wife, Mrs. Vivian Barry, with Quebec as our destination, we witnessed an unidentified flying object near Highway 44 in the White Shell area. Number two. The road was extremely poor, being under construction, and we were traveling approximately 15 to 20 miles per hour. I noticed a light, which at first I believed to be some kind of a reflection on my windshield. However, I stopped further up the road to clean off mud from my headlights, and I could see the light more plainly in the sky. It seemed to be ahead of us, just off the road over the bush. While driving on, it began to take shape, that of an inverted saucer, and appeared to be hovering, moving back and forth in short, jerky movements. It was a light pink color, but very intense, like steel when it became white hot. It puzzled both my wife and I as to what it was. Number three. At this point it seemed to be just over the trees ahead of us and remained in the same spot. It was misty and the visibility was not that good. However, the object remained ahead of us and became larger as we got closer to it. After approximately fifteen minutes, we were quite close, and it showed a white tail that snaked downwards towards the earth. It was quite large, approximately twenty feet in diameter, i.e. the pink saucer part. When we were approximately five hundred feet away, my electrical windshield wipers ceased operation and would not come back on. As I proceeded further, the headlights went out and the car stalled, but nothing would come back on, and attempts to start my car, a nineteen sixty eight Falcon, were unsuccessful. I disembarked from the car, still observing the UFO, and it disappeared noiselessly at a great rate of speed towards the southwest, leaving no trace other than the area having a heaviness about it and a strange odor. The time was approximately 8 45 PM DST Central Time Zone. Number four. We were approximately five miles northwest of Rennie, Manitoba when we were the closest to the object. It was quite dark that night, and there was only the one object. After the object had disappeared, everything operated once again, and we continued on to Kenora, Ontario, then Vermilion Bay, Ontario, where we stayed overnight. Number five. I did not report the object at the time because I was proceeding on vacation, and only upon returning to Pine Falls and relating my experience to Corporal D.K. Shaw did I make my written report on the 29th of October 1969. Concluded here. Signed Constable S. B. Barry, Pine Falls Detachment.
SPEAKER_01So that was Joy reading the report. Now we're going to discuss what um Joy was talking about. The first thing I want to bring up is kind of an odd uh coincidence, is that uh only forty-five miles away by car, or around twenty kilometers as the crow flies, is Falcon Lake.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And that is the famous Canadian incident where uh Steve Micheluk had his encounter, and that was on May 20th, uh, 1967. So right in the same vicinity.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Falcon Lake is considered part of Wakeshell Provincial Park.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it makes you wonder like that close. Like uh, you know, if you could walk, there's no road that goes directly there, but you know, as the crow flies, it's only 20 kilometers away, so not very far away at all. Now, as Joy mentioned, when uh Constable Barry saw this, the light was just above the tree line. And so they were driving at the time, driving on Highway 44. And you know, as they drove, they got closer and closer to it, and altogether they saw this for around a little bit over 20 minutes. So they had a long, long time to look at it. And I thought it was funny that he mentioned in the report that uh at one point they were driving at between 15 and 20 miles per hour because a lot of the road was under construction, and it's funny because the road had just been finished, I think several months before. So maybe you know, parts of it they had to come back and fix or whatever. So eventually, this the light that he had saw off in the distance, then as he got closer, it looked like an inverted uh saucer, and of course, it was hovering, moving back and forth in the and short uh jerky movements, and he said it was pink in color. Now, this is the part that I find really fascinating is when he talked about it had this white tail that kind of snaked down to the ground. So you don't often read that. I mean, we have had uh, and just recently we have had several RCMP accounts where the witnesses saw a beam of light going down to the ground, which I thought, isn't that funny? But this was actually like a kind of a a beam of light, but it was, you know, as he called it snaking down to the ground, so twisting and turning. That is very unusual. I I'm trying to think of another case where I've heard of something like that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I can't think of one.
SPEAKER_01And so the uh the UFO is 20 feet wide, and eventually they got to within 500 feet of the object, which which is fairly close. And then he mentioned in this order, as they were getting closer to it, his windshield wipers stopped working. Then shortly after that, his headlights went out, and then the car stalled. And that is such a it's almost like a cliche in uh UFO reports. That has happened so many times. It it just makes you wonder, um, you know, all of these scientists and people like that who have looked into these reports, if you saw something like that happen not once or twice or ten times, like probably literally thousands of reports have this in there. I mean, wouldn't if you were a scientist, wouldn't you be curious? Like, wouldn't you want to investigate it just for that reason alone? Like, what is causing uh this to happen?
SPEAKER_03Well, he mentions also area uh heaviness in air and a strange odor. I think is he describing a feeling of electrical discharge like a storm? You know how you can feel the air gets heavy. Yes. And oh what kind of odor?
SPEAKER_01I know.
SPEAKER_03I want to know.
SPEAKER_01This is another one of those times where we wish we wish we could go back and be there to ask these questions. Um one thing, I mean, I looked it up, and uh there's a few things that can cause a heaviness. Now, what he actually meant exactly, I don't know that we'll ever know, but uh a heaviness can be caused by a low atmospheric pressure. Now, I know not everybody feels that. I'm one of those people that I do feel it. I can tell you when the barometric pressure has gone way down because I can actually feel that. I it just is different than a normal, a normal day. And then also that believe it or not, because I looked this up, there's a lot of people who can feel electricity in the air. Yeah, and they have many accounts of how that can happen. And the strange odor, it'd be interesting to know if this was the smell of ozone. I wondered about that he was smelling because that's associated with a lot of electrical things. And you know, when you think of it, these are all like important and scientific kind of clues that if people uh looked into, it could actually point to something really important or a discovery that was really important. Now, at one point he did something, and I always uh mentioned this throughout all the reports. Uh, it's the last thing I would ever be doing. So he got out of the car to get a better look at the UFO. And, you know, because I read so many stories and books, uh, I would be not only not getting out of the car, I'd be turning around and going in the opposite uh direction. But there are a lot of people that are a lot more inquisitive than me, thank goodness.
SPEAKER_03Well, it is the RCMP officer in him, though. Yes, yes, I think that's his training speaking.
SPEAKER_01Yes, that's something uh, you know, now they've interviewed several of them, that they're all kind of built that way. They're kind of running going towards the danger, not not going away from it. And they don't think anything of it. It's not like, well, weren't you scared? Well, they don't even think of that, right? They just no just going towards finding out what it was. Then he also mentioned that uh the craft never made any sound. And eventually after he got out of the his vehicle, the craft uh went in a southwest direction at uh great speed, and of course, then it disappeared. I believe I'm pretty sure that this was the first RCMP report that we've covered where. The actual RCMP person actually saw the UFO. Yeah. Actually, now they think of it, is we did an episode on uh many RCMP constables seeing UFOs over the parliament buildings. And they witnessed it, including the commissioner and an assistant commissioner at the time witnessing the UFO. So I have to correct myself. That was that I think that is the only other case where the uh RCMP constables or personnel actually witnessed the UFO themselves.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so there's a good question because we've read a lot of UFO reports and we've commented on what good researchers the RCMP have been. How would you describe this RCMP officer as a witness?
SPEAKER_01It was pretty good. Um the one thing that made me a little bit concerned was like, so he was on vacation, so he didn't report it till he came back. And I thought it was amusing that when he came back from vacation, he reported it to Corporal uh Shaw. And it was Corporal Shaw who said, Well, you better write that up. So I don't know if I don't know if he actually was gonna write it up until the corporal mentioned something.
SPEAKER_03And if he didn't take notes, yeah, this is from memory, I guess.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I thought it was okay. I think it it in certain respects it was uh fairly detailed because you know he talked about the smell, uh, he talked about the heaviness in the air. I don't think that is generally asked. Like they they never ask was there a smell associated with the UFO or any other uh natural phenomena.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I think all in all it was it was pretty well done. Yeah. I would have liked to have seen his wife uh also give her version of what happened. That would have been interesting. So now Joy is gonna read the telex that was sent to the Canadian Force at headquarters in Ottawa, and also a letter that was signed off by two superintendents in the RCMP.
SPEAKER_02This is from a telex five slash eight priority def Winnipeg sub twenty ninth of October nineteen sixty nine unclassified. Priority def Pine Falls DET twenty ninth of October nineteen sixty nine unclassified NRC Meteor Center Infocom Autoba Canadian Forces Center D Division Pine Falls thirty UFO Report A third of october nineteen sixty nine approximately eight forty five PM DST Central Time Zone B Rainy Misty C Constable S B Barry number two four six four seven D approximately five miles northwest Rennie, Manitoba, PTH number forty four E wife misses Vivian Barry F inverted saucer shape, flat bottom, approximately twenty feet in diameter, luminous intense pink color, altitude fifty to one hundred feet above trees, hovering in short rocking motion, stationary when seen at closest point, and then disappeared extremely fast in matter of seconds, noiselessly before leaving showed an intense white snake like tail extending toward the ground. No definite outline other than intensive lighted glow one object G approximately fifteen to twenty minutes. H when first sighted, approximately five miles away, appeared to be just a glow in sky and remained stationary. As approached, appeared to have more shape and hovering in short rocking motions. When approximately five hundred feet away, electric windshield wipers of observers vehicles stopped working. Headlights went out, and car engine stopped. Tried to restart engine without success. Constable Barry got out of car, still observing UFO, and it disappeared to southwest at excessive rate of speed. After UFO disappeared, area appeared to have heaviness in air and strange odor. Returned to car immediately, and all equipment functioned. What I am about to read is a letter that is signed off by two different people in the RCMP. SPEAKER_01So there you have it, this um very interesting case. Um one thing, and we've mentioned this in many other of our RCMP reports. Uh normally there's just one superintendent that is sending a letter to uh the defense headquarters and the commissioner of the RCMP, but we have two superintendents on that uh letter signing their names. And I'm thinking this just goes to show you again how important they took this because uh, you know, not just one superintendent, but two of them. And the superintendent in the RCMP is fairly uh high up in uh the ranks. And these were sent to the commissioner of the RCMP and also the Department of Defense in Ottawa, and I was talking to some people the other day because I started to think, you know, as we've read these RCMP reports over the last couple of seasons, so many of them are sent to the commissioner. And I thought, now is he actually reading all of these? Like, you know, can you imagine all the work that he does? And I was told by a reliable source that while he might not read every single report, he's definitely aware of them and uh definitely reading some of them. So I thought that was very interesting because I thought, you know, this is just stuff that's just getting filed. You know, we're not reading all these things. Now, something else when I was investigating the two gentlemen that signed off on the the letter that they sent the commissioner, there's actually a photo of uh five uh RCMP uh personnel standing in a very nice uh place, and they're behind the eventually what would be the Queen and Prince Philip. She was just a princess at the time, and that and that picture was taken on November 19th, 1952, because they actually got invited to England to do this. Well do this portrait. So one of the gentlemen that signed off on the letter that Joy was reading, his name is um Gene We Met. And he passed away at the age of 89 in back in 2005. But there's a picture of him on the internet standing in front of the pitch uh in front of the future queen, which I thought, oh, that was something you don't often see, especially when I do my um research into these guys.
SPEAKER_03I'm just still surprised that we did one with an RCMP officer actually reporting the UFO.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes, we don't often get that. I think it adds just an extra uh bit of credibility because you know he's putting his name on it. Yeah, and I don't know if he knew it at the time, but uh two different superintendents would be reading his uh report, and then also his report was going to the commissioner. So you better be sure about what you're saying, that's for sure. Yeah. Uh for sure, we will be going into more RCMP reports, uh at least a few more during the rest of the season. Uh, they are such a high-quality source of very good UFO reporting and information, and very few of them are kind of known at all, which is unfortunate.
SPEAKER_02Here are the Canadian civil aviation anomalies for the week of February 9th to February 13th, 2026. On February 9th, a West Jet Encore de Havilland aircraft on a flight from Winnipeg International Airport to Calgary International Airport declared minimum fuel. Priority service was given to flight WEN 3547. No emergency declared. On February 11th, a remotely piloted aircraft system was observed in front of the tower at 500 feet and climbing. Nothing was approved in NAV drone for that area. The Vancouver police were advised. On February 12th, during the night at 0331 Zulu time, a West Jet Encore de Havilland aircraft flying from Regina International Airport to Edmonton International Airport reported seeing lights bouncing around and zigzagging back and forth. The Canadian Air Defense Sector Identification was advised. There was no impact on operations, and all flights proceeded to their destinations without further incident.
