Originally released as Season 3, Episode 17 on February 19, 2025.
Three women reported seeing an enormous UFO hovering over their Calgary apartment complex on January 2, 1975. According to statements taken by the RCMP, the silent grey craft approached from the distance before stopping approximately 350 feet above them.
Using the apartment building as a reference, the investigating officer estimated that the object may have measured approximately 180 feet long and 120 feet wide. The witnesses described brilliant lights around the craft and an unusual tan, Y-shaped marking across its underside.
The encounter became even stranger when the women reported that the normally populated area seemed strangely deserted. One witness screamed and jumped up and down as a man walked past, yet he apparently failed to notice either her distress or the massive object overhead.
Michael Ryan and commentator Christine Scott examine whether this disturbing sense of isolation could represent the “Oz Factor”—a sensation of altered reality sometimes reported during close UFO encounters. They also consider whether the witnesses may have experienced missing time.
Also featured in this episode:
• A 1963 Royal Canadian Air Force memo concerning Project Magnet and Canadian UFO researcher Wilbert B. Smith
• Reports of mysterious lights observed by pilots over Western Canada
• The unusual illnesses reported by former workers at Area 51
• A discussion of the important role the RCMP played in investigating Canadian UFO reports

SPEAKER_00You are listening to the UFO Talker Podcast. Come with us as we explore UFOs from the past and the present. With insightful discussions, interviews, and reviews, we will add our voice to the mysteries that have been seen in our skies and oceans for all of human history. Now, here's our host, Michael Ryan.
SPEAKER_01Welcome everybody to the podcast. This is season three, episode 17, coming to you from Studio 7H, overlooking the beautiful Trent River here in Ontario, Canada.
SPEAKER_03And I'm Christine Scott coming to you from Studio 9B in the beautiful warehouse district in Regina, Saskatchewan.
SPEAKER_01And on this episode, we're gonna have uh we're gonna be talking about an extremely large UFO that was witnessed by three people that included, I would say, the Oz Factor in Calgary, Alberta. And there may have even been missing time. So that'll be a little bit later in the show. But before we get to that, oh Christine, we always mention something about the weather. Well, do I have weather for you?
SPEAKER_03Like you got weather for everybody. Yes.
SPEAKER_01But boy, did we make up for that over the last few days. I'm gonna say we got oh, within 48 hours, we easily got probably 35, 40 centimeters. Um, outside of my garage, there is like three to three and a half foot snow drifts. Like it is a lot of snow, and not I can't beat Chris and Regina, but today it's minus 14 Celsius, which is uh about uh seven Fahrenheit, and with the wind chill, it's more like minus twenty-three, which is just so you know, if you don't live in a cold place, that is very, very cold. Thank you very much.
SPEAKER_03And I believe overnight here we're probably gonna be about minus forty-eight. With the wind chill. Don't quote me. I we might be close uh colder than Mars tonight.
SPEAKER_01Minus forty-eight. Yeah, sir. Really?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's that's getting into like ridiculous.
SPEAKER_03It's like that's just ridiculous there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Minus forty-eight. So for people who don't live in any in places in the world where it's nowhere near this cold, if your car has been left out in a like a minus twenty or minus forty-eight uh overnight or any long period of time, when you actually start moving, your tires are feel almost square because they go thunk, thunk, thunk, thunk. It takes them a while to get to get that spot worn out where the car was resting on the on the tire and and the seat, oh, it's like a nice hard block of ice. Yeah. You haven't lived till you've No Till you've experienced that, and then putting your hands on the nice ice cold steering wheel.
SPEAKER_03Well, yeah, and yeah, in casual conversation today with a couple of our usual young lads. Oh, last night at work my my buddy's car battery died, so I had to go help him out, and I think I got frostbite at work. And that's just like uh-huh, everyday conversation right now. Like, oh, have a good day.
SPEAKER_01So, Christine and listeners, today, this is our 99th episode, and of course, everyone knows what that means. It means next week our 100th episode. And you know, it's funny, it really does feel like a uh an achievement because when you think of it, a hundred episodes. Wow, that is that is a lot. That's more than my mother the car for people who remember them.
SPEAKER_03If we were a sitcom, we'd be syndicated. Yes, because that's what you get. A hundred episodes you used to get syndication.
SPEAKER_01Right on.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So and then there's residuals.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, not always. I can tell you about a couple of cases where I had to sign off to get fewer residuals. Oh boy. That's gossip. I can tell you later.
SPEAKER_01And we also have there's a couple of uh UFO uh events that we want to talk about, and one of them is the Shag Harbor UFO Expo, which takes place October 3rd through 5th, and that is at the Rod Grand Hotel in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, which, as we've mentioned before, is a beautiful part of the country. And the speakers are all good. There's going to be Kevin Randall, who would be excellent to listen to, and we've interviewed him. And uh Preston Dennett, also we've interviewed. He's another great guest guest, uh, Mark DiAntonio, um, and Chris Styles, who I like to call Mr. Shag Harbor. Everything begins and ends with Chris Styles regarding um Shag Harbor events, and then also we've got one. Now, this one is a new one to me. It's called the Lake Superior Paranormal Convention, and that's being held at Thunder Bay, Ontario, and that is October 16th through 19th, and they're gonna have uh guest speakers talk about UFOs, paranormal investigating, hauntings, and cryptozoology. And the speakers include uh Chris Rodkowski, Elliot Van Dusen, Mike Ricksecker, and others to be announced. But that is uh I wouldn't mind going to that one either. That's gonna be and it's not that far away. I mean, it's a bit of a a junk. Thunder Bay is pretty far north, but that sounds interesting, also.
SPEAKER_03These all sound like they'd be so great to go to.
SPEAKER_01I know, I know. There is, and we uh like mentioning all of these uh conventions and expos, and there is a lot of them coming up, and a lot of them look like a lot of fun. It's it looks like a great place to meet people of like minds, and uh in many cases, here's some really interesting uh speakers. So, Christine, we have a bit of uh UFO news, and I found an interesting story. It was uh from a few days ago, it was released by a reporter at News Nation, and it really caught my attention because they had interviewed this uh gentleman. His name is Dave Crete, and he was part of a group of 400 men and women that were uh that worked at a very top secret project uh on Area 51. And they had had a little club where all these people would meet, they're mainly retired now, and they started talking amongst themselves, and they realized that an abnormal amount of them were getting these strange kinds of um cancers. And when they started to look into it and contact the VA Veterans Administration in the U.S., um, it turns out they couldn't get any uh health care benefits as the U.S. Department of Defense says that all of their work, including their names, are classified, so they don't really exist. And this was something that happened, if you if everyone remembers their Randlesham Forest uh news, that was what happened to Airman uh John Burroughs. He had been very close to the UFOs that had landed, and he had got a strange illness that had really dogged him for many years. But with the help of um the late Senator uh John McCain, in 2015, the U.S. government acknowledged his health issues resulting from the encounter with the UFO in Rendelsham Forest. And I think that may have been the only time that they have done something like that. So he was able to get uh to be fully covered. But this gentleman that was on News Nation, Dave Creet, so they're trying to do the same thing now and see if they can get um uh their benefits uh reinstated. But the problem is because the program and also the men that men and women who worked on the program is classified, so it their records don't really exist. That's a really that's a really a hard thing to get around, right? And I think you and I before the show, we were talking that we have both seen programs from a long time ago where Area 51 is exempt from any kind of uh, you know, federal laws on polluting or anything like that. And I had heard people saying, you know, just horrible chemicals were just being dumped into the ground.
SPEAKER_03I mentioned the at from the Annie Jacobson Area 51 book that someone she uh interviewed talked about. They were experimenting with all these different types of paint there, like you know, radar reflecting and visibility paint, and they just dumped them. You know, they they were just dumped, they were probably mixed together. I'm pretty sure people were subject to a lot of OSHA violations, breathing in fumes. I vividly remember that paint story from her book.
SPEAKER_01I know, I know that what I remembered of it was um it got the Area 51 had a special exemption, so pretty much anything goes in Area 51. So, Christine, you know, we've been covering so much of UFOs in Saskatchewan, and you have a current story about Regina.
SPEAKER_03Hot off the press. Uh reported February 7th by our local CTV news affiliate. Reports of mysterious lights in Western Canada include sightings over Saskatchewan. Continued reports of mysterious lights over Western Canada still have people mystified as to where they may be coming from. Sightings follow reports from pilots in the Regina and Winnipeg areas. Uh air traffic controllers made note of the pilot's sightings and filed a report. And it comes with a video clip, and it actually has the transcript. Pilot saying, Yeah, forming triangles, then flying away, then coming back. Three lights in a triangle formation, flying in a random movement, left and right, up and down, all over the place. And then a third person saying, Yeah, it is really quite bizarre. Jerry Brote, the regional vice president for the Canadian Air Traffic Association, actually says, Oh, scenarios like these are more common than one might think.
SPEAKER_01And I believe when I saw when I read this uh story, it also, you know, they always have someone in there who is uh you know a skeptic. And they would then they were saying, Oh, you know what the pilots were seeing were uh satellites.
SPEAKER_03That was Mr. Chris Ritkowski at it.
SPEAKER_01And they said uh the pie one of the pilots even said, you know, it's not a satellite. I've seen I have seen satellites before.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01So there you go. So right there for Regina, which we know is uh just a hotbed of We're happening UFO activity. Next on our list, uh, you know, just when you think you know every possible nook and cranny of ufology, uh you're proven wrong once again.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01But Christine mentioned something to me that I thought, what? And I looked it up. So it's uh Nathan W. Pyle. And she said, Oh, you've got to look this guy up. He has a cartoon and all kinds of great stuff. But Christine, you're gonna tell our listeners what you told me, and it and probably most of the listeners were going, Oh, we're we knew that years ago, but I was surprised, never heard of it before.
SPEAKER_03Well, Nathan W. Pyle, uh, if you're on the internet or Facebook, you've people have likely even shared his his wonderful cartoons with you. Uh he's a cartoonist who has a strip called Strange Planet, which is about cute little uh blue aliens in everyday situations. But Nathan says he does not call them aliens because all the scenarios take place on their planet. We are the visitors. And why people like them are they're they're quite adorable and they go through you know life situations, but the way they talk is what makes them really endearing. They say things like, uh, I don't want to give too many too many strips away, but for instance, on uh on Valentine's Day, he had a really sweet little uh cartoon. One of the aliens, oh I shouldn't say aliens, beings is handing the other one a little valid, a heart with an arrow through it, and he's saying, I drew a vital organ being wounded. And then handing uh the other person at the table uh some flowers and saying, also, these are dying. And the other one says, so meaningful. They're just very sweet and deadpan and everyday life situations. And uh there is actually day planners, somebody just sent me a birthday card. They're everywhere, and they're very wholesome and a lot of fun.
SPEAKER_01I know, I know. Somehow I I missed this, but yeah, uh I will try and put a link to his uh to his website so people who are like me who are the uninitiated can uh find it.
SPEAKER_03Oh, he does have an Apple TV series called Strange Planet. I don't know, see, I am such a huge fan of his. To me, I know what the beings sound like in my head. It's the kind of thing where if you see an animated character and the voice doesn't quite match up, you go, I don't think that's what that sounds like.
SPEAKER_01I know, I know. Yeah, you know, it's when uh people who had read the Peanuts cartoons for so many years and then you saw it on TV, although I think they really nailed it with the voices that they what wasn't the the original Peanuts uh cartoons on TV wasn't the first time where actual kids did the voice.
SPEAKER_03I believe it is.
SPEAKER_01Because before it was adults did the children's voices. So, Christine, it is time once again to give out our shout out to a small town or city where we have listeners to this fine upstanding podcast. And today, our shout-out town is Kenora, Ontario. And it has a population of 14,967 people. It is in the northwestern part of Ontario, kind of near the uh Manitoba border, and it is on the shores of the Lake on the woods. I mean, that just sounds good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And I was really impressed because um again, you know, as I watched the videos, uh, it was a pretty nice little town. Like the the the uh city hall building is a really old building, but it's definitely been kept up and refurbished. It looks really nice. The main street is is really happening, and they also have a 40-foot-tall uh statue of a musky fish.
SPEAKER_03I love towns like that with huge statues. I was so I love that, you know, roadside attraction type things, and and 40 foot tall, that's pretty tall.
SPEAKER_01That's a that's a big fish.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's pretty glorious. It was 1967, the year of the Canadian centennial, town mascot. And like I said, I love these roadside attraction, town mascot things.
SPEAKER_01And his name is Husky. Husky the Muskie.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I have to say, for a statue of a very tall fish, it's pretty nice looking. It's it is, it's pretty pretty attractive. Um and the other thing is that you know, most of these videos I watch of all these places, if they're in a northern climate, they only make these videos in the summer. So of course it's Kenor in the summer, which looks absolutely great, but I can imagine there is quite a bit of snow there.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Right now, and quite cold.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But um, they do have they do have some bakeries. They don't have a ton of bakeries, but they have some bakeries. But leave it to me. I have found the bakery that we want to talk about on the podcast. And the name of this uh it's it's a two-for-one this episode because the coffee and bakery I've combined into the same place, and it is called the Hojo. And it looks fantastic, it looks like the kind of place you'd find in a small town and you'd want to pull up a chair and have a nice cup of Joe. And they had a couple of things that caught my attention right away. So, once again, I am not a huge coffee drinker, so if everyone knows what this is, uh, feel free to laugh at my ignorance of the coffee realm. They have something called a blondie. And it is made with espresso, with white chocolate syrup, white chocolate sauce, steamed white milk, and whipped cream. So that does sound good.
SPEAKER_03And do you know there is it's it's more common in Australia. I've made these. The opposite of a brownie is a blondie. They're white, I may I've made them, they're white chocolate brownies. And I thought, yeah, a blondie, you know, if you had the coffee with the brownie, it would be very compatible.
SPEAKER_01It I mean, it just sounded good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then also they have a blueberry lemon scone, which they have in big letters, only made on Thursdays.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I can imagine, and they sell out pretty quickly, I bet, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And they also make food at this um this bakery, and a lot of it, of course, looks delicious. But when I looked this up, as soon as I read it, I felt I have to have this right now. And of course, I can't because I'm not anywhere near Kenora. But the name of the sandwich is called Never Had It So Good Grilled Cheese.
SPEAKER_03I'm already wanting that. Yes.
SPEAKER_01And it is made with bacon, cheddar cheese, tomate tomato, and cream cheese on French bread.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yum.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Just, you know what? I've heard I've seen a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches, and they'd say what they put in it, and I go, that'll be good, because grilled cheese, I mean, you you can't get it wrong, really.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_01But when I read that, I you know what threw me over the edge? The tomato.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01I've never I've you know, maybe this is where you're from, uh, the listeners out there, it's normal to put tomato in there, but I've never had a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato. So that for me put it over the edge. Tomato and a grilled cheese with bacon. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yes, that that's almost worth a drive to Kenora, but it's the winter, so almost not. Is how that works.
SPEAKER_03And the most famous person. From Kenora is the current premier of uh Manitoba, Wab Canu.
SPEAKER_00Wow.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, who is Ashinaabe. And I thought, I thought he was born in Manitoba. But this is Kenora's very close to the Manitoba border. Yes. And there's Ashonabe on both sides, you know. So yeah. And there was there's also a very famous Western Canadian novelist named Ralph Connor, who was born there. He's probably more famous out here in the West, but he's like a romantic Western Canadian 20s, 30s uh writer, very popular out here for people who do read the older books. So those are the two most famous people I saw.
SPEAKER_01I know. There you go, Kenora. Who would have who would have thought it? But Christine, we gotta grab our cup of Joe and our bacon cheddar cheese and tomato grilled cheese sandwich.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_01And we will be right back after this message.
SPEAKER_02Will we ever find out the mystery behind unidentified flying objects? For over 75 years, the mystery has been just beyond our grasp, showing itself when we least expect it and when we are not prepared for it to enter our lives. Military pilots, astronauts, scientists, police officers, and citizens all being faced with the unknown and the unexplained. Craft of all shapes and sizes, silently hovering, turning colors, flying at speeds that are not humanly possible. Over time, some of us have witnessed these objects. Some of us have touched these objects. Some of us have been harmed by their unknown energy source. Some of us have been abducted by the beings who can appear from nowhere. Will we ever find out the mystery behind unidentified flying objects? What is going on behind the closed doors of government? Are they hiding the biggest secret, or is it like a giant puzzle with only a few of the puzzle pieces giving us a glimpse of something we will never understand? Maybe Captain Edward J. Rapelt was right. Only time will tell.
SPEAKER_01You know, 180 feet by 120 feet, like just mammoth. And as we get into it, there's a definitely the Oz factor is at play that I can make out. And also quite possibly missing time once you hear the full story. But um as people who've listened to the show for a while now, I'm making my way through these thousands and thousands of RCMP reports, and along the way, there's a lot of uh memos that are just seems like they're just placed in there randomly because they don't have anything to do with the reports that were before it or follow it, and some of them are little gold mines of uh information. So I found one that is definitely worth uh reading to you. It's I find it quite interesting. It's from it was written to the uh RCAF, Royal Canadian Air Force, on October 18th, 1963. And all I have is the gentleman's last name. It was written by uh Mr. Wench, and he has four questions that he's asked the RCAF, and they have answered them uh one by one. The only weird thing is he had Mr. Wench numbered his questions, and they answered them as letters. So instead of one, it's A, instead of two, it's B, and so on. That was kind of odd, but anyways. Um his first question, now keep in mind this is from October 18th, 1963. Uh, question number one Is Canada cooperating with the special United States programs for investigating of unidentified flying objects? And if so, is this entitled Project Magnet? So this is um C.R. Dunlap, who is the Air Marshal Chief of the Air Staff of the Royal Canadian Air Force, and he answered on October 21st, 1963. So one thing I've noticed from a lot of this correspondence uh back then is boy, they were on top of everything. They pretty much answered stuff within a few days. Um I mean to send a letter the October 18th, and a guy that is the air marshal, chief of air staff, answers it on the 21st, you you wonder what these guys were doing. Like, you know, what was their regular job because they were able to answer so quickly? But uh he answered uh Canada cooperates with the United States for the investigation of reports of unidentified flying objects. If report warrants investigation, the investigation is conducted by Air Defense Command. In the normal course of events, NORAD headquarters would receive a copy of the report. Also, investigations are not entitled Project Magnet, and in fact, no code name is applied to reports of unidentified flying objects. And then Mr Wench asks in question two, is Project Mag Magnet an unpublished worldwide operation using specially equipped superconstellations, non uniform pilots, and civilian scientists? And they answer Project Magnet was the brainchild of the late Wilbert Wilbert B. Smith of the Department of Transport, a project which he carried on in his own time without government financial support. Because the records of Project Magnet were never available to the Department of National Defense, nothing is known about their equipment or personnel. So that is something we've talked about on the show before earlier on. We've talked about Project Magnet. And I'm going from memory now, but I thought there was some uh government backing for Project Magnet, but he is saying that there was nothing like that. And this is '63, so it would not have been generally known the way it is now, you know, because of the internet and things like that. People are a lot more uh aware of uh Wilbert Smith and everything he did. So it would have been a lot more fresh in everyone's mind. So he was the uh the guy who's answering C.R. Dunlap, uh he was really laying down the law that really this was a project that Wilbert Smith did on his own time and was not funded by the Canadian government. So Mr. Wench, he asks in question three, was the late Wilbert B. Smith a government scientist the head of the Canadian section of the UFO research operation? And Dunlap answers Wilbert B. Smith was employed in the, and I can't read the word, regulations division of the Department of Transport and was the head of a UFO research project which he conducted as a personal undertaking. And mister Winch's last question is any data available from Project Magnet to the general public? And CR Dunlap answers files and data compiled under Project Magnet, if any, are not controlled by the Department of National Defense. Therefore, availability of such data to the general public cannot be stated. And that was the end of that memo dated October 21st, 1963. So one thing that would have been interesting is uh if I was able, if it would have been possible to find out who Mr. Wench actually was. He didn't have a great handle on Project Magnet. I mean, that he knew what Project Magnet was was pretty good for back then because you know it's not like today with the internet when all kinds of information can be found out immediately, but it would not have been generally known what the project was called. Uh you would have had to have been in groups of people who had got information from someone else or from uh you know a book or something like that. He didn't really have a handle on Project uh Magnet, especially when he thought it was a worldwide operation, usually uh specially equipped super constellations, which is a which was a four-engine prop plane. But I thought I would we will drop these in from time to time because some of these memos that are just out of the blue, uh some of them contain very interesting uh bits of information. Um there's a couple more I have found. I won't tell you what they're about because I don't have all the information yet, but uh definitely worth talking about, that's for sure.
SPEAKER_03We are doing a report recorded by the RCMP UFO sighting, Calgary, Alberta, 2nd of January 1975. At 12 30 a.m. this date, Wendy Strawn of Calgary, Alberta advised that she, her mother, Mrs. Bernastrahn, and a friend Linda Marino, also in Calgary, had just observed an unidentified flying object. This sighting had occurred over their apartment blocks at the listed address. Calgary Detachment Telex, uh C D E T 4, was then forwarded to the National Research Council, Meteor Center, Ottawa, Ontario. Paragraph two, a patrol was made to the above address to interview the three ladies. This residence is situated nine miles south, two miles west. Um it says N slash S, which I assume means north-south, runway at the Calgary International Airport. Statements were then obtained from all three persons with copies attached here too. A drawing of the underside of the UFO made by Wendy Strand was obtained. This had been made at the time of the sighting. Copies of the drawing are attached. In her statement, Wendy advised that the UFO was as long as her apartment building and twice as wide. The city of Calgary advised that this block is 177 feet long, 62 feet wide, giving the UFO dimensions of approximately 180 by 120 feet.
SPEAKER_00Whoa.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Calgary International Airport control tower was contacted and a Glenn Reed, a controller, spoken to. He advised that on the 2nd of January, 1975, between 11 p.m. and 12 a.m., they had two large aircraft land and take off. The first was a landing at 11.15 p.m. A Lockheed L1011 jumble arrived from the east, landed in a northerly direction on the north-north runway. The second was a takeoff from the same runway in a southerly direction of a DC 8 at 1120 p.m. Inquiries into the credibility of the three ladies noted above were conducted. Nothing adverse was found that would indicate these persons were very imaginative or that they were looking for any special attention of any kind. All appeared quite stable and normal in their everyday activities. Uh signed Corporal DJ Howard. Concluded here.
SPEAKER_01It's funny, we we've mentioned this on a uh previous episode, but I think it's worth mentioning again. Is I believe I'm pretty certain of this, it was J. Alan Heinack who said this, and it was at the time of the Socorro, New Mexico uh sighting that uh patrolman Lonnie Zamora had. And he said in one of his books, I'm almost positive of this, he said, it's too bad there wasn't a team around that could go out and do all the investigating on these reports. And again, there was if the RCMP, at least in the 60s, 70s, and probably a little bit into the 80s, they did pretty good investigation on all of these reports. And you can tell from this first page, you know, he took the time to phone the city of Calgary to find out how big the building was. So he would have he called Calgary International Airport, he talked, he asked uh controller, he asked about flights coming and going, what flights were in the air. And then he also uh inquired into the the the credibility of the three ladies, which probably meant asking the neighbors. Yeah, character witness questions and so it's funny that here Jay Allen Heineck mentions this. It's too bad there wasn't such a uh an investigating uh team, and but there was, and I mentioned this before, and I mentioned it to a lot of people, that the RCMP, by default, at least in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s, they were a very special UFO investigating team. It's crazy to think of them that way because they're really a police force. But they did a lot of the legwork on a lot of these reports. And like I've mentioned before, I'm uh, you know, we're reading the more interesting reports. There was a lot of the reports were pretty dull, they weren't that interesting. They did the same amount of investigating on those as they did on the more detailed ones. So I just believe it it's worth noting again that I can't think of another organization, like a government organization, that went to this level of research, and I have to put in brackets that we know of.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that we know of.
SPEAKER_01I mean, there could have been secret organizations doing this to a different level, but that we know of that did this is actually is these reports, I believe that's why they're so incredible. Uh, because this is a podcast, you can't see this, but there is a picture of the UFO from the underside that um uh Wendy has uh drawn, and it kind of uh looks a little bit like an egg, I would say, not exactly, but it has this kind of a Y painted on the bottom, and the bottom of the Y would be at one end of the craft, and the V part of the Y, where the two arms, you know, make the Y part, is kind of more towards the middle, and the Y part of it, the arms, kind of terminate exactly in the middle of the craft. So there's not many reports of UFOs with symbols on them. No, and oddly enough, speaking about Lonnie Zamora, that was one that did have a symbol on it, but um, this is one of the very few I can remember where it actually has a symbol on it.
SPEAKER_03A very good drawing, too.
SPEAKER_01Yes. So now I'm gonna read the statement of uh Wendy Strawn, and she says on the 2nd of January 1975, at approximately 11 15 p.m., I was visiting with my uh friend Linda Marino, who lives at the same uh in the same apartment complex as she did. We were sitting talking at her dining room table. I was facing a window looking east. I saw a big bright light in the sky that I thought was a star, but it grew larger and larger. I told Linda to look out and we both went out onto the veranda to get a better look. We looked at it for about two minutes and it started moving our way. It was quite a distance away, and when it started moving towards us, we went outside to get a better look. We walked outside of the apartment building and it arrived above us in about twenty seconds. It stopped above us, there was no noise. It would be about three hundred and fifty feet above us. It was bigger than our entire apartment block, being about the same length and about twice as wide, or maybe a little more. There was no noise. It turned from a west direction to a northwest direction, at which time we heard a very high pitched sound, somewhat faint. There was no change in the outside appearance. It was gray in color with bright lights around it and extremely bright at each end. We could see a design underneath, light tan in color, like a large Y. The two arms of the Y started at approximately the middle of the vehicle with the leg reaching the rear. It was stopped over us for about five minutes. I was calling my mom. I wanted her to see it. I started to run to the house and then I ran back as I wanted to watch it. I came back and told mom. Linda stayed there and came in when it started to take off. Mom went outside when I was in, then Linda arrived and we both took off to get the car and follow it. We started to follow it and it took off. All the lights went out except for one little light and it was gone. It kind of amazed me that it could stop in one spot for so long. There did not appear to be anyone else around. Signed uh Wendy Strawn, and that was witnessed by Corporal DJ Howard. And before we go further, I just want to uh mention this because it'll get mentioned again as we read on, where she makes note of there did not appear to be anyone around. So jud you know, going by that this thing was huge, yeah.
SPEAKER_03That's what I'm saying, and only three of them said they saw it.
SPEAKER_01I know it it's one of these things where you know, in the Oz effect, is it is it time stops or stand still or who knows? But um Linda, she adds something to the story a little bit later on, then it's it makes it even all the more confusing, but we'll we'll talk about that.
SPEAKER_03I will read the statement of Verna Strawn, taken at residence, Calgary, Alberta, on the 2nd of January 1975, about 11:30 p.m. My daughter, Wendy May Strawn, and Linda Marino, an abor, phoned me and told me to go outside as they had seen something. Wendy was so excited, she said, There is a flying saucer outside. She was the one who was on the phone. I didn't go outside immediately until they came back to the suite. They told me they had been outside and had just come back in. They said this thing had been hovering over their heads while they were outside and that they had been screaming and jumping up and down at the time. They also said there was not another soul on the street. They said they could not find anyone. I then went outside onto the porch and looked east, where I saw an extremely bright light with a red light on the rear go out of sight, southward past the end of the building. I did not see the full object, just a part of it as it vanished. I then heard Wendy say, Let's go get the car and follow it. I came inside to stop them, but they had already gone, so I went back outside. I then saw this bright object heading in a northerly direction when all of a sudden it vanished. There were flashing white lights on this vehicle as it headed north. It was cigar-shaped. I have never ever seen anything like this in my life before, and I do not identify this object as an airplane. As I lived on a flying station up to twelve years ago and have flown commercially since. Signed, Mrs. Vernistrawn, and witnessed by Corporal B. J. Howard.
SPEAKER_01I know, I know. So she Mentions again that they said they could not find anybody, which is odd.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01For living in an apartment.
SPEAKER_03In Calgary.
SPEAKER_01In Calgary, which is a big city, and and everything's really close together.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Except when you get to the burbs and everything's spread out. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then the the th the part that it is bigger than the apartment building. Like how could that not be seen? But it reminded me, because as I was reading these reports earlier, um we had on, and I tried to go over my notes, but I couldn't find it. I'm almost positive it could have been in season one, where I interviewed someone who had seen a UFO. It was very, very similar to this, only it was in Ontario. And they were in an apartment building. The UFO came to their balcony. It was remarkably similar. I I can't uh I couldn't find it in my notes, and then I was just perusing the uh episodes, but I couldn't see it there. Maybe if one of the listeners remembers it from uh which episode it was, I think it would have been from season from season one, and it was definitely I'm gonna say it was Ontario, and it was two guys in their apartment on like the eighth floor or something, and the UFO came from far away to right in front of their apartment building. And uh if I can find it before the next episode, I'll mention it because boy, is it ever similar to this, but different years. This was 75. I believe the guys I talked to, it would have been the 90s, I think, something like that. Okay, so I'm gonna read the statement of uh Linda Marino, and she says on the 2nd of January 1975, at approximately 11 15 PM, I was in my living room at the above address talking about boys with Wendy Strawn. Wendy was sitting in a position so that she could look out my window to the east. Wendy then said, Look at the big light in the sky. We went to the window and looked at it. It was a white light. It looked like the star of Bethlehem. It was far away and came towards us. It appeared to be stopped hanging in the sky. We could see red flashes around it. It looked like it was stopped for about five minutes. We went outside out onto the balcony and it was close. It made no noise. It would be about as high as the Calgary Tower or maybe a little bit higher, and directly above us. It looked pretty big. It was about twice as big as a seven hundred forty seven. It was grey, grey brown between the lights, a tan color underneath in the windows. It turned from a west direction to the north. It was stopped at this time when it made the turn. I heard a noise like I had never heard before when it turned. It wasn't a very loud noise, nor was it like any plane. We then went down to the parking lot and Wendy went up for her mother. I was screaming and jumping for Wendy. A man came past and must have thought I was crazy. He did not appear to see the vehicle. This thing was heading north and we followed it in the car. We followed for about thirty seconds and then it just disappeared. And it was signed LC Marino, witnessed by Corporal DJ Howard. So this is the part where earlier I had mentioned about the the Oz factor because she says she was screaming and jumping, and a man came past and must have thought I was crazy. He did not appear to see the vehicle. So that doesn't make any sense.
SPEAKER_03No, and only one of them says I saw someone.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and if we just think about that for a minute, regard forgetting about the 180-foot by 120-foot UFO, which is only 350 feet high, which I I don't think you could miss that.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_01She was um jumping up and down and screaming. So even if you didn't have the time or didn't want to get involved or whatever, I think you would look at the person, wouldn't you? Like if there's a person screaming?
SPEAKER_03Like, yeah, and she says a man came by. There's nothing about I showed it to him, I pointed, he saw it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and so for getting that part, the screaming and yelling part, you would notice that. I mean, that is mammoth. Like that is you could not have possibly noticed it, not noticed it. And I think if you think about you know the British ufologist uh Jenny Randall's when she talks about the Oz factor where time stands still or time gets manipulated or something strange happens, it's possible that this Oz effect was in play here. Because, you know, maybe only uh Wendy, Linda, and the her mother or Verna, maybe they're the only three that could see this for whatever reason. You know, it could be that and you wonder because there was a little bit of confusion over the time part, right? And you wonder, could could they have been abducted? Is that a possibility?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Well, there's not a lot of I don't recall seeing a lot of times in the report. You know, like people say, I observed it for 15 minutes, and 30 minutes later it was here. There isn't it it looked like it was stopped for about five minutes, thirty seconds. You know, they're describing really short periods of time.
SPEAKER_01Now the other factor is though, there's a lot of people who say that.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01You know, it was only there for 10 minutes, but really it was two hours. Like they don't mention that they had looked at a clock or you know something other than what they had thought the amount of time had had gone by. Um it's a pretty interesting case because it's got those elements that take it to another level, like the the Oz factor, possibly missing time, so huge. And there are other cases of just absolutely huge UFOs where people see them and they're you know 800 feet wide or a thousand feet wide, like just incredible uh you know uh widths and lengths. And when you're as a reader, when you're reading this, you say, How is this possible? Like, you know, when they say they walked outside of their house and they saw a craft, it was 400 feet long and 200 feet wide, and it was 200 feet in the air. Like that would be mammoth. Like just unbelievable. But it's definitely makes this uh an interesting case for those elements that that uh make it hard to figure out. So, Christine, if I can find that other case, uh we'll mention it uh next week if I can find it, because it was so similar to to this case. And it's just this case is just one more example of the Oz factor where time is dilated or time is slowing down, or something is not happening correctly, because people aren't noticing what you're noticing, and you're obviously, you know, if you're jumping up and screaming, you would obviously notice it. But this is one more that we can file away under UFO for sure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Here are the Canadian Civil Aviation anomalies for the week of February 10th through February 14th, 2025. On February 10th, a sky service business aviation Boeing aircraft flying from Toronto International Airport to Victoria International Airport observed bright lights moving at a high rate of speed over northern Manitoba at 0330 Zulu time. On February 11th, an unidentified target was observed entering the northeast corner of CYR 410 on surveillance at 4,400 feet. The Shiloh Range Control was advised. Also on February 11th, an unknown target entered the Edmonton control zone flying from the north, proceeded through the runway 30 approach path, and exited to the southeast. No contact made. One aircraft was held from descending until the traffic had passed. There was no impact on operations, and all flights proceeded to their destinations without further incident.
