In today’s episode of Simplifying Life Through Technology, we catch up with “Shady” Frederick Laderer, SoundVision’s window treatment expert.

We will talk all things shades today.  Listen for the various benefits shades have over and above just blocking or filtering light.

We will discuss our various offerings from both Lutron and Hunter Douglas.

Frederick discusses his educational life and work life.  He has some CRAZY INTERESTING experiences including graduating from Ringling (yes, as in the Ringling Brothers) College of Art and Design, being the director of photography for Lowe’s corporation AND, check out his personal touch to the Welcome to Myrtle Beach, SC and Blowing Rock signs!

As always, we have fun too, including the outtakes left in the intro.  Oh, Michelle even drops an expletive.

We will talk about types of window treatments and how the different fabrics affect lighting control by themselves.  We will also discuss the options for both bottom up and top-down versions of shading.  We even go over various terms to make the selection of shades and what you need to think about simpler.  For example, we define the difference between room darkening and blackout.

SoundVision, and now ShadeVision, has and entire room of various styles and types of window treatments, including motorized drapery rods in our Experience Center in Mooresville.

What about the ability to filter light from one window, or a bank of windows, based on various inputs, like arming or disarming your security system, time of day, weather conditions, and almost anything else you can think about.

We LOVE working with designers on window treatment projects.  Frederick discusses one project we just completed with Starr Miller and her team.  We are different designers.  We want to compliment and work with you on your designs!  You lead us!  {Michelle, add photos of this project here}

Frederick also recently got back from advanced lighting design training in Dallas.  He goes through some of the newest ideas in the world of lighting design and how we are involved in that as well.   We go over the three variables with lighting and how we can control all of it.

We use some incredible brands like DMF, WAC, American Lighting and Coastal Source, all of which are on display in our Experience Center.

Finally, Frederick discusses a recent home theater design project, which includes lighting and motorized drapes and the cool aspects we used in it.
