Gâday, you mob! Welcome back to another awesome episode on the Aussie English podcast. Iâve got some great stuff to share with you today, including learning about the expression âwaste not, want notâ.
First off, let me give you a little update on whatâs happening in my life. So, guess what? My adorable son has been pleading with me to get a new kitten to befriend our lovely cat, Peaches. đŸ Isnât that just the cutest idea ever? Iâm sure theyâll become the best of pals in no time. Iâll keep you posted on how that adventure unfolds!
Now, letâs dive into a fantastic question we received from our Instagram buddy, Frederico. He asked, âHow can I politely ask people about their jobs?â Well, Frederico, thatâs a great question! Asking about someoneâs profession is a wonderful way to show interest in their life. You can simply say, âWhat do you do for a living?â or âWhatâs your job?â People love talking about their careers, so youâll surely get some interesting conversations going!
Next up, we explore a cool expression today: âwaste not want not.â This saying means that if you use resources carefully, youâll never be in need. In other words, itâs all about being mindful and not wasting things that could come in handy later.
Listen in for some examples of how to use this expression, too! Imagine you have some leftover food; instead of throwing it away, you can store it and enjoy it later. Thatâs âwaste not want notâ in action! Or maybe you have some old clothes you donât wear anymore. Donating them to someone who needs them is a perfect example of using resources carefully.
Now, letâs practice the pronunciation of these words together: âwaste not want not.â Repeat after me a few times to get the hang of it!
And finally, for a fun listening exercise, weâve got a clip from the new iview TV show Gold Diggers. Itâs a delightful way to immerse yourself in Australian English and boost your listening skills â listen carefully to the intonation! Enjoy the clip and see how many words and phrases you can catch!
