Decoding the True Cost of Salvation: Embracing the Free Gift / S2E18
Have you ever been lured by the allure of a 'free' offer, only to find yourself questioning its genuineness? This episode peels back the layers of intrigue surrounding the concept of free salvation—a cornerstone of Christian faith that promises eternal life at no cost. We weave personal experiences with scriptural wisdom to uncover why, in a world where free often comes with fine print, salvation stands apart as a truly costless gift. Through my own journey and the timeless truth of Jesus' sacrifice, we explore the weighty transaction that paid our spiritual dues once and for all, challenging listeners to reconsider their own responses to the ultimate freebie.
As we navigate through the complexities of prayer and the longing for immediate answers, we stumble upon an astonishing realization: salvation is instant and unequivocally free. The series "The Chosen" serves as a poignant backdrop, reminding us of the profound yet simple promise of Romans 6:23. This conversation aims not just to enlighten but to invigorate your faith, planting the seeds for you to carry forward the message of salvation's simplicity and immediacy. Whether you're a skeptic or a believer, this episode promises a refreshing perspective on the timeless gift that is both the most accessible and the most profound.

Today we're going to talk about free stuff. We all like free stuff. You know we watch commercials or we go shopping and we see the Bogo buy one, get one, and if it says free afterwards we're really excited. We go grocery shopping and we look for salt free or sugar free or gluten free or caffeine free. But one of the best things is you go someplace where you can do something kind of fun and it's admission free or parking free. We go for all of that free stuff. You know if they say free, we're right there in line waiting on it, except when it says salvation's free.
Speaker 1:When it's salvation's free and we hear comments like I heard the other day from someone saying well, I can only hope that I did enough good and helped enough people along the way that God will let me into heaven, is that not a crazy question or a crazy statement? It's a crazy statement. You can't do enough good or help enough. People Forgot to let you into heaven because, like different places we go to, my grandson and granddaughter great grandson went to the airplane museum in Ohio and it's admission free. Well, guess what? There's another place that's admission free, much better than the airplane museum. It's called heaven and the admission is free. Your admission salvation, salvation's free.
Speaker 1:Salvation doesn't have to be work for, salvation Doesn't have to be fought for. I was talking to my son about this and I tried to do a little joke and I don't think he really thought it was funny and if you read my post on Facebook you know my son is my sounding board and my help through my podcast and thank you, I appreciate all that you do. But my joke was you don't have to be in a free for all for salvation, but salvation is free for all. I didn't think that was funny, but I thought it was clever so I left it in. But it's not. It's free.
Speaker 1:Why are we so excited over buy one, get one free. We're going to rush right out and give it. It's free. Salvation is free for us. It cost Jesus Christ his life, but he rose again and that's how we have salvation. We can't work for salvation. We can't do enough for salvation. We can't go to the right church for salvation. We can't hang around with the right people for salvation. There's one way, and that one way is to believe in Lord Jesus Christ to receive salvation.
Speaker 1:So can anyone explain to me why getting things free is so exciting, except when it has to do with salvation. And then you well, I don't know, I, you know, am I have to give up this? Am I have to give up that? Am I have to do this? You know what? I wouldn't get one free.
Speaker 1:You have to give up the money up for you to get the free one and salt free. That's probably good for you if you have a problem not always and all the other freeze. You still have to pay for the stuff you just don't get. I mean, if you get something that's salt free, you're going to pay more for it than if they put salt in it. So the salt free really cost you more. The same for sugar free, gluten free, caffeine free. That'll cost a little more. I do know that about caffeine free, because I cannot have caffeine and it seems like when I find something that is caffeine free it costs me more and then they quit making it.
Speaker 1:So let's get excited about salvation being free, as we do about free parking. Free parking, you're just going to be there for a little bit. Heaven lasts for eternity. Now I want to prove to you that it's free, and we're going to look at the scriptures for that. Verse two, eight to nine says For by grace, you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, least anyone should boast. If God made it works, then people could stand around. Well, I did this, I did that. I'm going to heaven. You didn't do half of the stuff I've done. Nobody did anything to make it to heaven. Christ died and rose again to pay the price for our admission.
Speaker 1:I heard a speaker and you know I can't think of his name, but he told a story about someone going to court and that salvation was like going to court. You went to court, you're guilty, you've got dozens of speeding tickets and they're going to charge you a whole bunch of money. And you go and the judge says well, your price has already been paid, somebody else paid it. You're free to go. You're still guilty, but you're free to go. That's what Christ did. He paid our fines. He took the stripes that we deserve. He took all of the sin upon him that we commit to make heaven free to us by believing in him.
Speaker 1:John 3.16 and 17. All of you know this John 3.16, some of you may know 17, that goes with it, but here it is John 3.16 through 17,. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn it, but that the world, through him, might be saved. Now one word in there says you have to do anything for that. Again, it's free. It is free. What better thing is free out there? There is nothing out there that some God tells you is free. That is better than eternity in heaven. Then salvation, then knowing that God falls you his child, that's beautiful.
Speaker 1:Romans 10.13 says, simple as that. Didn't say you had to do anything special, didn't say you had to do any works, didn't say you had to go out and help your neighbor. These things that we do, those are our works. But works don't get us into heaven. Works don't get us salvation. Works are something we do because we love the Lord and we know that's what he wants us to do. We want our fruits to show and that's where our works come in. But not one of those good deeds or those nice things that you've done, or the good things that you've said, or the money that you've given can get you to heaven, it's free. Get that in your mind, it's free. When that person said to me I hope I have done enough, you will never in your lifetime, whether you do a good deed every day continually for the rest of your life, cannot be enough to make it into heaven without the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 10 9-10 says if you confess with your mouth Lord Jesus Christ and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes into righteousness and the mouth confession is made into salvation. Once we believe in our hearts, our righteousness comes from that.
Speaker 1:You know, many times we pray God, we need this, or God heal us, or heal them, or do this or do that. Sometimes we have to wait for it. I always say there's three answers to every prayer that we make to God. Just know, in my time, in his time, I watched the series the chosen. If you haven't watched it, it's a really good series, you should try watching it. But they were talking in there and little James wanted to know why God had, or Jesus hadn't, healed him. When Jesus' final words to him is remember, you will be healed. We pray for healing. We don't get it this instant, we get a little upset, but you know we're all going to be healed in heaven. There is no pain, there is no sickness, there is no death, and that was really cool to me. He does answer our prayers, but the prayer he answers instantly, as soon as you ask it.
Speaker 1:You ask for salvation, you receive it Instant, the minute you ask it it's done. Isn't that great. I mean, a lot of times to get free stuff you have to mail in the coupon and then they'll send you the rebate and then you get the free stuff. Salvation is instant. As soon as we ask, we receive it. But the thing we should remember about not asking is in Romans 6-23, for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Eternal life, it's free. It's free. Don't beg for it, don't fight for it, don't do good deeds for it. Ask and you get it. How much simpler could God have made it for us to become His children? The next time you see an ad for something free in fact, let's change that free time you see an ad for something that's free, remember to tell someone salvation is free and it's a much better return on your investment. Trust in Him, ask for salvation. Receive it instantly. It's free.
