The Sparkle Project
The version of motherhood we're sold looks nothing like the one we're actually living. That's by design.
The Sparkle Project is for the moms who are done pretending otherwise, and ready to reclaim the parts of themselves that got lost along the way. Hosted by Emily MacDonald, a single mom, feminist, and late-diagnosed ADHDer, each episode digs into the identity shifts, invisible labor, and systemic failures that make motherhood so hard. You'll hear from the experts, advocates, and real women who are finding their way back to themselves, so you can feel less alone in the hard parts and more like yourself in all the rest.
Somewhere between the mental load and the mom guilt, your shine is still there. The Sparkle Project is your space to find it.

How Patterns of Self-Criticism Contribute to Mom Guilt with Amanda de la Madriz
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Self-criticism is unfortunately a part of most of our motherhood experiences, and in this episode I'm joined by Life and Mindset Coach Amanda de la Madriz for a conversation on how this impacts us and what we can do to combat it. With conscious effort, we can learn to be a little more compassionate towards ourself in motherhood and life.
In this episode, Amanda and I talk about:
- Thoughts that lead to mom guilt
- What self-criticism can look like (and how it can be fairly subtle)
- Factors that contribute to a lack of self-trust
- Connecting with what you actually want
- The relationship between self-criticism and self-hate
- The value of "real talk" for moms
A little about our guest:
Amanda de la Madriz is a Certified Life + Mindset Coach who focuses on teaching mothers how to love their mom lives so that they can drop the guilt and feel better. Working as a Career Coach since 2013, Amanda decided to dedicate herself solely to raising her children in 2016. And after experiencing the trials of pandemic parent life as a stay at home mom, she realized the desire to help other parents beat the burnout in their lives. Most recently certified through The Life Coach School, she has also now added thoughtwork to her toolset in order to help clients shift their mindset as well as achieve their goals. Her passion is entrenched in providing a fun and supportive space for her clients to unpack their brains and see what’s really going on, so that they’re able to make lasting changes in their lives.
