Tim:

Welcome back, chris. Hope you're well rested because the season and we talk about all the time that the season's rolling along, but now we're starting hitting the busy part of the year.

Chris:

Yeah, I'm glad to be back. My family's glad that I'm back, you know I will say this it was a fun trip. I know you and me had a great time. We had a lot of good laughs, good stories, some James Brothers stories that we're not going to talk about on air, but uh, you know you got to me on there.

Chris:

No, no, but you got to. Uh, see my crazy golf group that that we travel with. But it was a great time, you know, played some good golf and back to get back in the grind here in el paso and uh, rest of the season.

Tim:

Yeah it really was a good time. Michelle did a great job in Michigan, gina did a great job in Louisiana and you know we've got, yeah, there's three regionals in July itself. So and then that means there's only four left after the month of July. So you better get on it. Yeah, if you want to get some, you know, get some points. You know you've got your two pocket. I call tupac, you've got your tin cup event coming up, so just make sure you you take more than your seven iron with you and, uh, good luck up there you know, I've done it one practice round.

Chris:

They, they have the hole where, uh, he tries to hit it over the water and it keeps going in the water. And they have the spot that he hit from onto the green and uh, on a practice round, I tried to pull my tin cup to see if I could make it and uh, no, I didn't.

Tim:

Let's say it went in the water I mean, how many times you put it in the water? Just once, or do you just?

Chris:

um well, I had a golf tournament to do that weekend so I just tried once because I needed golf balls for the tournament.

Tim:

I didn't want to buy any well, well, next episode you're going to have to let us know, because I want you to try it again, because you've also gotten better too. So I want you to give it a shot and we'll talk about it next time.

Chris:

Hey, if we play that course, it's a three-nine hole course, so we play that course. I may have to give it a go come tournament time if I'm around that area, Because you know I'm due for a win, I can feel it. I know it's coming. Got to get this putting down which I've been working on since I've gotten back and we're going to see what happens.

Tim:

Okay, you did well while you're gone, but remember, don't do something stupid.

Chris:

Oh right, right, right, I'm, I'm focused, now all right, let's go and get this thing started let's go ladies and gentlemen, golf week Week Amateur Tour the podcast Talking about all things Golf Week Amateur Tour, including interviews with tour directors, players and course pros. Now here are your hosts Atlanta Tour Director, Tim Newman, and El Paso Las Cruces Director, Chris Rocha.

Tim:

Chris, welcome back. Are you in El Paso? Are you in Michigan? Are you in Arizona? Where are you? These?

Chris:

days. Right now I'm back home in El Paso Going to get my season back on track. We got an event, or we had an event, and heading out to good old Arizona to kind of reclaim my victory at a 2 buck, which is my home course away from home we'll see what happens there.

Tim:

You know, just remember when we were away for these regionals, you played well two days back to back, so you can do it yeah, it's, it's there.

Chris:

It's just a matter of getting a little bit of pieces taken care of.

Tim:

But we'll get that, it's no problem when you got home, was the house intact or the house was intact.

Chris:

Um, they were excited to see us. Could have used a couple more days of quietness, but you know, being gone for so long it does take a toll on everybody. But glad to be home. You know they're excited they're coming with me to Arizona. We do this as a family trip to this resort, so they're super excited for that.

Tim:

That's good. Is your wife going too? Or is she saying, okay, I've already done one, no, no, so family just means chris is taking the boys and letting me stay home I mean, I, I, I bet you she wouldn't mind.

Chris:

um, I don't think gabe would have enough carts to be able to allow me down, my boys with me, uh, throughout the round. But, um, you know, it's a fun spot because there's no self-service, so you're not bothered by phone calls and spam and this and that, and just hang out by the pool, you know, walk around, see the cows and have a good time. We're taking our dog too, so we'll see how that goes.

Tim:

Oh, my goodness. Well, we've got a really good episode this week. We're going to talk to Gabe Garcia from Arizona. He's got his. I almost said Stand Up To Cancer, but it's not Stand Up To Cancer anymore. It's the Jimmy V fund auction We've got. We're going to talk to winners from the Fripp Island Regional that just took place and, remember, now we also have you know it's July 1st, so we're not going to forget any more holidays, chris. So I've got this on my calendar. July 4th is in a couple of days. So happy July 4th. Hope everybody enjoys that time.

Tim:

But also there are three regionals in the month of July. In case anybody didn't know, got the Midwest regional up at Big Cedar Lodge. There are three regionals in the month of July. In case anybody didn't know, got the Midwest Regional up at Big Cedar Lodge. That's going on today and tomorrow. The Independence Day Regional at Grand Dunes and Myrtle Beach. That's the 6th and the 7th, but the big one is July 27th and 28th at Sea Island. Now I don't know if you know this, chris, but this will be last year that weth at Sea Island. Now I don't know if you know this, chris, but this will be last year that we're at Sea Island so anybody who needs to get on this pronto.

Chris:

Yeah, I read that in the email and you know. Unfortunately it is the last time we're playing out there, but it looks like a great course. I'm excited to see what may be replacing it in, you know, next year, in the near future. But uh, if you haven't done a regional, this is your chance to do one. I did big cedar last year. It's a fun regional to go to. You have some time. Afterwards you can play pains valley, which I would go play that again every year if I could like. We keep saying these regionals, we keep putting on our bucket list to go out. Yeah, I wouldn't mind Innsbruck and Big Cedar next year. I'm just throwing that out there.

Tim:

Well, we still got to talk. There's still some negotiation for this year, so let's not start jumping ahead yet.

Chris:

We'll see, we'll see.

Tim:

Let's go ahead and welcome in Gabe Garcia, the tour director from Arizona. Gabe, welcome to the show. You know well, we always love having you, and what you're doing right now for for cancer research and and the auction is is phenomenal, so thank you, thank you for doing that.

Gabe:

I appreciate you guys having me on again so tell us what's going on.

Gabe:

So obviously you know, this year, with the changeover from Stand Up to Cancer to the V Foundation, we run an online auction that runs every year right around this time, from around Father's Day, leading up to a big dual tour event that we host with the El Paso Las Cruces Tour down at Two Bag Golf Resort, which is where they filmed Tin Cup, down at Two Bag Golf Resort, which is where they filmed Tin Cup. And so we've got the online auction running right now through July 9th. The cool thing about the auction is what they allow us to do is we try to get as many local packages as we can, but it's not geared specifically towards Arizona, so I'll share a website with everybody towards Arizona. So I'll share a website with everybody. It's www.32auctionscom. Forward slash, gwat, v Foundation, and there are packages all over the country. There's some international packages, there's stay-in-plate packages for resorts, there's spa treatments, cruises I mean anything you can think of. So, while, yes, the Arizona Tour is running it, and with a lot of help from the tours close by, like El Paso, vegas, california, denver, what have you any of our players nationwide can go on and look and see if they can find packages for local courses that might give them big discounts, big discounts, and what happens is we get a percentage of every package that's purchased to raise as much money as we can during this auction.

Gabe:

And for us and Chris knows this well we've been partners on this for years, but this year our fundraising has taken on a little bit more of a special meaning. The past handful of years, we've um donated all of the funds raised to in memory of roger tamieti, who was one of our original tucson members before we combined the two tours to become arizona. But, uh, in january, we lost another uh tour member, sean downs, who had been fighting cancer since I met since I know, know, from the time I met him back in 2018. And unfortunately, in January he lost his battle, and so all of the money that we raised this year and moving forward will be put in his name, along with Roger Temietti and both of their memories. So, um, you know, a little bit of extra meaning for us, particularly this year.

Chris:

So we've got some big goals that we're trying to reach and, uh, any's willing to to um, you know, to throw our way would be greatly appreciated yeah, I mean, gabe, I've told you this before and I always tell you you know what you do for, uh, the foundations that we, you know as a tour, try to participate with, you know, the outreach that you do is just is top-notch. So, um, keep up the great work. Uh, I unfortunately had to deal with that as well, with losing one of our members last fall to cancer, so it does touch us as well and I just want to say thank you for everything that you do I appreciate that and you know I always do when, whenever we have this conversation.

Gabe:

But, um, I think, if everyone doesn't know, but I was the original director of the of of the El Paso tour before I moved to Arizona and, um, it was when I moved to Arizona that, uh, you know the director at the time, rod Ronabon, rodney um, he was the one that actually was running the um at the time again, the standup to cancer closest to the pin contest at every event, and all we've done, you know, since we took over in 2019 um, is just try to expand on that and and try to grow and do as much as we possibly can, because this thing does hit, you know, it touches all of us, um, but, but it was, it was, uh, it was rodney that put this in place and we've just tried to grow it from from the original concept into you know what it has become and, and with the help of other directors, it's, you know, it's grown into something huge.

Gabe:

One thing that I'm especially proud of, on top of the fact that we've got this auction going on, is when Sean passed away in January, our tour was able to take the contest that we ran at our opening event along with, you know, donations to the family and what have you to raise? I think it was $2,200 to to donate to the family, on top of whatever else. We end up making this year Really proud of what we've done with that, but we can't do it without our players.

Tim:

You guys putting the word out and everybody sharing the message. Yeah, that's really good. Gabe, give me that website again, real quick.

Gabe:

It's www.32auctionscom. Forward slash GWAT V Foundation At the tin cup event that we've got going on the weekend that the auction closes we're also going to be doing a lot of raffles just other means for fundraising at that event. This is other than the regional. This is our prime event for raising as much money as we can at one particular event. So there's a real focus on fundraising at this particular event and all of our players buy in the guys that come in from other tours, particularly El Paso, because this is a dual tour event. We tend to have great weekends at this and looking forward to doing it again this year.

Gabe:

But yeah, I'm looking at the website now, gabe and, and there's some really good packages on there yeah, and that's the thing is, you know, the one thing that we try to use as a selling point is for guys to go on there and, and one first off, you might be able to find some local uh courses that have, you know, pretty significant discounted rates for, you know, a foursome or a twosome or whatever. But, man, there's a great opportunity for guys that are looking to put together a buddy trip. Um, there's, I mean everything, there's a, there's a bourbon tasting in kentucky, there's all kinds of golf resorts and stay in place. Like I said, it's, it's not, you know, sports memorabilia. Um, I think, if I'm not mistaken I'm not looking at it right now, but I think there's actually a signed uh jerry west, uh lakers jersey uh on the one and then you know it was in passing a couple of days ago.

Gabe:

That's probably going to go a little bit um. So, like I said, it's not just, you know, golf centric stuff, but uh, like I said, the more eyes we can put on it, ask anybody that. That, that, you know, gets the information to share with as many people as they can, so that we can again raise as much money as we can for the V Foundation.

Tim:

I'm looking at it. You've got an ACDC record Back in Black frame. I mean, I'd buy that there's a trip to Waikiki Beach. Man, man, yep.

Gabe:

I hate to admit it, but I'm a Bears fan and there's a signed Mike St Louis Terry jersey that I've got my eye on, Oof.

Chris:

Yeah, keep that to yourself.

Gabe:

Well, it's been that long since it's been worth being a Bears fan, so you've got to hold on to what you've got.

Tim:

Yeah, and the Bears keep making really good decisions.

Gabe:

Yeah, they do Excellent decisions, Absolutely.

Tim:

Oh boy. So what's your goal for this year? Do you have a goal?

Gabe:

So there's just that one number that's been in my head and we've gotten close a couple of years. I think we hit almost 8,000 one year, 7,700 another year. But I would love to get to $10,000 this year, um, you know, netted after everything is paid out for, you know, prizes that we do have to put in for and things like that. Um, but that's that's, that's my goal until I. I want to hit 10,000 a year and then we'll see what our next step from there is. But I think it's realistic this year especially. You know, last year was the first year that we kind of shared this nationally, and this year trying to do the same, now that guys have a little bit of a better understanding of what it is, how it works, I think it's reasonable, it's something that we can do and we're definitely going to push for it.

Tim:

Yeah, you should, I should, I mean again hop on the website. There's all kinds of really good stuff. I'm on page three now and, uh, jen's already took my credit card from me and we're away for two weeks. There's gonna be some negotiation on what I'm bidding for my goodness there's some cool things I know.

Chris:

One year I did an auction type thing where they sent me stuff to raffle off and or not raffle but auction off, and I think I ended up auctioning or buying two of the things that weren't sold. Because it's just some cool stuff sometimes that they have on there.

Gabe:

Well, Chris, just so you know, there's a couple of foursomes at a couple of California courses that me and Jason and Hop are going to reach out to you about. So we've got a couple of weekends planned in the off season.

Chris:

Let me know I've got some time before season starts Right.

Gabe:

Tim, absolutely.

Tim:

Can I?

Chris:

have some weekends off, you've got about four days.

Tim:

You can get two or three days. So what else is going on in Arizonarizona game?

Gabe:

oh, a lot of stuff is going on. So I, I, you know, we we've got our big regional in in uh, in labor on labor day, labor day weekend at tpc scottsdale uh, registration is coming up on that here, you know, closing pretty soon. Uh, we're trying to get final numbers in by the beginning of July, maybe the second week of July at the latest. But we expected I think it's five or six years now in a row that we've had the highest attendance for regionals at that event and we're shooting to try to match that again this year and I think we're looking at ending up somewhere in the 150 to 180 range for that event.

Gabe:

Like I said, we've got this Julyth and or 7th and 8th event I lost track. 6th and 7th event, uh, at chewback um, which is our dual tour event, um, we're getting ready to close registration on that. And then I know you mentioned the um, the regional, the july regional, uh, that you were talking about we, but we are also hosting a senior regional in Las Vegas on the same weekend, are you really? Yeah, well, we're at Bears-Bats on July 27th and 28th as well.

Tim:

Oh yeah, Bears-Bats, oh man.

Gabe:

So we're excited about that one. I know we've already got some guys coming from different places around the country and we're looking for it to just continue to grow that event every year. And right now we're looking for it to just continue to grow that event every year and right now we're off to a great start. So we've got about three or four weeks left for registration on that event as well.

Tim:

Yeah, wow, so so again, lots of good to them. It's all really nice.

Gabe:

Yeah, this is our, this is our busy season right now. This is where we really we really have a ton going on at the same time.

Chris:

Busy seasons and understatement.

Tim:

You know, especially right now it's it's really not that hot in arizona right now.

Gabe:

Oh no, no, no, it's time to go a little bit of a cooling trend right now. I think we're only at 108 right now so trend we are. We're going up to sedona, arizona, this weekend, though, so that's our event at Sedona. High temperatures are always supposed to be in the low 90s, so I think weekend the morning start we should be on. The course should be right around 70 degrees, so it'll be nice this week yeah, that's not bad.

Chris:

Not at all, that's like my, my beat the heat in Rio Doso. Yeah, we get out there to try to get away from the heat before it gets crazy in El Paso. Yep, yep.

Tim:

Hold on Gabe. Where in Arizona do you live?

Gabe:

I live in Mesa, arizona, okay, basically in the east part of the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Tim:

Right, but when you go down to so I've spent a good amount of time in that area, yep, but not really spent much time down in Tucson. They say Tucson is actually much cooler.

Gabe:

It tends to be about eight to 10 degrees, sometimes a little bit more cooler than that, and the one thing about the event that we got here in a few weeks down in Tubac is it just seems like for the last three or four years it's always good for a rainstorm while we're there. It always seems to rain at least one of the days that we're down there. Ironically, it never rains while we're playing, but it rains all around it. It rains at night.

Chris:

Stop, stop, stop, before Eugene says please stop.

Gabe:

That's right.

Chris:

We need the rain. I have had great weather for these regionals we went to.

Gabe:

I don't need to start this.

Tim:

Chris, it'll be 80 degrees, you know, 10% humidity, you'll be fine.

Chris:

Why do you think I keep?

Tim:

winning over there. Oh man, well, chris, I wish you the best of luck. Um, yeah, I I think eventually, you know the, the, the arizona players are gonna have your number on it oh there's.

Gabe:

There's a handful of guys waiting for him. So well, we'll talk after this event. I'll tim. I'll let you know how things turn out. Oh well, see, I dave I watch oh yeah he does.

Tim:

Sometimes I'll even text him mid-round oh yeah, feel free, we're gonna.

Gabe:

I'll be doing the same.

Chris:

Look listen listen listen I have earned the right to be able to talk about that event. Gabe knows I've had history there, but the Arizona guys do come and try to take it every year. I accept the challenge. I can't sheep away from it. I accept it.

Gabe:

Yeah, like I said, we got a handful of guys specifically looking for you.

Chris:

Name name them now, Gabe, just name them now.

Gabe:

It's been a topic of conversation, we'll just put it that way.

Chris:

Let me see, Let me guess Jason Hopp Jordan, now that he's moved up.

Gabe:

Oh, Jordan absolutely would like peace.

Chris:

Wigs, oh Jordan, absolutely would like peace. Wiggs is still in C flight. He's scared.

Gabe:

No Wiggs in B flight. Wiggs has been in B flight since the beginning of the year.

Chris:

I thought he went back down to C. No, no, no, he volunteered to move up. Yeah, I think he won a C flight here or there. I could have sworn. He's already won the C flight.

Gabe:

Early in the season, Right, right right. But he's been up and be for probably about three or four months now.

Chris:

Oh, and I'll allow it. Like I have a decision, I'll allow it. Okay, gotcha, I'm excited. You know what I'm excited? I tell Gabe all the time this is one of my favorite events to go to. It's just the atmosphere being on the resort. Yeah, I mean being on the resort, yeah, I mean it's.

Chris:

It's one of my favorites every year and uh it's definitely a different vibe, for sure and I, I think with the um, the friendships we've made between arizona and el paso, being able to bring a couple guys up there and battle it out. And uh, yeah, there's rider cope talk, uh, trash talking throughout and, don't worry, the belt's coming with me yeah, I guarantee that the belt's coming with me.

Gabe:

You know it's fun, it's fun and it keeps bringing that excitement every year not I mean to go back to to how we started this conversation, though, but I think that the, the atmosphere and the, the vibe of this event, has a lot to do with the, the focus for that weekend, which is the fundraising at this particular event, because it's it's the most laid back environment, laid back but very competitive, because, you know, during the event they're back and forth going on and everybody wants to do their best and take this guy down or that guy down, but the vibe of what we're trying to do over this particular weekend, everybody buys in and it really is such. It's a great environment, one that I haven't seen at any other event that we do or any other place that I've been. It's a very unique vibe and a very unique environment for this particular tournament.

Tim:

Yeah, definitely, and that's actually a good thing, you know, with everybody coming together. You know, because, like you said, and a number have said all along, there's nobody that hasn't been touched by cancer. I don't care who you are, and so to get a bunch of guys and girls together, to come together for this and raise some money to hopefully find a cure for this deadly disease. It's good to hear what you're saying.

Gabe:

Yep absolutely.

Chris:

Yeah, and, like you said, it's going to be something different this year, a little bit special, right. I mean I think we all felt it at your kickoff. I was luckily able to go, but I think this one and being able to kind of have more El Paso guys go up there and be able to be a part of it, because everybody knows everybody yeah, If you remember, we lost Sean the day before our kickoff event, so you know we were expecting to see him out there.

Gabe:

You know he was wanting to get out there just to say hello, and Hector Lata and I were able to see him on Tuesday before us. On what we're trying to do with the fundraising that we do, and it's an honor to raise money and to donate in his name, for sure.

Chris:

Definitely, I can't wait.

Gabe:

Yeah, absolutely.

Tim:

Well, I hope everybody logs on and bids on something and walks away with a good prize, a good package, whatever it is you choose to bid on. And, by the way, that Jerry West jersey, I think, is only going for like $400 right now.

Chris:

Yeah, yeah, it's up there.

Gabe:

Yeah, If I could just one more time with the website. It's www.32auctionscom. Forward slash G WOD V foundation and if anybody has any questions about the auction or wants more information, they can email me directly at Gabe at amateur golf tournet.

Tim:

Yeah and Gabe, I'll put all this stuff in the show notes as well.

Gabe:

Absolutely Appreciate it.

Tim:

Sure thing. So so again, thanks so much for all that you do. I appreciate it. It's good seeing you. Great seeing you guys, and we'll talk to you soon.

Gabe:

All right. Thanks for having me Good night.

Tim:

Have a good one, bud. Take care, chris again. You know with Gabe. He always does a really good job with his fundraiser and hopefully we can get him up to that $10,000 mark. It's kind of funny, dollar mark, it's. It's kind of funny. You know, after we had this and uh, the things were posted on facebook, chen said oh, there's some really good packages on here.

Chris:

Um, too bad, you don't have your credit card we won't say why you lost your credit card, but, yeah, he's always gotten some great packages on there, um, and I don't think he'll have a problem getting up there to where he wants to be, and he does a great job of announcing it, getting it out there and, you know, people buying into it, so it's just one of those things that we just need to kind of wait for him to. You know, get the orders in and go from there.

Tim:

Yeah, but again, I'm sure it's going to be great. But, as you know, we've got the region at Fripp Island. I'm going to go this weekend and interview the winners, so why don't I do that? And I'll talk to you next week? Yeah, definitely, all right, bud, we're here at the Low Country Regional in Fripp Island at the Ocean Creek course with the Champ Flight winner, wes Strader from the Eastern North Carolina Tour. Wes, congratulations on the win, thank you. So yesterday you shot three under 68. Tell me about the round.

Speaker 5:

Just played the par fives really well, birdied all of them and had a couple three putts, but other than that rolled in a couple on a hot streak on the back nine, 10, 11, 12. So that was about it, Just didn't really make a lot of mistakes. How was the course plan yesterday? It was great. It's a beautiful course. It doesn't really set up for me. It's a. It's a little short and tight, A lot of placement shots, but the greens are difficult to read. But they rolled really good and the course is just phenomenal.

Tim:

Yeah, so you were the leader after round one had some rain last night and some rain this morning. How did the course play today? Any different than yesterday?

Speaker 5:

No, not really the rain didn't do anything, it's just the wind picked up a little bit this afternoon so it was a little more windy finishing the bag nine today than it was yesterday.

Tim:

And so you were 200 today and kind of up and down round. You did have an eagle, which we'll talk about in just a minute, but what was your thought process?

Speaker 5:

Because you were pretty much in the lead all 36 holes. Yeah, I mean I came out today and birdied the first hole and then just aimed at the center of the green all day Played smart off the tee trying to hit the center of the green. I didn't make two doubles but I hit a tee shot to OB. But other than that didn't really make a mistake at all today, just fairway green two putt, except for the couple holes where I rolled on a birdie or an eagle.

Tim:

Yeah, so you get to 16 and you got an eagle.

Speaker 5:

Walk us through that hole. Oh, it's the longest par five out here. Fairway's super tight. Just hit a little trap, draw down the right-hand side back to the middle, Right into my second shot. I actually looked at the scoreboard for the first time, so I had no idea where I stood and saw that I had like a seven-shot lead. So I said, well, I'm going to go for it. If I hit it in the water then I can get up and down for par or bogey at worst and still have plenty of wiggle room. So I'm going to try and make a skin here and 243 into the win.

Tim:

hit a three iron to less than a foot, so that Eagle is going to net you a little over $1,000 as the only super skin today. With all the winners, you get free entry into the national championship. So you really made it out this week.

Speaker 5:

Oh yeah, that was one of the goals of playing this one. I mean I love coming down here to South Carolina hilling the head for a pile in even Myrtle Beach. It's great playing golf down here, but this was a regional. I wanted to come down here and win and get that free entry to nationals and the skin money doesn't hurt, no, it does not, what would you tell anybody who didn't come about coming here next?

Speaker 5:

year. Oh, you've got to. It's absolutely beautiful down here. It's hot, it's muggy, but I mean it's sunny skies today, after that little bit of rain shower that came through the beach, the wildlife, the course is phenomenal. I mean you got to come down here and play, thanks.

Tim:

Wes Congratulations and we look forward to seeing you in October. Thank you, sir, I'll see you there. All right, we've got the A-flight winner, George Lapine from the Hilton Head Savannah Tour. George, congratulations on the win. I appreciate that, sir. So yesterday you shot 77, one stroke off the lead. Tell me about your round yesterday.

Speaker 10:

Yesterday was easy boring golf, down the middle, off the tee, and one birdie. I missed a bunch of putts. I mean I missed a bunch of birdies inside 10 feet. Just real boring golf. No doubles, no triples. Today, on the other hand, I made a double right out of the gate and it was on. I also made two triple bogeys, but I just didn't really make any bogeys, I just was. I made a ton of pars and a clutch, a clutch couple birdies when I needed to and squeaked it out one shot but a 77-80, you would think that those rounds were relatively similar, but you're saying it was really up and down today.

Speaker 10:

I would tell it to golfers. I mean, yesterday was so boring and straightforward I was really all over it just not making as much putts as I could have. I mean, yesterday I could have shot 71. Today I had to really grind out there for no good reason. You know, amateur golfers, it's hard to put two good rounds together. Yeah, I'm happy to be here. Yeah, I really had to work for it, though today I wish I made it a little easier on myself.

Speaker 10:

Are you a scoreboard watcher or are you just play and find out the end? That's so funny. Normally I am. I didn't see a scoreboard today at all. I knew that it was getting close. The other guys in my group were all leaders. They, I knew that it was getting close. The other guys in my group were all leaders. They were struggling. We were all kind of beating it everywhere. And then I made a really clutch birdie with like three holes to play. The other guys made bogeys and I knew I was right up there. And then my 17th hole. I think it was the second hole. I 115 yards out and I just I mean cross wind water both sides of the green and I hit it into the hazard From 115 yards. I'm like, oh, here we go, so I had to drop thinking, okay, I can get up and down from 43 yards. Nope, ended up making a double bogey. One hole to play. I made a good two-putt par and closed it out.

Tim:

You beat Bob Sheehan by one stroke from the Eastern North Carolina tour. He shot 77 81. So you were tied with him after yesterday and in the same group with him today. Was it really kind of back and forth?

Speaker 10:

All day long. Yeah, I mean, none of us really had our best stuff. Shout out to Bob. Bob's a great golfer, a great dude. We had a lot of fun out there today. You know there was a little bit of a leaderboard mess up on our 18th hole, on the eight. You know, on our 18th hole I congratulated Bob for his win. He had it by one shot. And then I started looking. I had me for 17 over an 82 for today. I didn't shoot at 82. I wasn't. I wasn't 17 over either, you know. So I went through my score and then the two guys that were keeping score today live scoring on the card. They, they had it wrong. And Bob, when I congratulated him, he said no, no, no, no, I think you won it. We got something wrong here. And it turns out, yeah, we did so. Great guy, bob Sheehan. Shout out to him.

Tim:

Well, that's good and that's always why you got to go through the hole by hole. Always go hole by hole. Well, George, congratulations.

Speaker 10:

And with this win, you know, you get a free entry into national championship in Hilton Head in October, right in your backyard. It's free, yep, all right, so I don't have to pay for it now. I'll be there, baby, all right.

Tim:

So congratulations and good luck. The rest of the way, my pleasure, sir.

Speaker 9:

Thank you so much All right, we're here with the B-Flight winner, kevin Bryars from the Tidewater Tour. Kevin, congratulations, hey. Thank you very much. I appreciate that. Well, you had a really good weekend.

Tim:

83-83,. Leader after the first round. Leader after the second round with a six-stroke win.

Speaker 9:

Tell me about your round yesterday. Yesterday was awesome. My playing partners were so cool. We had a good time. The greens were a little tricky at first. We had to figure them out, but after that we were all doing pretty good. Is this your first time playing here? Uh, no, we played last year. Yeah, so this is my second time. So what brought you back?

Tim:

because I was going to say what would you tell somebody who didn't come why they?

Speaker 9:

need to come here next year. Um, I I love fret by this. This is such a fun tournament. The course is awesome. I love it, uh, and I'm going to try to play it every year. Everything about it is awesome. Did the rain last night and this morning have any effect on the course today? If it did, I didn't. I couldn't tell. No, I don't think it did at all.

Tim:

Well, I know it was pretty warm here today.

Speaker 9:

So walk me through the round today. Well, I had a one-stroke lead going into it and the first thing I do on the first hole was triple bogey. I, I, uh, I pulled my drive over into the to the houses and then uh just couldn't recover from there. And then uh, so I was thinking to myself, no way is this gonna happen. And then I settled in for a couple of pars after that. But when I made to turn, uh, to go to number 10, I, I still struggled some, struggled on the back nine with the drive today, but finally got that worked out and it started working better for me when I made the turn to come back to number one. So I had to finish up the last six holes on the front nine and I think I played those six holes one over.

Tim:

That's really pretty good to finish out six holes one under or, excuse me, one over. That's really pretty good, you know, to finish out, you know six holes one over. You're from tidewater tour. You guys brought a good handful of guys down here oh, we do.

Speaker 9:

Yeah, last year we had a bunch of us down here. This year we have a bunch. I think we have about five or six, I'm not sure on the number, uh, but the tidewater tour is so awesome, uh, I love them. Uh, they're great, great bunch, bunch of golfers up there, and I got nothing bad to say about any of them.

Tim:

Yeah, lyle does a really good job. You guys are taking a bunch of guys up to the Midwest Regional July 1st and 2nd at Big Cedar Lodge too.

Speaker 9:

Yes, a big group is going up there to that and I was in that group. Unfortunately, work got in the way and they said, no, we need you here, so I had to cancel that. So I put Scottsdale, arizona, on the calendar, so we got a group of us going out there for Scottsdale, so that's going to be a lot of fun, I hope.

Tim:

First with the Big C Lodge. So this episode is going to come out on the first. So we can't really warn anybody. But if you're going out to the TBC Scottsdale you're going to love it out there. The course is out there. Great Gabe Garcia from the Arizona Tour does a great job of that regional.

Speaker 9:

Take as many as you can and enjoy it out there. Well, thank you very much. I know we have a big group that is going out there, not just to all stand with me and my wife from the Tidewater, but there's another whole other group going, so we're going to be representing Tidewater really good out there in Arizona.

Speaker 6:

That's awesome.

Tim:

Hey, Kevin. I don't know if you know this or not, but your win gets you free entry into the national championship, so congratulations on that as well.

Speaker 9:

Hey, thank you very much. I really appreciate it. This is such an awesome, awesome win. Uh, I've said it so many times, golf is hard. It is and it's hard to put two back your backgrounds together, you know. So I was very happy that I was able to do that today well again, congratulations, uh, kevin from tie water tour.

Tim:

six stroke victory over four people, tied at second place Wes Mahaffey from Charleston, tyler Burleson from Charlotte, chase Green from Hilton Head and Richard Davies from Hilton Head. But again, congratulations on the win and good luck the rest of the way.

Speaker 9:

Hey, thank you very much. I really do appreciate that.

Tim:

We're here with the sea flag winner from the Low Country Regional. It had tripped the Ocean Creek course and happy to say it's Will Palmer from the low country regional had tripped the ocean Creek course and happy to say it's a will Palmer from the Atlanta tour.

Speaker 8:

We'll congratulations and it's always good interview, uh, Atlanta player when it, when they win. Yeah, it's nice to win. You know, this is this is my first victory and it's nice that it comes out of regional too.

Tim:

This is your first victory ever. Oh, that that makes it even more special. You had one hell of a weekend.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, yeah, no, this weekend I really putted the lights out, so two of my best days putting ever and that really mattered for the most part Kept it in play.

Tim:

Like I said, two really good rounds 83-83. Let's start with yesterday's round. Tell me about it.

Speaker 8:

Yesterday's was a little up and down, I think I had I had one eagle and two birdies and three triples, so I was just kind of bouncing around all over the place. Um, and then coming out today, just wanted to be a little bit more consistent and and I was, I think I only had one triple today, so, but only two birdies would have been nice to have that eat well it's.

Tim:

It's funny. You know, generally when you get an Eagle, I mean that's that's going to pay a skin right, and for whatever reason, not only did it not win a super scan, it didn't even win a fight skin, because there are the two Eagles and the BC and D fight.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, yeah, I talked to the other guy that had a. Uh, he had an Eagle on number one so he put it in. He got on into part five, got on into and put it in for his Eagle. I I got a little bit luckier and I chipped in for about 60 yards for my Eagle. So you know, I guess he's a little bit more valid.

Tim:

but you still want some money. So one year, a little over $500 in cash games yesterday, which takes care of the weekend and of itself and takes care of the weekend in and of itself, and then today, another 83 today, and I know for a little while you and Bobby Jones, another Atlanta player, were going back and forth for a while.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, we were going back and forth. He just kind of I don't think he let off the gas, I think he had a little rib pull or something, something going a little twinge on him and he just wasn't keeping the ball quite as straight as he usually does. But you know, other than that, I just tried to keep it in play and and have a good day.

Tim:

Well, he did have a good day. I mean you, you, you lapped the field, you got. You get a six stroke win, like I said, over Bobby. He went 83, 89. And then the next closest was was Joseph Deese from Charleston, he went 89-86. So you beat third place by nine strokes.

Speaker 8:

I mean it's always nice to win by a wide margin. It makes it a little more comfortable coming in.

Tim:

Yeah, especially coming down the stretch, you got one or two holes left. I mean, you still got to be smart, but you can let off a little bit.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, yeah. So like that last hole but number 10, just hit a driver down the middle and then the green surrounded by water, water in the back water off the right side, and I aimed for the bunker and just came up short. And then chipping a putt.

Tim:

That's awesome. Congratulations, and if you didn't know, you know you win today. Get you free entry in the national championship in October. Get you some ragging rights with players in Atlanta. So your next tournament hopefully we'll see you at Bridge Mill next week. Make sure you bring the trophy and flaunt it to everybody.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, yeah, I can't wait to get back on the Atlanta tour and maybe win a couple of those too. I hope that you do.

Tim:

Real quick. One more question before you go. What would you tell anybody who did not come to this tournament about coming next year?

Speaker 8:

I mean, this tournament was fantastic. Um, the greens were in pits at. The whole course is in fantastic shape. And then all the guys out here play I played with, had a great time playing with all of them. You know, nobody was really down or anything like that, even if they weren't playing that great. And then one of the cool things that we did was play the same course twice, which was nice to kind of know where your misses were and have a little idea of where you could get around out here.

Tim:

That's awesome. Again, congratulations, take care of it and we'll see you soon. Thank you, appreciate it, tim. All right, we've got the D-flight winner from the low-country regional at the Ocean Creek course on Fripp Island, ted Deese, from Charleston, south Carolina, ted, congratulations, thank you, sir. So yesterday you shot 99. You were tied for hates. What was your plan?

Speaker 6:

going into today. Just give the credit to God. Give the course a little more respect and not be so aggressive.

Tim:

Well, you did. You shot 15 strokes better. So you're 99 yesterday, 84 today. What was the deal yesterday? What was?

Speaker 6:

going on yesterday. Yesterday I was too aggressive on my putts, I had a lot of three putts and today I was a little more. Respective of the greens.

Tim:

So how do you think the rain from last night and this morning really affected the course?

Speaker 6:

I don't think the rain affected it at all. It was the course in great shape.

Tim:

It looked like it and you know. Obviously 84 is a good score. That's the low score of the tournament for deflate. What would you tell people if they missed this tournament about coming back next?

Speaker 6:

year. Take your time, be patient, enjoy it, have fun Compared to regular Charleston courses how would this course rate for you? This ranks up there pretty high with them. This is a lot like what I'm used to playing on in the Charleston tour. What?

Tim:

would you say, the highlight of the weekend is Obviously winning, but what would you say? The other highlight would be?

Speaker 6:

Getting to play with different people around, hopefully make us some new friends and see them down the road. Well, I'm sure that you will.

Tim:

You know I went today. Get your free entry into the national championship We'll take congratulations and good luck.

Speaker 6:

The rest of the way, all right. Thank you, national championship. We'll take congratulations and good luck the rest of the way. All right, thank you, chris.

Tim:

I think one of the regionals we need to go to next year is is Fripp Island. The place is beautiful oh, my goodness, it was a little hot and steamy on Sunday but the the course is is in great shape this time of year. It's already booked up for next year and you know just listening and talking to some of the winners about the quality of the course and and you know how, actually how tough it was. Even even the champs like guy who, who I think he shot five under he said it's a it's a really tough course. It's it's short and tight. You really have to be able to pick your spots.

Chris:

Yeah, I mean the pictures look great. You know the scores were pretty high, which I was surprised about. But I mean, you know, like we've said, our options are open as to where we're going to have our events and can't wait to see what happens next.

Tim:

So why was it Fripp? Obviously, there's always some interesting characters there at the regional tournaments Hold on.

Chris:

there's interesting characters everywhere.

Tim:

Let's just put that out there first, yeah, there are, and we started. Dennis made the announcement about the shirt entries and a couple guys came up and talked to me and asked me how to do it. So I kind of sent them to the website and gave a little bit of direction to it and I met this guy. He's from the Columbus tour and he told me about a kind of an exclusive club that he belongs to in the Columbus area. So I figured it'd be great to bring him on and let him kind of tell everybody what it's about and how much fun it is. So let's welcome Mick Archer from the Columbus Tour. Mick, welcome bud.

Mick:

Hi guys, how are you?

Chris:

Doing great.

Tim:

Doing great. How are?

Chris:

yourself.

Tim:

Good thanks. So first, how'd you like Fripp Island?

Mick:

Fripp Island was beautiful. I was listening to what you guys were saying. There it was. It was very tight, very challenging. The greens were in excellent shape, but, um, you got to know your spots and, um, I don't know if it's true or not, but for some of the guys that are from Northern States or other States, you know you're playing the sea level.

Tim:

Yeah, especially about how hot and humid it was too.

Mick:

Oh it was. Yeah, it was brutal, I'm sorry, but good, Still, good fun.

Chris:

Hold on. Are you complaining about hot and humid there? Tim you give me.

Tim:

No, not one bit. I was very, I was nice and cool. I stayed all day inside. You know so. But I did tell Jen, you know, because it's back to summertime and we during the summer, down here we really have a standing order. You know where we keep a hat, a towel, sunscreen and bug spray in the car. Went out to Fripp Island and guess what was not in the car? A hat All of it yeah.

Tim:

So, but it was. I mean it was warm, I made, I made out all right, Stayed inside and did some work.

Chris:

Good.

Tim:

And at the end, at the end, you know, got some really good interviews with the winners and caught back up with Mick, and that's one of the reasons why we got Mick on here. Yeah, mick, and that's one of the reasons why we've got Mick on here. Yeah, mick, tell us about your club that you and your guys from Columbus have started Number one. It's genius, it's hilarious. But again, it's all in good fun. We're not making fun of people.

Mick:

It's all in good fun. Yeah, absolutely so. It started with myself, sean Farris and Phil Shaw from the Columbus Tour, and we play a lot of golf together at our home course at Irish Hills in Mount Vernon, ohio. So basically the idea started with somebody bought a souvenir at the clubhouse at New Albany Country Club and somebody suggested hey, I'm going to present this to the person that has the highest score. So it started at that and so basically, after the uh event of the new albany country club, the highest score got the glove and it was signed by all of our friends that played in it. Well, it then kind of escalated into the last couple of times.

Mick:

We bought flags from the golf course, and frit island was a good example.

Mick:

You know, we bought a flag.

Mick:

Not only did the people in our group sign it, but the people we played with and I know tim, you signed it for us yourself, and d mac from the we run the national tour signed it and we just said you know, this is what we do and you're right, we're not making fun of each other, but it's a great souvenir and the tag lines are usually something along the lines of better luck next year. So the idea is, you know, you've got a souvenir. You've got a piece of memorabilia that was signed by your friends and people that you golf with on the day at the event. So it's kind of snowballed into a bigger thing and more people are starting to get into it, and I heard some of the guys on Fripp Island saying this is great. We're going to start doing it amongst our group of friends and maybe in our tour. So hopefully we'll keep it going, maybe something you can share on your podcast in the future. There's a best trophy for the highest score prize or something along with your t-shirt entry, your shirt entry.

Mick:

So that's how it all started and it's a lot of fun and it's not making fun of each other, but it's it's, it's, it's, it's an incentive.

Chris:

put it that way I just think it's awesome. You know we talk about all these different things that each tour has. Um, that's special. I know, you know, for our rider cup, I started with these inflatable boxing gloves that me and gabe would put on. You know, right before we started the first round, which then evolved into actual boxing gloves that each team signs every year, so just things like that that you can have memories. Crazy that the highest score gets this, but I think that's kind of funny and I love the idea.

Mick:

I love the idea a lot so it's, it's, basically, it's a, it's a runner-up prize, if you like you call it so you're gonna go home with something yeah, exactly exactly. And uh, unfortunately I um I well deserve the frip island flag after going from tide 60th to uh tide six after day 120, and up in 30th place. So I I well earned the Fripp Island flag this week.

Tim:

Well, that's all right, I'll take a Fripp Island flag. I mean it's a great place. Maybe next year, you know, you come back and then you give that flag to somebody else because you've already held on to it for a year.

Mick:

Yeah, maybe we bring them a gift from Ohio. That'd be fine too. Maybe we bring my gifts from my heart.

Chris:

Yeah, you know, if, if I, if we go next year as one of our regionals, I want to be a part of this. Okay, but uh. I just hope I don't bring it home.

Tim:

Well the way. Well, you shot 77 yesterday, or or that home then yeah, you know, it was uh.

Chris:

It was uh. We'll talk about that later. It was, it was a crazy round, we'll talk about later so tell the story about the Lancaster Country Club one.

Tim:

I think it's a. It's a good story and a good memorabilia piece, even for somebody who shot the highest score yeah.

Mick:

So Lancaster Country Club. Um, we played that a few weeks ago on the Columbus Ohio tour and I went into the pro shop and I thought I'll buy, I buy the. It was my turn to buy the gift. So I bought a flag and and the lady in the store she says to me, she said oh, you want one of? You'd like to buy one of our flags? And I said I explained what it was all about and she said well, let me sign it. I'm the, I'm the director of golf here. I said, oh, nice to meet you. And we got talking and her name is Allie White and she had just won the Ohio regional qualifiers for the KPMG PGA Championship and while we was in Fripp Island she was actually playing at the KPMG PGA Championship. Unfortunately, she just missed the cup, but she signed our flag and so you know we've got a LPGA, uh, pro, um signature on our flag. So it was kind of fun.

Tim:

That's awesome. Who won that flag?

Mick:

Uh, it's right behind me on the wall. Of course, I've got two flags. Thanks for that Dang set. Thanks for that dang set him up honestly that was not. I didn't know no, I know that was good, but I only wanted by one shot, so but anyway, that was good, that was fun that's what this is about fun sharing stories. That's what life's all about it really is.

Tim:

And you know, I think this it's a great camaraderie builder and you know, like you said, he starts off with three of you and hopefully it grows into more people in the tour and again, maybe this is an idea that other tours can pick up too. I do think I'm going to suggest that to some of our guys. You know we've got Torn coming up this weekend. I think it's a great idea.

Mick:

Yeah, and I think the flags are a good idea. You know, the flags are good because it gives you plenty of room to get more autographs on that as well, and obviously it's normally got the logo or et cetera from the course you played.

Chris:

Yeah, I've been collecting a lot of flags from either big courses I play or the regionals that I play. If they have a flag available, I'll take one of those. So I do understand it, but those flags that you got are a little special.

Mick:

Yeah, they got stories behind it that's it, that's what it is, that's the beauty of it. So, with every everybody.

Chris:

That's what it is, that's the beauty of it, with everybody that's involved in your little competition. Are they all on the same flight? Are they all different flights? How do you guys determine that?

Mick:

Actually we were all in the same flight. That's how it started. And there's also a prize we'll call it for whoever ends up with the most points in the flight at the end of the season before the national. But that's a cash side bet. We'll call it Not bad. So there is a positive prize for getting the most points in the tour as well as the loser flag, if you like.

Tim:

You've got a great personality and you like to have fun, and you showed me a couple of videos while we were there that you did when Scotty Scheffler was detained. How were they received by your friends up in Columbus?

Mick:

Well, so it started off. I mean, um, it started off um a year or two years ago. Um, there was 12 of us went on a golf trip down the hilton head for seven days and you know, we golfed 36 a day and then, you know, you're back at your house.

Mick:

After then we started watching videos and somebody's a fun trip and somebody started watching Club Pro Guy videos right Now I don't know if you guys follow him on YouTube so it started off watching Club Pro Guy videos and then I purchased a Club Pro Guy shirt and at one of our events, at our local course, I had the bead counters. I dressed like him but I introduced myself as Club Pro Guy Senior from across the pond because I'm originally from England. So then somebody said you should make a video, mick, and it just so happened. It was right after the Scotty Scheffler incident. So I set up a little table and I did it just like he would do it, but basically my references were to the fact that the Louisville Police Department had done more to harm the PGA Tour than Live Golf ever could. Was how I started off.

Mick:

And then it just kind of went from there and basically, you know, felony for somebody attaching themselves to a car. And you know they kind of went from there and I think it was, you know, defending Scotty Scheffler and basically suggesting that the PGA should pick up his legal fees because of all the extra TV ratings that the PGA Tour got that weekend because of Scotty Scheffler. And then I said you know, know, he's even a nice guy. I mean, he's even friends with patrick cantlay, because I know patrick gets a little bit of a hard time sometimes from who his friends are. So it kind of snowballed from there. But, um, yeah, so it's. It was. It's how it started. It was a bit of a joke and my friends love it and I I I haven't sort of shared it across social media or anything like that, but our friends and that it's. It's good. I'm a, I have that ability with my friends and other people I meet. You know I I like to. I like to have a good time, like to make friends and like to share experiences.

Tim:

So that's what this is all about. Anyway, though, isn't it? I mean, yeah, it's golf and competition, but it's, but it's about the, the friendships and camaraderie, and and all, all, it's all in good fun exactly what's next for you? I you know I'm looking at the Columbus schedule um Rattlesnake Ridge.

Mick:

In a couple weeks you're gonna be there yep, uh, planning to play at rattlesnake ridge, um, hoping to do better, hoping to uh sign a flag and not receive one this week. But we'll see how that goes. But I've uh, I've not actually played rattlesnake ridge, um, some of my friends have and I know it's going to be a challenging course, but looking forward to it well, this chris, I'm just picking this off my head here.

Tim:

Mick, when you, when you go to the podcast website, there's a button there that says you can leave us a message.

Mick:

Okay.

Tim:

After every tournament, would you mind just kind of leaving us a message and telling us who the who, the winner was?

Mick:

Yeah, absolutely Can. I post pictures or a little video if you like.

Tim:

Well, what you do is just shoot me a message and I'll follow up with you. And absolutely, I mean we can post pictures. Like, I'm going to post a picture of the flag that you sent me. You know that we have that, you know for this, just to kind of give our listeners kind of a rundown so it doesn't sound like oh, I wonder what's going on with Mick, I wonder what, I wonder, I wonder how many flags? Yeah, absolutely.

Mick:

Absolutely Be willing to share that. And, um, I can't remember the date. I think in August is our Ohio regional events coming up at Cumberland trails, so I'll definitely, I'll definitely put pretty much all of the events on the Columbus tour this year. So, happy to share, send a message, keep the fans posted on how mix uh mix seems doing, and we've also got a couple of people that are still interested in joining the tour. So I think the group is going to grow, that's awesome, that's awesome.

Mick:

And I will also share it with the when we go to rattlesnake Ridge. I'll share it with the guys on the columbus tour. I don't know how many of them listen to your uh podcast, but I'll make sure to get the word out say, hey, start listening to this. We're we're getting involved here and we're supporting the podcast from the columbus tour that'd be, that'd be great.

Tim:

I I really do appreciate that. I know butch does does a great job. He's he's really busy and yeah, I've tried to get him on here a couple times. He just says, no, he's not a podcast guy, but but maybe, maybe this could be the thing that pushes it over the edge I will definitely reach out and I will talk to him when I see him next and let him and share with him awesome, awesome. Make make sure you submit your shirt to facebook oh, he did.

Mick:

I actually did it today, I think, all right, great yeah, I was taking a look, he's.

Tim:

He's on there, that's for sure, he's in your shirt to Facebook. Oh, he did, I actually did it today, I think. Alright, great, yeah, I was taking a look.

Chris:

He's on there, that's for sure.

Tim:

He's in hey, chris, and that does remind me that, billy, he doesn't have a solo shot in his, so he's got to submit a solo shot for his shirt in June.

Chris:

Okay.

Tim:

Well, thank you so much for taking some time with us today. I really do appreciate it. Obviously, we'll be in touch and we'll talk soon.

Mick:

Yeah, look forward to it. Thanks again for reaching out Again. Fripp Island is a beautiful place, a lot of nice people and the staff there were really nice to the guys on the tour. So thanks to everyone involved at Fripp Island and I'll keep you posted on the next event here in Columbus.

Tim:

Thanks, guys All right bud Take care Nice meeting you.

Chris:

You too, tim. I don't know about you, but I love hearing these stories of what other tours, or just groups within tours, have on the side. You know, we come out and we play tournaments and there's kind of the same structure where it goes every tour as far as the tournament is concerned. But these side bets that people have are just hilarious in my opinion.

Tim:

I can barely contain myself with this one. It's hilarious, it's funny, but again, like you said, it's all in good fun. This guy was my witness, chris, I mean because you were on the call before we came live. I had no idea that he won that flag.

Chris:

The Lancaster Country Club you just knew about it.

Tim:

You didn't realize he won it right, because you know he told us a story about it and my god, that was funny, that was funny that, yeah, it's, it was a great time.

Chris:

But uh, you know, if we do pick that one, I would love to be a part of it, but I don't want to take that flag home because it's just. I wouldn't hear the end of it from you if I won that flag.

Tim:

No, no, no, no, no, no. I wouldn't give you too hard of a time.

Chris:

You might not, but all our listeners would. They would, and that's okay.

Tim:

And they did this on their own. They found they found a good way to to have fun with each other, build camaraderie, and how look how quickly it's actually growing. I mean I think they've only done like four times. Right, I was only four times. They've done it, you know. So you know, it just shows you the, the, the power of what we're doing and how it brings, you know, our members together.

Chris:

Yeah, it just it continues to get bigger and I'm pretty sure, once you know our podcast airs, or they start talking about it more and more, that that whole flight might be involved at one point. Oh, I'm sure that that whole flight might be involved at one point.

Tim:

Oh, I'm sure We'll get him to give us updates as they're going along and so that all our listeners can hear who wins the most prizes over the course of the year. At least you're going to walk away with some.

Chris:

Right right, what you do with it is up to you, but it's something to to be proud of, especially the fact that everybody signs it. You could just buy a flag and just give it to them, but the fact that they sign it and give you know well wishes towards their next tournament that's great.

Tim:

Let's talk about you for a second here. Oh god, here we go um you had was your best round or second best round ever uh, it was pretty close, yeah, it was honestly so.

Chris:

Okay, so let me break it down. We had an event at, uh, what I would consider my home course. Um, but it was. It was more of an emotional event because we made it a memorial event towards the gentleman that we lost in winter to cancer, who was the father of my assistant. So I wanted to do something special. You know, when we found out he passed away, immediately in my mind and I had a couple of members actually message me saying we need to make a tournament after him, this and that. So you know, wanting to win, it was a little bit, it was more in my mind than anything. Um, first nine and I started on one. So first nine was kind of up and down, uh, but I was still in contention. Then I go on to 10, which is a short par 3. I mean, I'm talking I think it was 104 yards, and I shanked it left and took a double and I was like, well, here we go and I proceeded the next eight holes to go. Seven pars and one birdie, wow yeah.

Tim:

That's pretty good.

Chris:

You know, after the end of the round, people would ask you know how'd you do, how'd you do? And honestly, I felt like I wasn't striking the ball very well, um, but I had some great chips to get me close for tap in pars, um, and I mean, that's just, that's basically what it was, or two putts for pars.

Chris:

So uh kind of paid off. You know, on 18 it's a par 5 downhill but there's a lake that's reachable and then the green like curves around into the lake and when I looked on after I hit my t-shirt I looked and I had a four-stroke lead, so I was kind of comfortable with it. But you know, beef anything could happen if I go, if if I go for the green and I and I get in the water and I triple and this guy birdies and we're going to a playoff. So I kind of just played that smart. But it seems like when I play smart golf I tend to top the next shot trying to play smart. And that happened for sure. And luckily I didn't roll in the water and got out there with a par and it felt good. You know we've talked about this before. I felt like I'm big and close to a win.

Chris:

This one was a little more special and such a great time. You know everybody had a great time. The roars of me moving up were louder than ever and I'm like, guys, this is my first win of the year, give me a second. Here. We had two guys that went three in a row. You barely whispered for them. But game's getting there and you know, we talked to Gabe at the beginning of this episode and he was saying that B-Flight was was looking to looking for me at 2BOK and I'm coming in with a lot of confidence, so it's going to be great well, you got your your index down to 9.8.

Chris:

It's pretty good yeah, everyone down to 9.8. It's pretty good. Yeah, everyone was saying I was going to be like a 7. And I'm like no, there's no way I'm dropping three strokes with a 77.

Tim:

Let's relax you got to understand how it works. It's not necessarily how it works Right right, right.

Chris:

But you know I've made a personal goal. I think I'm getting better, and I think I'm getting better, and that's the goal for this tour is to get better, and we'll see how the season ends and how Nationals does.

Tim:

And maybe it'll just be a voluntary move up so I can just keep pushing myself to get better and better every year.

Chris:

You got a little over 700 point lead in the points race. Yeah, and they're all mad about that because I did do two regionals, but I mean they had the option to join me if they wanted to and nobody wanted to join me, I put it out there. I understand.

Tim:

And you got one more regional coming up.

Chris:

Right, but that one I don't think I'll get points for it, because I did Vegas, so I have Vegas, and then the two that we went to oh, that's right, that's right.

Tim:

You did do your three there, you go.

Chris:

But at Scottsdale, you know the goal is to win that one, so I can not have to worry about Nationals paying for I've been close. I've been close twice, you know, right there. Second and third right there. And I've played very well at TPC the years that I was able to play, so we'll see what happens. I'm excited.

Tim:

Okay, and then you got your Tupac Tupac.

Chris:

My Tupac Shakur. How do you say it? It's T-U-B-A-C. So Tupac, tupac.

Tim:

Yeah, that's coming up this coming weekend.

Chris:

Right, that's coming up this coming weekend. Okay, this trip is fun because I take the whole family. My youngest thinks we planned this trip around his birthday and it's the other way around, but we're going to let him think that until he figures it out.

Tim:

But no, I mean honestly, if you, you only have to give him like a couple more years and he'll have it till he'll figure it out.

Chris:

I will see, we'll see. I'm not. I'm not holding my breath, but it's literally an hour South of Tucson, but it's a little town where, if you blink, you'll miss it.

Chris:

And the cell-service there I don't care what company you have is limited. So it's just nice and peaceful and quiet. You know it's far away from the highway, that you're not. You don't hear the cars coming back and forth. The resort's just, it's like little casitas everywhere, little houses. They have a restaurant, a spa, uh, cow pasture, and then there are three nine-hole courses.

Chris:

So it's fun. You know, when, once the sun starts going down and you and you're near a one of the greens on the course, you just I just take, you know, a couple balls and my, my wedge and just chip onto the green and have my son go chase it and we take our dog. And it's a good time. It's just a good time to just get away and not have to worry about anything and, you know, play some golf and go to the pool with them in the afternoon and just have a great time. And what's cool about it is you're walking around and you're seeing everybody that's in the tournament, that's staying on property. That's awesome. Or some of you will have a. They'll be in the patio and offer you a beer, and it's cool time.

Tim:

Good, and how far drive is that for you Like three hours?

Chris:

Four or five.

Tim:

Wow, it's that far Not terrible.

Chris:

That's okay. From where I'm at, four or five is great compared to eight, to get to stay in Texas and only be halfway through no, I understand, I.

Tim:

I just I just try and remember, you know, the the times that that I've driven, you know, through el paso, right up through tucson, um, I don't know, just it. I guess it takes so long and and my mind, just my mind, just tells me that it doesn't take that long, just because it.

Chris:

You're enjoying the open road.

Tim:

Yeah, yeah, it all kind of looks the same.

Chris:

It does. That's awesome, it does. And I think I've gone out there so much that I kind of know where my stops are for gas and my stops are for the restroom, and it's like all right, guys, do we need to stop here or not? Because if we don't, or you stop here or not. Um, because if we don't, or or we're stopping because this is it and right, you know, right, right, right. I need to stretch my legs and this is your last chance for another hour and a half exactly, exactly so it's it's a good time, but, uh, I have a lot of confidence and we'll see what happens.

Chris:

I, I can't wait to to see all these arizona guys, because you know that we've talked about it numerous times this tour brings friendships that, um, we probably wouldn't would have never had without it. I said it at, uh, my tournament that you know we've met people that we probably would have never met but still be on the same golf course, um, that have become friends, that have become like family and uh, um, us directors are here for any member that that needs to talk about anything. Um, because we, we take this as not just a job but like a passion, right, absolutely. And uh, you know when, when you lose a member, it, it, it hurts, and whatever we're able to do to help uh is great, and we raised I think it was close to 300300 for the V Foundation that day on the 50-50 raffle in memory of Craig. So I think we're gonna moving forward.

Tim:

We're gonna keep it the same the memorial for him, but also make that like our big push for the V Foundation moving forward that'd be great Because then again, then your next tournament turns over right into Gabe's and that's a good transition and to really raise a lot of money.

Chris:

Right, right, and that's the whole. Goal is to be able to do something like that, and Gabe's been an inspiration to me to keep trying, and the amount of money this guy raises is just incredible. So the more we can do and the fact that it's hit home more than once kind of it's given me the encouragement to start having these type of events. Yeah, but enough about me.

Tim:

I mean, I got the monkey off my back and, uh, now you got the rest of the season to go well, you did good, you did good and and then, like I said, this weekend, you got to go up and and compete players. Who's boss?

Chris:

yeah, they know who's coming. They know that's why they're asking for me, because they know what's happening. They're probably asking if I'm still going to show up or not.

Tim:

They know you're coming. Yep, by the time this comes out it'll be July, july 1st, so get your shirts in for July and we'll get posted the June entries here as soon as we can. I know for sure we've got what is it? Three or four entries right now, three.

Chris:

Three or four. I mean it's up there. It's going to be one of our busier months, which is awesome. And you know you mentioned earlier in the last episode which kind of shocked me, but I didn't want to interrupt our flow. And you know you mentioned earlier in the last episode which kind of shocked me, but I didn't want to interrupt our flow. But you said that Mr McCormick mentioned our shirt contest in his announcements. He did. He did at Fripp Island. That's awesome. I wish I was there to root him on because you weren't there at the Cajun Classic second day.

Chris:

But Gina had me get on the mic and explain it to everybody and I basically said all right, who wants $600 for free? Everybody raised their hand and said, okay, if you have a shirt, I don't care what it looks like, enter it into a shirt contest. Has anybody heard of it? Keep your hand up. And everybody put their hand down. So I had to explain it to them and unfortunately nobody came and asked me for help. But I mean it's extra money, I mean it's free money we're giving away here.

Tim:

Right and remember if the winner comes from either the American Dunes Regional or the Cajun Classic Regional, I'm paying their skins money for that weekend. Yep. So you know, and, like I said, I know we've got a couple entries, for American Dunes for sure, but as we're moving forward, chris, we only have July and August left, so you only have two opportunities left.

Chris:

Wow, that's crazy to think of it that way.

Speaker 10:

Yeah.

Tim:

That's wild honestly, so get your entries in. We've got the regionals that are left. Three regionals in July alone right.

Chris:

Yeah, well one would have passed, or one's actually happening now as this episode posted.

Tim:

Yeah, that's the big Cedar Lodge, one Midwest regional, and good luck to those players. We've got one one coming up this weekend, the Independence Day regional at Grand Dunes and Myrtle Beach, and then we got the the the one, chris, this is the one for me that if if you haven't been to regional yet, you have to get to this one. It's the Georgia regional at Sea Island, because this is the last year that we're coming going to that course yeah, they do a pj event there.

Tim:

A number of pj pros live on sea island and and are members of these courses. So it's you know you're getting, you know you're getting quality. It's right on the ocean. It's beautiful. Chris is beautiful.

Chris:

There really is yeah, I mean, the pictures on the website just look amazing. Uh, it looks like a fun course. All these regionals that we select. You know it's not just, uh, your local muni that that we pick, like, we pick top courses for any of these regionals to play, so, um, it's going to be a top-notch one. If you definitely haven't picked one and you're in the area, definitely think about this one. Two great courses, and I mean, just looking at it, he's giving away so much for a raffle that it's ridiculous, for just $10 a ticket, have what is a thousand seven hundred dollars worth of items that he's raffling off and plus, you get to play these beautiful courses at a rate that you wouldn't be able to play if you just showed up right, right.

Tim:

To me it's a no-brainer. Get out there. Um, you know ryan duffy and the meridian putters will be thereer. Get out there. You know Ryan Duffy and Meridian Putters will be there all weekend as well. You know, actually, we probably need to touch base with them. We haven't talked to them in a while right you gotta get out there yeah it.

Chris:

I mean, because after that, after that one's done, then you have two in August and the last two the first weekend of September, and that's it, that's it. And at that point, if you don't, if you haven't submitted a shirt, we're, you and me, are going to have our episode to build the bracket and we're going to have, we're going to start voting. You know that's going to be it. Then we're going to have our first winner. How? About that I can't believe it. It's gone so fast it.

Tim:

It really has. So. So get your shirts in um, get registered for sea island as as quickly as you can. And uh, again we're. We're coming up on the on the on the busy part of the season right here in the middle of the summer. So get out there and play tournaments all the way around.

Chris:

Yep, and on the shirt thing if you're nervous about taking your group photo, which is required, you know we can't. We've got to be fair with everybody. If we're required for one, we're required for all. Take that picture before you guys hit your first tee shot, so you don't have to worry about how the rounds go. And if you know someone leaves real quick or whatnot, um, have somebody you know, take the picture for you and uh, and then you guys have a good time while you're playing your round absolutely, man, because I'm I'm looking at uh, this weekend coming up.

Tim:

You know we got the july 4th weekend coming up. There's a, there's torrents all over the place. You got the Big Cedar Lodge, which again is now. You got the Independence Day Regional in Myrtle Beach at Grand Dunes. Cleveland's got a tournament, vegas has a tournament, cincinnati's got a tournament, milwaukee's got a tournament. You guys are going to be up in Arizona, kentucky, orlando, dallas, kansas, minneapolis, new York, upstate All have tournaments on the 6th and 7th of July. So that's all over the place and that's just the golf week side, on the senior side. So Eastern's got a tournament on the third, coastal Georgia's on the sixth, louisiana, nashville, indianapolis on the sixth, jacksonville, michigan, kentucky on the seventh. So it doesn't matter whether you're on the golf week side or the senior side, there's tournaments all over the place. Get out there and play. Play some golf this holiday weekend.

Chris:

Yeah, play some golf, have some fun, you know, enjoy yourselves out there. That's the main thing is have some fun, I know, at the tournament golf. But you get to meet a lot of people that you probably will never meet. You know you may have a new member in there that you don't even know about and they're going to determine how much they love the tour on that event. So, have a good time. It seems to make golf a whole lot easier when you're having a good time. It does.

Tim:

All right, man, good luck this weekend. Wish you the best, appreciate it. I don't have to worry about you announcing for the shirt contest. You know I will be as well.

Chris:

Oh, yeah, I'm going to see if Gabe can add that into his email, because if we don't have, my goal is to get at least three to five entries in. That'd be awesome For this one event. And yeah, that'd be awesome for this one event. And yeah, maybe I'll put an incentive in there if one of those guys win. I think you go.

Tim:

I mean, you already did it for us, I might as well do it as well if, let's put it this way, if that's what it takes to get somebody to register or submit their shirt, you know alright, my friend, if that's what it takes to get somebody to register or submit their shirt, you know. All right, my friend, you enjoy yourself Best to the family. Enjoy the tournament and enjoy the. July 4th holiday and we'll talk to you next week.

Chris:

Yes, sir, you be safe out there. All right, no fireworks going crazy. I mean you can do them, just don't go crazy. We can't do going crazy. I mean you can do them, just don't go crazy. We can't do them here, but you can do them now.

Tim:

I let other people do them. I just sit on the beach and and watch, and watch, yeah oh, you get to sit on the beach, excuse me yeah, so where we sit on the beach, I mean you can see all the way down both sides of the beach. You can see the ones that are done on hilton head. You know we generally stay there until like 10 o'clock at night. Good time.

Chris:

Just hanging out on the beach. You know out of the God how long have I been going to nationals? Five plus years, maybe. Five plus. I've never been to the beach. It's because you got work to do Well recently. Yes, say, but even even when I was going just as a player, I never went Crazy, huh.

Chris:

Well you were there for a reason. Right, right, right. This next one, I'm bringing in a special guest, so I might have to go to the beach at least one day. I hope that you do. We'll figure it out my best. Again, be safe. We're just dragging it on now. All right, we'll talk to you soon. We'll talk to you soon, yep, Bye, bye you.
