Layers Breeding Lawyers is an essay about why evidence so often fails to change anything. Why people defend positions that are demonstrably wrong. Why institutions resist correction even when the cost of not correcting is enormous. The examples range from the mundane to the historical to the genuinely difficult to believe — and the mechanism turns out to be the same at every scale.
