We Don't Need Permission to Honor Our Heritage
yo yo yo yo, peace, peace, peace, peace, family. We back, we back Freedman's Affairs Radio, the Freedman's Network. Let me turn this music down a little bit. Yeah, there it is, there it is. We back up in here, family, we back in here and right out of the gate.
Speaker 2:I want to apologize for last week. Uh didn't do a broadcast. Last week. We we was having some some difficult, some technical things going on with the host, uh, that we used to publish the, the, and we was having some issues with that, and then we finally got that straightened out. So I apologize for that, and some of you that listen, every week you wait for some new, fresh stuff to come out. Let me turn this down.
Speaker 2:And we weren't around. It wasn't that we wasn't around, it's just that sometimes things know, sometimes things happening, we have to take care of that and get to the bottom of it and see what's going on and that's what it was. But we here, we here on this glorious, fantastic, hot, hot, hot. June 24th 2025. We're here in New York City, brooklyn to be exact, dealing with a heat wave. It's early in the morning, so I'm trying to get it done. I'm not going to stay in here long and we're going to try to get in and get out of here, trying to get it done and not going to stay in here long, and we're going to try to get in and get out of here.
Speaker 2:And today's math is wisdom, culture, wisdom, culture. And that bonds equality, because we understand wisdom to be right, discernment, judgment. And culture is the sum of all human activity, of a particular group or just human beings in different parts of the world, different parts of the country. Culture it encompasses customs, language, food, cultural, music, dance. It gathers all those and put together in its culture. And we put wisdom on top of that. And that that equals equality, homeostasis, balance, harmony and the such right. So that's what, that's what the math is for today. On that note, family, on that note, I want to send a big salute, a big salute to a supporter of the of the program, and that is my man, rufus hayes. Salute to you, salute, son sir.
Speaker 2:I'm sorry, um, my man has retired and now he's kicked back, he's down in this beautiful state of Georgia, him and his lovely wife, and they live in life and going to enjoy his retirement. But salute to you, brother. Keep coming back, keep coming back, keep supporting us, because we depend on that. We depend on you and I am very humbled and grateful that you support the program and we're going to keep coming and trying to bring the best that we can to all of you. If you didn't want to be in here, I know you got told. If you didn't want to shake that thing, hit me with the beat.
Speaker 2:Hey, because it makes me sing. I know you got told hey, if you didn't want to be in here, I know you got the feeling the way you move over there. All right, family, we back in. We back in. And excuse if you hear some noise in the background, because it's very hot in the studio. We don't. We got the fans going and you may hear some of that air and then we got the windows wide open. So please bear with us, and we're not going to stay long up here today because we're going to try this, this. The weather's changing and it's getting hot and and, uh, I don't, I don't want to be up in here for like an hour and change because, uh, it's, it's a bit much so, but we're gonna, we're gonna come up here every week and do what we do, and and, uh, that's what it's going to be. Hold on, let me get back to the boards.
Speaker 2:Okay, yeah, so, but when I left you last, there was a couple of things that was on the plate and we didn't get to get to it, and we're going to touch on some of those things, but what I want to do, what I want to do real quick, is is recap my experience at the Juneteenth celebration here in Brooklyn. Oh man, it was, it was, it was. I couldn't believe it. I've never went to a Juneteenth celebration or or an exurbance, as I think the proper way to put it to you know, you know it was. It was a celebration, of course, but to me it's more of it would be more of of observing the and reflecting on on on that pivotal point in history, on that pivotal point in history, right, so? But I went to this thing, right, I was told about it cause I didn't know about it. I was told by a good friend of mine and my man, you know, salute to my man, mike, mike McCray. He said, yeah, man, you know they're going to have this thing up there Highland park. So you know thing up there Highland Park, so you know you want to go. I was like, hey, you know. So I said, okay, fine, we went, and I procrastinated most of the day because I really didn't want to go, so we got there. We got there must have been around four o'clock, something like that 3, 34 o'clock. You, I wish we went earlier, man, when I tell you we got out there, the Freedmen, fba was out there, family, they was out there and I wasn't man and salute to the Freedmen, salute to the Freedmen. And they was out there thinking in peanut butter, thinking in that government-issued peanut butter, thinking in that government issued peanut butter. It was beautiful. All those beautiful sisters and children and brothers is out there and it was hardly no parking. People was double and triple park on the street and then the parking lot for the place you could. There was no parking. There was a traffic jam in the parking lot and they had tents out there, they had music, they had food. It was just. It was a beautiful thing.
Speaker 2:And I'm going next year and and I'm gonna, I'm gonna do a media tent out there. I'm gonna do that. I'm, we're gonna, we're gonna be rocking next year. We're gonna rock and we're gonna to be rocking next year. We're going to rock and we're going to promote that thing. I'm going to find out who are the sponsors and the people that the organizers of it, and I'm going to put a. I'm going to ask them. You know, can I put a media tent out there? And I'm going to be, you know, promoting it on my platforms. I'm going to be promoting it and we're going to try to get more people.
Speaker 2:There were so many people out there and you didn't see no Caribbean flags, you didn't see no red, black and green colors and all it was straight up foundational freedmen out there. Now, we left there for a second and we went on the other side of town because there was a thing going on that this young lady invited me to, and we got over there. It wasn't really hitting on nothing and we came back to the park. But this is the thing, the sky opened up and it rained. It really rained, but it didn't matter because those people, the tents was out there and those people stayed out there. When I tell you, the rain came down, it was came. It came down both times that we went up to the park both times, but nonetheless, people were still out there and it was a beautiful thing. It was beautiful and I'm going to really promote that for next year and try to get more people out there.
Speaker 2:And, like I said, I want to. I want to talk to the organizers to see if I can get a media tent out there and we just do a live. We just do a big old live out there and talk to the people. Just have the people come up and talk and just, you know, have a good time out there. Yeah, that's what it was about. And also I wanted to.
Speaker 2:Now you got people, of course. You got some black folks that, oh, they don't like Juneteenth and shouldn't be celebrating Juneteenth because that's not patriotic. And these are black people. You know, I don't want to say no names. Yeah, well, I'm going to say the tight suit wearing dude, the Vince Ellison guy, he made some comments about it and yeah, you know, you wait for somebody to give you your freedom and you know, just, it's always about punching down at black folks and I don't like that because I don't. I don't.
Speaker 2:Let me say this I don't care about the federal holiday, part of it I really don't. My thing is, is it could be now people celebrating Juneteenth in the state of Texas, down in Louisiana and places like that. They've been, they've been celebrating Juneteenth for decades, decades. It's nothing new to me because I recently, in the last 10 years, found out about Juneteenth in the last about 10 years or so, because I didn't know nothing about it and I never went to a celebration, but I did go. Just the first time I went and I enjoyed it.
Speaker 2:Now I don't care about. It's a federal holiday and people got the day. I don't care about that. And I want us to Friedman, I want us to get in the habit of even though it's too late now. It's a federal holiday and it's an observance on the federal level, but we don't care about that. We care about what. If we want to make up a day to celebrate, say, somebody like a Malcolm X, that's what we decide to do. We don't wait for you to dictate to us, for nobody to dictate to us what we celebrate, who, when and where.
Speaker 2:And I got to tell you. I got to tell you that I respect the Irish community because St Paddy's Day is not a federal recognized holiday. It's not. But let me tell you this they have that big parade in Manhattan and most of the time it falls on a weekday, right, they have that big parade going up Fifth Avenue, from Central Park all the way up to, I think, 86th Street. I think 86th Street, and people be all over the city Manhattan, even in the outer boroughs, brooklyn. They be celebrating in those little pubs out in Greenpoint, brooklyn, because you got some Irish folks over there, and they all over Manhattan. They just be all over Midtown Manhattan, upper West Side, east Side, midtown, downtown, chelsea, all those bars and stuff packed with people, irish people and them. People are getting drunk and partying and doing what they do, and it's not even a federal holiday. They not thinking about, oh, I got to go to work the next day, or it's a work day, federal holiday. They're not thinking about, oh, I got to go to work the next day, or it's a work day, I can't take off. They're not thinking that's powerful, right there? Same thing with the Jewish community, right, same thing with the Jewish community. They have their different observances Yom Kippur, even though Yom Kippur, even though Yom Kippur, I think Yom Kippur is a federal holiday, but the other holidays.
Speaker 2:Now, the reason why I'm bringing this up? Because I heard Jason Blank talking about it and it struck me right Because, as content creators, or I don't consider myself that those guys are content creators, or or I don't consider myself that those guys are content creators. I'm just a, a, um, what they call us a commentator, a react reactor, re-reaction commentator. If you want to call me a content creator, fine, fine, I just try to bring. When I get information or get things, I try to come up here and bring it to you but the equipment that we use. There's a place that I frequent in Manhattan, b&h, and they're good with audio video equipment and cameras and different things like that, and I do a lot of business with them. You know those planes are going by, so I apologize for that. Like I said, we got the windows open but yeah, so, but that's, that is a.
Speaker 2:Those people are Orthodox Jews that that run that place, that they're the owners and they run that place. That run that place, that they're the owners and they run that place. Now, when their holidays come up, when you go on their website, they'll put the banners up there and they will tell you it may be a week ahead of time, or two weeks ahead of time, or a month or sometime. They'll put the banners and tell you the store will be closed on such and such date. From this date to two, know two, three days or whatever, however long the observance of their holiday may be, that's how long the store will be closed.
Speaker 2:Not only that, not only that, though, you can't even go on the website and order nothing, because the website is shut down. Is that, see what I'm trying to say? Family, that's power right there, and a lot of those holidays and I think yom kippur is is uh like a federal thing, I think yom kippur, but the rest of those observances and they, they have. They have those things pretty often a few times a year. They shut it all down. They don't wait. You can't even go on the website, right. You can't go on the website and order nothing, because the web not not just the store itself, the physical store the website where you can go online and order things and pre-order stuff you can't even do that. They shut the website down, right. That's power, right there.
Speaker 2:And this is this is where we got to be at same thing with the uh, um, well, I wouldn't say the asians, but the asians, you know they do their thing too. But really we could take a note. I would like us to start taking notes from the Jewish community and understanding that that's power right there. That is. That is a sure sign of power. You don't have to wait for nobody to give you a day off work in order for you to observe and celebrate the things that mean something to our community.
Speaker 2:Now, we can't get crazy with it now, and every other week we're taking off from work and stuff like that to have these celebrations, but for the very iconic historic things that were very pivotal to our history here in America. I think we should observe those things. I think we should. Juneteenth shouldn't be the only thing we should have. You know well, dr King is a federally recognized holiday, but we should have one or two more where we just shut everything down and we pay homage to that. We get into that for that day.
Speaker 2:Now, now, now it's even better when these things fall, these observances fall when the children are out of school and maybe it's the weekend and people, a lot of people, got time off from their places of work or their places of business or whatever the case might be. But what I'm saying is that's power right there, when you're able to do that and not worrying about oh, I got to go to work. You know how some of us are man, I can't take yo, I got to pay this bill. I can't take no days off this bill. Um, I can't take no days off. I gotta go to work. Man, I mean, good grief, man, go to work a half a day and go home sick or something, who knows, ain't nobody. The guts of what I'm saying is until you serious about yourself. Other people ain't gonna take you serious and they know that we waiting for a holiday for them to. I don't need recognition from the dominant society or the clears to tell me what's important to me. I wouldn't care if Juneteenth fell on a Monday. I'm going to the observance, I don't care about the day off, and that's where we got to get and I think we're getting there Now.
Speaker 2:On the flip side of that coin, I was looking at the other day, I was looking at some other day, I was looking at some of the um other places here in brooklyn that had the observance of juneteenth and it broke my heart because the weeksville heritage center you know that's the place and I did it. I did a a little story on them. You know I filmed, I went up there and filmed and everything like that, and I did a little little short story on them that I'm gonna premiere it on YouTube at some point, but that's another story. But anyway, I went they they had something on it on online where they had the observance over there. But when I looked at it, man, they had uh, tents out there, people selling food and stuff like that. There's some music out there, but I've seen about four or five tents with jamaican, this, jamaican, that jamaican, this, uh, the island, this, this is like and this was the talk, uh, since last week ago that people were complaining about that.
Speaker 2:You know, know, they come in with these red, black and green colors for Juneteenth. Juneteenth the official flag for Juneteenth is is red, white, blue and With the star, the star in the middle and the fists right. That's Juneteenth. Yeah, that's Juneteenth. So we don't care about all that. You know you got people from other countries and cultures. They got the yellow, green, black and a flag on it, the Jamaican flag, and all this stuff. We don't bother people with their cultural events.
Speaker 2:I don't go to the Caribbean Day Parade anymore. It's just too many people for me. I used to go many years ago. I used to go and you know you go out there and women walking around and they with no clothes on and just basically twerking, and you go out there to look at that, get you a piece of jerk chicken or something and dance. You know, get your little drink on or your smoke on, whatever you do, and that's that's what we used to do, because you know you got there's so many women would be out there. But you don't go out there trying to crowbar your way into their culture. That's their thing. So what we're saying is that's our thing. Juneteenth is not about you, it's about us. Why do you have to hijack it? Now you're out there. I guess it was people selling their food and stuff, like I just didn't like that.
Speaker 2:And that's the weakfield weeksville heritage center. That's that. That was uh, one of the first uh, freedman black town villages here in new york city, in the boroughs here. And then that that was weeksville. They had a the torchlight paper and all of that. And that was Wheatville. They had the torchlight paper and all of that and that was a freedman's society there and that was about our heritage and it had nothing to do with no Caribbeanist.
Speaker 2:And you know people will take what I'm saying right now oh he hating on the Caribbean. No, it's not that. We don't bother your stuff, leave our stuff alone, stop trying to crowbar your way into our thing, and that's all I'm saying. There's no hate, I love, we got love for our Caribbean family. Those are our cousins, those are our distant cousins. Like it or not, they're our distant cousins and we got love for them. Whether it's reciprocal or not, we got genuine love for them. We really do. But what else we got? What else we got here family, what else we got here? Yeah, so next year, highland Park family for all of you listening here in New York City. Next year, highland Park family For all of you listening here in New York City. Next year, highland Park for Juneteenth.
Speaker 2:That's where it's going down at and you know we right now we may be faced with some real serious stuff here going on across waters. The US has now gotten involved in it and that is the conflict with Israel and Iran. As you heard unless you've been in a cave somewhere hiding under some rocks US on June 22nd, the US sent airstrikes over there to their nuclear supposedly their nuclear facilities. From what I'm understanding, they didn't really get anything. Hold on, let me see. Let me see if I can get a little bit of that. Can I get a little bit of that? Hold on, yeah, hold on, let me see. Can I pull that up in here? Okay, yeah, hold on, let me see, can I pull that up in here. Okay, yeah, that was on June 22nd. That was June 22nd when that happened. And yeah, let's get the report. Let's see Can we get a little bit of the report in here. Give me a second.
Speaker 5:Let's now switch to Israel. Go to our chief foreign correspondent, trey Yanksy. He's live in Tel Aviv with the latest, not only from Israel, but what do you make of the fact that this appeared to be a pretty limited response, trey? Yeah, john, good afternoon. We're getting more information from regional sources right now on this Iranian attack targeting the Al-Alyudh air base just outside of Doha, qatar. The latest information that we have, according to the Qatari foreign ministry, they say these missiles were intercepted over the Qatari capital of Doha. They say there are no injuries on the ground and the Qataris are condemning this attack launched by Iran. This is significant but not unexpected. The distance between Qatar and Iran is just over 100 nautical miles and this is a large base, the largest American base in the region, and it had largely been evacuated. According to one source that we spoke with before this attack took place, the Americans understood that Qatar, kuwait and Bahrain could be on the top target list for the Iranians in any sort of response. Ukraine could be on the top target list for the Iranians in any sort of response following those strikes that were ordered by President Trump to go after Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend. We're working to get some confirmation about reports that American bases in Iraq may have been targeted, but again, the information that we have about the Gulf is significant. There are air defense systems in Qatar, both the THAAD missile defense system and the Patriot system, and according to some initial video that we reviewed from sources in Doha, it looks like, if not all, but the majority of these incoming missiles were shot down overhead. In terms of what led up to this, we know.
Speaker 5:Earlier today the US embassy in Doha sent out an alert to American citizens in Qatar to shelter in place. Shortly after that, the airspace over this country was closed. You could see on flight radar maps a number of flights diverting to other regional airports and again that condemnation coming in from the Qataris. We're also monitoring Iranian state media at this hour, who says that they launched this attack, calling it the annunciation of victory. Iranian state media also saying their military says this was a devastating and powerful attack. This is not unexpected propaganda to receive from the regime in Tehran, but again an indication that the Iranians are looking to save face following this US strike that went after their nuclear facilities over the weekend.
Speaker 5:Other regional countries, including Kuwait, bahrain and the UAE, do remain on high alert at this hour over concern that there could be further attacks on US interests in the region. Of course, the Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. There are also thousands of American forces in Kuwait, and then the possibility that Iraq could be targeted as well. I can take you back to 2020, when the Americans ordered that drone strike against Qasem Soleimani outside of Baghdad's international airport. The Iranians responded then with 13 ballistic missiles against the Ain al-Assad airbase in western Iraq, and so, of course, missile defense systems across the region remain on high alert. Again, the Americans knew this was a possibility and largely evacuated much of their personnel from these areas. John Sandra.
Speaker 3:All right, Just going through the Qatar response here. Qatar is saying it reserves the right to respond after this Iranian attack, as John just reported. Qatar is saying no casualties from that attack at the US military base, Thank goodness. And the top security body there, Iran's top security body there, is saying armed forces used the same number of bombs that the US had used in attacking Iran's nuclear facilities. That is per the latest statement that we've been digesting. Trey, Please do weigh in on that, as John and I were just discussing is what we're seeing? Is this evidence of diminished capabilities on the part of Iran?
Speaker 5:Look, the types of missiles that the Iranians are likely using against American interests in Qatar, as Jennifer noted, are some from their shorter range arsenal cruise missiles or possibly medium range ballistic missiles, but not the same missiles that they were using over the past 11 days to target major Israeli population centers. A Qatari source just sending me another statement that I do want to just read here live from a spokesman for Qatar's foreign minister saying we reaffirm that dialogue is the only way to overcome the current crisis and ensure the security in the region and the peace of its people remains. And so the Qataris still amid all of this encouraging diplomacy and dialogue in the region. They have been one of the leaders in the Middle East over the past more than 600 days trying to de-escalate regional tension, bring all parties to the table and ultimately find some sort of off-ramp, a ceasefire agreement or at least temporary understandings. But as this war develops between Israel and Iran, there is concern. That sort of off-ramp, a ceasefire agreement or at least a temporary understanding. But as this war develops between Israel and Iran, there is concern that this could spiral and continue, because we heard from President Trump directly. We heard from the Secretary of Defense, pete Hegseth, that any attack on American interests in the region would be met with a response. Everyone, from American officials to current and former Israeli officials, warned Iran against such an attack taking place Now. While this is limited in nature, it certainly does bring this entire conflict into a new chapter and raises questions about how the Americans might respond to this direct attack on their largest military base in the Middle East.
Speaker 5:This is a base that normally houses around 10,000 US personnel. We have reported from the Al-Aldaid base just outside of Doha. It's about a 30-minute drive from the US embassy in the Qatari capital, and it's a place where there is a lot of coordination for US Central Command. You might remember back in 2021, when those evacuation flights were taking place, many of them were landing from Kabul, afghanistan, to Doha, qatar, at this air base, and so it's a base that was built in the late 90s. It cost around a billion dollars to build and it is still owned by the Qataris, but it is again the largest American base in the region and there is close coordination for US Central Command done out of this base. It was largely evacuated before this took place and, again, according to a spokesman for Qatar's foreign ministry, no one was injured in this missile strike launched by Iran. But again this shows that the Iranians are willing to respond directly to American interests.
Speaker 2:Let me. Let me pause it right there, because what it seems to me at the moment that there's a lot of a lot of gesturing, a lot of posturing going on. Now what I will say is this I hope this thing doesn't escalate any further now, as this, this report was yesterday, yesterday, late yesterday evening or yesterday afternoon when this report came out, that they, um, you know, with these airstrikes at these, these, um, american, uh military bases out there right now, you heard what the reporter said, that that trump will be said, that they, that any attack on american interests will be met with aggression. Now you sent an airstrike over there. You didn't get the nuclear strongholds that you are pumping your chest about. And I had a conversation. You know.
Speaker 2:Salute to my man Wines from the ARP, the Righteous Perspective, good brother there. Y'all go check him out on YouTube. He comes on every morning about 930 Eastern Time. Good brother man. Good, I like his stuff. But me and him had a long conversation. We're on opposing sides as far as world views and the way we see things and beliefs and stuff like that, but a very good brother man, always have very meaningful dialogue with him. Y'all go check him out over there. I've been on his show a couple times as a as a guest panelist. Um, y'all can check some of those shows, some of those uh episodes out and uh, we had a long conversation about this and I I'm telling him that that I don't. This is not like Iraq or Afghanistan. This is something, something different. Now, you know people, you have very arrogant people talking about you know we'll just blow them out the water and destroy them. No, no.
Speaker 2:Those people there's 98 million people in that country, in Iraq. You can't, you're not going to just destroy them like that. This is not what a lot of people thinking. This is that this is some day some push over people, push over punks. It's not like that. Not saying that that America has the capability to to squash them in the grand scheme of things, but what? At what cost? Let me share something. Hold on just a second. Let me bring this in here. Hold on, Give me one second. I want you to hear something.
Speaker 6:It's going to happen here on US soil the potential threat of Iranian sleeper cells. We've talked about the open border. The last four years Take a look at this data CBP sources telling Fox News from 2021 to 2024, under the Biden administration, just over 1,500 Iranians were caught by Border Patrol crossing the southern border illegally. Of that, almost half of them 729, were released into the US. That is 48 percent. That also does not account for the more than two million known gotaways who slipped across the southern border during that time.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah. So you see, it's not, it's not going to be a cake walk in the park. You ain't gonna just be whistling and walking through the park with this. So now they, as of yes, yesterday they trump was uh saying that there's a ceasefire between israel and iran, and then some people in the in the iranian parliament were saying they don't know nothing about it, about no ceasefire. But so you know, the world is on edge with this thing because if it goes down, if it goes down, it's going to be hell to pay for this on all sides. It ain't going to be no America just going to press a button and wipe iran off the map and they go family. I'm telling y'all this is a very capable military. United states is very capable. I'm not sitting up here capping and putting the cape on for, for iran or none of that stuff like that, but what I'm telling you is this is not iraq or afghan. This is something totally different.
Speaker 2:That said, we're going to get ready to get out of here, but before we do that, we're going to got to talk about old fat Joe Zimpik. Old fat Joe Zimpik has gotten himself in some more, some more a wee bit of trouble there with some sexual allegations and from what I'm all reports what I'm getting, it's very serious. One of his hype men, ta, the legend TA, has hit him with some kind of $20 million suit indicating some sexual he done some sexual assaults or some underage girls or what. What have you see?
